Emma Malabuyo BB: Nice on the wolf turns, a triple and a double. Solid triple flight series, wobble on the punch front, good correction to stay on. Hit an aerial series but then fell on something after that, nooooooooooo! Got the dismount.

8:58 pm. Karis German FX: Had a really nice front layout full through to double tuck. Big full-in to finish. Fantastic!

Aleah Finnegan BB: Lovely mixed series! But sat her 2.5 at the end of her awesome dismount series. Ugh, she looks so sad, this was such a rough day for her.

8:57 pm. Riley McCusker UB: I didn’t type through this but she was SOLID on everything, this was SO good. Dismount looked stuck from here. Amazing. Showstopping. 14.650 (6.2, 8.450)

8:48 pm. Grace McCallum BB: I caught it from the split leap to side aerial loso, fabulous series. Front aerial, little wobble out of it, good dance connections with leaps and a turn, double pike with a step back. Redemption! 14.200 (5.7, 8.500)

8:46 pm. Amari Drayton FX: Double layout opening pass, whip whip through to double tuck, good! Small hop back. 1.5 to front full. 13.050 (5.1, 7.950)

8:44 pm. Kayla DiCello BB: Triple wolf turn goes well, then a double, clean. Hit an acro something or other through to a pslit leap to jump. Front aerial to a jump. Off on her bhs loso loso. Kaylaaaa. 12.650 (5.5, 7.150)

8:42 pm. Sydney Barros FX: Full-twisting double layout comes up short, hands down. Arabian double front with a hop back. Switch ring to tour jeté full. Double tuck is maybe a little low and long but she hits. Double pike, legs are split. 12.450 (5.6, 6.850)

Jade Carey UB: Church to Gienger, amazing! Muscles thorugh her blind change before the Ezhova, good fight, Maloney to Bhardwaj, nice. Van Leeuwen I think after, blind full, some ankle separation, and a stuck full-in.

8:38 pm. Zoe Miller FX: Double layout with a small hop back. Front tuck through to double tuck with a step back OOB. 1.5 through to double full, solid! 12.800 (5.3, 7.600, -0.1)

Addison Fatta VT: I missed this, but she did a DTY, looked good! 14.450 (5.4, 9.050)

8:36 pm. Shilese Jones VT: Beautiful DTY! Huge and awesome landing. 14.850 (5.4, 9.450)

8:35 pm. Jordan Chiles FX: Full-twisting double layout and double layout are both excellent. Front double full comes out a little low and the front full out of it lands low. OOB. Stands up quickly to fix it. Double pike with a hop back.

6. Jade Carey 41.500
— Emma Malabuyo 41.500
8. MyKayla Skinner 41.200

8:27 pm. Karis German BB: Wobbly on her flight series but fights through it. Switch leap, off on her standing full, ugh. Good jump series. Standing front tuck, love that, SO hard. Transverse split jump half. Double tuck dismount, big step.

8:23 pm. Leanne Wong UB: Great handstand before the toe full to Maloney, takes an extra swing before the Pak, connects to Chow half, stalder half to straddle Jaeger, double layout is clean with a hop back. 12.700 (5.2, 7.500)

MyKayla Skinner BB: Back dive mount, off on the tuck full. Hit her acro to jump series after. Switch to switch half to back tuck, solid. Transverse split jump half connected pretty well to the straight jump full. Full L turn to full pirouette. Double tuck, small hop. Great routine after that fall. 12.550 (5.6, 6.950)

8:20 pm. Addison Fatta FX: Had a front through to double back, a little weak in her front layout full. Double full at the end a little buckled. 12.900 (5.0, 7.900)

Amari Drayton BB: Mostly solid routine, great double pike! 12.900 (5.1, 7.800)

Grace McCallum UB: Stalder full to Maloney to Pak to Chow half, leg sep on that last skill but overall a great series! Piked Jaeger, misses the next release!!! Ricna I think but I missed the very beginning. Sticks the full-in. 13.050 (5.5, 7.550)

8:19 pm. eMjae Frazier VT: DTY, some soft knees, but gets it around nicely, step back. 14.400 (5.4, 9.000)

8:17 pm. Kayla DiCello UB: Toe full to Chow to Tkachev, blind change to piked Jaeger, huge Church, great handstand after before the Pak to van Leeuwen, oh NO, not close enough to catch and slips onto her back!!! Does it a second time with bent knees. Gets the dismount. 12.900 (5.8, 7.100)

Sydney Barros BB: Great punch front. Hit the rest…good double pike! 13.000 (5.5, 7.500)

Jade Carey VT: DTY, actually wasn’t super clean?? But huge. 14.700 (5.4, 9.300) Just a Lopez second vault, I assume playing it safe here because she doesn’t want to risk injury since her spot is locked anyway?

