In about two months, a new crop of international elites – including dozens and dozens of our favorites – are going to graduate from the junior to senior ranks. I’m sure we can all recall the debuts of some of these kids, especially those who burst onto the scene with insane talent and potential, and now here they are, all grown up and age-eligible for senior international competition?!

I’d be very interested in that, too. She hasn’t been competing since Massillia 2016 because of injury. She still seems to be in citizenship-limbo. I’d not be surprised if she dropped down to L10 until she goes off to Stanford.

She’s still in limbo basically…though closer to the U.S. than Russia, so she goes on the U.S. side of things!

What’s the story with Chiara Bunce and Slovakia? Does she have Slovakian ancestry or did she get the nationality just to compete for them? Is she still training in the UK?

She competed for a club at the British Teams Competition in September, so I assume she still trains there.

Her mother is Slovakian and she has dual nationality. Her dad is British and she trains at Heathrow.

Yes, she has Slovakian ancestry and she is still living and training in the UK (at Heathrow), though she competes a good deal for Slovakia at most of their domestic meets so she definitely is serious about representing them in general, not just to maybe get an Olympic spot someday.

I think I just happen to (weirdly) know more DOBs for Finland than for other smaller programs! Many of these won’t really be on the international scene, but in general it is still a really strong new senior year for them next year with Iida-Maria Vänni, Sani Mäkelä, Enni Kettunen, Lilian Langenskiöld, and Emilia Kemppi probably most notably climbing up the ranks. Actually, I think the only top junior who isn’t moving up right now is 2003-born Ada Hautala, so literally every other strong junior will enter the senior pool next year which is kind of awesome for their depth.

I make Ailbhe Ni Dhuibhghiolla Anglicize to Ayla Nee Diffily (or perhaps Duffy). Not sure if that’s correct (names can be pronounced any way a person likes). Any Irish out there who can correct that?
Expect big improvements in Hungary, Czech Rep., and Holland. Super worried about China’s AA ability though

Thanks, I generally don’t anglicize unless they officially use the anglicized name within their federation! That’s the name she uses right now for competition so until she/the federation anglicizes it, that’s what I use just to keep things consistent!

Also, you can’t just change a persons name to make it easier for the rest of the world. That’s the name she was given at birth. Many Irish people have Irish names.

I had them on my initial list but people wrote in and said those gymnasts have actually retired so I just did that as a note to myself without actually deleting them just in case they haven’t actually retired. I just want official confirmation first.

Oh god. I can’t believe we thought it was bad in 2014 for Romania… at least then they had healthy Iordache, 2nd year seniors Stanila and Ocolisan then a nice bunch of girls with huge promise like Munteanu, Tudorache, and even Zarzu (tysm Ponor luv ya gurl hope you think that your Olympic 7th on beam was a worthy trade off for all these girls😒) then 2 very nice juniors on bars (Iridon, Emanuela) and Jurca. Now they literally only have Denisa Golgota, Iordache and Crisan, luckily if they just fielded this team they could probably place 11th or so next year thanks to Golgotas bars holding them back. I’ll miss u Romania

Laura Jacob won the AA at the Comaneci Intl., in Oklahoma earlier this year and Ioana Stanciulescu who came second is one of a group of very promising 2004 babies including Silvia Sfiringu, Lisa Marchidanu, Daniela Trică, Emilia Munteanu and Irina Duță. From 2003, Iulia Berar, Coleen Tataru, Ana Maria Puiu, Diana Mandrea and Maria Pana also show promise
They may have a lean year or two but they’ll be back. As for Ponor, she doesn’t do bars, isn’t soaking up their coaching staff and isn’t responsible for the mess they’re in. They were going broke, that’s all. They couldn’t afford coaches etc. That’s why Bellu and Bitang came back as volunteers. Now the program has had an injection of funds from the EU and they have a major sponsor in Petrom, and also a new President, maybe that will change. I think Raducan and Sofronie will make a huge impact in Bucarest

Am I the only one who’s favorite of this enormous (thanks Lauren) list is Olivia Dunne? Her lines are just so pretty and I love her big combinations on Bars and beam along with a decently, even if not absolutely amazingly choreographed floor with great tumbling.

I love her too. But it seems lines don’t count anymore. Unfortunately. Many girls with duch feet, bend legs, crossed legs, robot piruettes. They managed to robotize even ballet skills and this when don’t punish our view with bouncing buddies and do on.
