4:11 pm. Adams BB- Wolf turn is good enough, bhs loso, side somi, front aerial, all clean. 2.5 with a little hop.

McCusker gets a 14.4 on beam for a 56.0 AA and a 112.45 to finish nearly a point above Perea!

4:08 pm. McCusker BB- Good front aerial, nice and clean. Bhs loso loso is SOLID. Side aerial, back tuck, all very clean. Double tuck with a step. She’ll probably get second!

Maile O’Keefe gets a 14.3 on floor and a 58.0 AA to finish with a 115.05 total after an AWESOME weekend.

4:05 pm. O’Keefe FX- She’s gonna have to really mess this up to lose the gold. It’s not gonna happen. Big STUCK tucked full-in, SO confident. 1.5 through to 2.5 with a step into a scale arabesque. Great switch ring and end to her leap series. Double tuck is a little short with a hop, and she finishes with a double pike with a little hop. NATIONAL CHAMPION!

4:03 pm. Johnston VT- Missed her DTY but it got a 15.15!!! YAS. 54.65 AA today and a 108.85 total score. Good for her!

Campbell VT- Another DTY coming from her, HUGE and excellent with a bounce back. SO good.

4:01 pm. Flory FX- 2.5 + front tuck. Double tuck with a bounce. 1.5 + front layout. Double pike with a deep landing and a hop.

Hurd 14.3 on bars for a 54.35 AA and 109.75 total. Good comeback after her beam errors today.

3:59 pm. Thomas 13.8 on beam with her hands down?! Okay then. Get it girl. 56.2 AA for a 109.6 total. Letzsch 13.05 UB for 53.7 AA and 106.2 total. Tatum 10.4 BB for 51.6 AA and 106.05 total. Too bad about her mini beam disaster just now because she would’ve probably been in the top ten, easy.

3:57 pm. Hurd UB- HIT IT MORGAN. Huge Ray, GORGEOUS handstand into inbar full + Tkachev, toe-on + pak is clean, arches over handstand before Ray to high, inbar half + front giant half, and nails the double double dismount with a step back. Rotation is SO much better than it was day one!

3:56 pm. Thomas BB- One-armed bhs series is so controlled. Front aerial + jump series is lovely, side aerial, switch + switch half with a little stumble, double tuck is short, and she bounces forward and puts her hands down.

3:55 pm. Letzsch UB- Giant full, big and clean Tkachev, stalder + pak caught a little over the bar, short handstand before toe-on which is arched over but saved into the Ray to high, blind change with ankle sep to front giant half, full-in with a step.

3:52 pm. Joyner FX- Hit routine

Tatum BB- Solid bhs + loso, punch front with a little scoot forward, switch + back tuck is way off, feet slide off the side and she falls. Switch half. Double tuck to her knees.

Jones 12.4 BB for 54.25 AA and 109.25 total.

McCusker needs a 13.55 on beam to tie Perea and fight for silver. She had a 14.15 on day one.

3:50 pm. Jones BB- Off on her wolf turn. Standing back tuck, bhs loso with a check, switch + switch half, wolf jump + sissone, side aerial, fights for the stick on her double tuck.

13.8 for Perea on vault, and she finishes with a 56.1 AA today and an 111.6 total for two days. Arenas 12.7 BB for 54.45 AA and 106.8 total, Olivia’s AA is 52.6 today and 106.35 total, Machado 14.0 UB and 53.55 AA for 106.05 total, Shchennikova 14.05 for her DTY gets her to 51.65 AA and 105.85 total, Brusch 13.75 FX for 52.4 AA and 104.8 total.

3:49 pm. Perea VT- Hit clean FTY. Gonna be super tight between her and McCusker. She was two tenths behind going into the final rotation after McCusker’s score was changed.

Dunne 13.45 VT. Shchennikova 14.05 VT.

3:46 pm. Shchennikova VT- DTY, chest is bent in half and she’s off to the side, step back.

Brusch FX- Awesome piked full-in. Stuck. Hit second pass with a bounce. Good double tuck. Finishes with a solid double pike.

Riley McCusker’s bars went from a 12.9 to a 13.5. Obviously something to do with her dismount…guessing they didn’t credit it originally?

3:42 pm. After Seven Rotations

1. Maile O’Keefe 100.75
2. Riley McCusker 98.05

27. Deanne Soza 64.35
28. Kinsey Davis 63.6
29. Jaymes Marshall 62.55
30. Chae Campbell 62.35

3:40 pm. Esparza UB- Inbar full + stalder + Maloney + pak, messy on full pirouette on the bottom…SO surprised she didn’t break her rhythm tbh, Ray to high, big Jaeger, hit dismount.

