3. Stephen Nedoroscik, United States, 15.300
4. Max Whitlock, Great Britain, 15.200

6. Sugino Takaaki, Japan, 14.933
7. Hur Woong, South Korea, 14.300
8. Loran de Munck, Netherlands, 13.733

12:12 pm. Hur Woong KOR PH: Sadly had a fall early on but had a great recovery and looked fab overall! 14.300 (6.7, 7.600)

12:08 pm. Oleg Verniaiev UKR PH: Scissors to handstand, a little short, moves well into the circles, Sohn, Russians between the handles, some hip form, muscled into the handstand for the dismount, but overall a great set. 14.966 (6.6, 8.366)

12:05 pm. Sugino Takaaki JPN PH: Wasn’t typing but this was a solid hit, hip form was really noticeable after the last couple of guys so don’t think his execution will be quite as high but overall a very strong set! 14.933 (6.7, 8.233)

12:01 pm. Stephen Nedoroscik USA PH: Scissors go a little wonky at one point? But nothing severe. Russians on the single handle, Sohn, another one-arm circle, good on all so far, travels in Russians right to Russians at the end, good hip extension for the most part, little tiny muscle to handstand, finishes brilliantly though, big applause from Rhys on the side! 15.300 (6.4, 8.900)

11:59 am. Touch for the second half!

11:54 am. Rhys McClenaghan IRL PH: Scissors to handstand went beautifully, circles at the start and Russians on the single handle, superb, more circles, Russians between the pommels, great extension, travels, more Russians at the end, beautiful into the dismount, SIMPLY INCREDIBLE. 15.533 (6.6, 8.933)

11:50 am. Loran de Munck NED PH: Things were going well throughout this routine until he was going backwards in a circle, hit his legs, and came off. 13.733 (6.5, 7.233)

11:47 am. Max Whitlock GBR PH: Really had to muscle into handstand, almost didn’t make it, down to scissors, single handle Russians, Russians between the handles, all good there, hip and foot form on his circles after, Busnari was a bit short, down to flairs, Russians across the horse and back, leg separation, Russians at the end of the horse, circles into the dismount went well. 15.200 (6.9, 8.300)

11:44 am. Nariman Kurbanov KAZ PH: Scissors through to circles, everything goes really well, minor hip form on occasion, Sohn went well, sorry, I’m typing from memory, also had some Russian work, leg separation into the dismount, but I would call this a big hit! 15.433 (6.7, 8.733)

11:39 am. Men are arriving for the pommels final!

11:19 am. Women’s Vault Final Standings

1. Simone Biles, United States, 15.300
2. Rebeca Andrade, Brazil, 14.966
3. Jade Carey, United States, 14.466
4. An Chang Ok, North Korea, 14.216
5. Valentina Georgieva, Bulgaria, 13.983
6. Ellie Black, Canada, 13.933
7. Yeo Seojeong, South Korea, 13.416
8. Shallon Olsen, Canada, 13.366

11:15 am. Jade Carey USA VT: Starts with the Cheng, has a wide leg separation on the pre-flight but pulls together and tightens up in her block, minor form in the air throughout and a solid landing. Small hop back. 14.733 (5.6, 9.133)

Yurchenko double full was excellent! Glad she stuck with this and didn’t go for the Amanar, tbh. 14.200 (5.0, 9.200)

14.466 average

11:11 am. Yeo Seojeong KOR VT: Handspring rudi, not a great block, pikes immediately for the twist and lands basically on her knees, they kind of graze the mat before she takes a big lunge forward. 14.166 (5.4, 8.766)

Yurchenko double full is also really short, stumbles forward and puts her hands down. 12.666 (5.0, 7.666)

13.416 average

11:06 am. Rebeca Andrade BRA VT: Absolutely brilliant Cheng, almost sticks again but as in the all-around, cheats the slightest lack of control into the salute. Truly can barely find a single deduction in the air. 15.100 (5.6, 9.500)

Goes for the Amanar for the second vault! It’s excellent overall, not quite as textbook as the Cheng, but still pretty gorgeous, little steps on the landing. 14.833 (5.4, 9.433)

14.966 average

11:02 am. Ellie Black CAN VT: Handspring front layout full, excellent landing! Some soft hip and knee form in the air but love that her vibe is like WHAT blind landing? Queen. 14.100 (5.0, 9.100)

Tsuk 1.5 with a leap forward, same slightly soft form in the air, but overall a great couple of vaults for her! 13.766 (4.8, 8.966)

13.933 average

10:58 am. Touch for the second half is underway!

10:52 am. Simone Biles USA VT: Yurchenko double pike, gorgeous in the air, three-tenth hop back, looks like OOB, but this was excellent. 15.700 (6.4, 9.400, -0.1 ND)

Huge clean Cheng! Gets way more distance than height, so slightly lacking in that aspect, but I think this was one of her better Chengs in recent memory? Pikes down slightly before landing. Hop back. 14.900 (5.6, 9.300)

15.300 average

10:46 am. Shallon Olsen CAN VT: Cheng to start, weak block with both arms significantly bent, comes horizontally off the table, gets no height, though gets some distance, it’s honestly wild how she can twist that around with no height, I’m not even mad, I’m impressed. Obvious form deductions in the air, short with her chest down and a big hop on the landing. 14.100 (5.6, 8.500)

Also a kind of weak arm block on the Yurchenko double full, goes low and long again and lands it to her knees. 12.633 (5.0, 7.633)

13.366 average

10:41 am. An Chang Ok PRK VT: Yurchenko double full, basically stuck, kinda loses control while trying to hold on but sneaks into the salute. But excellent overall, some pike down in the air. 14.066 (5.0, 9.066)

Cheng for the second vault, looked a bit cleaner than it did in prelims I think? Still noticeable hip and knee form in the air and comes up a little low on the landing, but just has a small hop. 14.366 (5.6, 8.766)

14.216 average

10:37 am. Valentina Georgieva BUL VT: Yurchenko double full, so nice in the air, good amount of power, small hop back. 14.100 (5.0, 9.100)

Second vault is the Tsuk 1.5, also very clean, great landing, just a small bounce. 13.866 (4.8, 9.066)

13.983 average

10:30 am. Women are marching out for the vault final!

