The U.S. elite gymnastics season officially begins tonight with the Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, where 2024 Olympic medalists Hezly Rivera and Fred Richard are set to kick off the next stages of their careers.
In addition to Rivera, who won a gold medal as part of the women’s team in Paris last summer, we’ll see Olympic alternate Tiana Sumanasekera and 2024 junior national champion Claire Pease making her senior debut, while the men’s field features Olympic alternate Patrick Hoopes along with top performers Riley Loos and Colt Walker.
Most of the athletes competing in Louisville will use the Winter Cup to advance to the next stage of elite competition, which includes national championships berths for the women, spots on the senior national team for the men, and international assignments for both, with International Gymnix, the DTB Pokal Team Challenge, and a number of world cups taking place over the next couple of months.
The competition begins today, February 21, with the senior men kicking things off at 6 pm ET. Tomorrow we’ll see the junior men as part of the Elite Team Cup at 1 pm followed by the senior women at 6 pm, while on Sunday the junior women compete at 9 am and the senior men will be back for a second round at 4:30 pm.
