After the conclusion of the Golden League competition this weekend, the Italian Gymnastics Federation has selected the team that will represent Italy at the World Championships in Nanning, China this October.
Vanessa Ferrari, the 23-year-old two-time Olympian who won the silver medal on floor at last year’s World Championships, will headline the team. This will mark Ferrari’s seventh World/Olympic Championships since winning the all-around gold at her senior debut in 2006.
The team will also include Giorgia Campana, Erika Fasana, Lavinia Marongiu, Elisa Meneghini, Lara Mori, and Martina Rizzelli.
Coach Enrico Casella has stated that Ferrari, Fasana, and Meneghini will compete in the all-around, Marongiu on beam, and Campana on bars and beam; all that’s left to consider is whether the alternate spot will go to Mori or Rizzelli.
It’s a very strong team, and one that should have no problems qualifying into the team final.
