2023 World Championships | Men’s Qualifications Day 1 Live Blog

Welcome to the live blog for the first day of men’s qualifications at the 2023 World Championships, held in Antwerp, Belgium!

Please refresh your browser every few minutes to see the most recent updates, which will appear at the top of the page.

10:58 am. Okay, no, I have to leave like now hahaha. I’m so sorry. I’ll be on Twitter and will have a recap of the rest of this session and the fourth subdivision as soon as I get done.

10:54 am. Think we’re moving into the next rotation? And probably my last but I’ll try to follow what I can from the Uber lol.

10:51 am. Live scores are slow/down so sorry if you don’t see me posting any results.

10:49 am. Asher Hong USA VT: I only saw this in the background of the floor screen, couldn’t tell what it was (handspring or Kas from the looks of it) but the landing looked fine.

Abdulla Azimov UZB FX: Double double and 2.5 to front layout were both really strong. Great arabian double front half! Clean double full but a little wobble on the landing. Triple full, some ankles but another great FX for UZB!

Paul Juda USA VT: Yurchenko double pikem, small hop, great! 14.866

10:46 am. Robert Tvorogal LTU HB: Zou Li Min, Tak full, ugh, tries to make it too perfect and loses his form, goes the wrong way, and then the same thing happens on another pirouette a second later, but causes a fall this time. Sad. Hit everything after remounting, full-twisting double layout dismount clean with a hop back.

Khabibullo Ergashev UZB FX: Didn’t get to see as much of this as I would have liked but looked good from what I saw, 2.5 at the end with a little hop.

Asher Hong USA VT: Tsuk full-in, step OOB, I didn’t see it too clearly in the air but score looks decent if not great! 14.766

10:44 am. Abdulaziz Mirvaliev UZB FX: Nice piked double front, hop forward. Randi also good. Lovely layout side pass. Also hit a front double full to front layout and then a 2.5 at the end, great routine! 13.900

Khoi Young USA VT: Second vault is a Yurchenko half-on front double full, little stumble back there, but damn, okay! 14.366

Kacper Garnczarek POL HB: Got the layout Tkachev, then a straddle Tkachev. Clean full-twisting double layout. 12.833

10:43 am. Khoi Young USA VT: Handspring randi I believe, looked like he stepped OOB but again a huge and lovely vault! 14.800

10:42 am. Sebastian Gawronski POL HB: I caught it kind of at random times but he hit what I saw until the dismount, looked rough/low and seemed like his hands dropped to the mat. 11.600

Toma Modoianu ROU PH: 11.800

Utkirbek Juraev UZB FX: 12.200

10:41 am. Fred Richard USA VT: Beautiful Kas 1.5! Small hop forward but that was gorgeous. 14.533 (5.2, 9.333)

10:37 am. Moving into the third rotation!

USA goes 41.699 on rings, second highest after Great Britain once again! Uzbekistan 39.732 high bar, they had some really nice sets from what I saw but no massive scores, and Romania 39.933 on floor.

10:35 am. Robert Tvorogal LTU PB: Starts well with crisp handstands, tuck barani salto, great pirouette to handstand after, Tippelt with a Healy out and then a half turn, maybe a little short there, double front dismount, pushes too far forward on the landing and looked like his hands went down, UGH. 12.733

10:34 am. Andrei Muntean ROU FX: Piked double front, tiny hop forward. Double front, really clean! 2.5 to front layout, bent his knees in the latter. Double full, good. Front full to front tuck full, little bobble on that landing. Wraps up with a triple full, some ankle form and a little short with a step forward, but this was overall very nice. 13.633

10:33 am. Kacper Garnczarek POL PB: Saw most of this and he looked decent, double front dismount had a small hop forward. 11.866

10:32 am. Khabibullo Ergashev UZB HB: Caught the straddle Tkachev, had a nice finish on a Tak and on a front inbar stalder, Tak half, and dismounts with a full-twisting double layout, some leg form and a step. 13.233

10:30 am. Vedant Sawant AUS PH: Wasn’t watching the beginning but caught it about halfway through, legs got a little floppy near the end especially in the Russians but he went nicely into the dismount, overall should be a solid score if not massive. 14.400

Robert Burtanete ROU FX: Piked double front, hop forward. Hit the next pass and then an arabian double front with a big bounce forward. Double full, good. 2.5 to front layout, a little low/long. Solid triple full to finish. 13.300

Asher Hong USA SR: Inverted pike up to inverted cross, swinging slightly, saltos to planche, took him a second to reach the correct position, to maltese, kind of fell out of a handstand but was able to muscle up into it, and finishes with a double double layout dismount, maybe some leg form? Hop. 13.966

10:28 am. Fred Richard USA SR: Hit everything at the beginning nicely, then saltos through to straddle sit, presses out to planche to maltese kind of? It was kind of ambiguous for a second. Double double dismount, big hop back. 13.400

Valgard Reinhardsson ISL VT: Kas full, lands with his feet apart and a small hop. 14.033

10:27 am. Nicholas Tarca ROU FX: Hit the double double and 1.5 to front full well. 2.5 to front layout, some leg form in the latter. Layout side pass. Full-in, a bit messy there, big step back. Hit the last pass with a big step. 12.800

Clay Mason Stephens AUS PH: Hit routine but has a big 3 point ND. Total score is 8.833. (Edit, they went back and changed this to a 12.133, I assume all ND is gone and D is higher?)

10:25 am. Rasuljon Abdurakhimov UZB HB: Layout Tkachev, Tak, Tak half, stalder, full-twisting double layout with a couple of steps back. 13.266

Hillal Metidji ALG VT: Kas full, big hop back. 13.700

Yul Moldauer USA SR: Planche with a swing through to handstand, then a roll thorugh to iron cross. Saltos to iron cross, very nice there. IIRC no problem on the dismount? 14.000

10:24 pm. Paul Juda USA SR: Did good work from what I saw, wasn’t typing but only noticed minor form, full-twisting double layout dismount could’ve been higher but the landing was pretty solid. Overall a good start. 13.733

Adam Steele IRL VT: Kas 1.5, step forward. 14.366

James Hardy AUS PH: Didn’t pay attention, easy but hit routine. 12.000

Emilian Neagu ROU FX: Strong double front. Hit the next couple of passes. Triple full at the end with a small step. Good routine!

