  1. How is it that someone got a 2.450?? I just don’t understand how someone could even get that- was there something weird that happened?

    • If a routine doesn’t have 7-8 skills, they face a penalty. I *believe* routines with 5-6 skills have a 0.2 penalty, routines with 3-4 skills have a 0.4 penalty, and routines with 1-2 skills have a 0.6 penalty. Normally what happens to get a score this low is that someone will either (a) get on, perform one or two skills, fall and get injured, and decide not to continue, or (b) they’re training the event, don’t have a full routine ready, but still want to throw out a half routine or a few skills in a competition setting. For a score like this, for example, someone could’ve had a D score of 1.3 and an E score of 7.15 to get an 8.45, and then the 6 point penalty for only having a couple of skills would take them down to 2.45.

  2. I wonder why it is that the British national team doesn’t really feature Scottish, Northern Irish or Welsh gymnasts? I can only think of Maisie Metheun. Is it because England has the larger population or more resources?

    • England tends to have stronger gymnasts. At British Champs in 2015, the top six in the junior division had three Welsh girls, two English girls, and one Scottish girl, so I was hoping we’d get more variety coming up, but so far the Welsh girls haven’t really stood out among the English girls and the Scottish girl retired. Maisie Methuen and Latalia Bevan both turn senior this year and have a shot at making some teams for GB, but for the most part it’s the English girls who end up going to the best gyms and excelling.