Shilese Jones FX: Step on the 1.5 double tuck. Double layout with a step. Maybe a little short. Stumbled back and sat the arabian double front. Double tuck with a hop back.

8:16 pm. Coming back now!

8:12 pm. Warmups for the second half!

8:10 pm. Zoe Miller BB: Side aerial loso, hip angle is off and she hops off. Switch to switch half to back tuck, good on the transverse jump, then a front aerial to gorgeous split jump, into another jump I think, my brain stopped working…double pike with a step back.

8:08 pm. Emily Lee UB: Slipped off on her van Leewen, hard fall on her back. The rest was hit, Including the full-twisting double layout dismount. 12.150 (5.3, 6.850)

8:06 pm. Kaylen Morgan FX: Arabian double front, big step forward OOB. Double tuck after is good! Hit her third pass as well. 12.700 (5.0, 7.800, -0.1)

Jordan Chiles BB: Front aerial to straddle jump to back handspring…or walkover, idk! Good on the side somi. Good on a transverse jump, SO solid so far! Full-in, a bit low with a big lunge forward but that was really the only issue!

8:04 pm. Kara Eaker UB: Church to Pak, a little iffy in the Pak form, clear hip to clear hip full a little short, toe half to piked Jaeger goes out really far but she catches no problem. Straight double layout with a hop back. 13.900 (5.5, 8.400)

8:01 pm. Emma Malabuyo UB: Great set, full-twisting double layout dismount with a big step back. 13.950 (6.0, 7.950)

Sunisa Lee FX: Hit the opening pass but I didn’t see, double double I guess? Something to front full after that landed well. Little stumble forward on the double tuck at the end. 13.750 (5.5, 8.250)

Chellsie Memmel BB: Hit the flight series no problem! Everything else going great so far. Illusion turn was a little iffy but not super bad. Step back on the standing arabian. Double pike was great, just a step. Queen! 13.700 (5.8, 7.900)

8:00 pm. Skye Blakely VT: DTY, really nice! 14.700 (5.4, 9.300)

7:58 pm. Katelyn Rosen VT: Yurchenko 1.5, good landing! 13.900 (5.0, 8.900)

Aleah Finnegan UB: Struggled with her Weiler…rested on the low bar for a second, then arched over and came off. Also REALLY low on the dismount. 11.700 (5.3, 6.400)

Simone Biles BB: Triple wolf turn. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump. Solid bhs loso loso. Switch to switch half, wobble with her leg coming up but holds it and stays on. Side aerial solid. Little check on the transverse jump. Good full-in! 14.350 (6.3, 8.050)

Ciena Alipio FX: I watched this but didn’t pay super close attention, she hit everything I saw. 12.300 (4.7, 7.900, -0.3)

Ava Siegfeldt VT: Great Yurchenko 1.5! 14.400 (5.0, 9.050)

7:50 pm. Laurie Hernandez scratched floor, not sure why.

7:48 pm. Kaylen Morgan BB: Bhs loso, takes a step back out of it then falls. Split leap to front aerial. Leg up on the switch to switch half. Just a layout dismount. 11.900 (5.1, 6.800)

7:47 pm. Skye Blakely FX: Big double layout, bounced OOB. Second pass also had her heels close to the line if not out. Good front double full to front tuck! Switch full. Stuck the double pike, chest just maybe a little low. 13.450 (5.4, 8.150, -0.1)

7:46 pm. Zoe Miller UB: Lovely routine, hit! 14.300 (6.0, 8.300)

Sunisa Lee BB: Triple wolf turn, then a double, double was great! Okay I missed something right after that, but caught it again from the side aerial loso, which was basically the end it seems, and a double full to finish. 13.900 (5.6, 8.300)

Ava Siegfeldt FX: Really ncie double layout at the start!

7:42 pm. Starting back up again!

7:38 pm. Touch for the second half is starting now!

