Welcome to the NCAA week one live blog! We’re trying this out this year for those of y’all who can’t watch the meets when they’re on. It’s preferable to Twitter because so much gets lost there and people who don’t care get annoyed, so we’ll see how this goes.
Updates will come every few minutes, usually after a routine has finished. Just refresh your browser and the most recent will appear at the top. Enjoy!
SUNDAY JANUARY 10
7:04 pm. The Stanford bars lineup is finished off with a 9.875 from Danielle McNair and a 9.85 from Ivana Hong. The team’s total for their first meet is a 195.0.
Now Danielle’s score is coming up as a 0 and Stanford’s overall is a 194.8? Who knows with live stats. Either way, Cal beat them by over half a point.
7:02 pm. Despite her training limited from a concussion suffered in November, Elizabeth Price puts up a 9.9 after nailing her bar routine, finishing with a 39.5 in the all-around. #JustEbeeThings
7:00 pm. For Stanford, Nicolette McNair had a solid bars set, and Taylor Rice also hit. Dare Maxwell posted a 9.675 in her collegiate debut after a fluke…she missed her hand on her bail and her feet hit the floor. She was otherwise gorgeous, however.
6:57 pm. That’ll just about do it for me tonight and this weekend…I’ll be back with a couple of Stanford updates and then week one will be in the books!
6:56 pm. Auburn defeats Oregon State 196.175 to 195.425.
6:52 pm. Over in Northern California, Cal finished their day with a 195.575, not bad! Stanford is getting ready to go on bars.
6:51 pm. UCLA beats Alabama, 196.55 to 196.3! A great meet for both teams despite some second rotation setbacks for both.
6:49 pm. Gardiner, OSU, FX- Triple full definitely under-rotated. Hit middle pass. Double pike, chest slightly down.
6:48 pm. Atkinson, Auburn, BB- Bhs loso, hit. Great rest of the routine, and she hits her side aerial into her dismount, but her leg form is pretty loose.
6:46 pm. Bynum, UCLA, FX- AWESOME double layout. Wow. Great energy. Front tuck through to double tuck is awesome. Excellent routine. 9.95
Radermacher, OSU, FX- Hit routine here…finished with a great front full to front tuck.
6:45 pm. I missed an Auburn beam routine aside from a gainer full dismount. Was a hit routine. Oh, it was Milliet! Aww, good job lady.
Alabama, BB- Great hit routine, including 1.5 dismount.
6:43 pm. Cipra, UCLA, FX- Opens with solid double tuck. I hate the choreography with the phone going off. HATE. It’s not cute and everyone thinks it is. Same with choreo where people “forget their choreo” and then suddenly remember it like “oh right!” It wasn’t cute 3 years ago when like, Risa Perez started doing it, and it’s not cute now. You’re an adult!!! Hits double pike to finish. 9.925
6:40 pm. Ohashi finishes her first NCAA all-around with a 38.625 with a fall on bars.
Demers, Auburn, BB- I missed almost this whole routine but it was hit.
A. Sims, Alabama, BB- Front aerial to split jump, flight series, both hit very well. Big check on full turn. Gainer pike dismount. 9.825
Jimenez, OSU, FX- Opens with double tuck. 1.5 to front half, a little off. Hit final pass.
6:38 pm. Perez, OSU, FX- Double pike, chest super low. Hit middle pass, a front full to front half I think, I didn’t catch it. 1.5 to front pike, and the crowd loves her. 9.625
Mossett, UCLA, FX- Whip right into the double tuck, great. Has Laurie Hernandez’s music. Headstand choreography gets big applause. Great double pike to finish. 9.95
6:36 pm. Ricci, OSU, FX- Solid double pike. Hit final pass with a little skid on her punch layout. 9.625
Beers, Alabama, BB- Great flexibility. Side somi, nails bhs loso, stuck 1.5. Awesome job. 9.85
Engler, Auburn, BB- Solid bhs loso. Full turn. Switch to straddle 1/4. Cat leap to side aerial, nailed. 1.5 a bit deep, big step forward.
6:33 pm. Krippner, Auburn, BB- Slight check on her series. Another big check on her front aerial. 1.5 with a step forward.
Francis, UCLA, FX- The crowd is going to drink so much cyanide-laced Kool-Aid after Nush graduates. Whip through to double tuck, super short and she stumbles forward. As always, love her choreo with her hair. 2.5 is nice. The James Bond sass is great, of course. Double pike stumbled back and out-of-bounds. 9.575
6:31 pm. Winston, Alabama, BB- Front aerial, nails bhs layout. Very nice work. Big double tuck to finish. 9.825
I missed an OSU floor routine!
6:29 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, FX- Having fun with the choreo already. Double tuck is good. Hits epic middle pass which has too many skills for me to type that quickly, but y’all know it ends with a split jump to punch front tuck because she’s awesome. Double pike, chest a bit low, but it’s an awesome routine. 9.85
Hlawek, Auburn, BB- Bhs layout is hit. Stuck 1.5!
6:27 pm. Cal continues to lead Stanford, 146.575 to 145.65. By nearly a point! INSANELY good work from Cal!
Brannan, Alabama, BB- Bhs loso, solid, into a beat jump. Lovely. Like Sarah Finnegan making me love LSU, Mack Brannan made me love Bama. Front toss to beat jump. 1.5 dismount with a little hop. Gets a huge hug from her coach.
6:25 pm. Alabama was leading by like 0.05 going into the final rotation, by the way! SUPER CLOSE.
Hall, UCLA, FX- Love the little ballet fifth position choreo at the beginning. 1.5 through to double tuck, awesome pass but the double tuck is very low. Front handspring front full front lay, hit. Killed it on the double pike. 9.8
623 pm. McNeer, Alabama, BB- Front aerial to bhs, very nice. Full turn. Bhs loso, also solid. Nice work. Stuck 1.5 dismount. Awesome work! 9.85
Toni-Ann Williams nailed her opening double layout for Cal!
6:21 pm. Stanford update…48.4 on floor (looks like Rice had a fall and Nicole Hoffman put up a low score) and 48.675 on vault (counted a 9.575 from Rice).
Cal had a 48.675 on beam counting five hit routines. Showing some great work on floor now!
6:17 pm. Atkinson, Auburn, FX- Tucked full-in with a step, not her best but still solid work. Double pike, step out-of-bounds.
6:13 pm. Demers, Auburn, FX- Big piked full-in, just a step. Rest of the routine is awesome. 9.875
Regarding Francis…it seems Jamaica will likely send Toni-Ann Williams, according to Twitter, even though Nush had the higher score at worlds. Makes sense since Cal probably won’t make nationals.
Gardiner, OSU, BB- Front aerial to bhs loso is very slow. Hit gainer full.
6:11 pm. Perez, OSU, BB- Front aerial, Bhs loso a little off, big wobble. She threw that series in after missing her first connection. Hit the rest.
C. Sims, Alabama, FX- Double layout is great. Front full front pike, hit. Double pike. Nice work.
6:08 pm. Hlawek, Auburn, FX- Nails double arabian to start. Great front full front lay. Perfectly stuck double tuck!
