The 2014 Northern European Championships concluded today in Greve, Denmark with event finals.
Annika Urvikko of Finland broke the Welsh domination in winning the vault title. Urvikko qualified into all four events, and in addition to vault, placed 4th on bars and 8th on beam, where she unfortunately had falls. She ended up not competing in the floor final, though it is unclear whether she was injured or just withdrawing to prevent problems. Urvikko, who won the silver all-around medal, is set to represent Finland at World Championships.
Latalia Bevan of Wales won the beam title while teammate Angel Romaeo won the titles on bars and floor. Romaeo was also expected to compete in the beam final but was swapped out for all-around champion Maisie Methuen, who unfortunately fell in the final yet won the silver on floor. In addition, Rebecca Moore won silver on bars and Emily Thomas placed 7th on vault.
Two ladies from Denmark made the home crowds proud, with Marie Skammelsen winning silver on vault and Michelle Lauritsen winning bronze on bars. Casey Jo Bell of Northern Ireland picked up two bronze medals, on vault and beam, and Norway’s Martine Skregelid rounds out the podiums with a silver on beam and bronze on floor.
