  1. I really want Canadas worlds team to be Rose, Ellie, Shallon and Brooklyn, but I have a feeling Onyshko will probably be on the team over Rose, Shallon and Brooklyn. I want Shallon to make the vault podium and Ellie to make the all-around podium badly.

      • I’m actually kind of surprised that they’re picking Brittany, I don’t feel that she’s been performing as well as Rose or Brooklyn, and I don’t think she’s going to contend for any finals, regardless the podium. Ellie can medal in the all around and Beam, Shallon has a lot of potential to medal on vault, and Brooklyn can at least make finals on floor. I feel like Rose can do really well in the all around final, and there’s a little bias in the fact that Rose lives in Montreal, so she would literally be the hometown girl. Onyshko could medal on Beam if she upgrades. So given five gymnasts that can all at the very least make a final, I don’t really get why they would take Brittany who hasn’t shown the ability to do so this season.

        • They’re probably expecting Brittany (and Isabela) will be more up to standard at the selection camp in July. Brittany can easily make the vault final, and with a cleaned up and hit UB set, could be a potential for that final as well. Rose could make AA, but no events, and Brooklyn could make floor if she hit, but so far this season she’s only had one fully hit routine and tends to let nerves get the best of her in finals which is too bad. I’d love Brooklyn on the team…but this is her first year as a senior AND her first year to reach the top of the national level, so she definitely lacks the experience at the moment, though I have a good feeling about her based on her progress over the past year, and I think she’ll definitely be one to watch throughout the rest of the quad even if she likely won’t make it this year.

    • We had photos of Elizabeth from qualifications, posted in a separate gallery. Unfortunately we have only one photographer on the floor with four events going on at a time, so while we try to get everyone, sometimes it’s not possible to get every single gymnast on every single night of competition. We are a private website with no ties to any gymnast or club, producing photos and coverage for free public consumption. We do our best in a very hectic competition setting, but again, there’s no way we’re going to get everyone. We also missed Shallon Olsen on this night, and she’s an Olympian and the meet’s senior vault champion. And we missed a number of other gymnasts in addition to Shallon and Elizabeth. We’re not going to be able to catch every gymnast at every meet when there are 32+ competing at the same time with four events going on at once and only one human person there to capture all of it. Literally THE most obnoxious thing on earth is people whining about FREE COVERAGE.

  2. Call it obnoxious all you like Lauren, but when there are more than half a dozen photos of the Olympians Black, Woo, Onyshko and Rogers, everyone except Shallon who by the way also competed at the Olympics; you should take the criticism instead of slamming the people who voice their disapproval of your omission. We care not about the fact that your photos are free, that’s not the point. The point is it’s as if Shallon wasn’t at the competition at all, when we know she was. It isn’t nice being invisible at the hands of a photographer who can’t even take one photo of Olsen, really?

    • We actually have tons of pictures of Shallon from every other competition we’ve photographed. And we actually did have a considerable amount of Shallon from all-around finals, but none that came out nicely enough to put on the website (we choose about 100 of every 1000 photos we take at each competition). We would rather not feature an athlete’s photo if it’s not a good photo than feature it just for the sake of featuring it. So yes, our photographer DOES have photos of Shallon, but none that worked out to be strong visual representations either of Shallon’s gymnastics or of her reputation as a good gymnastics photographer. It’s incredibly difficult to photograph this sport, which is why about 10% of the photos end up being hits and the other 90% are misses. This is true of anyone who photographs this sport, and when we only have one photographer on the floor while four events are going on, someone’s going to draw the short straw and not make it in. Our goal is to represent every gymnast competing, with usually a greater attention on the bigger names (including Shallon), but sometimes it happens that one or two gymnasts will end up with no usable photos. It’s quite obviously not a malicious intent on our part, CLEARLY not something we do on purpose, and it’s incredibly rude on your part to make demands such as these when you are not hiring us for a service. We have featured Shallon plenty of times in photographs, video interviews, and articles, all for free, and this is the first time we’ve not gotten a photo of her while photographing a competition. Instead of thanking us for all of the times we HAVE featured her, you are criticizing us for the one time she is NOT. If you don’t see how ridiculous you’re being, especially in making these DEMANDS of us when you do not hire us for our services, then I don’t know what to tell you. We’ll continue to do our best to feature everyone, but with limited resources, it’s not always going to work out.

And PS- this website isn’t a full-time job for anyone. I do it all in my spare time for free, as does everyone who works on it – including our photographer – because we love to do it. So it’s never going to be perfect because we have no compensation, no budget, and no resources. Seriously, nothing, except the passion for what we do. Of course we’re disappointed to not capture everything. But there’s very little we can do about it given our limitations. And even though it’s not perfect, we all work VERY hard with what we have. So on top of all that, we now have to come to the site and read complaints and demands from people who feel entitled to something? It’s INCREDIBLY rude and obnoxious. To put it into perspective, knowing how hard Shallon works and trains in her sport, how would you feel if when she fell on an event, she got attacked by everyone who expected her to hit it out of the park? We all do our best, and sometimes it’s not going to be 100%. There’s nothing we can do about it except say “sorry, better luck next time!” and move on.