Francis, UCLA, BB- Crazy cheers. Front aerial to beat jump. Bhs loso, great. She’s like imma go to Rio this summer yo. Wonder how that’ll work, as she has to go to the test event and that’s the same week as NCAA Nationals?! Transverse aerial to gainer full is awesome. Crowd is going bananas. 9.95
6:06 pm. Beers, Alabama, FX- Double pike over-rotated with some steps back. Front lay front full is a bit low and short. Double tuck is her best pass.
McMillan, OSU, BB- Front toss to bhs is nice. A little check on her full turn. Front flip down to her knees is awesome. Switch to straddle 1/4 is slow. Gainer full stuck!
6:05 pm. Lee, UCLA, BB- Doing a hands-free routine. Sam Peszek, who is commentating the OSU/Auburn meet right now, did this her freshman year as well after she hurt her wrist from writing too much in her finals. Side aerial to layout, nice. Side aerial to layout full dismount.
Kluz, Auburn, FX- I’m missing whoever this is. SORRY! Oh, it’s Kluz. Catching the end now. Double tuck, good. In replay she opens with a tucked full-in with a step forward.
6:03 pm. Bailey, Alabama, FX- Double arabian, kills it. Just a step. Front lay front full. Great Rudi! 9.9
S. Colussi-Pelaez, OSU, BB- Split jump gets great amplitude. Bhs loso. Hits dismount with a hop back.
6:01 pm. DeJesus, UCLA, BB- Flight series is pretty but super slow. Front toss. Switch to Shushunova. Hits gainer front full dismount…awesome and unique dismount! 9.85
Rott, Auburn, FX- Nails double layout to open! Having a blast out there. Didn’t she get injured really late in the season last year? Or was that 2014? It was a bummer. Front lay front lay front pike, great. Nails double pike.
5:59 pm. Giancroce, Alabama, FX- Double pike, rebound and step back. 1.5 to front lay. Double tuck, chest down. Not bad!
Singley, OSU, BB- Split jump to stag jump. Front toss, little wobble. Off-line on bhs loso and falls. Awesome shows of her flexibility. Gainer full, hop back.
5:57 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, BB- Great mount. Bhs bhs layout, hit very nicely. Switch ring to split jump. Full turn, slightly over-rotated. Double pike, chest low and a step out but nice hit routine. She looks so happy! 9.8
Scaglione, Auburn, FX- Hit first pass. Very open double tuck. Rudi to finish. 9.75
5:55 pm. Brannan, Alabama, FX- Big smile before she starts. EXCELLENT double arabian. Stuck, feet together. Her music is super familiar. Double pike. 1.5 to front layout. Awesome job. 9.85
Jimenez, OSU, BB- Front toss to beat jump. Bhs loso. Full turn. Switch to split 1/4. Gainer pike dismount. 9.725
5:53 pm. Meraz, UCLA, BB- Lovely arm choreo at the beginning. Bhs bhs loso, nailed it. Switch half. Switch to straddle jump. Full turn. She’s also insanely steady right now. Stuck layout 1.5. Very good work. 9.85
5:51 pm. A. Sims, Alabama, FX- Double pike into a controlled lunge. 1.5 to front full. Excellent double tuck to finish.
5:49 pm. Gerber, UCLA, BB- People love her mount. Full turn, front aerial to beat jump, solid. Bhs loso, also solid. Putting up a great lead-off routine right now. Switch to split jump. Side somi. Gainer full with a hop. Such a steady routine! 9.775
Auburn leads Oregon State, 98.125 to 98.025.
5:47 pm. Alabama is ahead of UCLA, 97.825 to 97.675. So slight! Oregon State’s stats aren’t working. Stanford posted a 48.575 on beam after a fall from Hong and a low score from Spector…Cal was leading with 48.8 after the first rotation.
5:46 pm. Dessaints, OSU, UB- Giant half to Jaeger to overshoot, good. Double layout, nearly a stick, just a tiny little movement.
5:44 pm. Atkinson, Auburn, VT- AWESOME stuck Yurchenko 1.5. Aw, just moves her foot a tiny bit at the end. Her leg form is a bit messy though. Mack Brannan’s was SLIGHTLY better.
5:43 pm. Over at Stanford, Ivana Hong fell on her Onodi. Elizabeth Price hit an awesome bhs layout and a big double pike dismount.
Singley, OSU, UB- Giant half to Jaeger, falls. Giant full to double tuck is stuck.
5:42 pm. Rott, Auburn, VT-Huuuuuge FTY. Big rebound back though. 9.825
5:41 pm. Jacobsen, OSU, UB- Big Tkachev to overshoot, gaint half to double front, step forward. Very quick routine.
5:40 pm. Gardiner, OSU, UB- Bail, nice. Giant full to double tuck, a little wobble on the landing. 9.775
Meraz, UCLA, UB- Bail, Tkachev, double layout small hop. Decent work there.
Demers, Auburn, VT- FTY, excellent form, just a little deep in the landing but it’s stuck! 9.825
5:39 pm. Beers, Alabama, VT- FTY, very deep landing
5:38 pm. DeJesus, UCLA, UB- Giant full to Gienger (slight leg sep), full-in goes super far out but doesn’t get height and she lands super low with a step.
Phillips, Auburn, VT- FTY, huge rebound back, takes two steps
5:37 pm. Winston, Alabama, VT-Big FTY with a hop back.
Khamedoost, OSU, UB- Maloney with leg sep to bail, short on last handstand, double layout with a hop. 9.725
I missed the Auburn vaulter after Krippner. Think it was an FTY.
5:35 pm. M. Colussi-Pelaez, OSU, UB- Bail, nice, double layout with a hop. 9.75
Metcalf, UCLA, UB- Over-arches first handstand, Maloney, toe shoot, stuck double front but super cowboyed. Not bad but not great. 9.725
Krippner, Auburn, VT- Hit FTY
5:34 pm. Bresette, Alabama, VT- FTY, decent form, chest down a tiny bit, hop back. Remember when she was part of the GAGE junior group with Desch, Finnegan, and Dowell?! 9.675
5:33 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, UB- First handstand looks like it’s gonna arch over but she controls it. Bail to toe shoot, Tkachev is very low and too far over and she falls. Full-out with a hop. 9.225
5:32 pm. Brannan, Alabama, VT- EXCELLENT Yurchenko 1.5. The best 1.5 landing thus far in the season. Beautiful form throughout. 9.9
5:31 pm. Honest, UCLA, UB- Clear hip to big Tkachev. All handstands are slightly shy. Straddle back to pike circle. Full-in with a step back.
5:30 pm. Sims, Alabama, VT-Her run is SO weird and slow. Love it. FTY, very short, chest down. 9.525
I apparently missed Keely McNeer’s vault. She got a 9.7.
5:29 pm. Francis, UCLA, UB- Great first handstand before her Maloney to bail to toe shoot, great job. A little over on her last handstand before the giant full to double pike. 9.825
5:27 pm. From the Stanford meet, N. McNair hit beam, Spector may have missed her front tuck to bhs connection.
5:23 pm. Atkinson, Auburn, UB- Toe-on over-arches and she has to regroup and start her swing again. Does the same thing the second time she tries a toe-on and hops off. Starts her routine from scratch. Hits toe-on this time, to bail (leg sep), Tkachev is a bit low/close, and she hits the full-in with a hop back.
