  1. Thanks for posting the result…. US team looks good…. guess they could’ve fall a bunch of times and still win….. but I am guess they won’t…

you think carey is saving her amanar for worlds? I guess she’s like meh, I don’t even need an amanar to win pan am so I won’t do it? unless Andrade decides to do one? lol..

grace mccallum is doing well… I think she will at least get the alternate spot if not the 5th spot. the problem with her is obviously no top three event for the US team. I do feel like she has more value all together than eaker… obviously if eaker can somehow transform herself into a better bars worker then she would be a perfect complement to carey….

  2. All five US girls were great today. So, SO proud of these athletes, who continue to perform outstanding gymnastics in spite of the roaring dumpster fire that is USAG. Kara’s floor and beam! Shilese’s vault! Trinity! But, of the five, I think Grace McCallum and Jade Carey made the strongest cases for spots on the Worlds team. Jade is worth taking for her FX alone, but she also got one of the biggest combined VT totals of 2018 today, suggesting that she would be competitive for a vault medal at Worlds even without upgrading. I think Jade is pretty much a lock.

As for that fifth spot, I mean, come on. Grace. Can we please talk about how amazing Grace is. But, she’s not a lock like Jade. Emma Malabuyo and Reagan Smith are still the dark horses for the Worlds team, along with maybe Kara Eaker, who would go as a beam specialist. But, Grace’s AA score today was better than anything Emma and Reagan have posted in 2018, so they will need to be in top form to edge her for the spot. If that winds up happening, then I think Grace is the alternate for sure.

I was also pumped to see Flavia Saraiva hit on FX and BB today. She seems so much more mature and confident than last year! A world-class gymnast. I would be so happy if she got a medal at Worlds.

    • I hope they don’t take Reagan. As much as I love her, she really needs to let that ankle heal. The poor girl seems really seriously injured at national. If she continue like this, she will burn out wayyy before tokyo…

  3. USA world’s team AA Simone, Hurd and Riley. Vault/Floor Jade Bars/beam Reagan and than Grace as alternative. That’s my prediction

  4. I think the scores were really inflated but I also think Grace’s case for making worlds is getting stronger and stronger. She performed well on bars and beam- the two places the US may need someone to compete (at least in qualification). And I think Jade is on the team too- just for her floor score and consistent vaulting.

    TF (TQ):

VT: Hurd, Carey, Biles (either McCallum or McCusker)
    UB: Hurd, McCusker, Biles (McCallum)
    BB: McCusker, Hurd, Biles (McCallum)
FX: Hurd, Carey, Biles (McCallum or McCusker)

    Alternate: Trinity Thomas

I’d put McCusker into TQ on VT and floor over McCallum so she can fight for the second AA spot even if she may score lower.

I just don’t see Reagan being healthy enough and she has been SO inconsistent on bars- a place where they need that 5th person. I want her to just rest and recover and not rush it. Same with Emma Malabuyo- so much talent, but take a page from Maile Okeefe and get healthy.

      • Laurie wasn’t expected to compete bars (Haley was supposed to compete) and she just kind of freaked out. Nothing major, just lots of rhythm breaks and she kept hopping off. Same thing happened to Sophie, who has high difficulty normally but can’t always compete it. Jade hit, Ana missed a release so her D went way down in addition to the fall.

  5. Based off of these results, I think the most sensical worlds team would be Simone Biles, Morgan Hurd, Riley McCusker, Jade Carey (unfortunately) and Grace McCallum. This team could have Biles, Hurd and McCusker do AA and Carey do VT/FX, with McCallum do UB/BB with solid backup on the leg events. The TQ/TF scenario would be something like this;
    VT (McCusker) Hurd, Carey, Biles
    UB (Biles) McCallum, Hurd, McCusker
    BB (McCallum) McCusker, Hurd, Biles
    FX (McCusker) Hurd, Carey, Biles
They could technically also flip McCallum and McCusker, but that wouldn’t make much sense since she wouldn’t be expected to take the leg events spot in the team or beat out Hurd for the AA. McCallum is perfect for a built in alternate position and could take over for anyone they would want to rest for the individual events. If Jade Carey doesn’t go to worlds because of Tom not knowing about 2020 qualification or even if she just wants to stay at OSU I could see them putting in Kara Eaker for floor and beam and then McCallum vault and bars. Thomas would be the best alternate in either scenario.

    • I think we need to write a petition to get carey to go to worlds…..lol… just to make sure tom knows the rules and carey really consider it’s for her own good….lol..

    • Agree. I don’t see how Ragan can show she is more ready than Grace. The only place she can score higher right now is beam and she wasn’t consistent there. Better to get healthy and let Grace shine.

    • Agreed. She is a competitor!! Perfect fifth member built in alternate that you can count on to hit any event. And I think it says something that she is raking in the international titles. As much as I want Eaker on the team, I feel McCullum has earned it.

  6. That’s fantastic grace got a 57 in an international comp! US def got the most number of gymnasts with at least 57….

Also great to see kara eaker beams getting consistent nice scoring internationally…. l am still a little nervous with that many combinations though…..

So hard to decide that 5th position…..

    • I think the team should be:
      1.) Simone
      2.) Morgan
      3.) Riley
      4.) Jade
      5.) Kara

I think this gives the US the most opportunity for medals individually. Here is what I imagine the lineup will be in quals, lowest scores in parentheses.

      Vault: (Riley), Morgan, Jade, Simone
      Bars: (Kara), Morgan, Riley, Simone
      Beam: (Morgan), Riley, Kara, Simone
      Floor: (Riley), Morgan, Jade, Simone

I do not think that Grace or Trinity can really threaten anywhere besides as All-Arounders internationally, and with the US team having the two or three best AA’s in the world right now, and with Jade and Kara also able to do AA if totally needed, I think this is the most logical team.

    • Yeah, i am kinda torn between the two. I feel like grace really earned her all around score and spot….. She actually do have the potential to challenge hurd and riley if either have any mistake and have not have much any mistakes herself. US team has always valued consistency….

On the other hand, US definitely would have more medal potential and slightly higher team score with kara, although i am still a little nervous about so many combinations in her beam routine..but if kara is consistent with her beam routine then that would be a nice addition to the team too…

either way, grace has punched her ticket to doha….even if it just being the alternate….

Now the only thing is if there will be any surprises at upcoming camps…
