One million hours later. My flight landed during the fifth rotation and then I had to de-plane and go through customs so I literally ran to the baggage claim to watch the last 5 minutes of the competition on my phone. It was thrilling.

The U.S. was ahead of China and Great Britain, but was going to high bar while those two went to rings and floor, two excellent events. It only took one routine for China to get back on top over the U.S., but the British team had a fall on floor, and the U.S. was able to build on what it did in prelims thanks to a stellar routine from Fred Richard.

Final Standings

1. Japan 255.594
2. China 253.794
3. United States 252.428
4. Great Britain 249.461

9:29 pm. Okay they JUST told me to put my laptop away lol. I’ll be on Twitter until I get off the plane! And will come back to this blog later to add info when I can.

9:28 pm. Rotation 4 Standings

1. Japan 169.230
2. Great Britain 169.129

7. Italy 162.662
8. Germany 162.028

9:26 pm. Noe Seifert SUI FX: I think he started with a 1.5 to double front, some form it looked like. Piked double front, rotates a bit slowly and ends up pushing forward on the landing, chest down and a step. Hit the third pass into a tucked barani IIRC. Then a double full down the side. 2.5 to front layout looked great. Triple full also strong. 13.600

9:25 pm. Finally got to see a replay of Minami’s vault, he stuck the Kas double full!

Jake Jarman GBR PB: 14.166

Lukas Dauser GER HB: 13.266

9:21 pm. Su Weide CHN FX: 2.5 to double front, stuck! 3.5, tiny hop forward. Double double, stuck. 1.5 knees went a little weird, to a rudi. Russians to a split. Front full to front double full, leaning back a little on the landing but overall nice. Triple full with a step back. 14.100

9:20 pm. Luca Giubellini SUI FX: Ugh, looks like a miss for him, I was so hopeful! 12.033

Félix Dolci CAN PB: 14.100

Yumin Abbadini ITA HB: 14.033

9:16 pm. Asher Hong USA VT: Ooh, score just came in, assume he did the Ri Se Gwang, and he gets a 15.100! Here’s the replay now…yes, Ri Se Gwang, just a step back, but that looked awesome.

Minami Kazuki JPN VT: He follows it up with a 15.000, I forget what he competes but it’s a 5.6, E score was 9.400!

James Hall GBR PB: Wasn’t typing but saw this and it was good! Double front dismount had a wobble with his arms but his feet didn’t move. 14.466!

Pascal Brendel GER HB: 13.800

9:14 pm. Lin Chaopan CHN FX: This guy must be SO TIRED, I can’t believe he’s doing this. Front double full to double front, hop forward, think he may be OOB. Piked double front with a hop to the side. Randi with a hop back. 2.5 to front full, lands it a little deep but nothing major. Triple full with a step back. 13.800

Hashimoto Daiki JPN VT: Guessing the Kas double went well! Just saw the replay, it was HUGE, small bounce back! 14.900

Rene Cournoyer CAN PB: 13.666

Matteo Levantesi ITA HB: 13.166

9:12 pm. Paul Juda USA VT: Looks like he went OOB, 14.400

Max Whitlock GBR PB: 13.800

Lucas Kochan GER HB: 12.000

9:11 pm. Florian Langenegger SUI FX: Front double full to front layout with a hop forward OOB. Double double, little hop forward. Randi was strong. Double full also good. 2.5 to front full with a hop back. Triple full, little bounce. 13.766

9:09 pm. Khoi Young USA VT: Handspring randi, a little unsteady on the landing, hop to the side OOB. 14.666

Kaya Kazuma JPN VT: 14.633

William Emard CAN PB: 14.033

Mario Macchiati ITA HB: 12.833

9:08 pm. Sun Wei CHN FX: Think I saw him start with a randi. Front double full to front layout with a hop forward. Double double a bit short with a hop forward. Double full has a little shuffle back. 2.5 to front full, small hop back. Triple full to finish with a nice landing. 14.033

9:05 pm. Rotation 3 Standings

1. China 127.163
2. Great Britain 126.697
3. Switzerland 124.963
4. Japan 124.697
5. United States 123.797
6. Germany 122.962
7. Canada 122.898
8. Italy 122.630

9:03 pm. Think we’re just waiting for Lin Chaopan’s HB score. Okay, he gets a 14.133.