10:22 am. Touch for the second rotation!

10:21 am. The USA goes 42.366 on pommels even with that drama from Moldauer, which is the second highest pommels score after Great Britain! That’s kind of amazing.

Uzbekistan 39.833, Romania 38.198.

10:17 am. Khoi Young USA PH: Scissors to circles, moves well into the Busnari and then down into flairs, really nice there. Hips are SO high. Russians on the single pommel into circles again, slight pike, travels in Russians, then back to circles for going up and down the horse, back to Russians, so much variety and he does it all well, smooth into the dismount, just bends his hips a bit. Strong work! 15.066!!! That’s second for now!

Kacper Garnczarek POL VT: Really lovely Kas full! 14.100

10:14 am. Nicholas Tarca ROU HB: I haven’t even looked at high bar once yet, had a Kolman with wild legs but caught it, big Kovacs, reached for that one. Came off on something after, I missed what it was.

Rasuljon Abdurakhimov UZB PB: Had a fall unfortunately!

Fred Richard USA PH: Good beginning, moves into flairs with nice extension for the most part, he’s kinda going to the music which is awesome for his rhythm. Circles look pretty straight, and smooth into the dismount, good! 14.200!

10:13 am. Hillal Metidji ALG SR: Iron cross to inverted pike up to pike sit, presses to handstand, clean, giants to handstand could be tighter, double layout dismount was nice.

Sebastian Gawronski POL VT: I missed his first, he got a 13.800 (5.6 D). Second is a piked handspring double front, sits it sadly. I think he got a 0 for that one maybe? Looked like he landed it on his butt first.

10:11 am. Clay Mason Stephens AUS FX: Pike double front, small hop. Front full to double front, another tiny hop. Double double, chest down, big step there. Hit the 2.5 to punch and then double full, stuck. Think his last pass was an arabian double front, good routine. 13.833

Robert Burtanete ROU HB: 12.466

Yul Moldauer USA PH: Scissors to handstand, little adjustment. Moves well into circles and then flairs, which look great, back to circles, legs come apart right before the dismount, has to pause and really push himself up into it, gets there in the end but that got scary for a second. Great routine until that point but that’s rough. 12.666

10:10 am. Gytis Chasazyrovas LTU VT: Handspring double front, really deep landing, maybe a sit but close if not. 13.400

Adam Steele IRL SR: Hit routine, double double dismount had a hop back. 12.366

10:08 am. James Hardy AUS FX: Front full to double front, hop forward, piked double front, hit the next couple of passes, 2.5 to front layout, and finishes with a triple full, leg form and a hop to the side. 13.366

Asher Hong USA PH: Good flair work throughout the beginning, into circles on both handles, transitions well between handles and horse but bends his hips a bit, back to flairs where he could be a little higher with his hips sometimes, rushes into the dismount and misses the handstand but a solid hit to start them off. 13.100

Robert Tvorogal LTU VT: Kaz full, good landing, steps out of it. 13.400

10:04 am. This subdivision has…

Teams: Australia, Romania, United States, Uzbekistan
AA Individuals: Algeria, Ireland, Iceland, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden

10:00 am. I won’t have to leave until around 11:20 or so, so I think I’ll get to blog MOST of this session!!!

8:18 am. The next subdivision is at 4 pm local time which is 10 am my time, aka 1 hr 45 mins from now, and I unfortunately have personal life things today that happen to conflict with most of Sub 3 and all of Sub 4.

I’ll be checking in and posting when I can on Twitter, and when I’m freed from life I’ll come back and write up a recap of the subs that I missed. Tonight I’m on a redeye to Antwerp and will get to see the next couple of days in person, which should make blogging much easier than using 6 tiny browser screens!

Hashimoto two-per-country’ed out by a tenth, this is why we need Zhang Boheng here with him.

8:05 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN PH: Lots of back and forth in the scissor work at the beginning, moves into circles with some hip form that’s pretty noticeable, travels well, his legs just look a little floppy maybe? Cleans up into the flairs, some leg form into the dismount, not great but a hit! 13.266

Ilia Liubimov ISR FX: 13.633

8:04 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR SR: Mostly good on everything in the interior of the routine, but again it’s not a big routine. Small hop on the double double dismount. 12.866

8:00 am. Nicola Cuyle BEL VT: Dragulescu, messy in the twist and can’t get it around really, then lands off the podium lmao, he and his twin said “let’s give everyone a heart attack.” 13.000

Chiba Kenta JPN PH: Wasn’t paying close attention to this but it was a big hit! 14.700

Illia Kovtun UKR SR: Looked good for the bulk of this but nothing big. 13.133

Artem Dolgopyat ISR FX: Hit the first two passes and then a front double full to front layout, on his toes on that one. Double double good. Last pass was good. 15.100!

7:58 am. Kaya Kazuma JPN PH: Scissors to handstand, circle work with slightly closed hips throughout, wasn’t paying super close attention to the rest, but a hit routine. 14.066

Glen Cuyle BEL VT:  Didn’t see what he did but he went flying to the end of the mat, and almost off the podium.

Igor Radivilov UKR SR: Ugh, missed this, sorry, only a 13.966 which is surprising.

Uri Zeidel ISR FX: Step OOB on the double front, hit the next pass and then the arabian double front, step forward. Clean 1.5 to front full. Hit the last pass.

7:57 am. Luka van den Keybus BEL VT: Think he had a Shewfelt? I was watching in the background of vault, looked like a good landing. 14.400

7:55 am. Noah Kuavita BEL VT: Big handspring double front, great landing! 14.400

Sugimoto Kaito JPN PH: Moving well through his flairs, good routine to start them off! 13.333

Tin Srbic HB: Tak half to stalder Tkachev, straddle + piked Tkachevs, Kolman, a little low and messy, Tak full, a little late, full-twisting double layout, stuck. 14.433

Nazar Chepurnyi UKR SR: 12.966

7:54 am. Should move into the final rotation in a minute!

