4:53 pm. Grande ESA FX: Pretty open piked full-in! Just a bobble OOB. Front tuck through to double full, solid. Switch leap to switch side half. Good double pike to finish. 11.366 (4.6, 6.866, -0.1)

Raz ISR BB: Hit everything I saw at the beginning. A bit shy on the switch half. Calm and confident on a  transverse jump. Side aerial, slight check. Double full with a step back. Her coach is FREAKING out omg, they’re both so happy!! 11.500 (5.0, 6.500)

4:52 pm. Russia now second behind China! This was such an incredible competition for them. Melnikova and Akhaimova will pretty much certainly qualify to the all-around final.

For Argentina, Dominici will make it to Tokyo quote easily with her score of 52.432 today.

4:48 pm. Akhaimova RUS UB: Toe full, Maloney to blind full to Tkachev, nice. Ray to high, toe half to front giant to double front, step forward. 13.366 (5.3, 8.066)

4:47 pm. Tarabini ARG VT: Didn’t see what she did, but it looked like it went well! 14.200 (5.2, 9.000)

4:46 pm. Spiridonova RUS UB: Started typing at the Pak to van Leeuwen, nice piked Jaeger, short out of the blind change, blind full to full-in stuck, just some leg form. 15.016 (6.3, 8.716)!!!! That puts her second on bars now.

4:44 pm. Dominici ARG VT: Another excellent DTY for Argentina! Wow. 14.200 (5.4, 8.900)

Melnikova with a 56.599 AA, currently second behind Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos by under two tenths!

4:43 pm. Agafonova RUS UB: Maloney to clear hip full to piked Tkachev to Pak, nice. Van Leeuwen, inbar half to piked Jaeger, blind full, a little late, to full-in, legs in the air weren’t the best, step back, but a lovely routine. 14.700 (6.4, 8.300)

Magistrati ARG VT: Excellent DTY! 14.400 (5.4, 9.000)

4:41 pm. Ruano ESA FX: Opened with a good double pike. Everything I saw looked good!

Pisos ARG VT: FTY, good! 13.533 (4.6, 8.933)

Lavy ISR BB: Hit routine, just a slight hop on the dismount.

4:40 pm. Melnikova RUS UB: Toe full to Maloney to Pak to van Leeuwen, nice. Caught her release, blind change to toe full to full-in with a hop back. 14.700 (6.3, 8.400)

4:35 pm. Going into the final rotation, Russia is fourth, but they’re about to pick up some points on bars. I’d say at this point getting past France might be tricky, but they’d need to get a 43.049 which definitely isn’t impossible for them. That’s a 14.350 average per routine.

4:31 pm. Dominici ARG FX: Tucked full-in, wild landing, bounces OOB. Good arabian double front, little shuffle. Stuck the double tuck. Double pike, a little low. 12.566 (5.0, 7.866, -0.3)

Rodriguez PAN BB: Back handspring, split leap, split jump to wolf jump to sissone, cartwheel, full turn, slight bobble. Front pike dismount. 9.066 (2.7, 6.366)

4:30 pm. Cole BOL UB: Bail, leg separation, toe-on to toe shoot, blind full, high double tuck with a small hop. 10.500 (2.7, 7.800)

4:28 pm. Magistrati ARG FX: Double pike to start. Nice 2.5 to front tuck! Whip to double tuck, small hop. Double full with a slight hop back. Good work! 12.766 (4.9, 7.866)

Godoy PAN BB: Hit everything at the beginning. Good jump series. Layout dismount. Hit routine! 10.500 (4.4, 6.200, -0.1)

4:27 pm. Soria BOL UB: Had a miss on her release. Hit a bail when she got back on, jumps to the high bar, blind full, layout dismount. 7.483 (2.3, 5.183)

Shchekoldina RUS VT: Solid DTY! Not bad. Just a hop back. 14.500 (5.4, 9.100)

Akhaimova with a 14.633 average, currently fifth for the vault final.

4:25 pm. Akhaimova RUS VT: Second vault is the tsuk double, comes in nicely, just hits it slightly low in lunge.

