    • Low difficulty skills and fewer than the required number of skills. If a gymnast just does, like, a toe shoot, a giant, and a layout bars dismount — which is something I’ve seen some ‘elites’ from super small programs do — then it’s like a few A skills equalling a 0.3 D score, plus whatever the E is, and then subtracted 6 points in ND because if you don’t compete 7-8 skills in a routine, you’re doing what’s called a ‘short exercise’. 5-6 elements get 4.0 ND, 3-4 elements get 6.0 ND, and 1-2 elements get 8.0 ND. The routine I made up above would get 6.0 ND for having 3 elements, so 0.3 D + let’s say 8.0 E = 8.3, and then subtract the 6.0 ND and you get a bars score of 2.3. Since this gymnast had less than a 1 for her score, she must have either performed a routine with only 1-2 elements to get 8.0 ND on top of low difficulty, or she performed a few more elements but had a really bad E score. That same routine I made up above with a 6.0 E score for a couple of falls would be 0.3 D + 6.0 E = 6.3, minus 6.0 ND for a 0.3 total score.