7:51 am. Japan with a 216.129, nearly 11 points ahead of Ukraine, Japan looks so ready for gold, currently on pace for a 259+ but we’ll see how pommels goes!

Ukraine had a little bit of a better time on pommels than on HB and FX but oof, I’m nervous. They could should get ahead of Brazil I think, but probably not Türkiye? Maybe Türkiye. We shall see.

Israel 202.896 and Belgium 202.794.

7:48 am. Shek Wai Hung HKG VT: AGAIN glanced at the screen as he was blocking off the table, something double back, gonna guess tsuk? I think that’s what he does? Stepped OOB on the landing. 14.633

Sits the handspring double front, LORD.

7:44 am. Minami Kazuki JPN FX: Double double half-out, hop but nice in the air. Front triple full, fabulous. 3.5 to front full, great. Wasn’t typing for the next two passes but he hit both well from what I saw and then lands the triple full with a stick, feet apart! 14.566 (6.2 D)

Illia Kovtun UKR PH: Again didn’t see that he started this, we need a bell, I’m catching 90% of every routine basically as they finish. Looked a little fatigued going into the dismount but gets through it. 14.366

Sebastian Sponevik NOR VT: Great handspring double front to start! 14.466 Kas 1.5 was directionally a bit off and he had to correct with a big step on the landing. 14.033, averages a 14.249, nice work from him.

7:40 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN FX: Triple double, slides his heel back. Double double, hop forward. Hit the side pass. Hit the triple full at the end, great work. 14.500

Nicola Cuyle BEL SR: 13.833

Oleg Verniaiev UKR PH: I missed most of this, everything at the end looked good but he only comes up with a 12.0, I hate this meet.

Alexander Myakinin ISR HB: Tak full, nice, Tak half. Cassina, Kolman, good on both! Piked Tkachev, Quast, stalder, and a full-twisting double layout, a little deep but stuck, this was fab! 13.700

Glen Cuyle BEL SR: 14.133!

7:39 am. Ilia Liubimov ISR HB: Layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev, big Kovacs, he looks good so far! Makes it through the rest well, full-twisting double layout with a small hop forward. 13.433

7:37 am. Kaya Kazuma JPN FX: Piked double front, gorgeous and stuck. Double double, hop back. Beautiful 2.5 to front layout. Leg form in the triple full wasn’t great but another big hit for Japan. 14.100

Radomyr Stelmakh UKR PH: I saw bits and pieces of this but it looked hit! Yes, 13.800!

Stefanos Tsolakidis GRE PB: Had a nice routine going but fell on the piked double back. 12.933

7:35 am. Audrys Nin Reyes DOM PB: Good routine, double front with a small hop back. 13.933

Ondrej Kalny CZE VT: He had a fall on his first vault and the score is taking ages to come in. Literally ages. 11.800, looks like something went wrong in general with this as he’s only given a 4.4 D, I didn’t see what happened, just that he had crashed. Second vault was a Shewfelt with a hop forward, 14.033.

Maxime Gentges BEL SR: Pike sit to planche, legs are too high compared to his hip angle but that was a smooth transition. A bit rough in the first handstand we see. Hit the dismount. 13.266

Uri Zeidel ISR HB: Piked Tkachev, German giants, hit the dismount. 13.233

7:34 am. Chiba Kenta JPN FX: think I jumped into this a second late but he nailed the piked double front and the pass after that. Front full to randi ended a bit short, clean stuck double full. Triple full had some ankle form. 13.900

7:31 am. Moving on to the fifth rotation! ALREADY? It’s going so fast.

Japan with a 172.963, more than eight points ahead of Ukraine with 164.597. Unreal. Israel 162.463, Belgium 161.562.

7:30 am. Artur Avetisyan ARM SR: 14.433, he ties his teammate Vahagn Davtyan! That’s cute, both in fourth.

7:26 am. Illia Kovtun UKR FX: Strong front full to double front. Piked double front, bent knees and sits it. LORD HAVE MERCY. Double full down the side. Triple full to finish.

Tseng Wei-Sheng TWN VT: Handspring double front for the first, not bad! 14.233

Could kind of see his second vault in the background of floor, looked like a tsuk full-in, he’s limping when he leaves the podium though. 13.933, averages a 14.083

7:24 am. Sugimoto Kaito JPN HB: Caught this from the three connected Tkachevs, inbar stalder, Tak, Endo, double double layout with a big hop back. 13.866

Noah Kuavita BEL PH: A bit clunky in some of his work, his feet make it the most noticeable, but makes it solidly through his set with no major issues, just lots of little things,

7:23 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR FX: Did he start with a 3.5 to front full?! I didn’t see the entry but looked like it. Got the landing on the double double and the next pass. 2.5 to front layout, really bent knees in the layout. Triple full to finish, good. 13.533

7:21 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN HB: Liukin, lovely Cassina, Kolman I think after that, layout Tkachev + straddle Tkachev, good, Tak full was a little rushed and finished late, Quast, and beautiful double double layout, small hop forward. 15.000

7:17 am. Maxime Gentges BEL PH: Scissors through to circles, I stopped typing after that but think he hit everything else though I looked at high bar for part of this. Maybe not fully hit? Idk, sorry lol. 12.700

Chiba Kenta JPN HB: Great on the Kolman and layout Tkachev, inbar stalder to blind change to front giant TO THE MOST PERFECT TAK FULL OH MY GODDDD. Quast, double double layout, chest down but stuck.

Radomyr Stelmakh UKR FX: I missed the beginning, hit the double front with a step forward OOB, a bit rough on the 2.5. Hit the rest. 13.233

Vinzenz Höck AUT SR: Pike to iron cross out to maltese, excellent. Everything else good but I missed the dismount. 14.600

7:16 am. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR FX: Sits his first pass, a double front out of a 1.5 I think? Double double. 2.5 to front layout, hop. Good double full. Triple full with a hop back. Shame about that first pass.

