3:50 pm. Final Standings

1. Simone Biles, United States, 58.399
2. Rebeca Andrade, Brazil, 56.766
3. Shilese Jones, United States, 56.332
4. Qiu Qiyuan, China, 54.799
5. Alice D’Amato, Italy, 54.265
6. Eythora Thorsdottir, Netherlands, 54.098
7. Alice Kinsella, Great Britain, 54.032
8. Kaylia Nemour, Algeria, 53.966

3:45 pm. Simone Biles USA FX: Full-twisting double layout, lunge back. Front full through to double double, little slide back. Biles, tiny bounce forward. Oh my god, she tripped while running? I think was supposed to leap there. Double layout with a great landing. 14.533

3:43 pm. Alice D’Amato ITA UB: Hit routine from what I saw!

3:41 pm. Shilese Jones USA FX: Hit the first pass with a little bounce on the landing, got through the turn series well. Front full, came out of it kind of low and kind of slowed down in her roundoff bhs, but got the double tuck around, just a bit short/weaker than usual. Full-in, a bit short, step forward. 13.400

3:36 pm. Sorry, doing work stuff that inconveniently just came up but trying to get the big routines!

3:31 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA FX: Front layout full through to full-in, good landing! Full-twisting double layout with a hop back. LOVELY Memmel to stag ring jump, omg. Switch to tour jeté half. Double pike with a big bounce back OOB. 14.066

3:27 pm. I’m gonna have to take a time out for like 5 minutes maybe, I’m gonna scream. Brb.

3:26 pm. Lee Yunseo KOR UB: Saw this but wasn’t typing, it looked pretty good! 13.766

Naomi Visser NED VT: 13.133

3:21 pm. Flavia Saraiva BRA FX: Full-in, leg flies up on the landing but she quickly pulls it back under control. Double layout set is REALLY low and she lands fully on her knees. Hit the leap series after. Only does a layout for her last pass. 12.200

Kaylia Nemour ALG VT: Yurchenko full, not a ton of power and lands it a bit short. 12.766

Filipa Martins POR BB: 12.566

3:19 pm. Touch for the final rotation! If everyone hits floor the way they’re capable of, the kind of expected Biles-Andrade-Jones order will almost certainly happen. But it’s gymnastics, so…

3:16 pm. Rotation 3 Standings

1. Simone Biles USA 43.866
2. Shilese Jones USA 42.932
3. Rebeca Andrade BRA 42.700
4. Qiu Qiyuan CHN 41.599
5. Kaylia Nemour ALG 41.200
6. Alice Kinsella GBR 40.799
7. Eythora Thorsdottir NED 40.532
8. Flavia Saraiva BRA 40.499

3:15 pm. Qiu Qiyuan CHN FX: 13.166

3:12 pm. Shilese Jones USA BB: Switch leap mount to switch half, tiny adjustment. Standing arabian, a little low, slight check. Excellent split to straddle jumps! Bhs bhs layout, minor form but landed well. Clean side aerial. Dismounts with a double pike, excellent landing! 14.066

3:09 pm. Alice Kinsella GBR BB: Switch leap mount, stumble. Front aerial, break at the hips. Split jump to straddle jump, nice split! Side aerial loso loso, little check but pulls it in. Switch leap to switch half. Good double wolf turn. Back roll. 2.5 with a hop forward. Good work! 13.433

Sarah Voss GER UB: 10.900

3:07 pm. Morgane Osyssek FRA FX: Double double hop back, little wobble to control it as well. Front layout through to double tuck, hop back, and then a step out of that. Switch half. Full-in, better landing there, just a little slide back. Double pike, little hop forward. Popa. Switch leap through to hop L turn. Good! 13.133

3:05 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA BB: Switch leap mount, switch to switch half, big stumble, leg up. Bhs loso, clean. Front aerial to split ring jump. Switch ring, break at the hips, same on the side aerial. Full turn, slight check. Good jump series. Double pike, step back. 13.500

Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos FRA FX: 13.833

Eythora Thorsdottir NED UB: 13.433

3:04 pm. Georgia Godwin AUS VT: Tsuk 1.5 with a step to the side, some knee form in the air but a strong landing! 13.600

3:03 pm. Alice D’Amato ITA VT: Yurchenko double full, maybe a little low off the table but she still has a super solid landing. Just a bit deep. Some knee form in the air. 13.933

Kishi Rina JPN UB: 12.966

Ellie Black CAN BB: 12.933

2:59 pm. Naomi Visser NED FX: Whip to triple full to punch front, a bit cowboyed in the latter and she has to hop to the side to control it. Double L turn to double spin. Nice Memmel to illusion. Switch half. 2.5 to front tuck, large-ish hop forward. Switch ring to tour jeté half was very nice. Sticks the double tuck but had some slight leg separation in the air and her chest was pretty far down. 13.533

Ana Barbosu ROU VT: 13.366

Hatakeda Chiaki JPN UB: 13.166

2:58 pm. Flavia Saraiva BRA BB: They didn’t show this on the stream, but this score! Oh, here we go. Bhs mount to jump to Korbut, nice connections. Full turn, check. Bhs loso. Switch ring, check. Front aerial slow to split ring jump, check. Side somi, wobble, chest down. Switch to sissone. Double pike looked stuck. 14.033

2:55 pm. Pauline Schäfer GER VT: Handspring front tuck half with a bounce backwards. Think she meant to do a layout so not sure what happened but it didn’t look like a last-minute decision, it seemed planned. 12.733

Filipa Martins POR UB: 13.433

2:53 pm. Kaylia Nemour ALG FX: 1.5 through to triple full, hop to the side. Switch leap to tour jeté half. Arabian double front, chest forward but otherwise fine. Double tuck, a bit bounce on the landing, steps back out of it OOB. Switch full. 12.700

Alexa Moreno MEX UB: 12.966

Lee Yunseo KOR VT: Yurchenko full, not a ton of power at all, some soft form in her hips and knees, hop back. 12.733

2:52 pm. Ondine Achampong GBR VT: Yurchenko double full, mild form throughout in the air, tiny hop back. 14.133

Manila Esposito ITA FX: 13.100

2:50 pm Simone Biles USA BB: Stumble on the switch mount, but gets the switch to switch half to back pike. Triple wolf turn, minor bobble. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump. Bhs loso loso, flies through it and nails the landing. Side aerial is good. Full-in dismount with a hop back, great recovery after the mount! 14.433

2:47 pm. Touch for the third rotation!

2:43 pm. Rotation 2 Standings

1. Simone Biles USA 29.433
2. Rebeca Andrade BRA 29.200
3. Shilese Jones USA 28.866
4. Kaylia Nemour ALG 28.500
5. Qiu Qiyuan CHN 28.433
6. Alice Kinsella GBR 27.366
7. Eythora Thorsdottir NED 27.099
8. Manila Esposito ITA 27.032

2:40 pm. Alice Kinsella GBR UB: Toe half to piked Jaeger, slight leg separation, big Ricna to Pak, Maloney to Gienger, a little close with leg separation, toe full, a little late, to half-in double tuck, a bit low with a few steps back. 13.600

2:38 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA UB: Nice handstand before the Maloney to stalder full to piked Tkachev to clean Pak, clean van Leeuwen, blind change to piked Jaeger, toe full, some hip form, to full-in, stuck! Maybe a little college stick as she quickly steps into the salute. 14.500

2:36 pm. Alice D’Amato ITA FX: Strong double layout to start. Triple full, lands short, has a wild stumble, and then falls forward. Hit the front double full at the end. 12.500

Morgane Osyssek FRA BB: 13.366

2:35 pm. So far all of the outliers for the podium have had falls or large errors? I think Biles, Jones, and Andrade were the three most likely to medal and so far they’re the only ones who are safe after literally everyone else has had drama so far.

