4:20 pm. Gabby Douglas with a 50.650 AA, a few tenths shy of the AA requirement of 51.000 for nationals, but her three-event score is 39.2 so she should qualify on VT+UB+BB for now, and then give the AA another go at the U.S. Classic?

CaMarah Williams UB: Clear hip to toe half, muscles through it into a giant, then does a back giant to Jaeger, think she was supposed to doe a toe full before the Jaeger, some form on both of the transitions, toe half, again think that was supposed to be a toe full, turns herself around again to go into the Gienger, doesn’t quite have it, fall. Hit the dismount. 10.250

  1. OK, maybe a stupid question, but: Can athletes qualify on all events for nationals, but qualify the events over multiple competition?

For example: Gabrielle Douglas got the 3-event score for VT+UB+BB here. If she got a 3-event qualifying score for VT+BB+FX at the U.S. Classic (but tanked UB and not get a 51 all around), could she compete all 4 events at nationals? Or would she have do decide which qualifier she’d want to count?

    Thanks!

    • If she had 2 different 3-event scores (VT/UB/BB from American Classic and a VT/BB/FX or otherwise from the US Classic), but not the AA score of 51.000, she’d have to choose which 3 event score to use.

The Elite Qualification Chart reads “Qualification scores attained for Classics and/or U.S. Championships must be achieved in one USA Gymnastics sanctioned competition. Gymnasts may not combine scores from separate USA Gymnastics sanctioned competitions to qualify to Classics and/or U.S. Championships.”
