The team was literally the only option they had considering who they invited and who ended up participating. It really is shocking the state of the men’s program right now. I truly do not understand why more specialists weren’t invited. I’m also confused if it’s because people took a break or retired so quickly after Olympic trials or Tokyo when this would be the best chance to win a medal US men have had in years! Sam, Gage and Eddie? Just bizarre. I wish them the best, including a new high performance director.

I think Eddie’s still injured, and Sam is probably over it, but I’m not sure why Gage – who was invited – didn’t go. I’ve seen some comments like “maybe he and his coach will share when they’re ready” so I feel like something shady went down. But they should have invited others. With just the eight who showed up, there was no other possible choice for this team.

I didn’t know that and I’m glad that at least the obvious top potential World’s event finalists were all invited (or injured). Seems weird that Sam would walk away so quickly from his best chance to medal, he was there just like Eddie and Shane on the YT stream. Other than Gage, I guess I was expecting Colin to show up, his illnesses and injuries were always terribly timed.
And it’s shocking Brody didn’t do the AA where he would undoubtedly contend for a top 5 finish, possibly podium, but maybe he’ll be ready next month. I’m still confused why Akash only got on PH, he was robbed at Olympic Trials on that event and it possibly cost him a spot on the team, but it’s far from his best event and he’d easily have beaten Yul and Cameron if he’d stayed in the gym since then for the AA spot.

Mikulak is retired and had stated multiple times that Olympics was his last meet..
Briones, Gage, and Wiskus are all injured. Penev is out with injury as well.
Others were not invited based off the qualification point system at Nationals.
This is a strong team and every single athlete should make their respective event final and all 6 have a potential to win a medal. The US could win two medals on pommel horse for example.
It’s an excellent team, not sure that you really follow USAG men much, as this is the absolute strongest team they could have sent. Gage could have gone instead of Whittenburg for vault, but Whittenburg has stronger vaults when he hits.

Good to know so many were injured. Sadly Sam and Brody could have a shot at AA medals on top of HB, but it appears Sam is over it despite having only been 6 weeks since he was in competition and Brody I guess we’ll see if he does more than just HB. Sam was invited and did show up, why if he’s truly done?
It is a good team. Yul improved dramatically on day 2 than day 1; both scores are not competitive on the world stage, perhaps he’ll luck out on FX though. I watch every elite competition that US MAG participate in and could judge their routines if I felt like traveling, but I don’t follow them on social media. Anyway, thanks for the update on Gage.
