  1. Do you think Seda will get good assignments this quad? I like her, but she never seems to do well under pressure which makes me sad.

  2. Ugh Russia. Eremina is the only redeeming facet of this meet. Oh well it’s only qualifying. Hopefully things will get better as the meet goes on. I just hope that these two years they learn how to not fall apart without Mustafina.

  3. I’m watching the livestream of the AA finals and yikes- a lot of these girls seem to have a pretty low fitness level. They all seem exhausted by the end of the routines. Early season stuff?

    • Yeah, most likely. I’m watching as well…it looks like they’re just like, giving up too easily? Like “I’m probably gonna fall on this so whatever.” They come in defeated and that’s how they end up. A shame, Melnikova’s bars looked great up until her Jaeger!

      • I noticed that as well, and just a lot of…floppiness? On bars in particular it seemed. And Seda on beam- woof. Poor thing. I did like Ksenia Kim’s floor, but I’m a sucker for well choreographed swing music.

      • If they perform like this in international competition like Euros, they will barely get a medal (GB, Italy, France, Germany all have good and coming talent now that will be likely to beat them even out for medal contention)
If they perform like this at Worlds, I actually doubt them reaching the finals.. Wow I mean Mustafina carried the team for years now covering up their issues lots but I didn’t expect it to be that bad.. I was shocked not only D-score-wise but the execution is not good at all..

  4. If it was for a couple year’s ago’s team, Seda would be out already. I love this girl, I believe she has more potential than even Melnikova but her issues with not hitting under pressure are going on for years now. And I actually am under the impression it’s only getting worse. I wonder, why are they not getting her to a sports psychologist or mental trainer that helps her? It’s such a waste of talent to see her struggle.. Like she just got 11 something on beam.. 😦

  5. NO NO NO Russia!! Wtf?! Even Eremina seems to have fallen apart during the AA final… oh well, we still have event finals left.
My team for euros would be Eremina, Iliankova (hopefully competing all events), Kapitonova and Melnikova (though she seems to have SERIOUS problems with competing right now?¿). Give up on Seda, Shelgunova and Spiri already. Literally… i WANT Seda and Shelgunova to retire/ take a break lol am I horrible

    • I would love to not have Melnikova on the Euro team.. I like her but maybe her problems competing are kinda motivational? She knows she can fall as many times and still make the team, whereas others have to prove themselves.. Maybe not being selected would make her mental game stronger/ work harder.. just a guess 🙂 Love seeing Kapitonova up there tho, even tho the scores would not be competitive internationally really.

      • I’m just sure they had a very bad day at the office ,it happens now and then .However Russia must pull their socks up to be successful this quad.i really though elena eremina was going to be the new kid on the block.,i also agree with most comments about seda ,she has had so many chances and now must go .

        • Oh no Russia 😥 I need Tutkhalyan, Spiridonova, Melnikova to take a break asap! Seriously.. Oh well, i’ll just wait another year or two for Simakova and Klimenko to join up with Iliankova and Eremia.

  7. Minor mystery solved: Eleonora Afanasyeva is Eleonora Goryunova. I thought it was too big a coincidence to have an Eleonora representing Novgorod. Turns out she got married while we weren’t paying attention.

  8. FX outscored UB by 20+pts? Only four 14+ bars scores on their pet event in their home country? I wonder how much of this is just adjusting to the new CoP? Not just for the athletes but for the judges too. And with Grandi gone and a new directive. We should be patient and compare these scores with other nations at their own big meets before we get too critical. We all need time to settle into the new gymnastics world

We should also remember that this is a very young field competing in the winter, never an easy thing to do. And there were also several coaching changes made after Rio. Give them time; I think Russia will surprise a lot of people this year.

So happy to see Alla back! Missing Katya Sokova though,
