We’re just now reaching the halfway point for the regular season in NCAA gymnastics which is insane and I don’t believe it.
To celebrate, there are a ton of excellent meets on Friday night. None are super close, but they could get close if there are mistakes. In the SEC, #3 Florida hosts #9 Georgia, #6 Alabama travels to #10 Kentucky, and #2 LSU travels to #23 Arkansas. Florida, Alabama, and LSU should be able to easily handle their opponents, but we’ve seen a few upsets this season like Arkansas defeating Alabama, so anything’s possible…but if everything goes right, it could get exciting.
#1 Oklahoma will face #16 Auburn as part of the Perfect 10 Challenge at the Bart and Nadia Invitational in Oklahoma City. The Sooners will take this one even with a couple of mistakes, though between the two teams, this is potentially one of the best bars match-ups in the country so keep your eyes out for the Tigers there.
Our other SEC team competing is #13 Missouri, which hosts a quad meet also featuring #14 George Washington, #25 Iowa State, and #53 Lindenwood. Missouri and GWU will be insanely close, with both teams capable of about the same score if they hit, so things will definitely heat up here.
Finally, #15 California will travel to #26 Arizona for a PAC 12 meetup. Cal is still getting their ducks in a row after the loss of Toni-Ann Williams to a season-ending injury, and the host team is still hungry for its first conference win of the season, so if we’re gonna get an upset, this could be it.
Saturday is Big Ten and PAC 12 day. #19 Nebraska at #28 Minnesota should be super fun, with the two teams sharing a nearly identical high score for the season, and with both also experiencing epic implosions as well. It’ll come down to who can go 20 for 20, but if both teams end up making that happen, it’s gonna be close.
Always a good meet is Penn State vs Ohio State. The #18 Buckeyes will travel to compete against the #32 Nittany Lions, and while the Buckeyes are clearly the stronger team this year, the Lions have been strong at home and have put on some really fantastic meets, so this one could be a nail-biter.
Also in the Big Ten, #7 Michigan will host #43 Michigan State, which should be an easy win for the Wolverines as they hope to improve on last weekend’s rough meet in Maryland.
On the west coast, #4 Utah will travel to #11 Oregon State, #5 UCLA hosts #29 Stanford, and #17 Washington hosts #49 Arizona State. UCLA will hope to improve on their hit rate, which has been good but not perfect, and I’m hoping that Elizabeth Price of Stanford will benefit from being at a school where the judging is a little more lenient. Utah, meanwhile, travels to a school where the judging is tougher, though they should be able to hold their own against the Beavers.
One of the best meets of the week will be #8 Boise State at #12 Denver. The Broncos had a phenomenal meet last weekend and were able to push into the top ten while Denver, once in the top ten, has been struggling recently, unable to field full lineups and counting scores far lower than their potential. With the two teams so close, this meet could cause the biggest lineup shift, and it’s looking to be a close-scoring meet as well.
All times listed are ET, the first team listed is the host team, and we’ll update any links as they are updated on each program’s schedule. Once the meet is finished, we’ll replace the links with results. Enjoy!
