10:33 am. I missed a few individual routines because of the drama, nothing huge. Pranati Nayak just hit a really nice set on bars!

10:31 am. Italy slips in ahead of Germany thanks to Elisa Iorio doing her JOB under pressure. Congrats, you just made every Olympic team for the next 40 years.

The Italians have been hugging and sobbing for the past 5 full minutes.

10:27 am. Iorio ITA BB: Stumble on an aerial. Switch leap to split leap. Bhs loso loso, tentative with a long pause before but she got it. Front aerial, slight check. Full Y turn, check. She is REFUSING to fall. Hop back on the double pike. QUEEN UNDER PRESSURE. 12.633 (5.1, 7.533)

10:24 am. Erichsen NOR UB: Hit a relase, Pak with slight leg separation, stalder to van Leeuwen, messy legs there, blind cfull with messy legs, and a full-in dismount. She’s SO good for Norway, just messy on bars, but I LOVE HER. 11.966 (4.7, 7.266)

Tran VIE FX: Double pike, then a 2.5 to front tuck, great! Double tuck, short, step forward. Good routine. 11.866 (4.8, 7.366, -0.3)

10:22 am. Carofiglio ITA BB: Switch to split jump to straddle jump. Off on her layout series. Punch front pike, little stumble forward. Good gainer layout dismount. 11.266 (4.7, 6.566)

E. Downie GBR VT: Cheng for the second vault! And it was GREAT.

Tronrud NOR UB: I missed this. 11.900 (4.2, 7.700)

10:19 am. E. Downie GBR VT: Hit the DTY with a big bounce back. 14.466 (5.4, 9.066)

10:18 am. Kinsella GBR VT: Hit the DTY, I didn’t see it aside from the landing. 14.300 (5.4, 8.900)

10:15 am. Villa ITA BB: Loso mount, lovely. Roundoff tuck full, too far to the side and she falls. WELP. Switch to split jump. Switch half is nice. Switch to side aerial, check. Clean double full. 12.533 (5.3, 7.233)

Madsen BUL FX: Arabian double front, sat it. Double pike is low with a hop. Hit the third pass, scorpion turn, and she successfully does the scale turn she submitted as well! Hit the last pass. 11.333 (4.8, 6.533)

James GBR VT: Yurchenko 1.5, really low deep landing. 13.766 (5.0, 8.766)

10:09 am. Right now it’s China, France, Italy, Belgium, Canada, South Korea, Great Britain, and Germany, but Great Britain goes to vault in the final rotation where they’re sure to make up some points. I can see them around where Germany finished.

10:06 am. Nguyen VIE BB: Wolf turn 1.5, bhs layout, break at the hips but holds on, good. Front aerial, wobble and leg up, good jump series. switch leap, back tuck. side aerial, hips are angled to the side and she falls. Transverse split jump half. Double full, helicopter twists, and a little short.

10:01 am. Tran VIE BB: She has a REALLY nice beam when she hits so fingers crossed. Front aerial, into a clean jump series. Bhs loso, little check. Tour jeté half, some form things. Switch ring, little stumble. Had a fall after that but I didn’t see where. Double full, a little wild. 10.533 (5.3, 5.333, -0.1)

James GBR FX: Whip to arabian double front, lands it OOB and then stumbles off the mat. 1.5 through to triple full, pretty solid. Tour jeté full. Front double full is messy but hit. Hit the double full. 12.500 (5.5, 7.300, -0.3)

10:00 am. Das IND VT: I missed this, 13.000 (4.2, 8.800)

9:58 am. E. Downie GBR FX: 1.5 through to arabian double front, little shuffle back but good! Double double, ugh, not enough steam, falls. She looks SO mad. Hit the double pike. She looks…defeated. Poor kid. 12.433 (5.5, 6.933)

Cedres URU BB: Off on her flight series. 8.600 (4.3, 4.300)

9:57 am. Iorio ITA UB: Ricna to Pak, very clean. Maloney to stalder half to Ezhova, nice. Chow half. Blind change to front giant to front giant full to double front, lovely. 14.133 (5.8, 8.333)

9:56 am. Nayak IND VT: She did a Rudi for her first vault, I didn’t see it but it scored decently…14.200 (5.8, 8.500, -0.1). Second vault was a solid tsuk full.