4:23 pm. Fernandez ARG FX: Double pike, hop back. Hit the second pass. Double full at the end was solid. 12.433 (4.6, 7.833)

Akhaimova RUS VT: Rudi, went a bit low and long, but still got it around with no major problems. Just not the absolute cleanest, hop on the landing. 14.733 (5.8, 8.933)

Lavy ISR UB: Did a tucked Jaeger! Rare. Came off on the low bar though. 9.700 (3.6, 6.100)

Ruano ESA BB: Nice front aerial to split jump to back handspring! Hit the double full dismount. What I saw was good. 9.700 (4.7, 5.000)

4:22 pm. Melnikova RUS VT: DTY, not bad! A little deep on the landing, lunge back. Overall a solid effort. 14.433 (5.4, 9.033)

4:20 pm. Pisos ARG FX: Double pike, a little short. Double tuck with a shuffle back. Hit both of the final passes. Good start once again! 12.100 (4.5, 7.600)

Agafonova RUS VT: FTY, clean, flies back out of it into a big lunge. 13.400 (4.6, 8.800)

Grande ESA BB: Layout series, a bit piked I think. Short on some of her jumps. Hit the dismount. 10.833 (4.6, 6.233)

Raz ISR UB: Good routine from her! 11.333 (4.2, 7.133)

4:12 pm. Magistrati ARG BB: Had a beautiful triple series but then came off on her triple wolf turn. Does the double and it’s fine. Great double pike. UGH such a good routine aside from the fall. 12.000 (5.2, 6.800)

Rodriguez PAN UB: Not a lot of skills in there and she was a little iffy on some but she got through the routine well! 8.466 (2.7, 5.766)

4:11 pm. Shchekoldina RUS FX: I couldn’t see either of her first two passes but she hit both (Spencer told me she did a full-in to open). Front tuck through to 2.5 was good. Double tuck, a bit low, sits it. UGH. 11.866 (4.9, 6.966)

Ruano ESA UB: I didn’t see the beginning of this, from the crowd it sounded like she had a fall, I saw that she just had some rough legs in a pirouette near the end. Hit the dismount. Double wolf turn, some little form things in it. switch half. 9.333 (4.1, 5.233)

4:10 pm. Fernandez ARG BB: Switch leap, side aerial, good. Little bobble on the dismount. 11.233 (4.8, 6.433)

THE GERMANS IN FRONT OF US WILL NOT SIT DOWN. Spencer just aggressively tapped one of them. I’m about to start screaming.

4:09 pm. I think Giladi is injured from what I’m hearing. She was injured pretty much all of last year and that vault landing was definitely not doing her any favors. 😦

4:06 pm. Dominici ARG BB: Good bhs loso. Front aerial, little bobbles. The rest was good. Double pike, solid. 12.366 (5.0, 7.366)

Raz ISR VT: I missed this. 13.433 (4.6, 8.833)

Giladi ISR VT: Yurchenko 1.5, kind of a rough landing there. 13.333 (5.0, 8.633, -0.3)

Melnikova RUS FX: Full-twisting double layout, not bad, just a little short. Double L turn to double pirouette. Step back on her second pass, I couldn’t see it from here thanks to the German dude in front of me just casually standing up like no one is trying to watch this. Front tuck through to double full. Omg her long braid is a LOOK, I love it. Clean double pike. Solid routine. 14.100 (5.9, 8.200)!!!!

4:03 pm. Akhaimova RUS FX: Full-twisting double layout, good! Small hop. Double layout, a little low, small hop forward. Good arabian double front. She’s doing so well! Wobbly in her wolf turn. Small step on her tucked full in. Really really happy with that. 13.933 (6.0, 7.933)!!!!

Grande ESA UB: Straddle Jaeger, misses the bar completely 😦 9.033 (3.3, 5.733)

Lavy ISR VT: Handspring front tuck half, good. 13.000 (4.4, 8.600)

4:02 pm. Cole BOL VT: FTY, nice and big, small hop back.