5:22 pm. Dessaints, Oregon State, VT- Great block off the table on her Yurchenko 1.5. Form is great until the very end where she bends her knees a bit as she opens for the landing.
5:21 pm. Milliet, Auburn, UB- My girl! Lovely first handstand. Hits Tkachev, beautiful pak, giant full to double tuck, STUCK COLD. 9.875
5:19 pm. Kluz, Auburn, UB- Huuuuuge Tkachev! Bail. Double layout with a little hop back. 9.8
I totally just thought Dana Duckworth was Miss Val. I was like why is Miss Val hanging with the Bama team?!?
Jimenez, Oregon State, VT- HUMONGOUS FTY. I wish they could’ve measured that distance. That was nuts. Crazy leg separation on her pre-flight though. And she’s off-center.
5:18 pm. Gardiner, Oregon State, VT- FTY, nice! Step back.
Bailey, Alabama, UB- Big Jaeger to start. Bail to pike circle. AWESOME STUCK FULL-OUT! YAS that was beautiful.
5:17 pm. Preston, UCLA, VT- Excellent FTY, slight hop back. She’s super powerful, got a great block. Great form. Very impressive.
Krippner, Auburn, UB- Maloney to bail (leg sep), full-in stuck.
5:15 pm. Jetter, Alabama, UB- Another Ray! Bail to toe shoot. Great work so far. Stumbles back on double front dismount but holds it up.
Ricci, Oregon State, VT- FTY, leg separation, hop back.
5:14 pm. Bynum, UCLA, VT- Yurchenko layout half, step back. 9.7
Kopec, Auburn, UB- handstand a bit short at first, Jaeger to overshoot hit nicely, awesome stuck double layout.
5:13 pm. Winston, Alabama, UB- Toe on to Ray, LOVELY! Very nice pak salto. She moves so slowly and carefully. Super clean double layout with just a tiny bounce in place. 9.9
5:12 pm. Hall, UCLA, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, great landing! Just a slight step forward and her legs are bent. 9.775
Khamedoost, Oregon State, VT- FTY, not the best form but not bad.
5:11 pm. Cerio, Auburn, UB- Caught release, bail, giant full to doubel tuck stuck. 9.8
Sims, Alabama, UB- Giant full to Tkachev with bent legs and elbows bent on her catch. Giant half to bail is a little messy. Full-in is big, step back.
5:10 pm. Cipra, UCLA, VT- Clean FTY, little bounce to the side.
Jacobsen, Oregon State, VT- Tsuk full, nice.
5:09 pm. McNeer, Alabama, UB- Ray, nice! Toe on with bent elbows to bail, hit. Double layout, leg separation and a step forward.
5:08 pm. Honest, UCLA, VT- FTY, nice landing but her body line wasn’t super clean in the air.
5:07 pm. Brannan, Alabama, UB- Nice Jaeger, bail to pike circle, very clean work, and she finishes with an excellent double layout. 9.825
5:06 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, VT- FTY with a step back. Nice start! 9.7
Alabama’s bars lineup is Brannan, McNeer, Sims, Winston, Jetter, and Bailey.
5:05 pm. UCLA’s vault lineup is Ohashi, Honest, Cipra, Hall, Bynum, and Preston.
4:47 pm. Getting ready for UCLA now! Ohashi is doing the all-around…who’s excited?! Checking in on the Lindenwood meet and it looks like Missouri came in very strong in the first rotation with six super-solid bar routines for a 48.825. Lindenwood couldn’t keep up on vault, with their event total at 48.125.
3:59 pm. All right, the Lindenwood vs Missouri meet is about to begin if you have FloPro! They defeated other Missouri rival SEMO earlier this week, so it’ll be cool to see if they can win over the big dogs at home.
I’ll be back at 5 pm for UCLA vs Alabama as well as Oregon State vs Auburn.
3:56 pm. Offutt, Pittsburgh, FX- Excellent classic rock. Piked full-in, HUGE, great landing. 1.5 front full, great. She had four passes last year…hope that’s still the case! Double pike. No, just three, but she was awesome!
3:53 pm. Dotson, Pittsburgh, FX- Double tuck, chest down. Rudi with crossed ankles. Double pike way under-rotated, puts hands down.
3:50 pm. Pittsburgh, FX- Double pike lands on the edge of a sting mat and then falls backwards and out-of-bounds. Punch layout to front full. Falls forward on double tuck.
3:47 pm. Just got some news about Stanford. Ebee had a non-gymnastics-related concussion in November that limited her time in the gym, so don’t expect her to be at her full potential. The rest of the team has also been struggling a bit.
Pittsburgh, FX- Double pike to start. Hits middle pass, which I once again missed. Front full to front pike to finish. Not bad.
3:44 pm. Pittsburgh, FX- Double pike, just a little shuffle of the feet. Nice high double tuck. Hits last pass.
3:40 pm. Pittsburgh, FX- Double pike rebounded back. Hits middle pass. Excellent double tuck.
Eastern Michigan looks like they’re killing it on bars.
Maryland, BB- Bhs loso, fell on her butt on the beam and then dropped to the floor. Looked like that hurt.
3:31 pm. West, Pittsburgh, BB- A little off on a leap. Full turn. Bhs loso, a little check at the end. Switch 3/4, nice. Front full, couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be tucked or a messy layout.
3:29 pm. Offutt, Pittsburgh, BB- Loso loso, excellent. Full turn. Feed froze…but it’s back, WOOT. Punch front to beat jump. Cat leap to switch side. Front layout 1.5 dismount. Awesome work! 9.9
3:25 pm. Towson is looking fab on floor. Some great tumbling and fun performances.
Burak, Pittsburgh, BB- Clean bhs loso. Very floaty. Full turn. Front toss, wobbles, puts hands down, then falls. Switch to wolf 3/4. Side aerial, leg up. Gainer full, step back. 9.3
3:23 pm. Pittsburgh, BB- Awesome punch tuck mount. Great amplitude on leaps. Front aerial to Korbut, lovely if a bit slow. Side aerial with a slight check. Full turn. Punch front full looked a little tucked but otherwise good work. 9.8
3:19 pm. I really wish we could see who was doing what and that the camera could focus for more than a second. Good double layout off bars from Maryland. I missed Pitt’s second beam but here we go for the third. Oh, I know who this is. 9.2
Reichert, Pittsburgh, BB- Big pause before bhs loso, check and break at the hips but she stays on. Front toss to split jump. Hits jumps to bhs. Punch front full takes her off the side of the mat.
3:13 pm. We’re def gonna get to see all of Pittsburgh’s beam routines so I’ll just add the names in later. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3:10 pm. Pittsburgh, BB- Full turn, bhs loso, both solid. Side somi, chest down. Cat leap to switch leap, gainer layout, nice. Pause between leaps and acro. Hits dismount.
Maryland’s looking good on bars, and just caught a solid FTY from someone on vault.
3:04 pm. I joined Pittsburgh right at the halfway point. Still no live stats for them so this should be fun.
North Carolina defeated William & Mary 192.4 to 189.05. UNC’s Kaitlynn Hedelund won the all-around with a 39.15, and top scores came from Brittany Stover (W&M) with 9.8 on vault, Hedelund (UNC) with 9.775 on bars, and Morgan Lane (UNC) with 9.8 on beam and 9.875 on floor.