9:01 pm. Matteo Levantesi ITA PB: One-arm pirouette right away, pike to handstand arched over a bit, went for another one-arm pirouette but missed the handstand completely, leg form came apart, tried to control it back but it came crashing down onto his arms and he had to jump off. Back on, does it brilliantly this time into a Bhavsar, has another pirouette where his legs are everywhere, but stays on, barani, and a stuck double pike. 12.366

9:00 pm. Lukas Dauser GER PB: 15.366

Noe Seifert SUI HB: 13.800

8:57 pm. Asher Hong USA SR: Iron cross and inverted cross look good, maybe could be a bit more spread out on the inverted cross if that makes sense? Planche to maltese was clean. Another maltese from the inverted hang, front giant to handstand with slight adjustments, and a double double layout dismount, some knee form and a hop back. 14.000

8:56 pm. Pascal Brendel GER PB: 13.566

8:53 pm. Su Weide CHN HB: Tak full was almost there, Tak half close to perfect, Liukin, lovely. Layout Tkachev, too far out and he misses. Back on for the Kolman, goes flying off, hard onto his back. Back on for German giants to inbar stalder, wild handstand out of it, double double layout with a step back and his number completely peeled off of his singlet.

8:51 pm. Yul Moldauer USA SR: I started watching at the planche, through to a layout swing up to handstand, rolls through to iron cross, inverted hang to pike, saltos to iron cross, opens his hands and nods, double double dismount with a hop back and a wobble. 13.866

William Emard CAN VT: Kas 2.5, big lunge forward OOB but he did a vault today! Happy for him! 14.033

8:50 pm. Harry Hepworth GBR VT: Handspring randi, small hop back. Looked pretty nice in the air!

Courtney Tulloch GBR VT: 14.333

Lorenzo Casali ITA PB: 12.900

8:48 pm. Taha Serhani SUI HB: Tak half, maybe a little shy of handstand, right into the layout Tkachev, big Kolman, some leg separation, straddle to piked Tkachevs, gets really floaty, blind change to Tak full, not quite at handstand but not bad, Yamawaki, Quast, full-twisting double layout, beautiful, small step back. 13.766

8:47 pm. Sugimoto Kaito JPN SR: Wasn’t typing for this but it was a hit routine! He’s very happy with it.

8:45 pm. Jake Jarman GBR VT: Kas 2.5, RIDICULOUSLY good! Nailed the landing! Maybe a little deep but not bad at all. Beautiful in the air. I’m yelling.

Rene Cournoyer CAN VT: 14.400

Lucas Kochan GER PB: 12.266

Sun Wei CHN HB: 14.200

8:43 pm. Paul Juda USA SR: Planche to pike sit, out to maltese, saltos to straddle sit, presses to handstand, pretty clean, hit the dismount. 13.600

8:42 pm. Félix Dolci CAN VT: Great Kas 1.5 in the air, tried to stick it, ended up on his toes having to fight a bit for the landing, also landed with a foot OOB.

8:41 pm. Chrisitan Baumann SUI HB: Layout Tkachev, Rybalko was really late in the finish, Tak, double double layout with a great landing. 13.866

8:38 pm. Rotation 2 Standings

1. China 87.664
2. Switzerland 83.531
3. Italy 83.198
4. Japan 83.198
5. United States 82.331
6. Great Britain 82.098
7. Germany 81.764
8. Canada 80.132

8:37 pm. I think I have Peacock working! Just casually missing an entire rotation.

8:36 pm. Hahsimoto Daiki JPN PH: Apparently a strong routine. 14.266

8:31 pm. U.S. is apparently doing an inquiry for Fred’s routine.

Noe Seifert SUI PB: 14.033

Khoi Young USA PH: Had a fall halfway through his routine. 13.600

8:29 pm. Chiba Kenta JPN PH: 13.066

You Hao CHN PB: Glad to see they’re apparently killing it today! 14.966

8:26 pm. Courtney Tulloch GBR SR: 14.100

8:25 pm. William Emard CAN SR: 13.800

Nick Klessing GER VT: 12.966

Christian Baumann SUI PB: 14.133

8:23 pm. Okay, until I can connect to a VPN again I’m gonna be scores only with just basic notes from what I’m seeing on Twitter, which isn’t a ton. Sad!!! Trying to get Peacock up and running but it wasn’t working before, thus the VPN situation.

Apparently a long wait for Richard’s score.

8:22 pm. James Hall GBR SR: 13.466

8:20 pm. Fred Richard USA PH: Another hit routine for the U.S. men according to Twitter! Though not a great score… 12.500

My internet problem is apparently more about connecting to the VPN needed for All Gymnastics than about the internet itself, ughhh!

8:19 pm. Félix Dolci CAN SR: 13.733

Lorenzo Casali ITA VT: 14.400

Taha Serhani SUI PB: 13.066

8:18 pm. Kaya Kazuma JPN PH: hit routine based on what I’ve read online, and he was apparently celebrating super hard! 14.200

8:14 pm. Yul Moldauer USA PH: Had a fight to save his dismount. 13.533

Harry Hepworth GBR SR: 14.100

Nicola Bartolini ITA VT: 14.566

Sun Wei CHN PB: 14.733

8:12 pm. Rene Cournoyer CAN SR: 13.533

Mario Macchiati ITA VT: 14.333

Just gonna post scores for now I guess lol.