2:30 pm. Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos FRA BB: Front pike mount, nice. Bhs loso with a wobble. Switch leap slow to the switch half, didn’t look like it was quite at 180. Front aerial to split jump to back handspring, goes really crooked on the flip back but somehow wobbles through the rest of it and makes it without more than just the wobble. Gets the wolf turn around. Side aerial with a wobble, leg up. Sissone to pike jump, good. Double pike with a little step back. 13.466

Ana Barbosu ROU FX: 11.600

2:27 pm. Ellie Black CAN UB: Short handstand before the Maloney to Hindorff. Went for the Black, but she was a bit low going into it, which caused some leg separation, and she couldn’t get the turn quickly enough to get her hands around the bar, hard fall. UGH. Back on for the piked Jaeger, good handstand before the Pak, solid van Leeuwen, blind full, and she’s a bit low on the toe front layout half, making her a little short on the landing with a bounce. 12.133

Eythora Thorsdottir NED VT: Yurchenko double full, not super powerful off the table or anything but she had a really nice landing! 13.833

Naomi Visser NED BB: 12.200

2:25 pm. Pauline Schäfer GER FX: Double front, really cowboyed, hop forward. Tour jeté half, little adjustment on the landing but lovely in the air. Kind of lost herself in the air on what was supposed to be a front double full, just fully came apart about halfway through the twists and face-planted. Does a double L turn right into a pirouette (in the way where she’s still spinning between the two positions) which is very cool, hit the 1.5 I think it was at the end, and then stumbled around I believe a triple turn? 10.700

Kishi Rina JPN VT: Yurchenko double full, some form in the air, chest down, hop to the side. 13.800

2:22 pm. Kaylia Nemour ALG BB: Layout stepout mount, good landing. Bhs loso loso, beautiful flight! Switch leap to split jump to Korbut is very nice. Switch half, little adjustment. Front aerial. Moving so confidently so far, nice flourish out of the full turn, side aerial is lovely, 2.5 dismount, comes up a little short and has to stumble it back. That dismount was really the only weak link in this set. 13.300

Hatakeda Chiaki JPN VT: Yurchenko 1.5, form is really soft in the air, and she has a large hop to the side OOB. 12.966

Lee Yunseo KOR FX: 12.900

2:20 pm. Flavia Saraiva BRA UB: Toe full to really low piked Tkachev, fall. Back on for a Pak, toe-on to Maloney to Gienger, SO close to the bar I have no idea how she didn’t smash her face on it, blind change to front giant to double front, step back. 12.633

Manila Esposito ITA BB: Ughhhh, looks like a fall or mistakes based on the score. Getting a replay now. The opening series was maybe not as clean as it usually is? Little step back on the jump series to back handspring. Clean side aerial. Stumbled back and sat the double pike. So that’s what went wrong, sad after such an otherwise good routine! 12.866

2:19 pm. Filipa Martins POR VT: Yurchenko full, really nice flight off the table but she rushes it in the air a bit and ends up with a big slide back into a lunge, OOB. 12.866

Ondine Achampong GBR FX: 12.700

2:17 pm. Simone Biles USA UB: Weiler half to Maloney (leg separation) to blind full, nice, piked Tkachev to Pak is strong, van Leeuwen, minor leg form, maybe a little low, toe full right to handstand, to full-in with a hop. Good! 14.333

2:16 pm. Alexa Moreno MEX VT: Handspring rudi, ends up a bit low and deep on the landing, big step forward to save from a fall. 13.966

2:14 pm. Shilese Jones USA UB: Stalder full to Chow to Tkachev, nice. Toe full, a little late, to Downie to Pak, van Leeuwen with the most minor of leg separation, blind change to front giant to double front, the usual cowboy with a little hop back. 14.633