Nicola Cuyle BEL PH: Hit routine. 13.366

Vahagn Davtyan ARM SR: Great planche positions. Overall a great set, full-twisting double layout with a small hop, he’s so clean on basically everything. 14.433

Kaya Kazuma JPN HB: Kolman, some leg form but not bad, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev, Tak half to a nice finish, German giants, landing on the double double layout was iffy.

7:14 am. Moving on to the fourth rotation!

7:12 pm. Ukraine goes from three points ahead of Japan to nearly five points behind them all after one event. Japan now with 129.297 while Ukraine is at 124.698, Belgium 122.963, and Israel 121.698.

7:08 am. Radomyr Stelmakh UKR HB: Caught it from the Tak full, Tak half, some leg form, off on the Kovacs. Misses it a second time. Oof. Hit the rest after remounting. 10.933

7:05 am. Harutyun Merdinyan ARM PH: Good clearance over the horse on mostly everything, just little things throughout but overall very clean. 14.600

Sugimoto Kaito JPN PB: Wasn’t typing for any of this, but it was excellent! Japan looks phenomenal on this apparatus. 15.166!

Glen Cuyle BEL FX: Missed part of this/wasn’t typing but looked like a good routine! 13.733

Nikita Simonov AZE SR: Didn’t see this but a decent score for him, 14.600

7:04 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN PB: I wasn’t typing at the start but hit everything well, huge air on the straddle front salto, cleanly through the Bhavsar, fluid on the Tippelt, double front half with a hop back, good routine! 14.600

Ahmad Abu Al Soud JOR PH: NOOOOOOO I MISSED THIS, but he went 14.900 (6.4 D)!!!

7:01 am. Chiba Kenta JPN PB: Clean start, big straddle front salto and Bhavsar, Tippelt, took him like a hair of a second to get to handstand, slightly short on the half turn at the end, but sticks the dismount! 14.700

Illia Kovtun UKR HB: Looked over just as he was coming off on a release, I think a Kovacs element. UGHHHH. Back on and gets the Cassina but with WILD legs and has to swing around out of it before regrouping, though he calms down and casually connects three Tkachevs. Makes it through the circle work, this routine has been going on for one hour, double double layout, leg form and a hop. 11.800

Pavel Gulidov ISR VT: Hit the Kas 1.5. 14.200

Noah Kuavita BEL FX: Front double full, whip to full-in, step back. Step forward out of the 1.5 to front full. Hit the last pass, hit routine! 13.666

6:58 am. Kaya Kazuma JPN PB: Lovely work on the Makuts, handstand out was gorgeous. Very exact In most of his pirouettes and handstands, lost some knee form in the front salto, Bhavsar maybe a little low? Clean press on the Tippelt. Double front half dismount, good landing. 14.800

Maxime Gentges BEL FX: Strong double front, hit the next couple of passes. Leg form in the twists, especially noticeable on the last pass, not super difficult but done well enough. 13.233

Oleg Verniaiev UKR HB: Yamawaki was maybe a little low but got the Endo out of it , everything else looked hit, double double layout with a step back. 12.600

6:56 am. Luka van den Keybus BEL FX: Piked double front some knee form but a decent landing. Deep landing on the double front. Hit the last pass well. 13.933

Nazar Chepurnyi UKR HB: Wasn’t typing but this was a hit routine, small step back on the dismount.

Eleftherios Petrounias GRE SR: Again wasn’t typing but this was a stellar routine, should go easily into the final and confirm him as the leading Olympic spot contender! 14.900

Radomir Sliz CZE PH: Hit routine! 13.800

Ilia Liubimov ISR VT: Kas full, nice! 14.033

Uri Zeidel ISR VT: Hands down on the handspring double front. 12.966

6:55 am. Rotation three coming up soon!

Ukraine with a 43.533 on p-bars, they’re looking good to not count falls at least! They have three points on Japan at an 84.631 but Japan had to start on rings. Belgium at 81.631 and Israel at 79.065.

6:49 am. Matvei Petrov ALB PH: Everything going well throughout so far, nothing major, just loses leg form going into the Busnari which is a bit tentative but comes down nicely into the flair work. Muscles into the handstand for the dismount, overall a nice routine. 14.400

Illia Kovtun UKR PB: GORGEOUS routine, again wasn’t typing but everything I saw was lovely, small hop on the dismount IIRC but big hit for him. 15.233!

Neofytos Kyriakou CYP FX: Had some REALLY great tumbling in this, and really clean as well. Triple full to finish was very nice! 13.400

Glen Cuyle BEL HB: Hit routine, nice full-twisting double layout dismount, really floaty. 12.500 (3.7 D but 8.800 E!)

6:48 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN VT: Caught the landing on the Kas double full, looked like OOB but overall solid in the air. 14.366

Oleg Verniaiev UKR PB: This was going at the same time as Kuavita’s HB so I wasn’t typing but saw no major mistakes! 14.800

6:47 am. Noah Kuavita BEL HB: Caught the first release and the layout Kovacs, layout Tkachev, straddle to piked Tkachevs, blind change to front giant, Tak full almost to handstand, Zou Li Min, Tak half, legs come apart wildly and he falls backwards the wrong way out of the handstand. NOOOOO. Stalder, triple pike back, CASUAL, a big step forward out of a low-ish landing. 13.033

6:45 am. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR PB: I missed this but it looked like drama. 11.600

Chiba Kenta JPN VT: Kas 1.5, deep landing, big step forward to steady it. 14.333

Pavel Gulidov ISR SR: Caught it at the very end where he had a massive stumble/nearly a fall out of the dismount.

6:42 am. Maxime Gentges BEL HB: Kovacs was good, Tak half, straddle Tkachev, Tak, inbar stalder, hit the dismont. I think he had a fall at the start of his routine that I missed because I heard the crowd say OHHHHHH in a sad way lol. I must have caught after the remount. 12.033

Minami Kazuki JPN VT: I missed his first vault, WHY DOES IT START SO FAST, literally saw him salute but he went 14.033 so I’m guessing it wasn’t great but not a fall? Second vault I missed the entry…Kas 1.5 maybe? Gorgeous in the air and looked stuck, maybe moved a hair after landing? 14.700 and averages a 14.366.

