Oklahoma and UCLA at last year’s #TogetherWeRise meet
The meet of the weekend is hands-down the Sunday afternoon rematch between top-ranked Oklahoma and second-place UCLA, who faced off in Los Angeles last year where the Sooners got the win by a tenth, though the Bruins came back with a fire at NCAA Championships to upset for the title.
Maggie Nichols, who was out last week, is expected to return this weekend, joining three other former U.S. world championships team members and four other individual national champions. Like last year, the meet will air on ESPN, and Oklahoma is doing a tremendous job promoting it to people in the community, shooting for the goal of getting 10,000 fans in the stands, which would double their usual average. But more importantly, the two programs have been instrumental in leading the charge against abuse in the sport, and will return with the #TogetherWeRise platform that was so inspiring last season.
On Friday night, Florida (No. 3) will compete at Arkansas (No. 20) in a meet that won’t be streamed, but follow both teams on Twitter for glimpses at routine videos. There will also be what should be a super exciting meet between LSU (No. 4) and Georgia (No. 7), while Alabama (No. 8) will host Auburn (No. 12) in an always-exciting in-state showdown, and Kentucky (No. 10) will travel to Missouri (No. 16).
Outside of the SEC, there are a ton of interconference meets this weekend, with one of the more exciting being Utah (No. 5) hosting Michigan (No. 9). With the Wolverines on the rise in recent weeks, getting a huge 197.750 in last weekend’s Big Five match, it’ll be fun to see if they can keep the magic happening outside of the Big Ten, and to see if the Utes will be able to keep up.
Also keep an eye out for Denver (No. 6) at Illinois (No. 30), Minnesota (No. 11) hosting Pittsburgh (No. 38), Boise State (No. 13) hosting Washington (No. 17) and Utah State (No. 35), Cal (No. 14) at Sacramento State (No. 63) along with UC Davis (No. 36), Oregon State (No. 15) hosting Bowling Green (No. 55) and Alaska (No. 57), Nebraska (No. 18) hosting Southern Utah (currently unranked as they don’t have enough scores for an RQS, though that’ll change after this weekend), and BYU (No. 19) competing at George Washington (No. 34) with Maryland (No. 32).
The full schedule for week nine is below. All times listed are ET, the first team listed is the host team, and we’ll update any links as they are updated on each program’s schedule. Once the meet is finished, we’ll add the results. Enjoy!