3:01 pm. The Pittsburgh feed is back up so I’m gonna do what I can, but it might be difficult because they have four events going on and no commentary so I have no idea how I’m going to tell everyone apart. But again, I’ll try.
2:59 pm. Stypinski gets a 9.9 to bring Kent State’s floor score to a 49.025 and their total to a 195.15, defeating Temple at a 188.45.
2:57 pm. Stypinski, Kent State, FX- Big double layout to start followed by a huge double pike. WOW, 2.5 to punch front layout!! EXCELLENT there, especially for a final pass!
2:55 pm. Gambuti, Temple, BB- Front aerial, wobble, connected to bhs, wobble. Hop wolf jump to what was an attempt at an illusion I think but it was waaaaay off. Gainer tuck off the end of the beam.
2:53 pm. Hardison, Kent State, FX- Excellent double pike but she takes a step forward. Rudi loso is great. Powerful Rudi to finish. Nicely executed throughout.
2:52 pm. Kennedy, Temple, BB- Bhs loso, solid. She looks the most confident out of this team. Switch to straddle half, a little short. Cat leap to side aerial to tuck full dismount off to the side.
2:50 pm. Lamano, Kent State, FX- Huge double pike. She has some Toddlers & Tiaras pageant faces in this routine. But omg her music is “TEQUILA!” (you know, like from the Pee Wee Herman movie bar scene) and everyone yells it. LOVE. Front lay front full is great. Double tuck is way short.
2:49 pm. Oliveri, Temple, BB- Full turn, Bhs loso hit well but with bent legs. Switch to split 3/4. Hitch kick to side aerial to tuck full dismount, legs are loose there.
2:47 pm. Eastman, Kent State, FX- Triple full slightly under-rotated but she hops it around. Nice Rudi loso!!! Only two passes. Good job.
2:45 pm. Arone, Temple, BB- Hits jump series. Big pause before her bhs loso and she falls. Wobble on full turn. Cat leap to side aerial, chest down. 1.5 dismount with some steps.
2:44 pm. Kosmerl, Kent State, FX- Double pike with knees bent. Solid double tuck. Hits front full front lay to finish.
2:42 pm. Gipson, Temple, BB- Front toss, misses connection, so goes again. She’s thinking about it for a solid minute. Front toss to Korbut, nice. Full turn, switch to split 3/4. Nice hit gainer full.
2:40 pm. Romito, Kent State, FX- Good double tuck to start. 1.5 to front layout, good. Rudi is way off to finish. She’s a great performer!
2:39 pm. Wiczkowski, Temple, BB- Check on bhs loso. Cat leap to front toss with a little hop. Full turn. Switch to straddle 1/4 and a gainer pike off the end of the beam.
2:30 pm. Kent State leads 146.125 to Temple’s 141.6 going into the final rotation.
2:26 pm. Vahala, Temple, FX- Double tuck, hands down unfortunately. Another one with someone’s elite music from this year and I CAN’T FIGURE IT OUT. It’s the “Sherlock” theme, whoever did that.
2:24 pm. Stypinski, Kent State, BB- Front aerial with a break between that and the back tuck, falls. Bhs loso with bent legs and a check. Switch leap to jump series, full turn, double full dismount with a step. Well, at least that was their only fall!
2:22 pm. Odom, Temple, FX- I loved her last year. She has a superb floor routine. Again, awesome performance value. Great front double full. Whip half to front full looked a tiny bit off but hit. Double tuck under-rotated but overall a great routine.
2:20 pm. Marrero, Kent State, BB- Excellent connection on her front aerial to bhs! Smoothest I’ve seen that popular combo done all weekend. Sissone to tuck jump full didn’t get any amplitude though. Gainer full with a step.
2:18 pm. Gipson, Temple, FX- She had a great bar routine. Front tuck to front handspring to layout half, awesome! Love these interesting passes. Double tuck, a little under-rotated. She also has some elite music but I can’t think of who’s it is. Handspring Rudi.
2:17 pm. Eastman, Kent State, BB- Solid bhs loso and full turn. Elegant switch to straddle 1/4. Cat leap to front aerial. Switch side. Stuck front full dismount to finish. Great!
2:15 pm. Anderson, Temple, FX- Ooh, she moves really well and really emotes even just in her opening choreo. HUGE double pike. Excellent landing! I think this is Gabby’s floor music? Punch tuck full through to double full, awesome. Great Rudi to finish, just her chest down at the end. Awesome job.
2:13 pm. Lippowitsch, Kent State, BB- Lovely bhs loso. Beat jump to split full, not a great split there. Cat leap to side aerial. Hit dismount. Good job for her!
2:11 pm. Kent State got an awesome 49.125 on bars! That’s better than a lot of the top teams.
Tucker, Temple, FX- Double pike, some leg form and her chest was down. Front tuck through to double full, also with her chest down a bit, but a good pass. Ooh, she went for a punch Rudi as her last pass but only got it around as a full and then kind of collapsed on her side.
2:08 pm. I don’t have the feed at ALL anymore and apparently no one can watch it. I’m moving over to see the rest of Kent State and Temple if you want to follow this meet.
2:03 pm. Okay this feed is literally the worst thing ever, and I’m trying it out on both my phone over data and laptop using wifi, so it’s definitely them, not me. I’ll do what I can but it’s looks like the feed is about 50 hours behind the sound.
2:01 pm. Intros happening now, and the video feed looks super choppy so hopefully that gets cleared up.
1:48 pm. Hey y’all! I’m about to watch the Pittsburgh, Maryland, Towson, and Eastern Michigan quad beginning at 2 pm. I’ll do all live updates here if you’re interested.
Kent State and Temple are also battling it out right now, and though Temple had to count a fall on bars in the first rotation, they’re actually looking pretty good there, with Sahara Gipson’s 9.7 their leading score at the moment. But Kent State is likely to win, as they’re already counting several scores in the 9.8 range.
There’s also William & Mary at UNC, which I’m not watching so I can focus on the quad meet, but there’s the link if you’re into it.
SATURDAY JANUARY 9
10:44 pm. That’s it for tonight! I’ll be back tomorrow, same place, definitely for Oregon State vs Auburn and UCLA vs Alabama, both at 5 pm ET.I’ll also try to throw in some earlier meets if I can! Have a good night!
10:40 pm. Ohio State pulls out the win by half a point, 194.275 to Washington’s 193.725. Washington counted falls on bars and beam, and were best on floor with a 48.8. No falls counted for Ohio State, but they did have a bunch of low scores in the mix, in the 9.5-9.6 range.
Northey slightly edged out Mattern for the all-around title, 39.225 to 39.125.
10:37 pm. Schaefer, Washington, FX- Nails double tuck to start. Front full front full, stag jump. Double pike is definitely short, super low to the ground, but she stands up out of it.
10:36 pm. Harrison, Ohio State, BB- Beautiful bhs loso. Rest of the routine is good, and she finishes with a cat leap to a gainer full dismount.
