Evgeniya Shelgunova came out on top on every event at the Volga District Championships in Russia this week.

The competition featured all gymnasts local to the federal district, which didn’t amount to tremendous depth, though there were still very strong showings from both Shelgunova and 2014 worlds alternate Polina Fedorova.

In the all-around, Shelgunova was first with a 58.65 after performing very well on all four events, aside from a slight mistake on her DTY vault. She managed to get about a point and a half above Fedorova, who won the silver medal with a 57.175 after an equally strong day, vault aside. In third was Olga Bikmurzina with a 52.938.

The meet included event finals, which Shelgunova swept. On vault, she averaged a 14.013 to finish above Daria Lopatina with a 13.8 and Ksenia Kolokolneva with a 13.475. On bars, she and Fedorova were engaged in a battle, though Shelgunova was best with a 14.825 to Fedorova’s 14.775 while Bikmurzina was third with a 13.25. On beam, Shelgunova won with a 14.4 for her complicated set, defeating Bikmurzina in second with a 13.55 and Fedorova in third, also with a 13.55 but with a lower execution score. On floor, it was again Shelgunova on top with a 14.425, while Bikmurzina was second with a 14.275 and Alexandra Pudovkina was third with a 13.625.

The Volga District Championships were held from March 5 through March 10 in Penza, Russia. Full results are available here.
