Has this meet always been called that? I am sure Islam needs all the solidarity it can get right now, but unless there’s a specific reason I’m a tiny bit confused about what it has to do with gymnastics?! Is it to encourage gymnasts from Islamic countries to participate? Or is it related to a specific political situation somewhere? Is it an organisation who sponsored the meet?
If it’s just a statement, what next, the Black Lives Matter American Cup?! Not being flippant, honestly, I am happy to endorse both causes, just a bit puzzled about the connection to gymnastics…

It’s not a gymnastics meet. The Islamic Solidarity Games are a multisport event bringing together the 56 countries that comprise the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation in the same way other multisport games bring together people who are linked by a common factor (multisport games exist for various occupations, languages, political allegiance, national origin, ethnicity, etc). No one gets all upset about the Caribbean Games or the Maccabiah Games or the Southeast Asian Games or the Mediterranean Games so I don’t know why people are bent out of shape about Islamic Games. Oh wait. Yeah I do.

Ah ok, thank you, it was a genuine question and ‘there is an organisation called that’ is fine! The commonwealth games would be another good example. I’ve just never heard of it and it just seemed weird out of context to specifically mention religion – geopolitical confederations I get, which I suppose this is, I’d just never heard of it. I’ve also never heard of the Maccabiah games, where/who is that?

Maccabiah Games are the Jewish multi sport Games
