11:34 am. Malabuyo USA FX- Excited to see this in its entirety since yesterday the feed cut out halfway through to show ads. Double double, short with a big step forward. Excellent double layout. Switch ring to tour jeté full. Front double full, wild on the landing with a big leap forward. Tucked full-in with a little bounce to the side. Insanely good routine even with the landing deductions today.

11:33 am. Heduit FRA UB- Inbar full (ankle sep) to Maloney to Ricna, great, Galante to Pak (really straight Pak), van Leeuwen with some ankle sep, blind change to Jaeger, double front dismount, great work, just cowboyed in the second flip.

11:30 am. Saraiva BRA FX- Huge stuck double layout!! Excellent. Switch full into the corner before some cutesy choreo into her second pass, a whip tou double tuck with a bounce back. Switch ring to tour jeté full, solid. 1.5 to front full with a little step. Double pike with a step out of bounds but the line judge wasn’t watching LOLOL. She didn’t raise the flag. Hilarious.

11:29 am. Belousova RUS UB- Toe on to Maloney to Pak, toe on to van Leeuwen with slight ankle sep, blind change to front giant to piked Jaeger, giant full, full-in with a small step, a slight leg sep in the tuck.

11:27 am. McCallum FX- Tucked full-in with a bounce and a step. Front layout to front double full to punch front, good work there. Triple full is mostly good, just some landing deductions, and then she finishes with a double tuck, pretty open with a hop back.

11:26 am. Villa ITA UB- Ricna to Pak to Maloney to stalder half to Ezhova, Chow to bail toe shoot, toe half to front giant full muscles it into a toe half, full-in with a little bounce. Mistake on that front giant full but she covered it up SUPER freaking well.

11:23 am. Melnikova RUS FX- Double L turn to double spin, OOOH, GREAT work on her full-twisting double layout!! Switch to switch ring half, nice, double layout with a bounce back, stays in-bounds but it was close! Front tuck through to double tuck little scoot and bounce on the landing. Memmel turn to full turn, Double pike stumbled back and sat OOB WHY GOD WHY. I literally yelped at that. It was so good to that point.

11:21 am. Klimenko RUS UB- Lovely stalder full to van Leeuwen, some leg sep on the latter, great handstand before toe half to piked Jaeger to Pak, HUGE piked Jaeger!! Maloney to Gienger is excellent, double front half-out stuck!!! DAMN. Chest just down a bit.

11:15 am. Carofiglio ITA FX- Front layout to clean front double front, solid landing, much better than yesterday. Dowell with a little hop forward. Popa. Switch ring to tour jeté full. 1.5 to punch front tuck, awkward on the 1.5. Cute hilarious ending with her pose.

11:13 am. Pontlevoy FRA UB- Inbar to inbar full, van Leeuwen, inbar half to piked Jaeger, holds handstand before Pak, leg sep and flexed feet, arched handstand after that before van Leeuwen, blind change with leg sep to double front, bends at the waist and steps forward.

11:12 am. Pedro BRA FX- Big double arabian, runs forward out of it a couple of steps. Memmel turn, decent landing, switch ring into the corner before her second pass, a 1.5 throughto double tuck, solid landing, just a little bobble. Split ring to switch half. 2.5 to punch front with a step back. Good double pike to finish. Great routine!

11:11 am. Iorio ITA UB- Ricna to Pak is great, arched handstand before Maloney to stalder half to Ezhova, van Leeuwen, blind change to L grip front giant to Endo to front full to double front, great landing.

11:07 am. Yin CHN UB- Blind change to Healy to Ling to piked Jaeger, Tkachev to Pak, a little low on both, toe on to toe shoot, high stuck full-in. Good for her.

Guo CHN FX- A little messy on her opening spin. 2.5 to punch front pike is okay. Double tuck, bounces forward with her hands down. Triple full, short, buckled knees, step to the side. Double full, knees also a bit crunched but better than the prior run.

11:05 am. Ivanus ROU FX- Semenova turn, awkward step out of it. Tucked full-in, solid enough, double pike, chest down with a step forward. Front tuck through to double full, pretty good, just some baby steps. Double tuck with her chest down and some steps.

11:03 am. Tatum USA UB- Arches over handstand slightly, toe full to Maloney to Pak, van Leeuwen, blind change to piked Jaeger, loooong and low double layout, step forward.