9:54 am. Kinsella GBR FX: 1.5 through to 2.5 to front tuck, YAS! Double tuck, a little low. Double full, I didn’t see this one super well, and then the double pike at the end was a bit low. 12.433 (5.0, 7.433)

Madsen BUL BB: Bhs loso, hip check but gets it. Also hit her barani!!! And her attitude turn. Good jumps. Side aerial. Double full is messy and lots of form issues throughout but this was a nice hit routine for Laney. 11.233 (4.6, 6.633)

Asia D’Amato UB: Ricna to Pak, leg separation. Maloney is low, to a low Tkachev, but she gets through both. Church, nice! Blind change to front giant to front giant full to double front with a step. 14.000 (5.8, 8.200)

9:53 am. Erichsen NOR VT: NICE air on her FTY! Just a step back into her salute. 13.400 (4.6, 8.900, -0.1)

9:52 am. Alice D’Amato ITA UB: Maloney to Tkachev, nice. Clean handstand before her Ricna to Pak, also very clean. Chow half, a little low but no problems catching. Blind change to front giant to front giant full, a little late, to double front, little hop. GOOD! 14.133 (5.8, 8.333)

9:51 am. Søderstrøm NOR VT: Tsuk full, a little low on the landing. 13.133 (4.8, 8.433, -0.1)

9:48 am. Fenton GBR FX: I didn’t see what her first two passes were but she hit both, the first just had a tiny stumble. Double tuck, chest a little low, hop forward. 12.500 (4.7, 7.800)

Do VIE BB: Came off on something early on. Hit the rest, chest down on her double pike dismount.

Villa ITA UB: I wasn’t typing at the very beginning but she hit everything I saw, Tkachev, then Ricna to Pak to Maloney to Bhardwaj, nice. Van Leeuwen, blind change to front giant full to front giant half, hit the dismount with a step. 14.300 (6.2, 8.100)

Tronrud NOR VT: Yurchenko layout with a step back. 12.733 (4.0, 8.733)

9:44 am. Looking at team scores at the halfway point, it’s still China and France in the lead, but Italy after that vault rotation is third and Great Britain is fourth, ahead of Germany and Belgium.

9:40 am. Das IND FX: Her music is nutso, I love it. Low and long double pike, lunge back. Double tuck with a step back. Switch leap to split leap. 1.5, comes into it super low but still gets it around. 11.466 (4.4, 7.066)

Nguyen VIE UB: Ray, nice. Maybe a little close to the bar. Pak, just some leg separation. Toe half to Endo half, a little late but nice! Stalder, goes for a full but gets stuck, does a half and then has to correct her positioning before her toe shoot. Then arches over on a handstand on the high bar and comes off. High double tuck, but she cowboys it and can’t land it super well, is a bit short and stumbles forward, couldn’t see if her hands touched the mat. 8.033 (3.7, 4.333)

9:39 am. Cedres URU UB: Straddle Jaeger, hit the transition to the low bar, toe-on to toe shoot, blind full, a little rough and late, double pike, sat it. Ugh. 9.166 (4.2, 4.966)

9:36 am. B. Downie GBR BB: Candle mount. Switch ring, good. Side aerial to back handspring, some form things. Switch to switch half, leg up. Hit a leap into a back handspring. Side somi, good. Switch to full turn. 1.5 dismount with a hop. Not the strongest beam set but it’s what they needed after a fall. 13.100 (5.4, 7.700)

Erichsen NOR FX: Double pike, high and clean, step back. Clean double tuck. ABBA music, btw, and it’s fabulous. Front tuck through to layout full. Another good routine for her!