3:37 pm. Perea turns Maile’s lead into 2.95 with her 13.7 on floor. Maile SO has this win, not to count chickens before they’re hatched or anything.

S. Lee UB- Toe-on + Maloney (leg sep) + stalder + bail (leg sep) + Ray, good start. Toe half with ankle sep + front giant + piked Jaeger, toe full + full-in is awesome.

Hit beam for Colbi Flory.

3:34 pm. Little VT- Good DTY!

Hurd VT- DTY, STUCK! Some form stuff in the air and rotation looks a tad short.

Thomas UB- Tkachev with bent elbows, pak is clean, van Leeuwen, double layout with a little hop.

3:32 pm. Perea FX- Good tucked full-in. 1.5 through to 2.5 with a short and deep landing, hops over. Nice triple full but again it’s a little short and her knees bend before they should, hop to the side. Double tuck with a little hop.

3:30 pm. Jones 13.0 on bars, Dunne 13.7 on floor.

3:26 pm. Dunne FX- I’m glad she’s getting so much air time! I love this routine. Big double layout with some leg sep a step back, foot goes OOB. Piked full-in is great. Double tuck with a bounce back. Stuck double pike.

Arenas 14.3 UB! That should help her out a little. Shchennikova 13.1 FX. Maile’s lead is now 3.3 points. DAYUM GIRL. Gabby Perea could likely close that a little if she can jump ahead of McCusker.

3:25 pm. Arenas UB- Inbar + Maloney + big and clean pak, toe-on + van Leeuwen with leg sep, low-ish Tkachev, toe full + blind change + front giant half, stuck double layout with legs apart during her flight. Great work!

3:23 pm. Shchennikova FX- I think we missed the first pass. Front double full with a step for the second. Double L + opposite Y turn, lovely. Gorgeous switch ring, then a switch half done nicely. 1.5 + front full with a little bounce forward. 2.5 with a step.

Adams 14.0 on bars, Brusch 11.9 BB.

3:21 pm. Adams UB- Blind change + HUGE Jaeger. Ricna, toe-on + pak is done well, short handstand before van Leeuwen which has flexed feet. Stalder full, and then a full-out with a hop.

McCusker 12.9 on bars so they must have given her the fall. Bowers 13.5 VT, Machado 13.2 VT

3:20 pm. Campbell FX- Huge double layout, small hop. AWESOME huge double tuck. Tiny bounce back. 1.5 + front full. Stuck front double full into a sissone, awesome final pass! YAS. So happy after her bars trouble.

14.9 for Maile!!!! YAAAAAAS. Blakely 13.65 VT, Hudson 13.25 VT, E. Lee 13.8 FX

3:18 pm. McCusker UB- Full pirouette, Maloney, lovely Ricna, another lovely skill with the pak, short handstand before super clean van Leeuwen, stalder + blind change + front giant into her awesome backwards arabian dismount which she lands quite low, knee didn’t look like it touched but it was definitely down.

3:17 pm. O’Keefe BB- Side aerial loso loso with a little wobble but pulls it back. Full turn. Switch + switch half, NAILS bhs + bhs + layout, gorgeous work. Front aerial + sissone + split jump. Switch ring. Nearly stuck double pike. DAYUM. She’s got this title.

3:14 pm. After Six Rotations

1. Maile O’Keefe 85.85
2. Riley McCusker 84.55
3. Gabby Perea 84.1
4. Shilese Jones 83.85

29. Jaymes Marshall 62.55
30. Chae Campbell 48.6

3:10 pm. Hurd BB- Close-up of this leo and it’s BRILLIANTTTT. SO GORGEOUS. Piked full-in with a hop. Front full + front double full is great, just a hop. Double pike with a hop. Love.

3:07 pm. Perea BB- Great standing full, layout series has a slight break at the hip and a small wobble. Switch ring is nice. Front aerial. Side somi. They should’ve been connected but both looked good on their own. 2.5 is off-line but hit well.

3:05 pm. Dunne BB- Nice flight series, switch ring, side aerial with a check, great double pike dismount.

3:04 pm. Joyner UB- Weiler half, Maloney + pak with leg sep, toe shoot, Hindorff, double layout with a hop. I love that Chris Burdette is spotting her! #TEAMWORK

3:01 pm. Arenas VT- DTY, very big, two big stumbles back.

Shchennikova BB- Actually a GORGEOUS 2.5 wolf turn with great control into another wolf turn. Oh my goodness, bhs loso, lands with her feet nowhere near where they should be, and she wraps her legs around the beam and swings it back up LOL. THAT SHOULD BE A SKILL, SERIOUSLY. Balance check on Onodi. Super cowboyed double tuck dismount.