7. Lara Mori, Italy, 11.300
8. Anastasia Iliankova, Russia, 11.100

10:52 am. Malabuyo USA BB- Triple wolf turn, bhs loso loso is solid, punch front, straddle jump to Korbut, not connected out of the punch front. Big standing arabian, just a little bobble out of it, and a solid jump series out of it. Side split half is great, front aerial not connected to stag ring jump, wobbled after that and her back leg wasn’t quite good. Switch ring leap is a mess unfortunately, low and messy back leg. The weakest spot in that routine which is otherwise so great but the judges won’t love that skill. Great double pike dismount.

10:48 am. D’Amato ITA VT- DTY, huge and gorgeous, just a tiny bounce back. She’s the most powerful kid in this field by 900%. Lopez for her second vault, not quite as good, mostly because of the landing, just short with a step forward and probably OOB.

10:46 am. Smith USA BB- Double wolf turn is good, bhs layout is a little short and her feet are apart on the landing, standing full, chest down and a bobble, punch front tuck to straddle jump to split jump is a great series, side straddle half is good, side split half not quite at 180, front aerial is solid, double pike with a hop back, mostly an excellent routine.

10:44 am. Serber FRA VT- DTY, a little soft in the air, step on the landing. DTYs are out of a 5.4, not a 5.5 if you’re watching the stream. I think they’re confusing it with the U.S. bonus? Yurchenko 1.5, beautiful and stuck! Excellent work there, just bends her knees like, in the last half.

10:42 am. Iliankova RUS BB- Solid layout stepout mount. I’m so excited that she could possibly be a legit all-arounder again. Comes in WAY short on her front tuck and doesn’t get her feet around, fall. JUST AS I GOT MY HOPES UP. Hit the leap series after that. Tour jeté half is great. Side aerial loso with bent knees throughout and she’s again super short on that, sits it on the beam and then falls. Illusion turn. Good side somi. Lovely full Y turn. Stuck double tuck casually.

10:40 am. Villa ITA VT- Excellent DTY, solid landing. Suuuper high FTY, big bounce back, she’s like I HAVE TOO MUCH POWERRRRR.

10:38 am. Barbosa BRA BB- Layout stepout mount, nice, roundoff to layout to split jump to sissone, excellent. Switch side half, mostly good, full L turn, wanted to connect that it looked like, but she didn’t, side aerial with a wobble and her chest down, lands it a bit sideways as well, solid stuck punch front tuck, great wolf jump full, switch leap, back leg could be a little higher but still more or less at 180, double pike, looked like she wanted to fight for the stick but took a small step to the side. Great work.

10:37 am. Urazova RUS VT- Yurchenko 1.5 mostly lovely in the air and stuck COLD. Just the tiniest knee bend in the latter half of the twist but MY GOD. She’s like “hi I’m perfect.” FTY is almost stuck as well, DAMN. That one is cleaner in the air.

10:31 am. Mori ITA BB- Back handspring mount is nice. Bhs loso loso a little short and she pops off the end of the beam basically. She had bent elbows in her back handspring which def looked like it limited her amplitude throughout. Side somi with a wobble and chest down. Side split jump half, switch half, split jump to wolf jump, the first two leap elements were both short. Side aerial, short and landed sideways with a wobble, full Y turn, switch ring, back leg looked a little straight but she def got the split, triple full a hair short with some leg form.

10:29 am. Tatum USA VT- Really nice Yurchenko 1.5 to start. Clean FTY next but a large bounce back with a big lunge.

10:28 am. Ivanus ROU BB- switch leap mount right into a front aerial to split jump, excellent, bhs to back pike, good, switch leap to side aerial, split leap to switch half, not close to 180 and she misses her foot when she lands it and falls. Side somi is better, sissone to cat leap, full wolf turn, gainer double full with a big step back.

10:25 am. St-Pierre CAN VT- FTY, twists late, but good in the air, step on the landing. Goes for a handspring front pike for the second vault, which was strong, especially in the air. Just a large step forward on the landing.

10:23 am. Melnikova RUS BB- Punch front mount is great, pause before split jump to straddle jump series, switch ring, back leg isn’t bad actually, full L turn, balance check but she pulls it back, front aerial, stag ring jump isn’t quite at 180 and the back leg isn’t that great, bhs loso with some bent knees and she steps back out of it, side somi is good, small adjustment, piked full-in with a step to the side, muuuuch better landing than yesterday! Just some leg sep in the second flip and the landing is a tiny bit buckled with her chest down.

10:21 am. Jakubczyk ITA VT- FTY, clean in the air, chest high on the landing, small hop back. Yurchenko layout is clean with a bounce.

10:20 am. Basile ITA BB- Back handspring mount is good, bhs bhs layout, some knee issues and leg sep on the layout but solid, switch to split leap to split jump is nice, quick and easy full turn, front aerial, bent knees with a wobble, side aerial, check and break at the hips, switch half, little bobble, double pike, great there, just a couple of steps back.