Radomyr Stelmakh UKR PB: 13.500

Filip Ude CRO PH: Tried to get this but missed it. 13.133

6:40 am. Rhys McClenaghan IRL PH: Wasn’t typing but he was ON, definitely some of this better work this season. The only real loss of form came at the very end on the transition into the dismount, but this was otherwise beautiful! 14.933

6:38 am. Trying to get a good mix of everyone but rings will always be the event I ignore unless there’s like, a major specialist. I’m tracking the specialists on each event and will try to get all of the top contenders but sadly it’s impossible to get everyone!

6:35 am. Moving on to the second rotation!

6:33 am. Ukraine with a big 44.065 on vault, the highest by nearly a point on that event so far! Belgium’s 42.865 on p-bars is also pretty impressive, and Japan pulls in a 41.666 for its weak spot on rings! Israel also pretty solid on pommels with a 40.766.

6:30 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN SR: I completely missed all of this I think? Yeah, score just came up, 13.700. I’ll get the next one!

Chiba Kenta JPN SR: Inverted hang to maltese, rolls through to iron cross, got a little swayed in his back giant to handstand, saltos to iron cross was fluid. Stuck the double double!

Nicola Cuyle BEL PB: What I saw of this was good, big full-in dismount. 14.166

Igor Radivilov UKR VT: First vault went 14.833! Second is a tsuk double pike, step back. 14.700, average is a 14.766 which is currently second!

6:28 am. Noah Kuavita BEL PB: Good start, strong Tippelt, gets to handstand really well, lost some form on a HUGE salto half, double back to arms was massive, front straddle salto, hit the rest! 14.333

Nazar Chepurnyi UKR VT: Dragulescu, a bit deep for him, bounces back. 14.500

Ilia Liubimov ISR PH: 13.900

6:26 am. Dominick Cunningham FX: Double double half-out, good! Piked double front, some soft knees but a good landing. Double double, small step back. Hit the next pass and then a 1.5 to front double full, step forward OOB. Triple full, a little wild in the air, big step back. 13.700

Sugimoto Kaito JPN SR: Coming in as the alternate and doing a good job so far! Just little things throughout, double double dismount a little low with a wobble. 13.766

Nazar Chepurnyi UKR VT: Hit the first vault, didn’t see the entry but looked massive off the table, good landing. 14.966

Luka van den Keybus BEL PB: I missed this but from the sound of the crowd (and now the score!) it seems like a hit! 14.366

6:25 am. Oleg Verniaiev UKR VT: Dragulescu, deep landing, looks like his knees touched before he bounced back up out of it.

Kaya Kazuma JPN SR: 14.200

6:22 am. Illia Kovtun UKR VT: I missed this but think it was a good Kas 1.5 based on the score? 14.266

Guilherme Campos POR FX: Randi to start. Big 2.5, just some form in his twists generally. Front double full to front layout. Triple full at the end a bit short.

Marios Georgiou CYP HB: Tak, Tak full, nice ish finish though not to handstand, big Cassina, Kolman to Kovacs, OH, goes too far over and misses the bar completely. That was a bummer. Hit the rest after re-mounting.

Maxime Gentges BEL PB: Everything I saw at the beginning was good. Came up short on the quarter turn to single rail and then arched over when transitioning back. Hit the dismount.

6:20 am. Individuals on FX, Israel on PH, Japan on SR, Ukraine on VT, Belgium on PB, and individuals on HB!

5:55 am. Elias Koski FIN FX: Looked like he was down on the arabian double front half-out at the start. Double full. Rudi. Layout full down the side. Hit the last pass.

5:53 am. Ferhat Arican TUR HB: Yamawaki, Endo, Tak half, stalder, hop full, full-twisting double layout with a hop back. Not a huge routine but a nice safety net to have at the end of the lineup. 12.733

5:52 am. Artur Davtyan ARM FX: Front layout to front double full, some form throughout. Hit the next pass. Arabian double front half-out, little hop back. 13.233

Milad Karimi KAZ SR: 12.166

Ahmet Önder TUR HB: I missed this! 13.600

5:50 am. Max Whitlock GBR PH: Starts out well, flexed feet throughout but nothing new, transition from Russians between the handles to the circles on the handles went very well, Busnari into flairs, more Russians down the horse and at the end, pikes his hips and bends his knees slightly going into the dismount, but he gets there without issue! Big routine. 15.266!

Yuri Guimarães BRA VT: Excellent on the Kas 1.5! Hop forward. 14.400

5:48 am. Adem Asil TUR HB: I caught it from the Tak half, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev, stalder, full-twisting double layout, a little deep with a hop back. 13.366

Diogo Soares BRA VT: Think he did a Kas full, I mostly just saw him come in for the landing, tiny step back. 14.033

5:47 am. Jake Jarman GBR PH: Scissors to handstand, good. Russians between the handles, loses slight form, not the tightest routine throughout but he moves pretty well and stays in rhythm, no major issues! 13.900

Patrick Sampaio BRA VT: Strong and clean Kas full, little hop. 13.866

5:46 am. Emre Dodanli TUR HB: Gets the Kolman and Kovacs, straddle Tkachev, piked Tkachev, Rybalko a bit horizontal, and a flared double double layout dismount with a hop, oh they NEED him for high bar and he delivered. 13.533

5:45 am. James Hall GBR PH: I missed the beginning but looks like he’s been moving pretty well throughout? Little ankle form separations and soe piked hips at times but not all the time. Good transition into the dismount, solid hit. 14.033

5:43 am. Moving into the final rotation! This has been dramatic.

Great Britain extends the lead ahead of Türkiye, 210.994 to 207.193. TUR going to HB has me in a panic.

Kazakhstan with a 204.363 and Brazil with a 202.162. They were really missing Caio Souza and Arthur Zanetti on rings today, they only went 39.499 there.

