This year’s Bosphorus Tournament title belongs to local gymnast Demet Mutlu, who blew the competition away with a score of 53.366, taking the top scores on every event but vault. Her teammate Ekin Morova was the silver medalist with an even 50.0 while Bulgaria’s Ralitsa Mileva won bronze with a 48.5.

The competition is unique in that it draws the majority of its competitors from underrepresented regions, including the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. Two Swedish gymnasts also competed at the senior level, including Julia Rumbutis, who changed her national affiliation to Georgia this past spring. She competed just on beam in Istanbul, but with a full all-around set has the scores to qualify as an individual to the Olympics, which would make her the country’s first.

Also of note in the senior field were the Moroccan gymnasts Fatima Bazrhoud and Najwa Dassalm, both of whom showed great promise on vault.

In the junior session, Turdikhon Islomova of Uzbekistan came in a point ahead of Kazakhstan’s Olga Sanjiyeva for gold, besting her 50.599 to 49.534. The Turkish gymnast Iclal Ozbay squeaked in for bronze with a 59.134 over teammates Doga Özgöcmez and Beyza Türkmen, though Özgöcmez won the gold on floor with her 12.9 while Turkmen showed a tidy vault to post the high og 13.633 there.
