How did Britney Ward go from 100th to 10th in one week? Does that have to do with the RQS or did she just have an amazing week? Thanks!

It’s all about RQS…I didn’t check out her results, but I did look at Paige Zaziski’s and I’d guess Ward’s jump is similar. Paige has competed bars in seven meets, but fell in her first competition, which took her average way down and put her in 99th on the event. The RQS takes the top six scores into account (dropping the highest and averaging the remaining five) so her one fall gets dropped, and without that fall, the rest of her scores were high enough to give her a solid average.
Looking at Ward on beam, it seems her story is similar. She has competed eight times this season, getting a 9.25 in week 1 and a 9.7 in week 2, and then after that all of her scores were 9.85 or higher. So she gets to drop those two early scores, and then her high of 9.925 also gets dropped, meaning her only scores to average are 9.85, 9.875, 9.875, 9.9, and 9.9, which brings her to a 9.88 RQS, which puts her in the top 10. If you were to average all eight of her scores, she’s at only 9.783, which puts her around 100th.

Makes sense. Thank you for your reply!

No problem! I was surprised at first too but then realized there were lots of big jumps like that for exactly that reason.