5:40 am. Ferhat Arican TUR PB: Messy legs in the first pirouette but makes it to a clean handstand, good in and out of the single rail transition, more messy legs on the next turn, adjustments, loses slight ankle form in the Makuts but it’s otherwise a good skill, half turn to Healy, and a double front half, stumbles it back and then flies into a back somersault off of the mat. LORD. 13.766

5:36 am. Ahmet Önder TUR PB: Front pike to handstand, clean, decent transition work between the bars in the first couple of elements, maybe some adjustments, but then when he goes into what I think was supposed to be the Makuts, he can’t make it to handstand on the single rail, loses his leg form and comes off. Ughhhh. Big straddle front salto, caught a little far forward though, moves well out of it, and dismounts with a double front half, basically stuck? 12.766

5:34 am. Adem Asil TUR PB: Good start with controlled pirouettes, Makuts was a little stuck in one position for a second but overall good. Legs fully apart in a full pirouette, big straddle front, double front dismount stuck! Great hit after the drama. 13.866

5:31 am. Türkiye gets another warm-up on p-bars, no idea what’s going on over there lol, why is it ALWAYS Türkiye with drama.

5:29 am. Courtney Tulloch GBR FX: Random arabian double front down the side to start. Front full to double front, low and sits it. He’s having…a day. Ooh, a split leg double layout kinda thing, I wasn’t paying close enough attention, was that intentional, we’ll never know. The rest was hit. 12.133

Nariman Kurbanov KAZ PH: I can’t believe he got here YESTERDAY. A nice hit from him but I’m afraid not in top form. Just looked fatigued, which…he 100% is. Oh no, just a 14.133, I doubt that will break into the finals unless there are LOTS of falls to come…

5:28 am. Diogo Soares BRA SR: Lost form in a handstand near the beginning, corrected before going into the saltos to pike sit, clean press to handstand, maybe shaky a little in his arms, front giant to handstand with some shake, back to handstand was better, full-twisting double layout, tentative on the landing, but a calm routine overall. 13.000

5:27 am. Some drama and “technical issues” on p-bars.

5:25 am. Patrick Sampaio BRA SR: Wasn’t typing but this was a lovely routine! 13.366

Milad Karimi KAZ PH: Ugh, had a fall. 12.200

Jake Jarman GBR FX: Missed the start of his first pass, saw he took a big step back. Triple double was stuck after! Double double, small bounce. A little bouncy on the pass after that, front double full landing could’ve been less rushed I think, 3.5 to finish was great! 14.366

5:24 am. Gagik Khachikyan ARM HB: Straddle Tkachev, nice, tucked double double dismount with a hop back.

5:22 am. Oskar Kirmes FIN HB: Zou Li Min, lovely Tak work, Kovacs, stalder, clean full-twisting double layout dismount, very nice routine! 13.033

Harry Hepworth GBR FX: I didn’t see his first pass, just the landing which was solid, into the corner. Piked double front after was strong. Front double full to double front, small hop back. 2.5 to front layout, good landing. Stuck the double double cold. Bounce back on the triple full. Great work. 14.500

Bernardo Miranda BRA SR: Didn’t see this. 11.500

5:20 am. Emre Dodanli TUR PB: Good work at the start, clean and confident. Arched a bit in one pirouette and walked his hands out of the subsequent one, mostly controlled work though, looked like he stuck the double pike dismount. 13.833

Diyas Toishybek KAZ PH: I missed this but great score! 13.833

5:19 am. James Hall GBR FX: Really close to stuck on the double double at the start. Arabian double front half-out, good. Front double full to front layout, small hop forward. 2.5 to front layout, step forward OOB. Randi with some form but nothing terrible. Hit the triple full with a step back.

Yuri Guimarães BRA SR: Wasn’t typing and missed the beginning, had a significant arch over on the back giant to handstand, and the front to handstand also wasn’t the best, but fought through before almost sticking the full-twisting double layout dismount.

5:18 am. Moving on to the fifth rotation!

5:15 am. Türkiye inches closer to Great Britain after a strong vault rotation, now only a little over two points back with GBR at a 168.162 and TUR at a 165.728.

Kazakhstan 163.964 and Brazil with a 162.663 after a fully hit but still very weak pommels.

5:12 am. Milad Karimi KAZ FX: Opened with a solid randi. Front full to piked double front, step forward. 2.5 to double front, solid. Double double, stuck with his chest forward. Double full. Front double full to tucked barani. Triple full, small step. 14.500!

5:11 am. Diogo Soares BRA PH: Clean work in and out of the Busnari, into flairs, lovely form there, travels in Russians, he looks so clean and confident, little push up into the handstand for the dismount, and he does it! Oh that was everything. 13.766

5:07 am. Jake Jarman GBR HB: Wasn’t typing but this was a big hit for him! Hop back on the double double layout dismount but everything I saw looked pretty solid. 13.966!

Ferhat Arican TUR VT: Saw him take a step to the side OOB, believe he did a Kas 1.5.

Dmitriy Patanin KAZ FX: Front full to double front was strong, think that was his second pass. Double double with a step forward. Clean double full down the side. Triple full with a step to the side at the end.

Patrick Sampaio BRA PH: Good work on the Busnari, flairs, lots of leg form when he transitions into the Russians, but holds it together, another hit routine! 11.966

5:06 am. Ilyas Azizov KAZ FX: Had a nice start to his set. Big stumble on the front double full. Some form in the 2.5 to front layout. Triple full, form throughout but hit.

Adem Asil TUR VT: UGH I missed it but saw the landing, looked like just a small step forward and he looks pumped.

5:03 am. Bernardo Miranda BRA PH: Wasn’t typing but a hit routine! 12.600

Ahmet Önder TUR VT: Kas 1.5, some leg form, he doesn’t look as clean as he has in the past in general, but only a tiny hop forward. 14.166

James Hall GBR HB: Cassina, leg form. Tak full was almost perfectly to handstand! Double double layout dismount with a step back.