7:37 pm. Katelyn Rosen FX: Arabian double front in the second pass was nice. Had a slightly wild landing on the double full after but regained control quickly. Stuck the last pass! 12.700 (4.9, 7.800)

7:34 pm. Chellsie Memmel UB: Short handstand before the Hindorff to Pak, damnnnnn! Maloney to clear hip to…ugh, doesn’t get the cast to handstand and hops off. Back on for a blind full to Tkachev between the bars, love that, blind change to front giant to double front, stuck!!!! 11.650 (5.0, 6.950, -0.3)

7:32 pm. Morgan Hurd FX: Double layout, small step back OOB. Full-in, chest a little low, step back. Hit the third pass. Double pike, deep landing. 12.600 (5.0, 7.700, -0.1)

7:31 pm. Ciena Alipio BB: I caught it from her leap series, front aerial to jump series was nice, hit the dismount. 13.700 (5.8, 7.900)

7:30 pm. Simone Biles UB: Weiler half to Maloney to Tkachev, good, Toe full, ankles apart, to piked Tkachev to Pak, van Leeuwen, and a HUUUUUUGE Fabrichnova, literally went 50 feet above the bar. LITERALLY. 14.750 (6.2, 8.550)

7:28 pm. Addison Fatta BB: Nice flight series. Hit her leap series as well. Good double full! 12.050 (4.8, 7.250)

Aleah Finnegan VT: Sat the Yurchenko 1.5!!! Nooooo 13.050 (5.0, 8.050)

eMjae Frazier FX: Big double layout to start. Full-in with a step back. Switch ring to tour jeté half. Double pike maybe for third pass, good landing. Split jump full. Oh, last pass was a double pike so idk what the third one was. Good landings on both! 13.350 (5.2, 8.150)

Emma Malabuyo VT: DTY! A little sloppy throughout but not bad on the landing.

7:27 pm. Karis German UB: Floaty transition up to the high bar but I missed the entry. Toe half with some ankle separation, into a nice piked Jaeger, Church, Pak is a little too arched, van Leeuwen, little hop on the dismount. 13.600 (5.6, 8.000)

Shilese Jones BB: Hit routine, double pike dismount.

Jade Carey FX: Sorry but I somehow missed almost all of this? I turned over just as I thought she was starting and she was doing the double tuck at the end. Sounds like she hit based on the crowd?! 13.250 (5.7, 7.650, -0.1)

7:20 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. Simone Biles 15.800
2. Sunisa Lee 15.300

4. MyKayla Skinner 14.900
5. Chellsie Memmel 14.750
6. Amari Drayton 14.350
7. Sydney Barros 14.300
— Shilese Jones 14.300

7:17 pm. I’m missing a lot with four events at once because our angle is horrible…normally I’m sitting on one of the sides of the arena so I can see the whole arena out in front of me, but this time, we’re on the long end, so I have bars directly in front of me but then have to turn to the right to see everything else, so I’m constantly turning my head back and forth and it’s THE WORST okay rant over!!!

7:15 pm. Kara Eaker FX: 3.5 to punch front was…insane, her feet were definitely off when she landed the 3.5, looked like she arabianed out of a triple hahaha. The triple full after is also short in rotation. 2.5 to front layout. This composition is so dangerous for her if any of her passes get downgraded but what else is new? Slow rotation on the double pike but lands it.

Ava Siegfeldt BB: Hit everything I saw. 12.800 (4.7, 8.100)

Zoe Miller VT: Lovely 1.5! Didn’t she do a full at classics? Landing here was great!

7:12 pm. Emma Malabuyo FX: I saw a nice full-in from her.

Katelyn Rosen BB: A little shaky on a front aerial but that’s all I saw. 12.600 (5.4, 7.200)

Jordan Chiles VT: DTY, solid, clean, excellent. Tsuk full for the second I think, landed it very well!

Ciena Alipio UB: Came off after she lost her handstand, otherwise hit all of her skills.

7:11 pm. Chellsie Memmel VT: DTY, she’s going for it! WOW. Omg she’s like, DEAD. CHELLSIEEEEE. Hopped back but that was SO good!!!!

Addison Fatta UB: I missed this.

7:08 pm. Simone Biles VT: Cheng, super clean, and looked stuck to me! Like it’s easy. 15.800 (6.0, 9.800) Amanar for her second vault, big leap out of it but will still score great.