9:35 am. Madsen BUL UB: Maloney to Pak, bent legs but didn’t phase her. Toe shoot, Lovely handstand before a blind change to straddle Jaeger, goes too far out and she misses. Back on for a blind change to front tuck half dismount, I feel like she must have balked her actual dismount?? 7.566 (2.4, 5.166)

9:33 am. Do VIE UB: Was going well for her, nice Pak, but came off after a handstand issue on the low bar. Hit the rest. 9.6 (4.1, 5.500)

Kinsella GBR BB: Double wolf turn is clean. Side aerial loso loso, is super solid!! Smiles at the end of it. Hit a leap series, I think into a side somi but I missed the entry into that. Either way, good landing. Front aerial, little bobble. Double pike with a hop forward. 13.433 (5.5, 7.933)

Søderstrøm NOR FX: Solid double pike and a clean double full! Switch ring. Front full with a hop forward. I really like this routine! 11.900 (4.5, 7.400)

9:31 am. Alice D’Amato ITA VT: Another solid DTY! Hop back. 14.500 (5.4, 9.100)

9:29 am. Tran VIE UB: Maloney to clear hip, way short in handstand, Tkachev, nice toe point! Just a little low and close. Pak, legs apart and bent knees, drags her knees on the mat and then hops off. Hit the rest when she got back on.

Asia D’Amato ITA VT: Big DTY, not quite as tight as Villa’s, but stil pretty good. 14.500 (5.4, 9.100)

E. Downie BB: Check on her side aerial. Switch to switch half, good. Wobble on her punch front. Double spin is a little rough, break at the hips, but saves it. Bhs loso, a little crooked, hip check. 2.5 with a hop forward. 12.366 (5.1, 7.266)

Tronrud NOR FX: Double pike, step OOB. Hit the front full and the last pass. 11.433 (4.2, 7.333, -0.1)

9:28 am. Villa ITA VT: HUGE and GORGEOUS DTY. That was fantastic. 14.666 (5.4, 9.266)

9:25 am. Fenton GBR BB: Back handspring mount, just slightly crooked. Clean double wolf spin. Hit her flight series, then a switch to split leap to full Y turn, break at the hips, good save. Double spin, bigger break at the hips, and she can’t hang on this time. 😦 Fall. Front aerial with a slight check. Stuck the double full dismount. 11.566 (5.0, 6.566)

Iorio ITA VT: DTY, solid! I can’t see form super well from here but the landing looked good. 14.366 (5.4, 8.966)

Nayak IND FX: 2.5, just a slight stumble. Double full is a little short and she has some leg form issues. Hit the last pass.  11.133 (4.3, 8.833)

9:23 am. Rotation switch!

9:18 am. Erichsen NOR BB: Bhs loso is lovely!! Switch leap, little check. Clean front aerial, split jump to sissone. Full turn in front attitude, very lovely. She’s the only one performing and has everyone’s attention. Side somi, little wobbles. Gainer pike dismount. Great routine! She’s a LOVELY gymnast. If last year was the qualifier, Julie would’ve made it to Tokyo, so… *fingers crossed* 11.500 (4.4, 7.100)

9:17 am. Carofiglio’s score puts her currently fourth on floor!

9:15 am. Søderstrøm NOR BB: Front aerial, bhs loso, fall. switch to split leap. Full Y turn, good. Gainer pike dismount. 10.433 (4.4, 6.033)

9:13 am. Carofiglio ITA FX: Front layout to double front is VERY nice. So clean! Dowell, also very clean, hop forward. Switch half. Nice leap series into the corner before her third pass. Her choreo is so cool and so is she. 1.5 to front pike, lovely. Split ring leap down into some choreo. That was a stunner. 13.400 (5.0, 8.400)

9:12 am. Tronrud NOR BB: Bhs layout, a little crooked and she has a fall. Switch to back tuck, good. Side somi, legs are a bit messy. Hit the dismount, a back gainer full I think.