10:34 pm. Yacalis, Washington, FX- Tucked full-in, a bit short. Double tuck is great, though. Whip to 1.5 to punch front, awesome. 9.8
10:32 pm. Hofland, Ohio State, BB- Bhs loso is solid. Oooh, double turn. LOVE. Full-twisting back handspring! This girl’s packing it all in. Switch leap, misses a connection. Tries again, switch to split jump. She must be doing what was mostly her elite routine. Ooh, gainer tuck full off the end of the beam?!?! That’s unique and awesome.
10:30 pm. Northey, Washington, FX- Double pike into a controlled lunge, lovely. She’s getting down with her bad self. Am I a grandma for saying that? 1.5 to front layout is great. Double tuck with an awesome landing!
10:29 pm. Kent, Ohio State, BB- My feed froze and I missed the beginning. But it looked like there was a fall. Cat leap to front aerial, slight check. Gainer pike dismount. 9.325
10:27 pm. Morrison, Washington, FX- Arabian double front, step forward. Front full front layout with a step. Double tuck is super under-rotated but a solid hit routine. 9.75
10:25 pm. Merkle, Ohio State, BB- Headstand mount and she looks like she’s going to fall! Somersaults out like WTF. Hits leap/jump series. Front aerial to beat jump. Bhs loso is steady. Switch to gainer pike dismount. Shame about the mount issues because that was otherwise a great routine.
10:23 pm. Duranczyk, Washington, FX- Front tuck through to double pike, excellent! Double tuck, hops back a little bit. Again somehow missed the middle pass. Is this subconscious? Am I disappearing mentally? 9.75
10:20 pm. Burleson, Washington, FX- Double pike, great. 1.5 to punch front, also great. I missed the end… 9.625
…and I also missed like the entire beam for Mattern, but it looked like she hit, she’s super happy yo.
10:18 pm. Dunn, Ohio State, BB- Bhs loso, slight check at the end. A little wobbly here and there but hit routine.
10:13 pm. “If Mattern competed in the SEC, her routine would’ve easily been a 9.9.” Bless this Washington commentator for laying down the truth.
10:08 pm. Mattern, Ohio State, FX- Super open double layout. Front lay front full is super off line but no problems otherwise. Double pike with a step forward, under-rotated. Omg, her smile coming out of this pass, though! LOVE.
10:05 pm. Rose, Washington, BB- Lovely jump split mount! Front aerial to bhs is a bit slow but hit. Full Y turn is great. This girl is a walk-on! Cat leap to side aerial, excellent. Side aerial to layout full, her body line is a little loose but how awesome for her to kill it as the beam anchor in your first meet as a freshman walk-on?! 9.75
10:04 pm. Harrison, Ohio State, FX- Triple full to open, awesome! 2.5 to punch front, couldn’t tell if it was piked or a messy layout, and she hits a bit short. Rudi at the end, not bad!
10:02 pm. Northey, Washington, BB- Full turn, bhs loso is excellent, layout 1.5 dismount with a hop. Fantastic! Brought them right back.
Apparently Nina McGee at Denver got a perfect 10 on floor!!! Not bad for your first meet. She was AWESOME at NCAAs last year. The whole arena cheered her on like MAD because she was in floor finals without a team there to go wild. Such an amazing moment.
10:00 pm. McClelland, Ohio State, FX- Double pike, a tiny bit low but she still rotates it nicely. Front lay front layout full. I CAUGHT A MIDDLE PASS. So proud. Double tuck, low on the landing.
9:59 pm. Burleson, Washington, BB- Bhs loso, way off, and she falls. Side aerial, hip check. Switch to straddle 1/4, lovely. Full turn. Side aerial into layout full, very nice there.
9:57 pm. Malone, Ohio State, FX- Double pike into a controlled lunge, excellent. Why can’t I ever see middle passes?! I blink and miss them. I think I saw a layout half into like, a straddle jump or something, who knows. Sorry. Double tuck is super short, bounced forward.
9:55 pm. Janik, Washington, BB- Ughhhh her opening sequence is beautiful. Dead. Front aerial with a wobble, and that’s her series so she has to start over. Front aerial with another wobble. And so she doesn’t have a series right now. Does a bhs loso improvised and falls. I mean, cool that she tried to go for an improv flight series. Off again on the side aerial. Gainer pike off the end.
9:53 pm. Merkle, Ohio State, FX- 2.5 to punch front, a little messy. Double pike, under-rotated. Double tuck, also way under-rotated, almost to her knees.
9:52 pm. Duranczyk, Washington, BB- Excellent standing loso to loso. Wolf jump to beat jump to a switch 3/4, maybe? I couldn’t really tell, her legs looked off. Layout 1.5, hop forward.
9:50 pm. Abrams, Ohio State, FX- Double pike into a lunge. How did I miss her middle pass?! Double tuck at the end, cowboyed, over-rotated a bit.
9:48 pm. Goings, Washington, BB- Lovely opening choreo. Bhs bhs loso, a little stumble but she holds onto it very well. Jumps are excellent. Full turn, gainer loso, side aerial to layout full with a step.
9:43 pm. No live stats working I guess…I’ll post results if I hear them on the stream!
9:39 pm. Mattern, Ohio State, VT- Ooooooh, a handspring pike half but with the twist BEFORE the pike! NIIIIIIICE. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Northey, Washington, UB- Giant half to piked Jaeger, great. Right down to overshoot. Full-in with a small step back.
9:36 pm. Van Putten, Ohio State, VT- FTY, form is a little wonky, but she hits. Last minute lineup addition.
Duranczyk, Washington, UB-Catches Jaeger close, bail with messy legs, double layout nearly stuck, just a little bobble on what looks like an 8 inch mat.
9:33 pm. Stone, Ohio State, VT- Yurchenko layout half, knees are TOTALLY locked as she misses the blind landing pretty much completely. That looked like it HURT yo.
Stowe, Washington, UB- Giant half and then she just slips right off the bar?! Like on the front giant coming down before the Jaeger. YIKES. Gets back on, and starts from scratch. Catches the Jaeger, bail with slightly bent elbows, bends her knees on a front giant before her double front and then just hops off like yeah I’m done.
9:32 pm. Hofland, Oho State, VT- Nice FTY. Just a little piked and then a hop back on the landing.
Janik, Washington, UB- Giant half, pak, toe shoot, giant full to double tuck with a step. Not bad!
9:30 pm. Merkle, Ohio State, VT- So I think this one is ACTUALLY supposed to be an FTY but she was piked and her knees were bent. Definitely just messy form there.
Schaefer, Washington, UB- Giant full to Tkachev and she misses completely. Doesn’t even try to catch from what it looks like. Messy bail, double layout with a step back.
9:28 pm. Malone, Ohio State, VT- Yurchenko full but tucked…couldn’t tell if it was meant to be tucked or a mistake at first but yeah, it was definitely intentional. I always just assume the worst. Good work there.
Burleson, Washington, UB- Lovely first handstand, toe on to HUGE Tkachev. Apparently hit her foot on the low bar on her swing before her bail. Giant full to double tuck is suuuuper high and over the bar but she ends up hitting it nicely.
9:26 pm. Scores from the first rotation:
Washington VT- Goings 9.65, Liddle 8.975, Burleson 9.725, Northey 9.75, Yacalis 9.7, Stowe 9.675 = 48.5
Ohio State UB- Merkle 9.025, Kent 9.85, Matterns 9.45, Abrams 9.75, Harrison 9.5, Hofland 9.775 = 48.325
Ohio State’s vault lineup is Malone, Merkle, Hofland, Stone, Harrison, and Mattern.
