In a tight race at this weekend’s GK Championships in Iceland, Agnes Suto of Gerpla managed to come in ahead of 2016 Olympian Irina Sazonova, winning the all-around with a 50.200 after hitting all four of her routines.

Suto was looking to be at her best, posting the top scores on vault and floor in addition to putting up the second-best on beam and the third-best on bars, one of the best overall performances I’ve seen from her. Sazonova, who competes for Armann, struggled on beam, giving up her lead there despite strong performances on her remaining events, but overall the two looked solid just weeks after returning from Euros.

Armann’s Dominiqua Belanyi, who also competed at Euros and is generally right up at the top with Suto and Sazonova in the all-around, competed just bars and beam here, getting the silver on bars with a solid performance though beam was her best event and brought in the best non-vault score of the day with a 12.95. These three make up a strong core for Team Iceland, which bodes well for them as they’ll go into the 2018 season with the goal of getting a full team to 2019 worlds.

Lilja Olafsdottir of Keflavik was third-all-around with a 47.850, and also posted the third-best score on floor with a 12.05, while Fjola Thorsteinsdottir was fourth with a 47.200, Katharina Johannsdottir was fifth with a 46.550, Thelma Adalsteinsdottir was sixth with a 45.400, Sigrun Sigurdardottir was seventh with a 45.200, and Tekla Thorarensen was eighth with a 44.000.

In the junior division, Sonja Olafsdottir of Gerpla won the all-around with a 48.416, followed by Margret Kristinsdottir of Björk with a 47.583 for silver, and Thelma Gudjonsdottir of Fylkir with a 46.283 for bronze. Kristinsdottir was hoping to take the win here, but she was held back by a rough performance on bars in addition to some mistakes on floor. She did have the best performance on beam, though, while Gudjonsdottir posted the top score on floor with a 12.733.

In addition to these, Vigdis Palmadottir of Björk, who competed all events but floor, had the best bars score with a 12.4 while also posting top-three scores on vault and floor.

Rounding out the top eight were Laufey Johannsdottir in fourth with a 45.883, Hanna Sigurdardottir in fifth with a 45.766, Tinna Teitsdottir in sixth with a 45.216 (and the best vault score of the day with a 12.766), Soley Gudmundsdottir in seventh with a 43.683, and Sunna Rikardsdottir in eighth with a 42.383.
