The AA will be interesting! If Downie hits, gold is her’s but the other spots are up for grabs, so exciting! All the girls deserve it. I’m much more passionate about EF this time, I really want Cata and Larisa get rewarded with going 1-2 in BB because they just excell there! 😍

I wouldn’t say the gold is easily Downie’s even if she hits. Thorsdottir had a really off day, missing connections on floor, having a rough vault, and bars could’ve been better. I think if she does well on the other three events in addition to how she performed on beam, she could get up there. Had Eremina gotten a 13.65 on beam– a score she’s gotten (and surpassed) before– she would’ve beaten Downie. Not to mention the fact that she wasn’t as precise as she was in podium training elsewhere as well.

I agree that Larissa and Cata should earn it on the beam. Sanne and her routine don’t impress me and I think it is unfair with other beam workers with real high difficulty skills. Triple piruettes for gymnasts are hard but as a ballerina I would say tottaly trainable even for not elite athletes, and we use a smaller spot than a beam to do it. Puting in the same level of dificulty as skills that you need though conditioning and even risk your life, seems really unfair. Good that she can take advantage of that gap in the code and succed , nice that she is from a country that almost never win, but not everybody agrees it is fair. It is like soccer played only in the defense. While the code allows it, girls that cannot go to much further in the beam should seriously train it instead of crazy aerials that they could ever reach. Piruettes are totally trainable! Coaches should take advantage on this for their girls.

Why do the scores seem so low? is it just new code of points and people getting used to it or is everything devalued now?

There are several factors. It is mostly attributed to the fact theyve reduced the composition requirements from 2.5 to 2.0, taking out the d dismount requirement on bars and beam, as well as devaluing vaults between 3 to 5 tenths in order to keep it consistent with the other 3 events. The fact that there are new rules and a new COP is just starting to set in, as the gymnasts aren’t comfortable yet, so the lead up to worlds is going to involve a lot of experimenting among the gymnasts in terms of skills and connections to see which routines will give them the best boost I terms of difficulty, execution and consistency. Also, a large part field is composed of rather brand new seniors or olympians that haven’t been training high level routines for that long.

Hello! Could anyone give me a clue as to the standard of the floor scores here? I know there is the new code etc but would these still be considered low/good/average? I am finding it so hard to get a sense of how competitive these are and if we should expect them to rise as the quad develops? Thanks again!

They are quite low. By the old COP they would be in the low 14s. Ellis score in the mid- 14s. Just add an extra half point to every score, then you know the old standings. I’ve also heard, that the scores are generally lower at the beginning of a new quad because the judging is stricter

Where do you think Larisa Iordache would place in the AA?