Becky Downie currently third on bars!

9:11 am. Cedres URU VT: Tsuk back pike, nothing super rough with it, just not a ton of amplitude.

9:10 am. Madsen BUL VT: I think she did a tsuk full, had a step I think OOB. 13.400 (4.8, 8.700, -0.1)

9:07 am. Asia D’Amato ITA FX: Opens with a Full-twisting double layout, it’s rough in the air and she has a huge stumble forward on the landing. Multiple lunges out of, but she didn’t fall and she tried her hardest not to. Hit her second pass. Double full opens up well, just some form stuff.  12.100 (4.7, 7.400)

B. Downie UB: Hit her first release, then a Downie, Tweddle to Ezhova, van Leeuwen, and a full-in with a small hop back. YAY! 14.800 (6.3, 8.500)

Das IND BB: Punch front pike, India loves those punch fronts. Wasn’t typing during some of this but she’s hit everything so far. 10.866 (3.9, 6.966)

Tran VIE VT: I missed this. 12.933 (4.2, 8.733)

9:04 am. Nayak IND BB: Good punch front mount! Also nailed the punch front after. Off on her flight series. Solid 1.5 dismount. 9.933 (4.5, 5.433)

Villa ITA FX: Solid tucked full-in. Front double full, lunges forward out of it. God this routine is SO much pandering, I’m obsessed. Italy really popped off on these four and it’s fantastic. Switch to switch half. The crowd is going nuts. Double tuck. Superstar. 12.900 (4.8, 8.200, -0.1)

Fenton GBR UB: Derwael-Fenton to Ezhova, good. I missed a skill after that. Ricna to Pak was very clean, then a van Leeuwen, toe full, just slightly muscled, and a super open full-in with some leg form and a tiny hop. 14.333 (6.0, 8.333)

Do VIE VT: Good FTY, just a little forward on the landing, step. 13.300 (4.6, 8.700)

9:02 am. Nguyen VIE VT: Yurchenko layout REALLY close to the table. Baby hop. 12.500 (4.0, 8.500)

E. Downie GBR UB: Toe front half to Maloney to Hindorff, good! Piked Tkachev to Pak was good, toe full gets a bit messy, loses her leg form completely, bends at the knees, and she tries to correct it but ends up arching over and coming off, UGH. Gets the toe full the second time, a bit arched, van Leeuwen, short handstand before the giants, double layout with a small hop. 12.666 (5.5, 7.166)

9:00 am. Kinsella GBR UB: Caught the Jaeger, Ricna to Pak is lovely, Maloney to Gienger, great, toe full to arabian dismount with a big hop. That was a great routine really, just that dismount was a bit weak. 13.966 (5.8, 8.166)

Iorio ITA FX: Big OOB on her triple full at the start of her routine. Double pike is solid. Front full with a small hop. The Italians always perform so well to the judges at the end. Like, right in their faces. It’s great. 12.400 (4.9, 7.600, -0.1)

Budda Reddy IND BB: Off on her back pike series. The rest was good, though! 10.200 (4.4, 5.800)

8:58 am. Touch warmup just finishing up! Italians in black with a gold/yellow accent on the front, Great Britain in a brilliant red.

  1. Georgia and Alice both fell on their strongest events in quals last year and they haven’t this time! Georgia hit bars and Alice hit beam!
The fact that GB isn’t counting a fall on beam is a win in itself.

  2. This is why the gymternet needs to stop underestimating Miss Alice Kinsella! She pulled through for us all and is the top GB AA qualifier again!!

I’m sad about Ellie being 2 per countried but Georgia might not even make the final anyway with her score and Ellie is coming for a vault medal.

    • I don’t think the gymternet underestimates her…I think CASELLA does! I was questioning why she wasn’t an all-arounder in my preview, but just assumed she wasn’t looking strongest on beam and floor among the Brixia Four. But it could just be that Casella counts her out as the weakest even though she’s proven time and again to be one of the team’s best under pressure.
