Huh? I thought Ponor retired?

She did…she’s fulfilling a few contract obligations doing lower difficulty than usual (these post-worlds meets often pay a good amount of money) and when they’re over, she’s done.

Until the next time the Romanian team decide their gymnasts aren’t up to scratch and wheel her out again.

She’ll come out of retirement again in 2019 when the Romanian federation finds out that they have only Larisa to send to Tokyo (if she’s not injured). She will retire in 2021 and come back in 2023 for Paris 2024. And will win the gold medal on B.B. and FX at age 37 😀

I assume it’s because Hitomi had a ‘gold’ and two ‘silvers’ while Marine had a ‘gold’ and a ‘bronze’. That’s all I can think of.

According to Intlgymnast, higher E score was the tiebreaker, apparently, which gave the win to Hitomi.

Hmm, that makes sense I guess! Weird, they should’ve allowed the tie.

Any news on why Spiri choose to compete only on two events?

I’m wondering too. Even the normal tie situation doesn’t work because then Marine would have won too. Maybe they take the last score to decide

OMG Please retire already Ponor we are tired of watching ugly Romanian gymnastics

That’s the point of this competition! Haha

Err – that is the point of this event – it’s not a traditional AA – WAG gymnasts choose 3 and MAG choose 4

Wow, Spiridonova has reached the bottom of her career, just when we thought she couldn’t get lower. Please retire.

Dasha as good as retired after Glasgow when Seda and Melka joined the A-Team. She’s just a B-Team member now. And now with Elena, Aliya and Vika around as well…