5:02 am. Arthur Mariano BRA PH: Started them off with a nice hit! Low difficulty and form issues throughout but I guess still a high note. 11.800 lol oh lord have mercy

Emre Dodanli TUR VT: Solid Kas 1.5, 14.000

Max Whitlock GBR HB: Only saw the dismount, which had a pretty big stumble but believe he hit otherwise. 12.733

4:58 am. Moving to the fourth rotation! THIS IS GOING SO FAST, IT’S BEEN LESS THAN AN HOUR. I’m so stressed hahaha, it’s impossible to see everything but I’m trying!

Great Britain holds onto the lead, more than three points ahead of Brazil and nearly five points ahead of Türkiye after making up a lot of ground on p-bars. But both BRA and TUR have vault coming up. Though BRA also has pommels lol. But they’re doing much better than I thought so far!

4:55 am. Yuri Guimarães BRA FX: Hit the first pass, front double full to double front IIRC? Or could’ve been a back 2.5, I never see the entry. Front full to piked double front, big step forward OOB. Lovely random layout barani down the side. Clean double full. 2.5 at the end, some ankle form to get picky but a great landing. 14.100!

4:54 am. Courtney Tulloch GBR PB: Caught it on a short handstand before a tucked salto, looked like he fell down from a handstand onto his arms and had to adjust and cast back up again, does pretty fluid work otherwise but stumbles back a bit on the double pike dismount.

4:50 am. Artur Davtyan ARM VT: Stuck the Dragulescu COLD. Beautiful. 15.033

Jake Jarman GBR PB: Think this was a hit routine, I was in and out but didn’t see any falls.

Milad Karimi KAZ HB: Some leg form in the Cassina, Kovacs, I missed everything before that but didn’t see falls or anything. Makes it through the pirouettes well enough, small hop on the dismount. Also caught two connected Tkachevs IIRC. 14.600!!!

Adem Asil TUR SR: Back form in the inverted cross got a bit sketchy. The rest looked pretty good, I didn’t see the dismount.

Diogo Soares BRA FX: Double double, strong. 2.5 to front layout, came REALLY low out of the 2.5 and nearly sat the latter, maybe put his hand down? It was close.

4:48 am. Arthur Mariano BRA FX: Clean piked double front. Front double full to front tuck down to front support, love that. 2.5 to front full, clean. 13.966

Ahmet Önder TUR SR: Hit routine, deep landing and a hop on the dismount.

Artur Davtyan ARM VT: NOOOOO, I missed his first vault!!!! Oh wait, no, here it comes lol. I saw the score come up before he did it. Handspring randi, beautiful, small hop on the landing. 15.033

James Hall GBR PB: Clean front pike to handstand. Nice on basically every pirouette I’ve seen, had a slight adjustment on one before the straddle salto, good press from pike sit to handstand, deep double front with a hop. 14.466

4:45 am. Max Whitlock GBR PB: Big straddle salto. Had a couple of slight hand adjustments, but overall moving slow and steady. Clean double pike, chest down but feet barely move.

Diyas Toishybek KAZ HB: Off on a Kovacs element from what I could see.

Emre Dodanli TUR SR: Slightly short on a press to handstand. Ugh, that’s all I saw, rings is so slow and my eyes automatically move away lol. 12.666

Patrick Sampaio BRA FX: Full-twisting double tuck, good. Double front, small hop. Good 2.5 to front layout. Hit the rest that I saw! 13.600

Gagik Khachikyan ARM VT: Hit the first one IIRC. 13.333

4:44 am. Touch for the third rotation!

4:42 am. Great Britain still in the lead in the team running but only going 41.966 on vault when they could have been close to a 44 is rough. Türkiye after pommels is fourth out of the four going. Brazil with a pretty solid 41+ on both PB and HB! Nothing major from them yet, I think one fall in a PB they didn’t count?

4:38 am. Ferhat Arican TUR PH: Great work into and out of the Busnari. The rest had some form throughout but a hit routine, which they desperately needed. 13.600

Courtney Tulloch GBR VT: Didn’t see his second vault but he landed it basically in a ball, not sure if it was a fall from the angle we have, but his hands may have touched the mat, he was VERY low. 13.633, yeah, a fall. Well, at least Harry hit.

Sorry again about ignoring rings.

4:35 am. Santiago Mayol ARG FX: Hit the first couple of passes, front full to double front was nice, toe point! Full-in ended up really short with a little stumble. Small hop on the triple full at the end.

Adem Asil TUR PH: I think he had a fall halfway through, oof. 12.866

Courtney Tulloch GBR FX: Dragulescu, stumbles back and sits it. What the hell, it’s clearly too early for vault. 13.233

Dmitriy Patanin Kaz PB: Hit what I saw, small step back on the double front dismount.

Diogo Soares BRA HB: Good layout Tkachev, hit everything else I saw!

4:33 am. Milad Karimi KAZ PB: Clean throughout the beginning, big straddle salto, Bhavsar was nice, nice Healy near the end, he’s looking so exact on basically everything, small step out of the full-in dismount. 14.200

Jake Jarman GBR VT: Second vault is a Dragulescu, chest down but a great landing. Shame about his first run. 14.933

4:31 am. Van Vi Luong VIE FX: Good double front. Piked double front, small hop back. 2.5 to front layout, hop forward OOB.

Jake Jarman GBR VT: Oh no, I didn’t see what he did but when I looked over he was sitting on the mat!!!! 14.000 (6.0 D)

Arthur Mariano BRA HB: Full-twisting Jaeger I think was the first skill I saw, Yamawaki to Endo, had a big arch over while turning around to regular grip, connected three Tkachevs, full-twising double layout clean and almost stuck. 14.133

Ilyas Azizov KAZ PB: 11.500

Sorry, I’m just straight up not going to watch rings because there’s too much going on lol. I’ll check in when I can!

4:30 am. Ahmet Önder TUR PH: Lost leg form a few times on some skills, notably on the Russians, but a hit routine.