Sarah Voss GER VT: 13.400

Georgia Godwin AUS FX: Had a leg-up bobbly landing on the double layout. 12.333

2:13 pm. Qiu Qiyuan CHN BB: Think she did a bhs to arabian? Awesome! Why don’t I remember that? Switch to switch half to Korbut. Front aerial to split ring jump to back handspring was nice. Side aerial with a slide back and then big break at the hips but she saves it. Straddle jump to stag ring jump. Switch ring, little adjustment. Full turn. 2.5 with some leg form and a hop to the side. Good fight in there! 13.733

2:06 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. Kaylia Nemour ALG 15.200
2. Simone Biles USA 15.100
3. Rebeca Andrade BRA 14.700
– Qiu Qiyuan CHN 14.700
5. Naomi Visser NED 14.266
6. Shilese Jones USA 14.233
7. Manila Esposito ITA 14.166
8. Ellie Black CAN 14.000

2:04 pm. Ana Barbosu ROU BB: Wasn’t typing at the beginning but she hit the front front series and then the mixed series into a Korbut, very nice! Wolf turn, think she did 2.5 rotations, looked nice. Sissone to full turn with a check. Hit the split jump half with a little bobble. 2.5 was very strong, great landing! 13.533

2:02 pm. Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos FRA UB: Chow to blind full, a little late, Nabieva with leg separation and a fall unfortunately. Back on for the Pak, Maloney to stalder half to Ezhova, short handstand before the van Leeuwen, slightly short on the handstand before the giants to the full-twisting double layout, slight pike down. 12.500

Kishi Rina JPN FX: 12.900

2:00 pm. Pauline Schäfer GER BB: Switch leap mount to switch leap to split ring leap, back leg could have been a bit cleaner maybe. But awesome series. Bhs loso with a slight check/break at the hips, corrects well. Switch ring, wobble there. Little hoppy choreo before the double spin, little check into the full spin, gets her Schäfer with a little bobble, front aerial to split jump to stag ring jump, maybe the tiniest check between the aerial and jumps, side aerial with a few steps back to control the landing, just showing some nerves today. Better to get it out now than in the beam final! Hit the gainer pike dismount. 13.566

1:59 pm. Rebeca Andrade BRA VT: Cheng, beautiful off the table, tries to flare it on the landing though ends up a bit short, chest down and a step to the side OOB. 14.700

1:57 pm. Naomi Visser NED UB: Ricna to mixed grip to Ezhova, stalder full to Chow to Pak, clean! Great handstand before the van Leeuwen, toe full was nice, to full-out with a little hop to the side. Very nice work. 14.266

Lee Yunseo KOR BB: 12.333

Hatakeda Chiaki JPN FX: 12.600

1:56 pm. Ellie Black CAN VT: Handspring front layout full, basically stuck! One foot moves slightly as she adjusts into the salute. Some hip form throughout is the most noticeable, but this was one of her best competition landings on this vault? 14.000!

Filipa Martins POR FX: 12.733

1:54 pm. Kaylia Nemour ALG UB: Nemour to a clean Pak to Maloney to stalder full to Ricna half to Ezhova to van Leeuwen oh my god I can’t even type as fast as she’s going, blind full to a little low ping off for the double layout, hop forward. Little things throughout but wow wow wow. 15.200!!

1:53 pm. Flavia Saraiva BRA VT: Yurchenko double full, some bent elbows on the table and the form coming off is a bit loose throughout, especially in terms of her knees. Decent enough on the landing, though. 13.833

Ondine Achampong GBR BB: Got through the mount nicely, front aerial to jump series was nice. Step after the bhs loso loso. I didn’t see the rest! 13.600

1:51 pm. Simone Biles USA VT: She put up the number for the Cheng, so guessing no Yurchenko double pike, which makes a lot of sense. Cheng, goes VERY well, MASSIVE and stuck!!! Or maybe has a little bounce on her toes in place. But her best of the season, easily. 15.100!

