The 2015 Welsh Championships in Cardiff marked the second championship meet in Great Britain this year, coming a week after the Scottish Championships in Perth.
2014 Commonwealth Games medalist Raer Theaker swept the titles in the senior divison, posting an all-around score of 50.982 and showing especially strong work on vault (14.166) and floor (13.1). The only other senior all-arounder, Rebecca Moore, swept the silver medals with a 48.65 total, while Angel Romaeo competed only on bars, getting an 11.3 there for bronze.
Senior gymnasts from outside of Wales competed in the open division; Theaker and Moore maintained their top all-around placements in this field, and were followed by Chelsea Court with a 45.199 and Lucy Prower with a 38.083. Two Park Wrekin gymnasts also competed on a couple of events, with Eshe Bernard posting a 13.366 for her clean vault and Georgina Clements earning an 11.966 to match Theaker for the best beam routine of the day. Lucy Brett competed on bars and beam, but notched scores in the 9s on both.
Maisie Methuen was the junior champion with a 50.416, also earning the gold medals on everything but bars. She had a 13.7 for her vault in addition to a 12.666 on beam and a 12.6 on floor, and her fall on bars got her to an 11.45 for silver there.
She was followed by Latalia Bevan with a 49.199 for silver and Holly Jones with a 49.1 for bronze. Bevan had the best bar routine with a 12.1, while Jones looked clean on vault (13.7) and floor (12.6) for silver medals on both of those events.
In addition, fourth-place Harriet Moore had the bronze medals on vault and beam while Hana Davies, sixth all-around, tied Moore on vault and also brought home bronze on floor.
The junior division welcomed English gymnasts Catherine Lyons and Phoebe Turner, with Lyons posting the biggest score of the day, totaling 54.132. She unfortunately fell on her new Shang release on bars, earning a 12.6 there, but otherwise was clean, bringing in a 14.166 for her lovely FTY as well as a 13.966 for her clean work on beam.
Turner had a 52.75 all-around, putting up scores of 13.8 on vault, 12.45 on bars, 13.5 on beam, and 13.0 on floor. Her teammate from The Academy, Abigail Solari, only had a 45.116 in the all-around competition after a disastrous bars routine, but she showed clean work on vault, hitting for a 13.733 there.
