Athletes Set for Final World Cup of the Season

Emil Soravuo

The final world challenge cup of the season is set to take place in Szombathely beginning tomorrow, where a handful of Olympians will make their returns to competition alongside a number of top athletes we didn’t get to see in Paris.

Always a great show-off meet for the Hungarians, we’ll see two 2024 Olympians representing the host country this year, including Krisztofer Meszaros on the MAG side and Greta Mayer on the WAG side. Other men expected to compete include Balzas Kiss, Botond Molnar, Benedek Tomcsanyi, and Szilard Zavory while the women’s team includes Hanna Kutasi, Lilla Makai, and Nikolett Szilagyi. The hosts will also send a few athletes to compete in exhibition spots, with Krisztian Balazs and Istvan Mentovai for MAG along with Luca Agnecz for WAG.

Most notable here is perhaps the return of Emil Soravuo, the Finnish athlete who won the bronze medal on floor at world championships in 2021 and was expected to be a top contender for an apparatus spot in Paris until an Achilles injury took him out of the running. This will be his first international competition since Euros in 2022, and he plans on competing a start value of 5.4, with his goal simply to go clean and make the final.

The competition will begin with qualifications on Friday, October 4, and will continue with finals over the weekend. The full list of competitors is below.