10:18 am. Silva BRA VT- FTY, not bad in the air, just a little short with a step. Clean Yurchenko layout, little bounce in place.

7. Giada Grisetti, Italy, 13.500
8. Guo Fangting, China, 12.733

10:04 am. Iliankova RUS UB- Shang! Yay, Hindorff to Pak, Maloney to clear hip half to Ezhova, van Leeuwen, toe full to full-in with a small step. Great work.

10:03 am. Yin CHN FX- Triple turn before her first pass, a triple full, excellent in the air from what I could see. 2.5 to front pike, also strong. Switch ring to tour jeté half. Double tuck, nice set and good landing, small step back. Double spin. Double full, solid landing. Excellent routine.

10:01 am. Shchennikova USA UB- Inbar full to Komova II to big Tkachev, nice, Ricna to Pak, super clean on the Pak, to stalder to Chow half, good work, stalder half to front giant to half-in double back dismount. Actually I think the best bars set I’ve seen her do???

10:00 am. Serber FRA FX- Tucked full-in, step back but good chest position on the landing. 2.5 to front tuck is super clean. Double pike, good landing, knees go a bit soft in the second flip. Double full to finish is solid. Good work.

9:57 am. Smith USA UB- Short handstand before inbar to inbar full to inbar half to straddle Jaeger, nice handstand before Downie, Ricna to Pak with just some leg sep on the Pak, Ray back up to high, stuck tucked full-in, great routine actually, just those inbars…which they can’t really deduct for because if her feet clear the bar, it’s an inbar no matter how much it lacks in pike down. But aesthetically I just don’t want it.

9:54 am. Iorio ITA FX- Tucked full-in, way short with her chest down and a big hop forward. Memmel turn is nice. Front double full, scoots back a bit. Switch side half. Triple full, a little short, but good rotation. Double pike, some leg sep, short with chest down and a hop forward.

9:51 am. Villa ITA FX- Memmel turn to full pirouette, tucked full-in, chest down with a little hop but not severe on either, front double full, weirdly short and she sits it. UGH. Looked like she was fighting to stick it. Switch full. Third pass, triple full that she kind of flies out of. Clean double tuck with a little bounc. Switch ring, back leg isn’t good. Her facial expression in her last pose is usually adorable and fun but today she’s like “eff.”

Charpy FRA UB- Toe full, a little late, Chow half, toe half to piked Jaeger, Ricna, close catch and not a lot of height, Pak with some leg sep, all of her handstands are at least 20 degrees short, but the last handstand is nice before the double layout, stuck, just some knee issues in the second flip.

9:48 am. Grisetti ITA UB- Inbar full arched throughout and she has to fight for the handstand before her Maloney BUT SHE GETS IT, to stalder half to inbar to inbar half to layout Jaeger, not quite at a legit layout but close enough that it’d be credited, bail to stalder full to stalder to Ray, staldar half to Endo half to double front stuck. I feel like there’s way too many stalders and inbars in there but I didn’t count them, and the ‘extra’ ones she’s doing are prob skills that she’s not counting toward her difficulty (like the basic stalder half at the end).

9:44 am. Wahl FRA FX- Whip to double tuck, pretty solid, excellent landing. Double pike, chest down with a hop back. switch to tour jeté half, some fun choreo bits in here, front full that she kind of hops/jumps out of, switch half, some creepy Nutcracker vibes in there, split jump full, full Y turn that she preps a lot for, but I like that she dances out of it into the corner for her last pass, a solid double full.

9:43 am. Melnikova RUS UB- Inbar full to Maloney to Pak, solid, short handstand before van Leeuwen, some ankle sep, inbar half to big piked Jaeger, no problems there, blind change to toe full almost right on the bar, to full-in, messy in the air but great stuck landing.

9:40 am. Urazova RUS FX- Cool opening choreo into her super controlled triple wolf turn that actually flows into choreo rather than just falling into it. Big and clean triple full to open. Double tuck, clean but she has a step back OOB. Lovely Memmel turn. Switch leap to switch full. Double L turn to full pirouette. Front double full, solid and also clean. 2.5 with a little step forward OOB again. But damn. DAMN. I have a new obsession.

9:39 am. Jakubczyk GBR FX- Tucked full-in, a little short, chest down and she hops back, cute choreo section after that pass, switch leapto tour jeté half, whip to double tuck with a step back that takes her OOB, switch half, 1.5 to front layout. Just the landing issues on the first two passes.