3:59 pm. Agafonova RUS FX: Memmel turn, nice. Double pike, pretty decent, just stumbles back a bit. Switch leap to split leap. Double wolf turn. 2.5 to front tuck with a little stumble forward. Tight double tuck. Her music just kinda…ends. Awkwardly. But that was better than I expected! 12.666 (4.9, 7.766)

Pisos ARG BB: Hit everything at the beginning, was especially solid on a side somi. Hit the dismount. Great start! 11.466 (3.9, 7.566)

Godoy PAN UB: I missed this. 4.500 (1.5, 7.000, -4.0)

3:53 pm. Lavy ISR FX: Double pike, hop back OOB. Double tuck, a little short. Something into a front full. 1.5 to finish. 11.500 (4.4, 7.400, -0.3)

3:50 pm. Giladi ISR FX: Double tuck with a couple of steps back. Wild on her double L turn. I think her music is “Talk Dirty to Me” and she’s serving sass to the judges right now. Omelianchik’s like WELL I NEVER. Wild landing on her 2.5, hops it around and steps OOB. Double pike, a little short. 11.433 (4.4, 7.233, -0.2)

3:48 pm. Shchekoldina RUS BB: Candle mount, clean side aerial. Split jump to straddle jump is nice. Super solid on the bhs bhs loso! Side somi, wobbles and grabs the beam. Transverse split jump half not close to 180. Front aerial, little check. Split ring jump. Double tuck with a step back. 12.000 (5.0, 7.000)

3:46 pm. Raz ISR FX: Tucked full-in, chest down a bit with a step back. Switch ring, low back leg, to switch half. Front tuck through to double tuck, clean, hops her feet together. Good double pike. 12.333 (4.7, 7.633)

3:45 pm. Melnikova RUS BB: Hit the split leap mount and then a bhs loso, thank goodness the layout is gone! That was great. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, excellent. Kochetkova, just a little bobble. Double wolf turn. Hit a transverse jump. Hit the dismount. Fab job. 13.366 (5.4, 7.966)

Tarabini ARG UB: Huge piked Tkachev, then a huuuuge straddle Tkachev! Nice. Bail with some form issues. Blind full, blind change to front giant to double front with a hop. 12.700 (4.6, 8.100)

3:44 pm. Cole BOL FX: Hit the double tuck really well but then came in really short on her second pass, it was something like a 1.5 to punch front…something super NCAA. Go Card! Front full to stag isn’t bad. 11.500 (4.2, 7.300)

3:43 pm. Dominici ARG UB: Clear hip to Maloney to…something out of it but I didn’t see. Got the Tkachev to Pak, good. Van Leeuwen. Nice on the piked Jaeger. High stuck double tuck! 13.300 (5.3, 8.000)

3:41 pm. Agafonova RUS BB: Hit a leap, then just a check on her side aerial loso. Punch front tuck is super clean. Hit a leap series. Front aerial with a little check. Split ring jump, just a bobble there. Full Y turn, slight check. Lots of little things so far but good for her staying chill. Double tuck with a step. 13.033 (5.5, 7.533)

Grande ESA VT: FTY, not bad, hop back. 13.300 (4.6, 8.700)

3:40 pm. Magistrati ARG UB: Clean piked Jaeger, blind full, solid double layout. 12.866 (5.0, 7.866)

Ruano ESA VT: I missed this. 12.900 (4.2, 8.700)

3:37 pm. Aikahimova RUS BB: Hit everything at the beginning. She’s working so slow and steady. Arabian double front with a step. Great lead-off set. 12.900 (5.2, 7.700)

Soria BOL FX: Crashed her double tuck. Hit the next pass. 10.200 (3.9, 6.400)

Pisos ARG UB: I didn’t see this. 12.666 (4.8, 7.866)

Rodriguez PAN VT: Didn’t see this either. 12.000 (3.5, 8.500)

  1. Yikes not a good start for Schekoldina. With her scores not counting on floor and beam and the fact that she’s not used on bars, maybe Russia should think about subbing in Paseka in the TF? Paseka would bring a huge vault score and Valentina can tend to be erratic in team decisions- who knows…..

  2. Take that, Russia-hating b@@@@! Russia strong with a B-team. When Biles retires soon and the likes of Listunova and Urazova come into the scene, your reign will be over. Countdown has begun!

  3. Japan is hanging on for dear life. Are US and Brazil pretty much the only other threats?

Also, with Russia, I figured Russian Champs wouldn’t be reflective of their performance. They always seem to come through as much as they need to when it counts.

    • Unless Hungary hits everything (and I mean hit without stumbles and adjustments not just no falls), Japan is safe. Switzerland doesn’t have enough depth to put up three scores in each event to challenge.

    • Japan should pay for what they did with Mai. I would be thrilled if they don’t qualify.