2:57 pm. Adams 13.75 VT, sorry if I end up repeating some of these, I have no memory. Blakely 13.45 FX, Brusch 13.25 UB, Hudson 13.3 FX, Little 13.75 FX, E. Lee 13.8 BB.

2:54 pm. Machado FX- One of the best wolf turns EVERRRR to start. Double pike with a bounce back. A good 2.5. Finishes very well! Such a great meet for her so far!

O’Keefe has extended her lead to 1.3 points at this point, with her strongest event still to go! I want this SO BADLY.

2:52 pm. Hudson FX- Double pike to start, nice form. 1.5 + front full with a little hop. 2.5 with a hop. Great work from this new kid!

2:51 pm. Brusch UB- Ray is apparently huge but we didn’t see it. Huge double layout. I love that Ashley Priess is her coach here, no MLT who is probably only hanging around for Amelia at this point…I heard she’s retiring soon.

2:49 pm. Deanne Soza scratched floor. Looked like she was in tears as she walked away from it. 😦 Sometimes if you’re that mentally shot it’s better to just leave it alone. She wasn’t anywhere near the top ten and it wasn’t worth risking fighting and potentially getting injured if she continued to have a rough day.

Blakely FX- Double arabian, good landing. Front double full with a little stumble. 2.5 is lovely. Double tuck tiny bounce.

13.9 for O’Keefe on bars, Adams 13.75 VT

2:47 pm. O’Keefe UB- Chow + pak lovely + stalder + Maloney, all nicely done. Jaeger, toe-on + giant full + arabian dismount with a little hop. YAS MAILE.

Johnston 13.5 BB, S. Lee 13.35 VT, Esparza 13.85 VT, McCusker 14.0 VT, Flory 13.75 UB

2:46 pm. McCusker VT- Big clean nearly stuck FTY. Nice!

2:45 pm. Little FX- Omg this leo is ridiculous, I love it. Caught it from the double pike, 2.5 to finish into a scale probably to save the landing which is a thing that’s happening a lot and it’s kind of cheeky. Love it.

2:44 pm. Flory UB- Jaeger, bail + toe full + toe on + Ray, big double layout with a hop back.

Emma Malabuyo has a strained ligament near her knee.

2:41 pm. After Five Rotations

1. Maile O’Keefe 71.9
2. Riley McCusker 70.55
3. Gabby Perea 69.9
4. Shilese Jones 69.15
5. Shania Adams 68.75
6. Colbi Flory 68.05
7. Tori Tatum 67.95
8. Trinity Thomas 67.7
9. Morgan Hurd 67.5
10. Madeleine Johnston 67.0
— Sunisa Lee 67.0
12. Sloane Blakely 66.45
13. Alyona Shchennikova 66.0
14. Aria Brusch 65.9
15. Jordan Bowers 65.7
16. Cameron Machado 65.6
— Lauren Letzsch 65.6
18. Elena Arenas 65.5
— Olivia Dunne 65.5
20. Lilly Hudson 65.45
21. Frida Esparza 64.9
22. Deanne Soza 64.35
23. Lauren Little 64.3
24. Emily Lee 63.75
25. Jaylene Gilstrap 63.65
26. Kinsey Davis 63.6
27. Hannah Joyner 63.2
28. Adeline Kenlin 51.1
29. Jaymes Marshall 49.5
30. Chae Campbell 35.4

2:40 pm. Some more scores…Adams 14.1 FX, Shchennikova 11.8 UB, Brusch 13.5 VT, Machado 13.1 BB, Arenas 13.15 FX, Dunne 11.75 UB, Hudson 12.75 BB, E. Lee 12.05 UB, Jones 14.15 FX

2:39 pm. Jones FX- Hit her first pass and her double arabian + stag second pass. Double pike with a slight bounce back. STICKS double tuck perfectly with her chest STRAIGHT UP. YAS Shilese!

2:37 pm. Dunne UB- Let’s go Olivia! Maloney, lovely toe full + Tkachev, but she unfortunately is just a tiny bit too far away on the Tkachev and lands it on her feet. Toe half + front giant half, full-in dismount a little low with her chest down and a step.

2:36 pm. Arenas FX- 2.5 + front tuck is great. Double tuck skidded forward, couldn’t see if she put her hands down though.

2:34 pm. Shchennikova UB- Inbar full + Komova II + inbar + piked Tkachev looking exactly as it did on day one…too much distance, not enough height. She needs to take that extra swing between the inbar and Tkachev slash not connect them so she can have a prayer of hitting. It’s not worth the tenth if you’re gonna fall. Van Leeuwen, inbar half + front giant half, double layout is a bit slow and late…hop on the landing.

O’Keefe 14.85 VT, McCusker 14.1 FX

2:33 pm. Machado BB- Nice flight series, switch + back tuck, side aerial, standing back pike, sissone + split jump, double tuck with a hop.