Harry Hepworth GBR VT: Second vault was a handspring randi IIRC? Good landing! 14.966

Bernardo Miranda BRA HB: Nice layout Tkachev, double double layout dismount was a bit deep, hop forward. 13.866

4:29 am. Ilyas Azizov KAZ PB: Saw this but wasn’t typing, hit routine.

Harry Hepworth GBR VT: Hit the Dragulescu, looked like a decent landing? 14.466

4:26 am. Diorges Escobar CUB FX: Hit the first pass. Hop on the arabian double front. Triple full was a bit of a mess and he lands short with a step.

Mehmet Ayberk Kosak TUR PH: Struggled a bit with his leg form at the beginning and while traveling in Russians. A scappy but hit routine. 11.300

Oskar Kirmes FIN SR: Significant arch on a handstand near the end. Full-in half-out dismount I think, good landing. 13.266

James Hall GBR VT: His score already up but he hasn’t even gone on the stream lol. Here we go. Kaz double full, looked like he put his hand down, omg. 13.500

Diyas Toishybek KAZ PB: 13.366

Patrick Sampaio BRA HB: Saw him hit releases at the beginning. Hit routine! 13.600

4:25 am. Touch should be wrapping up in a second!

4:23 am. Trying to get scores when I can but this is moving SO FAST and I’m missing them on the stream. Also being behind is annoying because a routine will still be happening on the screen and the score’s already up on the live scores lol.

Moving into rotation two!

4:20 am. Artur Davtyan ARM PH: Wasn’t typing and caught this a few seconds in but looked like a hit routine! 13.833

Diogo Soares BRA PB: Some leg form in a pirouette early on but nothing bad. Everything else looked good, hit routine! 14.233

Emre Dodanli TUR FX: Nice full-twisting double layout. Double double, good. Front layout to randi. 1.5 to front tuck full. Tiny hop after the 2.5 to front full. Triple full, small bounce back. Great routine! 14.166

Jake Jarman GBR SR: Wasn’t typing but this was a hit!

4:18 am. Courtney Tulloch GBR SR: Really nice work on everything at the start, he makes rings look fluid. Arched over on the back giant to handstand but quickly corrected. Full-twisting double layout, a bit short, step. 14.300

Santiago Mayol ARG HB: Layout Tkachev was a little low, straddle Tkachev, gets through his front giants well, hits the dismount.

4:16 am. Adem Asil TUR FX: Step forward on the front double pike, better landing on the double tuck. Double dobule with a slight hop. Step back on the arabian double front half-out. 13.800

Van Vi Luong VIE HB: Hit routine! Good landing on the dismount. 12.300

Bernardo Miranda BRA PB: It looked like he had a fall maybe? I thought I saw him remounting. Hit everything at the end, short on a half pirouette but got the dismount.

Gagik Khachikyan ARM PH: Slight leg separation while circling but his height above the horse on his Russians is awesome, great transition into the dismount, maybe a little rushed into the landing but everything I saw was good! 14.600

4:15 am. I keep missing vault and pommels!

James Hall GBR SR: Hit the salto series well and looks pretty clean in handstands, one had to be muscled a bit, but nothing severe, swinging on the last one before the dismount, double double, stuck with his chest down. 13.833

Milad Karimi KAZ VT: 14.566!

Patrick Sampaio BRA PB: 13.533

Oskar Kirmes FIN PH: 12.400

4:13 am. Ahmet Önder TUR FX: Front full to piked double front, leans forward into the landing.2.5 to front layout, great. Hop back on the double double. Stuck the full-in. Triple full, could have been tighter in the air but landed well.

Diorges Escobar CUB HB: Zou Li Min, nice layout Tkachev, straddle to piked Tkachevs, good landing on the dismount! 13.800

4:11 am. Based on how fasts results are coming in I think the streams are a little behind.

Arthur Mariano BRA PB: Tippelt looked good, rushed out of the next couple of pirouettes and had a significant arch over on one, calmed down after that, and had a lovely double pike, great landing, tiny bounce. 13.300

Ilyas Azizov KAZ VT: 13.400

Elias Koski FIN PH: 13.600

4:09 am. Okay they started way too fast for me, but here we go.

Mehmet Ayberk Kosak TUR FX: Front full to double front, stuck! Full-in for the next pass was good. 2.5 to front layout, great landing. Stuck the double full down the side. Triple full, some form in the air, but what a start!!! 13.666

Harry Hepworth GBR SR: Maltese to iron cross, swinging a little.  Muscled out of the saltos into the handstand but got there eventually. Swinging a lot in handstand. Small hop on the dismount. 14.366

Ivan Tikhonov AZE HB: Caught the Kolman with messy legs. Straddle Tkachev, I didn’t see the rest. 12.666

4:06 am. The touch warmups are underway!!!!!

Türkiye starts on floor, Finland and Armenia on pommels, Great Britain on rings, Kazakhstan on vault, Brazil on p-bars, and Azerbaijan, Cuba, Vietnam, and Argentina on high bar.

4:03 am. Athletes are marching out now! As a reminder, Subdivision 1 will include…

Teams: Brazil, Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Türkiye
AA Individuals: Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Finland, Vietnam

Just a note that I think I’m only going to be able to live blog the first two subdivisions today…I have to be somewhere at 12 pm ET so I might try to do what I can with subdivision 3, but we’ll see, since I’d have to leave like halfway through. I hate that there’s such a long break between subs 2-3!

I’m also covering from home today, and fly to Belgium TONIGHT to hopefully catch the last one or two MAG subdivisions in person in the morning, and then will be there for all of the WAG qualification subs.

3:57 am. Well, we did it. We woke up at 3:45 am, we have SIX browser tabs open to handle all six apparatus streams on AllGymnastics.TV, and we’re ready to live blog.

Introductions should happen within the next couple of minutes! A reminder that all information you need to follow is available in our coverage guide.

  1. I am so shocked Daiki got 2 per’d out, so with Zhang Boheng not here, we’re looking at a score of just 85 to possibly medal in the all around. There’s like 15 gymnasts realistically in the running for a medal now. The AA final is going to be so exciting!