Guo CHN UB- Toe full to toe on to Maloney to Pak, flexed feet, Chow half with her legs fully apart and almost didn’t catch, toe half to straddle Jaeger, good there, double twist dismount with a hop.

9:35 am. Barbosa BRA UB- Ricna to Pak, some leg sep but solid, Maloney to bail with ankle sep to Ray, short handstand before toe full (ankle sep) to Tkachev between the bars, a little close, blind change to front giant half, finishes with a double layout basically stuck, excellent routine aside from the minor issues.

9:32 am. Tatum USA FX- Tucked full-in, excellent form and a great landing, just a little bounce back, 2.5 to front pike with a tiny hop, clean leap series, 1.5 to front tuck, also suuuuper clean, small bounce, switch half, double tuck to her KNEE WHAT THE CRAP this was so good until then.

9:27 am. Hi y’all!! I wanted to make sure my stream was in good working order before I live blogged but it seems to be fine today so you won’t get any random screaming from me. Hopefully. 🙂 Here’s what happened in the first event final rotation.

I started quick hitting during Carofiglio’s vault, but before that Liu had a Rudi and DTT with her usual form issues, and Afanasyeva looked excellent on her DTY. On beam, there were a billion falls on beam from Jakubczyk and Wei, though Berar was excellent, and Serber also had a lovely routine aside from a step on the dismount.

Carofiglio VT – Yurchenko 1.5, good landing, messy in the air, second vault is a handspring front pike with a hop forward, not bad

Federici BB- front walkover mount, front handsprint to front tuck, front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, stag ring jump, weak back leg, double spin overrotates and she falls, split leap to side aerial, switch to sissone, double full with. hop

McCallum VT- DTY stuck, solid form, Yurchenko half-on front tuck half, step back

Iorio BB- front walkover mount, side aerial, bhs loso, some messy legs but not super bad, double turn, overrotated, but holds on, frot aerial, 1.5 Y turn is excellent, double pike with a hop back

Golgota VT- big DTY, nice throughout the first twist but opens up her legs on the second and has to step back slightly, solid tsuk full, leg sep on preflight and she pikes it down, small hop back

Gerasimova BB- Press handstand into a front walkover, love that mount, switch to sheep jump to back handspring, cute and nice fluidity but legs are messy on first two, side aerial loso fall, front handspring front tuck series, wolf turn, front aerial to split jump to Onodiside split half, a litle weak in the split, 2.5 stuck!!!! ugh

Melnikova VT- DTY with a hop back, messy legs in the air, Lopez is messy from start to finish and she’s short on the landing, step forward.

Urazova BB- Lovely loso mount, triple wolf turn is super solid, bhs bhs layout is also solid, split leap to sissone landed with a little arabesque flair, love, front aerial with a little leg-up bobble, Onodi to sheep jump is great, lovely and perf double wolf turn, side aerial, full Y turn to pirouette, 2.5 with a hop, THIS WAS PHENOMENAL

  1. Yesss Flavia you go queeeeen! I’m soo impressed by her, she was injured for most of last year and she just casually shows up with a DTY, a fabulous beam set, and wins the silver on floor. Also, Jade Barbosa. WTF? The Brazilians are the comeback queens.

    • Please. Brazil had so much promise with Andrade, Saraiva and Thais and they have failed miserably. They had a f* Olympics in their country and failed to get a single medal (no they were not too young). Also no medal on 2017 worlds aka weakest worlds of all time. Their opportunity is long passed. No wonder Alexandrov left them.

      • Oh haha sad about your country relying on Mustafina and Komova for quads now? Flavia and Thais are better on beam and floor than (basically all) the Russians, and Andrade’s vault is 10x better than Paseka’s mess-anar. Find something better to do with your life than troll this blog.

        • Considering the Jesolo, the Russians (without Mustafina and Komova) got 12 medals (5 golds) and the Brasilians 1.
You can hate the Russian stupid trolls here, but you cannot put the Russian gym in the trash can.

        • Yes, Russian team is fabulous, and Flavia Saraiva is incredible. Il love her energy, artistry and joyfulness. She obviously deserves medals on beam and floor ! The difference between such incredibly talented gymnasts (like Flavia or Melnikova) and those ones who collect medals (like Alya or Aly) is not talent but consistency. Just a step outside the mat and the dream is over …

