BALANCE BEAM FINAL
9:20 am. Lia Monica Fontaine CAN BB: Layout stepout mount, wobble. Nails the bhs loso loso. Switch half to straddle jump to Korbut, minor adjustment on the latter. Side aerial. Double wolf turn. Double pike, chest down and a hop forward. 13.000 (5.4, 7.600)
9:17 am. Ruby Evans WAL BB: Hop on the punch front mount. Double wolf turn, switch to split jump to straddle jump, split positions could be slightly better. Switch half, little check. Very minor check on the bhs loso. Break at the hips on the double spin. Front aerial, wobble. Double full with a big hop back. 12.300 (5.0, 7.300)
AMANDA YAP IS GUARANTEED A MEDAL ON BEAM!!!
9:13 am. Breanna Scott AUS BB: Switch leap mount. Lovely roundoff layout! Side aerial. Front aerial. Double wolf turn. Switch leap to wolf jump. Strong punch front tuck. Double pike, chest horizontal, small step, but she crushed this! 13.933 (5.6, 8.333)
WOW! That score will be IMPOSSIBLE to beat.
9:10 am. Kate McDonald AUS BB: Wobbled on the side aerial and also unsteady on the acro series, smaller wobble on the front aerial, doesn’t connect to Korbut. Full wolf turn. Hit the jump series. 2.5 dismount, big hop forward. Says “I had funsies out there” after leaving the podium. 12.166 (4.8, 7.366)
9:08 am. Amanda Yap leads at the halfway point!!! Touch underway for the second half now.
9:04 am. Alia Leat ENG BB: Switch leap mount to split jump to straddle jump, great! Front aerial to switch ring to split ring jump, little wobble. Double wolf turn. Bhs loso loso, her line goes a bit crooked between the latter two and she slips off the side. Switch half. Wobbled randomly on choreo lol. Stuck the dismount. Oof, that fall is such a bummer, everything else looked good. 12.866 (6.0, 6.866)
9:01 am. Ellie Black CAN BB: Hit the leap mount sequence and then a double spin, minor landing adjustment. Great punch front. Bhs layout has a bit too much power I think and she grabs the beam, nooooo! Side somi. Hit the 2.5 dismount. 12.966 (5.4, 7.566)
8:56 am. Amanda Yap SGP BB: Lovely switch leap mount. Split half to split jump. Gorgeous switch ring. Perfect on the bhs back pike. Full turn. Front aerial. Doesn’t connect, but gets a lovely split jump to stag ring separately. Excellent punch front. Back layout 1.5 with a hop. 13.233 (5.0, 8.233)!
8:52 am. Philippa Busuttil MLT BB: Beautiful on the bhs mount to loso to bhs, yay! Gets the double wolf turn around. Back roll to handstand pretty much right to her leap series, gorg. Front aerial to split jump to bhs. Side aerial (slight check), good double full, step back! YES! 12.700 (5.3, 7.400)
Inquiry into her score gets her bumped to a 12.800 (5.4, 7.400).
8:50 am. Touch underway for the first half of beam.
8:45 am. Athletes should be introduced soon for the beam final!
MAG VAULT FINAL RANKINGS
1. Félix Dolci, Canada, 13.766
2. Luke Whitehouse, England, 13.749
3. Neofytos Kyriakou, Cyprus, 13.733
4. Muhammad Sharul Aimy, Malaysia, 13.733
5. James Hardy, Australia, 13.566
6. Clayton Bell, Jamaica, 12.916
7. Ewan McAteer, Northern Ireland, 12.750
8. Kyriakos Markidis, Cyprus, 12.649
MAG VAULT FINAL
8:34 am. Luke Whitehouse ENG VT: Not bad on his Dragulesu, quite a bit lower than I’d like to see him on the landing (knee bend, chest down, etc) but just a small bounce in place. 13.766 (5.2, 8.566)
Kas 1.5 is MUCH better. Just a bounce on the landing. 13.733 (4.8, 8.933)
13.749 average, he’s down in second by just 0.017, insane. First and fourth place separated by 0.033 and bronze being determined by a tie-break is CRAZY, I’m so gutted for Aimy, but can’t even be mad because Kyriakou was SO solid, and Dolci/Whitehouse have the difficulty boost. I’ll just be sad instead.
