This weekend’s American Classic, held Friday and Saturday at the ranch, was the first of two qualifiers to U.S. national championships, and with all of the results in, we now have a list of those who have made it so far.

To get this out of the way before anyone asks, in addition to the American Classic and the U.S. Classic, there are a few other ways to qualify to nationals, so some gymnasts have already made it and don’t need the classic meets to earn their scores. These include those who:

• Were a member of the 2016 Olympic team (including alternates)
• Reached the qualification score at an international meet in 2017 (like the City of Jesolo Trophy or International Gymnix)
• Reached the qualification score at an official verification at the ranch

This article isn’t about those who have already pre-qualified; it’s about those who were at the American Classic this weekend specifically to earn those qualification scores, which are:

• Senior All-Around Score: 52.000
• Senior Three-Event Score: 39.750
• Senior Two-Event Score: 27.000
• Junior All-Around Score: 50.500

The senior division at the American Classic included a group of girls who had already earned spots at nationals via international scores or camp verification, but who wanted to use this meet to get some extra practice in. This group includes a couple who qualified at Jesolo (Abby Paulson and Trinity Thomas) as well as a couple who qualified at the ranch (Jordan Chiles and Margzetta Frazier), so we’re not including them in our “who qualified?” list because they had already qualified.

Got it? Great.

As for the rest, everyone there ended up getting to nationals, including all three all-around medalists — champion Elena Arenas, Leah Clapper, and Abigail Walker — as well as three-event gymnast Jade Carey, who competes every event but bars and won all three of her events with pretty awesome scores.

While Arenas and Clapper both exceeded the senior all-around qualification score of 52.000, Walker just missed it, earning a 51.700. But if you take away her low score on floor, her remaining three events meet the three-event score of 39.750 exactly. Because of this, she can only compete these three events at nationals, but she’ll have another shot at the U.S. Classic later this month to get that all-around score.

Carey, meanwhile, blew past the three-event score by over three points with a 42.800. With her strength on vault and floor, Carey has the potential to pull off a Kayla Williams-esque worlds team spot in her first year competing elite.

As for the juniors, 19 gymnasts earned their nationals scores, including all-around champion Leanne Wong of GAGE with a massive 54.500, silver medalist Anya Pilgrim of Hill’s with an equally fantastic 54.000, and bronze medalist Annie Beard of Texas Dreams with a 53.500.

Several gymnasts who were hoping to qualify here ended up not making it, including 12-year-old fan favorite 2016 Hopes Classic champion Konnor McClain. But no worries, because they’ll have another chance at the U.S. Classic in Hoffman Estates, Ill. on July 30.