1:49 pm. Manila Esposito ITA UB: Lovely handstand before the Nabieva to Pak, Pak was a little low but she still caught with no issue. Maloney to Bhardwaj, some hip form in between the two, but mostly clean! Good on the van Leeuwen, blind full was maybe a little late, blind change to front giant to double front, slight leg separation and a hop forward. Looks relieved after! 14.166!

Alexa Moreno MEX FX: 12.233

1:48 pm. Shilese Jones USA VT: Absolutely MASSIVE Yurchenko double full, really nice in the air for the most part, just slightly soft knees, and a bounce back. 14.233

Georgia Godwin AUS BB: 12.266

1:46 pm. Qiu Qiyuan CHN UB: Got the front full pirouette to layout Jaeger and the next couple of skills, including the Downie and the Pak, not connected. Nice handstand before the van Leeuwen, which was clean. Stuck the full-in, which she even flared a bit. Lovely! 14.700

Sarah Voss GER FX: 13.333

1:44 pm. Alice Kinsella GBR VT: Yurchenko double full, some split legs going onto the table, lands with her chest a big forward and a big step back. 13.766

1:42 pm. Morgane Osyssek FRA UB: Toe full to Maloney to Pak, some leg separation, van Leeuwen with split legs, big straddle Jaeger, keeps her legs apart after catching, blind change to double front, I thought she came off a little low, but she got it around really well and stuck it! Just some leg separation in the air. 13.100

Alice D’Amato ITA BB: 13.166

1:41 pm. Eythora Thorsdottir NED FX: I missed the beginning of this because I’m working shhhh, but caught it from the double tuck, which she landed on her toes. Nice switch ring to tour jeté half. 2.5 to front pike was nice in the air, hop forward. 13.266

1:40 pm. Apparently, according to the BBC, Jess missing out is a “precautionary measure.”

1:39 pm. Touch warmup is underway!

1:35 pm. Some sad news as Jessica Gadirova has been replaced by teammate Alice Kinsella. I hope Jessica is okay!

1:31 pm. Athletes are about to be introduced!

  1. OMG they’ve got Alice Kinsella GBR in instead of Jessica Gadirova! The announcers said GBR said it was a precautionary measure… but didn’t mention injury at all.

    • I’m hoping they only did it so she can focus on the EFs, maybe not feeling 100% after the team final and it makes sense to focus more on where she had a better chance at medaling?

  2. Nemour’s bars is my favorite bars routine in SO SO SO LONG. I hope she nails it in finals and wins! Such a dynamic, amazing routine, that even non gymnatics watchers could see it and go WOW

      • I hope she does this as well. I haven’t really been on her bandwagon much yet because while her skills are amazing she often seems rushed and sloppy. So I figured this competition might not be it yet – Olympics certainly if she focused on form – but I wasn’t sure if she was there yet. But today she was so much better on the details. Still little things (like everyone) but it was just so much better.

    • With her score I was thinking it was gonna be perfect but then they showed it and there were multiple wobbles, amazing that she is finally getting the Pauline Schäfer treatment with her E scores for her skills being so nice despite wobbles! She deserves high scores for her form!

  3. Okay now I know Shilese always cowboys her dismount, but generally its shown at other angles, but this angle it showed today and the reply, HOLY COWBOY. giving Nastia vibes. Can the judges even see that from their angle? It wasn’t a amateur cowboy, it was a professional seasoned cowboy!

    • I guess it was more noticeable to me as well, because Flavia in the same bar rotations same dismount was so much prettier and tighter, as most of her basics are.

      • It’s a really poor choice of dismount for Shilese. She’s talented enough that I’m sure there are other dismounts she could do. Flavia’s dismount is much prettier and tighter because she’s much smaller. Shilese has long legs. It takes a lot longer for her to get into a tuck and back out so it’s easier to cowboy.
