Charlotte Booth

The release of the roster for this year’s English Championships came with a bit of a surprise, as former U.S. junior national team member Charlotte Booth is listed to represent Park Wrekin, home of Olympic medalist Alice Kinsella.

Booth, 17, has competed at the last three U.S. national championship meets, most recently finishing 24th all-around in 2023, where her best apparatus result was a 10th-place finish on the uneven bars, typically her strongest event. Also a strong dancer and performer with lovely artistry on beam and floor, Booth said on Instagram that she’s spending a month training at Park Wrekin in the lead-up to both English and Welsh Championships. She added that as a dual citizen of the United States and United Kingdom, her focus remains on continuing to train and compete in the U.S., but she is “open to the opportunities” that may come her way. Booth is still registered as a U.S. athlete with the FIG, so if she does ultimately make the decision to compete for the British program, she’ll have to first go through the change-of-nation process.

Her now-teammate Kinsella is also slated to compete at the English Championships, which begin March 1 in Telford, as is fellow 2020 Olympic medalist Amelie Morgan, who will return to elite for the first time since Tokyo after completing her first two seasons as a student-athlete at the University of Utah. World medalists Becky Downie, Ondine Achampong, and Georgia-Mae Fenton are also on the list, as are worlds team member Ruby Evans and junior worlds all-around, vault, and floor finalist Abigail Martin, though the women’s field is missing Jessica Gadirova, Jennifer Gadirova, and Poppy Stickler, all of whom are currently recovering from injuries.

On the men’s side, we’ll see reigning world vault champion Jake Jarman alongside 2023 teammates James Hall, Harry Hepworth, Courtney Tulloch, and Max Whitlock, and 2022 teammates Joe Fraser and Giarnni Regini-Moran, both of whom were absent last season, with Fraser competing at just a single challenge cup while Regini-Moran missed out completely following a recovery from surgery.