Shilese Jones UB: Great stalder full to Maloney to Tkachev. Also did a release to a Pak. Hit the dismount no problem.

Morgan Hurd BB: Came off on something at the beginning. 😦 Standing full? Then agan on her flight series. Little wobble on the switch to straddle jump. Hands down on her dismount. Morgan. 😦 10.300 (5.2, 5.100)

Aleah Finnegan FX: Double double, hop back. Hit everything else I saw, front double full to front pike was lovely!

7:07 pm. Touch is over for the second half of rotation one! Here we go!

7:00 pm. eMjae Frazier BB: Really nice jump series. Punch front is also solid. Side aerial, little bobble. Great flight series. Let up on a back pike I think. Double back. Aside from that back skill, this was great! 13.000 (5.4, 7.600)

Leanne Wong FX: Double double, a little low with her chest position. Gets the whip to triple! Third pass was also great, 2.5 to front full I think? I missed the entry. Double pike is solid, little bounce. Good for her. 14.200 (5.7, 8.500)

6:57 pm. Grace McCallum FX: Double doube, looked clean in the air, just not there on the landing. Goes a bit wild OOB. Full-in was much better on the landing. Tour jeté half. Sat the third pass. Double tuck to finish. 12.450 (5.4, 7.350, -0.3)

Jade Carey BB: Full turn, and hit the flight series after. Hit everything else, and a double tuck dismount. Good work! 13.550 (5.6, 7.950)

6:54 pm. Laurie Hernandez BB: My laptop froze for a sec so I didn’t type during this but she hit everything I think? 12.400 (5.0, 7.400)

Kayla DiCello FX: Same as above! 14.050 (5.7, 8.350)

Karis German VT: FTY, big! 13.750 (4.6, 9.150)

Lyden Saltness UB: Also missed most of this but she hit. 12.100 (4.9, 7.200)

6:51 pm. MyKayla Skinner VT: Cheng, very strong, just a little soft. Amanar wasn’t as good as the warmup, where she nearly stuck, but still pretty great in the air, just a little more seated on the landing. 14.900 for the Cheng (6.0, 8.900).

Kaylen Morgan UB: Hit routine! 13.100 (5.1, 8.000)

6:50 pm. Skye Blakely BB: Came off on her front handspring front tuck series. I didn’t see a lot of the rest but didn’t see her come off anywhere else. Double tuck with a small step. 12.750 (5.6, 7.150)

Emily Lee FX: Double double was a little low. Hit her double pike with a big step back at the end. 13.450 (5.4, 8.050)

Amari Drayton VT: DTY, big air, big step back. 14.350 (5.4, 8.950)

6:49 pm. Sydney Barros VT: DTY, soft leg/hip form but landed well. 14.300 (5.4, 8.900)

Sunisa Lee UB: Nabieva to Bhardwaj to Maloney to Gienger, very nice. Piked Jaeger to Pak to van Leeuwen, excellent. Nailed the dismount. GIRL! 15.300 (6.8, 8.500)

6:46 pm. Touch warmups are underway!! Should be starting any minute now.

  1. Wow, comp sounds great so far. Too bad I can’t watch it because I’m watching 10 minutes of Simone talking to people. It’s a good thing I didn’t turn on gymnastics to like…watch gymnastics

    • Like in this modern day and age isnt there a way to contact someone, complain, tweet, something to the producers of these broadcasts? Direct contact lol

  2. Carey went out both feet second pass I think? And she missed a leap, literally stopped smiled, lol. Cute. Fell out of a turn as well.

  3. Laurie after beam was getting her knee wrapped and they said she isnt doing any other events. 😦 Something with the knee

  4. Is it safe to say Konnor McClain is petitioning directly to trials, considering she changed her coach about 24 hrs ago? Lol

  5. I wasn’t expecting Chellsie to do bars until trials. Soo glad she did. Super impressed by this woman (maybe mostly that she recognizes that she’s old enough to not need a bow in her hair).

    • Leanne has stunning toe point and body line but I actually prefer Grace for amplitude and swing and think she also has great form.

  6. Can we talk about how Jade shouldn’t even be trying to make the team if she wants to have any sort of friendship with the other women?

    • She isn’t trying. She was filmed talking about it pre-2019 Worlds and people won’t stop reporting that she is trying to make the team. After Tom said she would not be considered at ’19 Worlds if she secured the specialist spot she hasn’t said anything about it since. Yet here we are.