9:24 pm. Washington’s bars lineup is Burleson, Schaefer, Janik, Stowe, Duranczyk, and Northey.
9:18 pm. Stowe, Washington, VT- FTY, a little piked, step back.
Hofland, Ohio State, UB- Jaeger, beautiful. Bail is super straight in handstand. Double front with a slight hop. I like her a lot!
9:17 pm. Yacalis, Washington, VT- Lovely FTY, just takes a step back at the end.
Harrison, Ohio State, UB- Shaposh to pak with super open legs, and she loses herself on a kip on the low bar? Giant full to double tuck with a little foot movement.
9:14 pm. Northey, Washington, VT- Great FTY, little hop back, and she didn’t get a ton of height (her block was super high on the table), but she looked really clean.
Abrams, Ohio State, UB- Great Jaeger. Last handstand arches over a little but she gets back on track and hits her double layout, which is a bit piked but hit.
9:12 pm. Burleson, Washington, VT- Huge FTY with a bounce back. She’s very happy with that!
Mattern, Ohio State, UB- Giant half with leg separation into a Jaeger into an overshoot. Misses hands on the overshoot but keeps going like a madwoman! NUTSO. Hit giant full to double tuck.
9:09 pm. Liddle, Washington, VT- Front handspring front pike, sits.
Kent, Ohio State, UB- Toe on to big Tkachev, nice! Bail with messy arms in the catch, struggles through giant full into the double tuck, but has a good landing there.
9:03 pm. Here we go!
Goings, Washington, VT- Nice FTY, step back. Very clean.
Merkle, Ohio State, UB- Misses Jaeger. Bail to toe shoot, giant full to double pike a bit short with a step.
8:57 pm. Well, I couldn’t access Minnesota, so we’re gonna move right on to Washington vs Ohio State! Stay tuned for the live blog coming in a few minutes!
6:40 pm. All right, I’ll be back in about an hour for the next meet in the docket!
6:36 pm. LSU wins 196.95 to Oklahoma’s 196.725. Great and super close meet with both teams killing it!
6:33 pm. Gnat, LSU, FX- Huge double layout! 2.5 to punch front tuck. Double pike, excellent!
6:31 pm. Capps, Oklahoma, BB- Absolutely beautiful mount. Love her stag ring leap. Bhs loso to beat jump is super steady. Switch to straddle 1/4. Stuck gainer full. She’s fabulous.
6:29 pm. Kelley, LSU, FX- Double layout, chest down. Front lay front full. Double tuck, chest down.
6:27 pm. Lovan, Oklahoma, BB- Switch to straddle 1/4. Off on bhs loso. NOOOOOO. Front aerial to split jump. Gainer full hit.
6:26 pm. Zamardi, LSU, FX- Very high double arabian. 1.5 front lay, good. Rudi looks a tiny bit short but she hits, just with her leg back.
6:24 pm. Brown, Oklahoma, BB- Her toe point is QUEEN. BLESS. Front aerial bhs bhs is GREAT. Switch to gainer full, nearly stuck. Just gorgeous. She is so beautiful to watch.
6:22 pm. Hambrick, LSU, FX- Double layout, a little short. 1.5 to front tuck. Finishes well with a double pike, just slightly short. Very nice work.
6:21 pm. Jones, Oklahoma, BB- Bhs loso looks a bit low but she hits it well. Wait, she has “Wonderwall” as her beam music?! YAS PLEASE?! Front toss. Quick and clean leaps. 1.5 slight hop to the side. Good girl.
6:19 pm. Wyrick, LSU, FX- Tucked full-in is short but she hits. Whip half front lay front lay I think? I was typing. Cool pass either way. Double tuck to finish.
6:18 pm. Lehrmann, Oklahoma, BB- Starts with a lovely full turn, front aerial, bhs loso, all fantastic. Switch side to Shushunova, and some nice low to beam stuff happening. Stuck 1.5 COLD. WOW. Makes up for her bars 900%.
6:16 pm. Ewing, LSU, FX- Front double full to start, looks great. Front full to front lay, stuck cold. Double pike, controlled lunge. Great job but the routine itself is forgettable after OU’s routines.
6:14 pm. Kmieciak, Oklahoma, BB- Bhs loso, nailed. Beat jump to straddle 1/2, lovely full turn, double tuck with a lunge back. Very happy with that routine.
6:06 pm. Natalie Brown of Oklahoma is doing a floor exhibition and she has AWESOME Game of Thrones music. LOVE.
Oklahoma leads 147.525 to LSU’s 147.425. A TENTH. But y’all know LSU will bring it on floor. BUT OKLAHOMA WILL BRING IT ON BEAM.
6:02 pm. Scaman, Oklahoma, FX- Killer double layout. Rudi to loso, great. Double tuck. Excellent routine.
6:01 pm. Gnat, LSU, BB- Front aerial beat jump, hits leap/jump combo. Perfect bhs loso. 1.5 stuck.
5:59 pm. Jackson, Oklahoma, FX- Nails everything, including solid double pike to finish. Is she going by AJ this year? Or are they drunk in the commentary booth?
5:58 pm. Finnegan, LSU, BB- TRIPLE WOLF TURN!!!!!!!!!!!! SARAH FINNEGAN. I’m too excited about that to care about anything else, but DAMN that was great. As a whole, yes, but I can’t get over that she can still do this turn. And it looks better than 98% of wolf turns in elite right now.
5:55 pm. Jones, Oklahoma, FX- Glad she’s finally getting her time of day! 2.5 to punch front tuck, YAS! Excellent. 1.5 to front layout. Great double pike to finish. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE.
5:54 pm. Priessman, LSU, BB- I still can’t believe I’m watching Lexie compete NCAA after following her since she was 12. Bhs loso with slightly bent legs, switch to straddle 1/4. looks confident. Switch 1/4. Beautiful and quick full turn. Front aerial, tiniest check. Sissone to gainer pike, nearly stuck. BAM, LEXIE!!!!!
5:52 pm. Capps, Oklahoma, FX- SOOOO EXCITED. Nails double pike. Sticks, then lunges out of it. Choreo killing it. KILLING IT. Front full front layout. Rudi is a little short to finish off but yeah, she’s awesome, and she just kind of dies as her final pose. LOVE.
5:51 pm. Ewing, LSU, BB- “Hallelujah” as her beam music, so YAS. Nails flight series, though the layout looked a little piked. Sticks 1.5 dismount cold.
Michigan beat Georgia 196.925 to 195.2. Michigan kind of on top of things this year so far. Some falls and mistakes but they’re coming back from every single one.
5:50 pm. Lovan, Oklahoma, FX- Ooh, this routine is soooo fun and SO different from last year’s. Kara can do anything performance-wise! Tumbling is excellent and she nails the double pike to finish.
5:48 pm. Hambrick, LSU, BB- They’re talking about losing Jessie Jordan like she died, not graduated, hahaha. Hit bhs loso. Beautiful stuck double full!
5:45 pm. Macadaeg, LSU, BB- Switch to switch half to beat jump. Front aerial to straddle jump, great amplitude. Off on bhs loso.
