France should have a strong European team capable of defending their team bronze from 2016 or perhaps even earn the silver.
The same team should be solid for Worlds also.
It all depends on how Juliette Bossu looks come end of October.
My team would be:
MDJDS, Boyer, Charpy, Bossu, Devaillard with Vanhille as alternate.
They should make TF easily and might even have a chance at a bronze medal depending on how the competition goes.
VT: (Charpy) Boyer, MDJDS, Devillard (Devillard bumps up the vault score by .7-.8 alone)
UB: (Boyer) Charpy, Bossu, MDJDS(a bit weaker here they could use Vanhille here ad the 3rd athlete in TF)
BB: (Bossu/Devillard) Boyer, MDJDS, Charpy (again weak here as Boyer is either good for a 13 or makes many errors to go into the 11s, same with MDJDS actually)
FX: (Bossu/Devillard) Charpy, Boyer, MDJDS
Bossu is only good for one event: UB but can depsartely use her 14. Devillard is only good for VT but they need her mid 14 score.
Charpy is inconsistent but they need her on UB,BB, FX
Boyer is the most inconsistent AA, and she could potentially be placed into the alternate role for Vanhille, who would be used in the AA in prelims and has the same scoring potential. Vanhille is more consistent on BB than Boyer which is a huge plus. Boyer and Vanhille are equal in experience.
The other option is to not take Devillard at all and use Vanhille on VT in TF
VT: (Charpy) Vanhille, Boyer, MDJDS
UB: (Charpy/Boyer) Vanhille, Bossu, MDJDS
BB: (Boyer) Vanhille, Charpy, MDJDS (BB is a bit more consistent here)
FX: (Vanhille) Boyer, Charpy, MDJDS
Bossu gives more to the team total on UB than using Boyer or Charpy than Devillard would give on VT by using Vanhille instead.
It will be interesting to see how the athletes look at Europeans.
France could make team finals and challenge for a bronze or be completely out of team finals because they are inconsistent

They need Devillard… They can challenge, but they need strong rotations on everything, and vault is fairly weak without her. They should have two DTYS from MDJDS and Boyer, but Russia will have a Rudi DTY DTY lineup and they’ll want to keep pace so they can challenge if Russia melts down. I actually think they have the second best European team behind Russia! With Germany and GB broken rn, the door is wide open for the silver medal to be won! I also think Hungary can be a dark horse, with Kovacs, Cimpian, and Devai. That’s a three DTY lineup right there! Italy would challenge for gold if Iorio, Villa, and D’Amato could compete, but without them, they’re toast.

I also think they need Bossu on UB. But that will depend on how Vanhille and Charpy look.
Otherwise it will be one of Boyer, Charpy, or Vanhille as alternate in Doha. Most like one of the last two because they are fairly inter changeable.

Boyer is an asset. Her DTY, beam, and floor are too good to leave behind.

Marine fell on beam while performing a double wolf turn during the AA. It wasn’t her day. She looked tired and defeated. Coline Devillart seemed to have problems with her ankles. Or maybe it’s because they played Zou bisou bisou from Mad Men during the vault warm-up… Mélanie was definitely the queen of the championship and is now clearly the best by far.
As for the men, Léo Valentin, who’s just 19, performed a triple back for his dismount from high bar and that was pretty cool.
The meet allowed proximity with the athletes and the podium. I could have invaded the floor and do a cartwheel in the middle of Mélanie’s floor routine if I had wanted to.
One thing I didn’t like is that for the medal ceremony for event finals, they created strange combinations like pommel horse + beam, so 3 girls and 3 boys ended up at the same time on the podium to get their medals. I guess they wanted to wrap it up as fast as possible but it looked cheap. P

“maybe it’s because they played Zou bisou bisou from Mad Men during the vault warm-up” LOLLLL idk why this made me laugh so much but it did.
I hope Marine is able to look back at her beam fall and laugh because it was excellent.

Zou bisou bisou is an old song from 1960. The lyrics were written by Michel Rivgauche (who wrote as well for Edith Piaf). There are any french old songs in Mad Men, like “Couleur café” from Serge Gainsbourg.
Mélanie is very strong. She wasn’t at her best yesterday, but she’s definitely a very strong AAer, the strongest French AAer for an incredible long time.