        • aha you should not criticize the inconsistency of Russian girls when you call Flavia queen, basically free. She is undoubtedly a talented girl, but she is so inconsistent in beam, in Rio practically she made podium, but the nerves betray her, what use is it that she has a very difficult routine if when it is time to show the world the quality of her gymnastics : She fails. And for God’s sake, do not make fun of Komova and Mustafina training for the Russian team because I remind you that Barbosa has been part of the Brazilian team since 2000. Who, by the way, my compatriot Ana Lago defeated on the floor at the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara (My beloved Guadajalara, my home). Do not be so negative with the Russian team, and do not take out your frustrations against him, because even though he is sorry, the Russian school, heiress of the Soviet is not yet dead, sees the quality of Vlada Urazova who is hardly a junior. And about the Paseka jump, I see that someone still weighs on her that she is twice the world champion, I feel for you. Greetings from Guadalajara, Mexico. The land of the mariachi and the tequila agave

  2. Any idea what Alyona’s deductions on bars were? She hasn’t been able to break 14.5 in the past but she seems to be leaning toward bars specialist. Where does she need to improve if she wants to be one?

And Ragan almost tied with Iliankova! Wow! For a non-bars specialist she’s doing pretty well!

    • Her biggest deduction is definitely her foot form. Nearly all of her skills have flexed feet and it adds up to a ton of deductions. She also has some handstand issues on top of her feet. She obviously has great skills, but her execution can be subpar at times.

    • In addition to Alyona’s foot form, she misses a handstand or two every exercise, and typically has dismount issues. She just recently changed her dismount from a severely overpiked double layout to a kind of messy Fan, but she has plenty of time to refine it before nationals. Her difficulty though is right up there to contend for a World final.

      • Maybe top 8 in 2019? Think it might be able to happen with a recovered Larisa Iordache, Ioana Crisan, Denisa Golgota, Anamaria Ocolisan, Nica Ivanus. They would be able to have Maria Holbura, Iulia Berar and Carmen Ghuciuc as reserves.
        Vault: Ocolisan, Iordache, Golgota (Crisan)
        Bars: Ocolisan, Crisan, Iordache, (Golgota)
        Beam: Ivanus, Crisan, Iordache, (Golgota)
        Floor: Crisan, Iordache, Golgota, (Ocolisan)
Tbh this isnt even a terrible line up at all.

        • Yeah, that team is pretty darn good. It absolutely could happen and I have newfound hope for the Romanian team, as this is their best competition in years. Hopefully the new kids will keep getting better, or they’ll end up in the pile with Stanila and Munteanu.

        • This is their best international performance since 2014 for sure, but i don’t think they’re going to be top 8 before 2020. With the exception of Iordache— who they need in any capacity, even if she only has one or two events back by worlds— they don’t have any bar workers. Right now, a podium level team needs to average around a 14 on Bars to stay in the competition, and this team would be lucky to average a 13. The best team they can field is probably Iordache, Crisan, Golgota, Ivanus, Ocolisan and Holbura. That team gives them 2 DTYs, and maybe 2 Bars scores above a 13. In theory, they would get good numbers on Beam and floor, but not enough to minimize the damage from the former two
events; and this is only assuming that Golgota, Ivanus and Crisan all improve and assuming that Iordache is back and does all-around, while they have had trouble translating juniors and not burning out veterans.

  3. They did a bit better than I expected, but my heart is still bleeding a bit from where they were and where they are ( I know, I am a bit dramatic :D). I did see a massive improvement on bars, altough did Ocolisan fall twice? And Ghiciuc once? Ghiciuc has some really nice lines and hits her handstands. Yey for Nick Ruddock coming and hosting some workshops with them! I have no idea where Crisan is, but I think she is injured (last time I heard). These girls need to be trained properly and try (as much as possible) to avoid injuries. I’m kinda still hoping Forminte gets kicked out, I honestly don’t think he belongs anywhere near coaching these girls.

      • I don’t think he is a good coach. I personally haven’t seen him training, but I know that more or less a lot of our girls left because of having issues issues with him. I’ve also read about girls being “banished” from the team, even after good results – the first infuriating example that comes to mind is Andreea Iridon. Gogolta’s coaches and Olivia Cimpean’s parents also do not approve of Forminte’s techniques, and more and more examples that I’d rather forget.
Bellu and Bitang are not coaching the senior girls. They are running a national gymnastics programme with young girls, in the hope of building some sort of selection base. I’ve met Bellu at the European Nationals and he said him and Bitang want to stay away from the seniors (which is good).
I have been screaming for Moldovans to coach the national team for at least a year now – ain’t happening 😂. That would be too good.

  5. For me, the biggest of this Jesolo is the discovery of Vladislava Urazova. I love to discover Junior ! Last year, I was so impressed by Ana Padurariu, the year before by Emma Malabuyo. This year, both Russians Urazova and Listunova are thrilling me ! The young Celia Serber is very impressive too !