Jay, Georgia, BB- Doing an exhibition routine. Some bobbles, but she has a Shushunova around the beam so YAAAAAS. Not bad for her first beam since what, her elite days?!
Kmieciak, Oklahoma, FX- Double pike, front lay front full with a step, good double tuck. Excellent job!
5:41 pm. Box, Georgia, BB- Tuck jump full, solid bhs loso, moonwalk and Michigan crowd”s like “we don’t care.” Front aerial to scale. 1.5 dismount.
Artz, Michigan, FX- Big piked full-in. Front lay front full. Double pike. Great routine.
5:38 pm. Rogers, Georgia, BB- Front aerial to wolf jump, little bobble on the jump, full-twisting bhs, bhs loso, everything’s looking great. Full turn, her special little quarter bhs to stag handstand hold, has to muscle it a tiny bit. 1.5 dismount.
Chiarelli, Michigan, FX- Big double arabian, into a lunge. 1.5 to front lay. Great double pike.
Ooh, Karas got a 9.95 on floor. Kind of makes the pain of two falls hurt a wee bit less.
5:34 pm. Cherrey, Georgia, BB- Bhs loso, nice. Bobble on a side somi.
Jackson, Oklahoma, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, hop. Great job, lots of power.
Zamardi, LSU, UB- Markelov, nice. Form is excellent. Double arabian dismount, takes a step to the side.
Karas, Michigan, FX- Double arabian, step forward. I missed her middle pass but she hits her double pike into a controlled lunge.
Priessman, LSU, UB- Exhibition. Big Tkachev to pak, and she stumbled back her double layout.
5:31 pm. Schick BB- Falls right away. Front aerial to jumps, not bad. Gainer full, little stumble.
Wyrick, LSU, UB- Big Tkachev, bail, double layout with her chest down and a step.
Scaman, Oklahoma, VT- Big FTY. Beautiful! Tiny hop.
McLean, Michigan, FX- Great opening, hit second pass as well. And hit her last pass. I was paying attention but not super closely because FINNEY.
Finnegan, LSU, UB- Funny that this leo looks like one of the GAGE dominatrix leos. Ray to start, toe on to bail to toe shoot, LOVELY. PERFECTLY stuck double layout. YAAAAAAAAAAS FINNEY!!!!!!!!!!
5:27 pm. Hambrick, LSU, UB- Ray, huge! Full-in, super low, bent knees, but hit.
Babalis, Georgia, BB- Hitting everything well, including punch layout full dismount.
Kmieciak, Oklahoma, VT- Perfect stuck FTY. Oklahoma’s vault is CRAZY today!!!!
Brown, Michigan, FX- Great double pike, 1.5 to front lay, great. Falls forward on double tuck, hands down. Think she was on her knees too.
Savona, LSU, UB- Shaposh (probably Maloney, I didn’t see the entry though) to bail, low Tkachev, double layout SO close to the bar I thought she was gonna die, but she hit it.
Capps, Oklahoma, VT- FTY, hop back.
5:25 pm. Broussard, Georgia, BB- She fell before I even got a chance to type her name. SIGH. Almost off a second time on an aerial. Cat leap to gainer full dismount with a step.
Lehrmann, Oklahoma, VT- Beautiful FTY
Gnat, LSU, UB- Giant full to Gienger, bail is messy, hit dismount.
Casanova, Michigan, FX- Great double pike. She’s performing SO well. Rudi. I think I missed the middle pass.
Jones, Oklahoma, VT- Excellent stuck FTY!
5:22 pm. Lineups!
Michigan FX- Casanova, Brown, McLean, Karas, Chiarelli, Artz
Georgia BB- Broussard, Babalis, Schick, Cherrey, Rogers, Box
Look at Cherrey getting a prime spot in that beam lineup! I’m excited to see it.
5:13 pm. Hambrick, LSU, VT- Beautiful FTY.
Chiarelli, Michigan, BB- Hit everything I’ve seen, nails double tuck dismount.
Wofford, Oklahoma, UB- Beautiful giant full right on top of the bar, lovely Jaeger, just gorgeous work so far. Toe on to bail, sticks full-in. NAILED routine. EXCELLENCE. That was the best full-in EVER.
Jay, Georgia, FX- Half-in half-out, step back. Ugh sits 1.5 to front tuck!!! Bummer. Hits last pass. UGH I’m gutted about the middle pass.
Gnat, LSU, VT- STUCK DTY!!!!!!!!!! Holy balls. Her form is a holy mess but I’d be okay with a 10, not gonna lie.
Kmieciak, Oklahoma, UB- Ray, great. Bail to toe shoot, full-in stuck with feet apart. Great job.
5:09 pm. Capps, Oklahoma, UB- A little short on handstands, giant full to Tkachev on top of the bar, full-in with a step. Not bad!
Artz BB- Nice pike jump to straddle 3/4. Front aerial, leg up. Full turn. Front toss to something backwards, I missed it…and punch 1.5 dismount. Hit!
Wyrick, LSU, VT- Lovely Yurchenko layout half. Tiny step.
Rogers, Georgia, FX- Double arabian, a bit low and she stumbles forward but doesn’t put her hands down. Double pike into a controlled lunge. I missed her middle pass but am 99% sure she hit it.
Scaman, Oklahoma, UB- Catches release, bail, full-in with a tiny step back.
5:06 pm. Lehrmann, Oklahoma, UB- I missed their first bars routine! Jaeger close to the bar but nice. Toe on to bail and she over arches. Tried to save it with a switch kip but has to hop off. Looks PISSED. Full-in, small step.
Williams, Michigan, BB- Aggressive bhs loso. Hit 1.5 dismount.
Box, Georgia, FX- Double pike, 1.5 to front layout, both good. She’s performing her pants off. Double tuck hit to finish. Great job!
Priessman, LSU, VT- EEEEEEE!!!! Huge FTY. HUGE. Little bounce back. Awwww Lexie.
5:03 pm. Marinez, Michigan, BB- Front aerial to bhs, paused before split jump but I think she wants to connect them. Great cat leap to side aerial. Good routine but her dismount, a double full, is suuuuuper wild in terms of form. Maybe just a bad set but yeah, the legs were everywhere.
Marino, Georgia, FX- I missed like this entire routine but it was hit!!!
Macadaeg, LSU, VT- FTY, super low landing
Ewing, LSU, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, hop forward.
4:59 pm. Brown, Michigan, BB- Beautiful front aerial to bhs. I loooove her hair. But she still looks 12. Her face!! So young. Hits leaps, cat leap to side somi. Great job with connections. A little overboard on full turn. Stuck double full. Hot DAMN that was a great routine. 9.8
Babalis, Georgia, VX- Double tuck, controlled lunge. I may have missed something in the middle there due to LSU scaring the crap out of me when the SEC Network started up. Hit last pass. 9.825
Lexie Priessman looks like she was warming up! Her first meet since what, 2013 Classics?!
4:56 pm. Karas, Michigan, BB- Classiest pre-mount stance ever. Punch front, pause, beat jump. Cat leap to switch half and she’s off. Second fall for her today. Kind of a bummer after the epic debut she had in Cancun. Hits bhs loso. Nice full turn. Gainer pike off the end of the beam. 9.175
Snead, Georgia, FX- Whip through do double tuck, great landing. Rudi to split jump, great amplitude. Double pike, a bit low but hit. Came across as a little low energy in this arena but I think it’ll kill in Athens. 9.825
4:53 pm. Okay, Penn State is gonna have to take a hike so I can follow LSU vs Oklahoma, the biggest meet of the weekend hands down.
Lineups!
Michigan BB- Karas, Brown, Marinez, Williams, Artz, Chiarelli
Georgia FX- Snead, Babalis, Marino, Box, Rogers, Jay
HOLY HELL the last half of the Georgia floor lineup is gonna KILL ME.
4:49 pm. After two rotations, Michigan leads 98.25 to Georgia’s 98.05.
Lauren Marinez just had a great exhibition routine on bars for Michigan.
Penn State leads NC State 97.575 to 97.3. In a UB exhibition for PSU, Oni Timothy crashed HARD right onto the coach, I think on her overshoot. I missed the details but yeah, she basically landed right on him and the dude on commentary was like “great catch” LOL. No. She looked kind of hurt from what it looked like? He’s prob not feeling too great either.
4:45 pm. Karas, Michigan, UB- Funky…don’t really know what went wrong, but her clear hip around the low bar kept going on and on for 5 hours, it felt like. Then she rested her hips on the bar, tried to keep going, and had to hop off. Finishes with double layout, stuck cold. 8.85
Jay, Georgia, VT- Huge Yurchenko 1.5, sticks it on her toes and glues them into the mat and fights like HELL to hold it. Her toes are gripping the mat like crazy. Love it. 9.8
Brown, Michigan, UB- Big Ray to pak, beauuuutiful. Double layout, tiny hop back. 9.875
4:40 pm. Christopherson, Michigan, UB- Ray, bail, giant full to double tuck, second time we get that dismount. Decent work. Not the greatest lines though. 9.825
Snead, Georgia, VT- Clean FTY, sticks and just kind of lifts onto her toes. Great! 9.875
Sheppard, Michigan, UB- Giant full to Tkachev to straddle back, all good. Super pikey double layout, lands low, hops forward. 9.8
Marino, Georgia, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, and she sat it. New NCAA tradition. 😦 9.3
Artz, Michigan, UB- Hit routine, looked very clean, floaty double layout. 9.9
Rogers, Georgia, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, leg separation on the pre-flight and looked like she had tiny steps. 9.7
Kiera Brown of Penn State just kiiiiilled bars.
4:37 pm. Broussard, Georgia, VT- FTY, step back. Good lead-off vault.
Casanova, Michigan, UB- Giant full to Gienger to overshoot, great! Giant full to double tuck, tiny step. 9.8
Vaculik, Georgia, VT- Stuck FTY! VERY nice. Though not super dynamic. 9.8
Tsang, Penn State, UB- Beautiful Jaeger but then she went straight into the overshoot and flew off the low bar. Yikes. She’s usually fabulous here. Lovely double layout with a hop. Looks like MEHHH kill meeeee.
4:34 pm. Nicole Medvitz of PSU hit a good bars routine, including a pak. She has some pretty turns on beam.
Lineups!
Michigan UB- Casanova, Christopherson, Sheppard, Artz, Karas, Brown
Georgia VT- Broussard, Vaculik, Snead, Marino, Rogers, Jay
4:31 pm. I have a renewed faith in Georgia this year. Like…their senior class is IT for me. Brandie, Brittany, and Mary Beth breathed live into this team when it was crashing and burning. They became freshmen the first year Danna Durante signed on as coach, and they’ve all been fabulous leaders even when they were underclassmen. I really hope they kill it this year. They deserve it!
4:28 pm. Penn State is really hard to follow because they keep bouncing between MAG and WAG. Ain’t nobody got time for that. I’ll let you know if I see something especially snazzy.
Brown, Michigan, VT- Exhibition Yurchenko layout. I’m guessing she’s getting over an injury.
I have no idea who’s doing a bars exhibition for Georgia, but she has some nice work. Hit routine there.
Right now Georgia is leading 49.125 to Michigan’s 49.05.
4:26 pm. Karas, Michigan, VT- Yurchenko 1.5 with a step forward. Mostly good form. 9.9
Rogers, Georgia, UB- Ray to pak, excellent. Toe on to van Leeuwen. She’s casually busting out her Rio skills. Double layout with a hop back. LOVE. 9.875
4:23 pm. Schick, Georgia, UB- Excellent Tkachev AND piked Jaeger! BUT THEN SHE PUTS HER HANDS DOWN ON HER DOUBLE LAYOUT. Ughhhhh WHY. 9.25
Sheppard, Michigan, VT- FTY, step back, looked a little tentative and not as aggressive as we usually see her. 9.8
Jay, Georgia, UB- Great first handstand, toe on to bail, Markelov, full-twisting double layout! Pretty sure that’s a new dismount for her? 9.825
4:21 pm. Artz, Michigan, VT- FTY with a hop back. 9.725
Snead, Georgia, UB- Hit everything, beautiful stuck double layout! 9.9
Tsang, Penn State, VT- Hit Yurchenko 1.5, looked great.
Chiarelli, Michigan, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, bent body line. Funny because it actually was reminiscent of Aly’s Amanar form. #BrestyansProbs 9.875
4:18 pm. McLean, Michigan, VT- Decent FTY, nothing special. 9.75
Cherrey, Georgia, UB- Caught it from the end, double layout with some slight leg separation, landed a big low but she looks super happy. 9.75
Two stuck FTYs in a row from Penn State, from Mason Hosek and Sabrina Garcia.
4:16 pm. Briley Casanova, Michigan, VT- Went for the Yurchenko 1.5 and stumbled back, sat. Bummer. We’re two days in and this is already a theme. Isn’t not falling preferable to getting an extra 0.05?! 9.275
Natalie Vaculik, Georgia, UB- Toe on to giant half to piked Jaeger, NOICE. Bail. Full-in with a step. Good start. 9.775
4:13 pm. Kiera Brown, PSU, VT- formerly of Georgia, hits an FTY with a hop.
Oni Timothy, PSU, VT- FTY landed with her chest down, step back. Sharaya Musser says HEIGHTH instead of height. 😦
4:05 pm. Lineups!
Michigan VT- Casanova, McLean, Artz, Chiarelli, Sheppard, Karas
Georgia UB- Vaculik, Cherrey, Snead, Schick, Jay, Rogers
Over at Penn State, it’s going to be MAG and WAG I think? Or just MAG exhibition stuff because I don’t think NC State has a MAG gym team…if they do, I’ve literally never heard of them. Sharaya Musser is helping out with commentary! I miss her. Oh, for MAG it’s Penn State vs Army.
3:59 pm. One minute! Sorry I didn’t blog anything last night. I watched Florida and was underwhelmed by their lack of enthusiasm, though looooved seeing Peyton Ernst back on beam.
All right, streams are coming on! I’ll be back in a bit once everything starts.
3:55 pm. I’m going to try to tackle Michigan vs Georgia and Penn State vs NC State to start out the day. In an hour, I’ll bring LSU vs Oklahoma into the mix, at 7:30 pm I’ll move on to Minnesota vs Iowa State, and at 8 pm I’ll add Washington vs Ohio State.