8:30 am. Muhammad Sharul Aimy MAS VT: Handspring double front, a bit cowboyed in the air, a little deep on the landing, medium hop forward. Solid enough for this final tbh! 13.633 (4.8, 8.833)
Next up is a Kas 1.5, nearly stuck!!! YAAAAAAAAAS. That was so good. 13.833 (4.8, 9.033)
13.733 average.
8:27 am. Kyriakos Markidis CYP VT: First vault is a Kas 1.5, some leg separation in pre-flight but REALLY nice legs form in the air! Big step forward OOB. 13.533 (4.8, 8.833, -0.1 ND)
Yurchenko double full, his block is WAY off and he has to fight to get that around, bends his knees to compensate but still ends up falling forward and putting his hands down sadly. 11.766 (4.4, 7.666, -0.3 ND)
12.649 average.
8:24 am. Ewan McAteer NIR VT: Kas 1.5, goes a bit too hard, that adrenaline ugh. Legs are a bit floppy throughout and the landing catches him by surprise, massive run forward out of it. 12.700 (4.8, 8.200, -0.3 ND)
Yurchenko double full, scales back his power on this one and unfortunately comes up a bit short, so the opposite problem. Similar form deductions in the air as the first, but not as noticeable or severe, chest at his knees and a step back on the landing. 12.800 (4.4, 8.500, -0.1 ND)
12.750 average.
8:22 am. Touch at the halfway point!
8:18 am. Félix Dolci CAN VT: Kas full with a small hop forward. SUPERB extension in the air, just crosses his ankles a bit. 13.900 (4.8, 9.100)
Dragulescu for vault two, not as tidy or controlled as he’s capable of but gets it to his feet easily regardless, chest down and a hop back OOB. 13.633 (5.2, 8.533, -0.1 ND)
13.766 average to just push ahead of Kyriakou.
8:15 am. Neofytos Kyriakou CYP VT: OH OKAY. STUCK THE KAS 1.5!!!! Really strong overall. 14.100 (4.8, 9.300)
Yurchenko double full, nice in the air, medium hop back. Height off the table could maybe be a little better but I think generally this is strong. 13.366 (4.4, 8.966)
13.733 average to move him into first.
8:11 am. James Hardy AUS VT: Big handspring double front, even overrotates it a bit! Great power. Really pushes his chest forward on the landing and has a big step forward/OOB as well, so that’ll hit him, but better than the alternative. Tuck form in the air is SO clean. 13.566 (4.8, 8.866, -0.1 ND)
Massive on the Kas 1.5 as well, another really big step forward but this was really nice overall. 13.566 (4.8, 8.766)
13.566 average.
8:07 am. Clayton Bell JAM VT: Lovely Kas full! His chest is a bit down on the landing, but it’s mostly lovely in the air, minor knee bend/separation, small hop back. 13.300 (4.4, 8.900)
Yurchenko double full, I didn’t see full details but had a bounce on the landing. 12.533 (4.4, 8.433, -0.3 ND)
12.916 average.
8:03 am. Touch for the first half of the competitors happening now.
8:00 am. Athletes are being introduced!
7:56 am. Broadcast has begun!
7:52 am. The broadcast should start in about three minutes, athlete introductions right at 8 am, and then the action probably around 8:05 am ish!
Today we start with the men on vault and move right to the beam final after that, then there will be two medal ceremonies. We kick back up again with the p-bars final at 9:50 am, then women on floor, and lastly the men on high bar. Live scores are here.
I have a meeting that I need to be focused for at 10:30 am which should be at the end of p-bars/beginning of floor so I may miss a few routines over 20 or so minutes but will do what I can to get everything.
This is my day job slash gymnastics job multitasking setup:
