NCAA Week 3 Preview and Schedule

As always, the weekend kicks off with a bunch of SEC meets for Friday Night Heights, with Kentucky and Florida — both tied at No. 5 — my most anticipated. Florida has shown that it can once again be a national contender this year, but they’ve also showed some weaknesses and so facing a stronger-than-ever Kentucky at home won’t be an easy challenge as it may have been in the past.

Other SEC meets include No. 1 LSU hosting No. 9 Alabama, No. 10 Arkansas traveling to No. 24 Missouri, and No. 16 Auburn at No. 28 Georgia. Of these, I’m anxious to see if Georgia can keep up the momentum after a great meet on Monday, especially now that we should see them add depth on vault and bars, and I’m hoping for more beautiful routines from the breathtaking Razorbacks. And were LSU and Bama were once stronger rivals, I don’t think the Crimson Tide has a prayer of winning this one, but anything can happen.

Also on Friday is No. 2 Utah hosting No. 25 Oregon State, No. 3 Michigan at No. 21 Illinois, and former MRGC rivals No. 7 Denver and No. 8 Boise State facing off at a quad meet in Boise that will also include No. 43 Illinois-Chicago and No. 59 Seattle Pacific.

If Friday is about the south, then Saturday belongs to the west coast, with a few great Pac 12 rivalry meets coming to you tomorrow, including No. 13 Washington hosting No. 23 Cal, which is coming off of a weaker-than-expected start to the season and will hope to turn things around in Seattle. We’ll also see No. 4 UCLA try to build on an already solid foundation on the road at No. 17 Arizona, but my favorite meet will be watching underdogs No. 11 Arizona State at No. 20 Stanford, with both programs coming out of a rough 2017 looking renewed in spirit and ready to fight.

The still unranked Oklahoma comes back on Sunday for a second week three meet after a blowout win against Georgia on Monday. They’ll see action at home against conference rival No. 15 Iowa State as well as DII Texas Woman’s, and I’m also looking forward to seeing No. 18 West Virginia’s meet, hosting No. 27 George Washington and No. 34 Towson.

The full schedule is below. All times listed are ET, the first team listed is the host team, and we’ll update any links as they are updated on each program’s schedule. Once the meet is finished, we’ll add results. Enjoy!

  1. I just had a dream that Katelyn Ohashi did a floor routine so good that a 10 foot Michael Jackson robot erupted from the ground, and chased me around an arena that randomly appeared out of nowhere. I don’t know what happened to me or Ohashi’s robot but for some reason Ohashi’s MJ pursuit inspired Elena Eremina to cut ties with the Rodionenkos and commit to an NCAA school. I woke up before I figured out where she committed.