Awww Morgan crashed her full-in dismount. A shame because it’s been so good!

2:31 pm. O’Keefe VT- BEAUTIFUL DTY. One of the only juniors who should be doing a DTY, honestly. No dab today. I wouldn’t be surprised if Martha Karolyi wasn’t thrilled about that on day one, hahaha.

Campbell UB- WOW, she’s back!!!! Glad she’s okay. Maloney + bail + toe half which was supposed to be a toe full but she gets stuck so she hops off. Toe shoot, clear hip with a nice handstand + Tkachev with flexed feet. Slow moving too. Sticks the double front this time. She’s like see? I CAN DO THIS.

2:29 pm. McCusker FX- This music reminds me of the Civil War. Tucked full-in stuck, fantastic! Hit her second pass. Double pike a little short but with another good landing. And hit her last pass well as well. Sorry I didn’t pay full attention to this one, I have other stuff going on but NOW I’m back.

Blakely 13.4 BB, Soza 11.65 BB

2:23 pm. Blakely BB- Leaps, front aerial + leap, her weird back tuck + back tuck series which is…I don’t get it?! Just an interesting combo but I don’t think it gets any CV. Oh, wait, C+C is 0.1, I always think a back tuck is a B. Okay, I get it. But still such a weird flight series. But if it works, GET IT GURL. Little wobbly on the latter. Side aerial with a wobble. Punch front + jump series. Switch side. Double tuck is good.

Esparza 12.65 FX, Little 12.45 BB, Davis 13.4 UB

2:19 pm. Soza BB- I’m so nervous for this. JUST KILL IT, DEANNE. Switch + back pike is great. Front aerial with a wobble, misses connection to jump series. Wobble and a fall on her side aerial. 😦 Punch front tuck + wolf jump, clean bhs + loso, just a slight adjustment on the landing. Full L turn + full pirouette with a wobble. Switch half with a little wobble but GREAT technique. And she sits the double pike. 😦

Hurd 12.1 on beam. 😦 Thomas 14.3 on FX though! 🙂 How’s that for some yin and yang. 12.8 for Johnston on UB, same as day one. 14.1 for Lee on FX! 11.45 for Gilstrap on UB.

2:18 pm. Davis UB- Hindorff, bail + toe full + toe-on + toe shoot, blind change + front giant half, full-in with a step back.

2:17 pm. S. Lee FX- This is an awesome routine. Double L to opposite full L turn to start, big and fantastic double layout! 2.5 very clean with a slight step. Beautiful work on her leaps. Lovely 1.5 + front full, then she shows off all of her gorgeous artistry and flexibility here, which is what she’s known for…check out her YouTube for all of her awesome stuff she’s trying on beam and floor. A little short on the double tuck to finish but this was a good one!

2:15 pm. Johnston UB- She had a GREAT day one, especially for a new kid. Giant full + giant half + piked Jaeger, lovely. Clear hip to an AWESOME handstand + pak, lovely again! Giant half + toe on + stalder + toe shoot, double pike dismount with a step back. One to watch for the future.

2:14 pm. Thomas FX- Double layout, and the took out the split jump connection after what happened on day one where she flew 900 feet into the air. 2.5 + double tuck with a bounce. Double pike with a big bounce back. FINALLY hit the triple full well! Just some ankle crossing. Her leo’s FANTASTIC.

14.4 for Perea on UB, 13.85 for Flory on VT, 13.5 for Tatum on FX, 13.1 for Letzsch on BB, 14.0 for Joyner on VT.

2:13 pm. Perea UB- Chow half, inbar half + Jaeger, toe full with a little hesitation halfway through, pak, van Leeuwen with slightly separated legs, clean double layout comes off a little early and takes a step forward.

2:10 pm. Letzsch BB- I love this girl’s artistry and I’m kind of OBSESSED With this leo. Front aerial + sheep jump is a slow connection, gorgeous bhs + loso, switch  + switch half is slow, and then into the back tuck is also slow. But SO clean and worth not risking the bobbles. Side aerial with a big wobble, straddle + sissone, full turn, 2.5 with Mustafina legs.

2:04 pm. March-in and the national anthem happening now. Just a few minutes until the junior competition begins! Maile O’Keefe is in the lead after the first day and has a half point over the rest of her competition as a solid lead, but Riley McCusker, Gabby Perea, Morgan Hurd, and Shilese Jones can all realistically make up ground. It’s gonna be a good one!

 1:59 pm. We’re beginning soon!

  1. One rotation is down to 5 gymnasts, wow. 2 (Johnson, Scanlon) out before the event, 1 out during Day 1 (Malabuyo) and now what happened to Kalyany Steele?