    • Things could get very interesting if she corrects the leap issue on floor, adds in the triple double layout, brings back her normal vault difficulty and cleans up beam a little.

  7. Ok so reality, the US can take Simone, Suni, and Jordan and compete as a team of three and have no weaknesses. I’d only be slightly worried about Jordan just because she doesn’t have international experience and we don’t know how she’d handle the pressure. Whoever is fourth: which is grace, Leanne, Kayla, maybe Riley since we haven’t seen her, eeek.

Extra spot: I wonder how Tom will figure that out- is it the fifth place AA finisher? Is it a specialist? I think it’s down to Riley, Grace, Kayla, and Leanne again. I can’t think of anyone who stands out on an event besides MyKayla and I don’t think they take her with the scores she’s getting. Same with Kara.

    • I think you’re right about this. It will be Biles, Chiles and Lee + 1. Not the most consistent group – Jordan’s been killing it lately but can she keep it up, plus Suni on beam is a little bit or miss – but they’re way ahead of the rest of the pack.

Agree that the fourth spot could go to Wong, DiCello, or maybe McCallum. I think Riley McCusker’s best shot is probably as a bars/beam specialist. Also don’t see Skinner going – they’ve got vault covered and her scores elsewhere are just not good enough.

Bummed that Morgan Hurd seems to be well off the pace. I love her but she’s just not quite ready.

      • Yeah it’s really upsetting. Had the Olympics gone as originally scheduled she probably would’ve been right in there, but as it stands she doesn’t look like she’ll be top 4/5 in a few weeks.

  8. Might there be a leo panel for this meet?? It’s been so long and they’re so fun to read!

Thanks for all your hard work!!!

  9. I don’t understand the vault judges. Simone got a 9.8 execution with a .3 hop on her Amanar, plus the .1 for crossed ankles. Should have been 9.5 or 9.6. Skinner seemed like the only gymnast to score below 9.0 execution on vault for a very very nice Cheng. Should have been at least 9.2. And Chellsie gets a 9.3 E for her vault which had leg separation, flexed feet, bent knees and a hop? Compared to Skinner, and compared to the gymnasts who nailed clean Yurchenko Doubles, Chellsie was so overscored and Skinner underscored.
(Don’t get me wrong, Chellsie was fabulous and was great in doing the DTY, but it was so overscored compared to the field. And with Skinner. She’s not going to make the team without a higher floor score, but that’s not the point. Her vault was so underscored compared to the field. They always do this to her vaults, which would score so much higher internationally. And what was with Simone’s overscoring? She doesn’t need it. She’s amazing, but she was overscored.)

    • Ah, I see now looking at the actual score lists from USAG that NBC incorrectly posted the E score for Simone’s Amanar. It was actually 9.5 (but they showed 9.8 on the screen). Much more accurate.

  10. so it’s nothing else after this but the trial? i guess the next competition will really be the one and only real thing?

    • Day 2 of Nationals and trials. Other than the top 2 AA both days combined at OT, the criteria is so vague and vast it’ll basically be whoever they want. I suspect they’ll take the top 5 AA at OT and put whoever doesn’t make sense in the team final in the off spot with Jade.

Simone, Suni and Jade are all strongly favored to win individual medals. I think anyone else would be a surprise. Of the girls remaining, I think Riley has the most medal potential if something unexpected happened.

This isn’t 2019 though, the huge advantage team USA had then has dwindled so they may shock us and disregard AA, especially if someone like Suni falters or someone like MyKayla ends up shining.

    • Yes. I doubt she’ll do it in Tokyo though. I have a feeling she’ll stick around for Worlds or at least do another FIG competition this year to compete it. I think she has a lot more to offer and hope she doesn’t retire, but she’s actually been very lucky escaping injuries considering the level of skills she’s doing and the pace in which she learned them.

  11. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I think this corner of the fan base is very nice and genuine to the queens and gymnasts. We all love and appreciate the crazy skills they perform. Periodt!!!

  12. How did Leanne and Chellsie score the exact same on their vaults? When clearly Leannes was 100% cleaner. Chellsie had a bent elbow on the table, criss cross feet, large step back, compared to Leannes clean DTY with great landing?

  13. Catching up now. All I can say is, Tim Daggett still not being over the low D rating for the Biles beam dismount is an absolute mood. 😀