10:09 am. Men’s Floor Final Standings

1. Carlos Yulo, Philippines, 15.000
2. Artem Dolgopyat, Israel, 14.966
3. Jake Jarman, Great Britain, 14.933
4. Illia Kovtun, Ukraine, 14.533
5. Milad Karimi, Kazakhstan, 14.500
6. Luke Whitehouse, Great Britain, 14.466
7. Rayderley Zapata, Spain, 14.333
8. Zhang Boheng, China, 13.933

10:05 am. Luke Whitehouse GBR FX: Triple back! Small hop. Double front landed low but still good in terms of footing. Piked double front with a hop forward. Double full down the side. Double double, stuck cold! 2.5 to front layout, and then finishes with a triple full, tiny hop. Oh, it’ll be close I think…oh, they got him on those landings! 14.466 (6.3, 8.166)

10:01 am. Illia Kovtun UKR FX: Front full to double front, small hop. 3.5 was stuck! Lovely. Triple full, hop back. 2.5 to front layout, stuck. Triple full at the end was really strong. 14.533

9:58 am. Jake Jarman GBR FX: Triple double layout! Big hop back. 2.5 to double front, good. Triple double, small hop. Triple full down the side, loses control a bit going into the landing. Front full to randi, hop to the side. 3.5 with a hop. 14.933 (6.6, 8.333) – moves him to third place!

9:54 am. Milad Karimi KAZ FX: Randi down the side, hop back. Front full to piked double front, some knee form and a small hop. 2.5 to double front, great landing there! Double double, step back. Double full clean. Front double full to tucked barani, loooooovely! Triple full, chest down, step forward. 14.500 (6.3, 8.200)

9:53 am. Touch should be wrapping up shortly for the second half!

9:49 am. Zhang Boheng CHN FX: Piked double front goes OOB. 3.5 to barani with a step back. Randi with a hop forward. Double full clean down the side. 2.5 to front layout was clean. Triple full, hop back. 13.933 (6.1, 8.133, -0.3 ND)

9:44 am. Carlos Yulo PHI FX: 2.5 to piked double front, tucks his knees a bit and hops. Front double full to double front, big hop to the side. Full-twisting double layout, BEAUTIFUL, landing was great. Triple full down the side. Front full to randi, hop to the side. 3.5, stuck COLD!!!!! God his tumbling is what gymnastics is supposed to look like. Textbook. 15.000 (6.6, 8.400) – moves him to first!!!

9:40 am. Artem Dolgopyat ISR FX: Double twisting double layout, small hop back. Front full to piked double front, some minor leg form in the full but a good landing. 2.5 to double front with a hop forward. Front double full to front layout, little bounce. Double double, chest down and little steps forward. Arabian double front half, small hop. This was very strong. 14.966 (6.4, 8.566)

9:34 am. Rayderley Zapata ESP FX: 2.5 to double front, great landing. 1.5 to piked double front, deep landing but pretty solid in his footing. Double double layout, small hop. Front double full to front layout, really strong. Nailed the arabian double front half-out. Double layout, chest down and a small hop. Heel OOB. Excellent routine! Waiting for the score he’s like “QUE PASA?!” I’m dying, it’s taking forever. 14.333 (6.2, 8.233, -0.1 ND)

9:31 am. Touch warmup is underway!

  1. Is that really a rule in MAG? Brutal! Because Whitehouse landed deep on his connection into the double front, THEY DIDNT GIVE HIM THE CONNECTION? Thats what the commentator said. Ouch!

    • I heard that too. If that’s true that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard. I do think it must be true because they said he had one of the hardest routines out there and his start value was only 6.3 – which was low compared to the rest of the finals.

And here I thought the .5 deduction for someone standing by the vault landing was dumb. But this is a new level of insane.

      • Yeah, I think about it like connection value on beam elements where if you’re slow into the connection it’s not really connected? But in this case if you’re deep on a landing, you’re not really connecting from one skill to the other because you’re taking time to correct/adjust? But feels WAY more severe on floor in this case where there wasn’t really a “pause” or broken connection, if anything it’s like…harder to punch into the next skill from a low landing?! And kind of impressive when they can bust it out.

        • For some reason I thought the low landing was on the 2nd element but either way it’s still a ridiculous layering of deductions. I’m trying to go back to watch it again to see exactly what happened but the replay isn’t there yet. The Pommel replay is there but women’s value and men’s floor isn’t yet for some reason. Get it together Peacock!!

        • Peacock finally posted the replays from yesterday so I went back to watch Whitlock’s floor routine. The only tumbling pass with a low landing was a front double twist into a double front. It was the double front he landed low – so the 2nd element. Just stupid stupid stupid. His start value was .2 less than qualifying so it does look like he lost start value in addition to landing deductions on that. Sometimes I really hate gymnastics.