8:10 pm. Just lost the stream, it’s amazing it’s lasted this long, but will hopefully get it back soon!

8:09 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. China 43.299
2. United States 42.698
3. Switzerland 42.299
4. Japan 41.666
5. Great Britain 40.432
6. Germany 40.332
7. Italy 39.899
8. Canada 39.066

8:07 pm. Stream is still ignoring Asher’s existence and no score yet on the app! They’re in touch for the second rotation now.

Asher Hong USA FX: 13.966

8:05 pm. My flight is definitely going to land before this meet ends but I’m fully planning on watching the rest in the airport lol.

8:04 pm. Not seeing Asher Hong’s FX but I’ll update with the score when it comes up!

7:59 pm. Rene Cournoyer CAN PH: I believe he had a fall unfortunately. But good on Canada for hitting the first two. 11.033

Lorenzo Casali ITA SR: 13.500

China seems like they had a great vault rotation. Going back and seeing some of it now, they just showed Sun Wei’s Kas double full, step to the side but nicely done. Then they showed Su Weide’s, same vault, a bit deep with a step back, but 5.6 D for both so some sweet scores!

7:56 pm. Minami Kazuki JPN FX: Double double half out to PUNCH FRONT LAYOUT FULL OH MY GOD???? Double double. 3.5. 1.5 to randi I think was the next one. I’m still in shock over his opening. 2.5 to front double full. Stuck the triple full. 14.333

7:54 pm. Max Whitlock GBR PH: Scissors to handstand down to circles, Russians on the single pommel, super smooth, Russians between the handles, swings around into circles with some hip form that doesn’t quite open up, feet as usual, Busnari down to flairs were great, into circles, travels in Russians, better form there, legs get a bit floppy before his dismount, minor form breaks but a super good set overall!

7:53 pm. Nick Klessing GER SR: 13.866

Jayson Rampersad CAN PH: 13.833

7:50 pm. Fred Richard USA FX: Double double half-out, really strong landing! Front double full to front full, solid. Down to front support before his flair work, it’s super good. Double double, another great landing. Stuck the double full down the side. 2.5 to front layout, small hop forward. Little step on the last pass, I think it was a full-in, another SUPERB set! 14.366

7:48 pm. Yumin Abbadini ITA SR: He might be my favorite MAG right now. Pike sit out to planche, slow and clean. Deliberate and controlled work into the handstands, saltos to pike sit, press to handstand, a little short there. Double double with a hop back. 13.266

Hashimoto Daiki JPN FX: Didn’t get to see this, hopefully will get a replay? 14.300

Su Weide CHN VT: 14.700

Jake Jarman GBR PH: 13.233

7:46 pm. Zachary Clay CAN PH: Starts off really nicely into the handstand out of the scissors, moves well in his Russian elements across the horse, travels in circles, little leg form into the dismount but a great hit! 14.200

Florian Langenegger SUI VT: Going back to see this I think. Shewfelt, could be a little tighter In the air, hop to the side. 14.233

Mario Macchiati ITA SR: 13.133

Luca Giubellini SUI VT: 14.433

Nils Dunkel GER SR: 13.700

Sun Wei CHN VT: 14.866

7:44 pm. Yul Moldauer USA FX: Beautiful randi to start. Front double full to front full. Excellent arabian double front half, in the air and on the landing. Flairs are great. Stuck the double full down the side. 2.5 to front layout. Small hop back on the triple full but this was gorgeous. 14.366

7:42 pm. James Hall GBR PH: Scissors through to circles, one-arm swing, circles on the single handle form got a bit sketchy but he corrected well into the Russians, could open his hips a bit more, Russians across the horse, legs start going wild, and they stay wild, he can’t bring them back. Ends up coming off after a few seconds of that. Back on for a couple of circles into the dismount. 11.933

7:40 pm. Chiba Kenta JPN FX: Piked double front with a hop forward. Front double full to front layout, ends weirdly low and squatty, needs to hop back. 1.5 to randi I think was the third pass. Clean double full down the side. Next pass was super weird, ended up punching into a tucked barani? Hit the triple at the end with minor form. 12.933

7:39 pm. I land in exactly two hours so this thing needs to get moving.

7:37 pm. Touch is underway. I’m gonna do what I can with scores but don’t want too many tabs open in case it makes the stream even worse lol. I’ll try to get them on my phone but if I can’t do it for individual routines I’ll definitely include end of rotation updates.

The lineup for the top group starting on floor is – Chiba, Moldauer, Hashimoto, Richard, Minami, Hong!

7:36 pm. The quality of the stream for me on Jet Blue wifi is hilarious but I’m surprised it’s been good so far, no buffering really. Apologies to other passengers trying to check their email.

7:34 pm. Athletes are marching in!

7:31 pm. I’m on a plane in the sky and wifi isn’t the GREATEST but I’m going to do my best to blog this thing!
