    • Haha, it’s a simple explanation, but I can put it in the recap of nationals…and also just tell you now! She competed “as an individual” here and not as part of her team, which is why she wasn’t ranked. I’m not sure WHY they decided to have her compete individually, or why not competing for her team took her out of individual rankings, though. I’m trying to figure that out!

      • I originally thought maybe it was because they didn’t want another 2014 demoralizing situation if Larisa had come in and won everything by 2 points.

The team lost a whole generation of young seniors in 2014-15 when the powers that be ridiculed them and hailed Ponor as a returning savior.

No matter how good anyone is they can’t replace a team. When Munteanu and Iridon and Zarzu all retired, it created a huge hole.

I thought maybe they didn’t want that to happen, because they have some really talented young seniors. They should be trying to boost confidence in them

But side note- impressed with how Larisa looks at this stage in comeback, especially when you factor in the Covid !! Really hoping top 2 at spring Euros happens for her. She’s due for some good luck.

  1. Now that the Romanian Nationals happened, what do you think about the possible changes to the nominative team. I think I would take Iordache over Holbura. I would love to see how Larisa would do in Europeans. There isn’t an Individual All-Around this year, is there?

    • Thing is, Holbura is technically an all-arounder, but Duta cannot do vault (like a 0TY), and Trica cannot do Bars (4.3 and might not hit). Consider Romania must be aiming for the TF gold given they still eager to send a full team to the depleted Euros, they will probably choose an all-arounder.

  2. I think that Holbura will be going. She earned the Olympic spot, and I feel like they’d want to have her get as much experience as possible before Tokyo.

    • Yeah, I think they’ll probably bump either Trica or Duta. I feel like Trica, most likely…Holbura wasn’t great here, but since she’s going to Tokyo and can get a 50+ with a hit bars, they’ll probably still want to take her. I know they had an internal meet a couple of weeks ago, and they’re probably also basing the decision on how training has been going in general, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they took all six seniors to Turkey and just picked the five who compete right before lineups are due, honestly.

      • Yeah, there seemed to be some nerves all around. But I was impressed with a lot of the work from the Romanians. They can only get better from this competiton!

        • Agreed! Someone said they’ve only been back in training since the end of August, and a few of the clubs have had COVID outbreaks or scares, so that’s limited them a lot…I was really happy that Sfiringu and Stanciulescu looked so good despite not even being at 100%, and think Holbura, Trica, and Duta all have LOTS of room to grow based on what they did here. And Iordache looks miles beyond what my wildest expectations were for her! It seemed like nerves and just not being fully prepared due to breaks in training. But lots to be excited about.

        • Yes!!

I’m really hoping above all else that these bars can improve. There’s some nice lines and potential, but we’ve seen that before from Romania. Hopefully, for the sake of the federarion, this new group finds success in competition. Though there is a depleted field at Europeans, I can’t help but feel that (barring any injury) it’s Romania’s chance to gain momentum again on an international scale

  3. Romanian bars is still Romanian bars… Sfiringu gave us false hope with a hit routine with hugeeeee difficulty on day 1 (AA), but could not hit consistently and crashed on day 2 (EF)

  4. Barbosu is a very exciting athlete her lines on bars are really nice. Am I right I’m thinking that Barbosu is the athlete that has consistently beaten Voinea? Their both fabulous athletes., am I right in assuming that Barbosu is a year older and that’s why Voinea isn’t in this competition or listed on the junior European team?

    Like

    • Voinea has too much hype due to her insane difficulty, but her fundamentals are not even good and forms are slack. Even within the 07 batch, Amalia Puflea has much better form and quite ok difficulty, and consistently scores higher.

07s cannot go to this year’s junior euros so she’s not on the list. I believe Voinea and Popa (every else coached by Camila Voinea) are in quarantine right now so they did not compete in the nationals.

  5. I’m surprised at how much better the team looked on bars here! Inconsistency issues aside, I saw improvements in form, difficulty and fluidity in most of their top athletes. Very eager to see what Barbosu, Stanciulescu and Sfiringu can do for them in the future, especially once Voinea is put into the mix. Hopefully Romania can manage to keep them in one piece.

  6. The biggest positive I saw is that they really cleaned up their FX a lot, both in terms of form, landings, and better choreography. Stanciulescu and Sfiringu came into last year’s Junior Worlds with huge intended FX difficulty that were even higher than Listunova’s, but they scored nearly a point lower in Execution (7.6 vs 8.6)! I think this time they intentionally scaled down the tumbling difficulty but improved overall scoring potential significantly, especially Stanciulescu’s EF routine, what a pleasant routine to watch!

  7. What has happened to Denise Golgota? Is she not in contention for Europeans? Any chance for her to qualify to the Olympics next year? Was so disappointed with her qualification results last year. 😦

    • It hasn’t been announced yet but I haven’t seen any nominative roster updates. They’ll probably include her when they resubmit their nominative roster. They don’t tend to be very “announce-y” as a federation, so I wouldn’t expect a big article on their website or anything, though maybe they’d tell the national news.
