7. Shi Cong, China, 13.100
8. Daniel Marinov, AIN (Russia), 12.566

6:44 am. Tsunogai Tomoharu JPN HB: Lovely Tak full, Tak half to Kolman, Cassina was clean, Liukin also strong, layout Tkachev, maybe slight hip bend, Quast, double-twisting double layout with a small step forward. This was great! 14.600 (6.1, 8.500)

6:41 am. Daniel Marinov RUS HB: Had a fall on the Kolman. The rest went well from what I saw, very clean throughout basically everything he does, big step back on the double-twisting double layout. 12.566 (4.8, 7.766)

6:38 am. Carlo Macchini ITA HB: Most aggressive swing before the Gaylord II, Cassina caught a bit close/elbows, Kolman is a little better, Tak full, perf Tak half to layout Gienger, Zou Li Min, dobule-twisting double layout, stuck on his toes with a big wobble. 14.266 (6.1, 8.166)

6:34 am. Shi Cong CHN HB: Tak full to layout Jaeger, lovely, Endo, Tak half to Kolman, Cassina, legs go a bit wild and I think cause his rotation to be off, hard fall. Rough day for him today. Back on for German giants to stalder, double twisting double layout, stuck. 13.100 (5.5, 7.500, +0.1)

6:32 am. Touch for the second half!

6:29 am. Hashimoto Daiki JPN HB: Tak full was a little late, Tak half, Kolman, Cassina, not bad on either, Liukin rotation looked off but he got it around, low layout Tkachev, feet kinda/almost scrape the bar, Quast, double-twisting double layout, stuck with windmill arms. 14.733 (6.2, 8.533) – moves him to second!

6:26 am. Milad Karimi KAZ HB: Tak half to Liukin, some form in the air, stalder layout Tkachev, big Cassina, caught a little close/awkwardly, big Kolman, Tak finished pretty well, double-twisting double layout with two big steps back. 14.366 (6.0, 8.366)

6:22 am. Joe Fraser GBR HB: Tak half to Kolman, really nice. Cassina is strong. Layout to straddle Tkachevs, success! Zou Li Min. Tak full was a bit late. Piked triple back, excellent, just a step forward. 14.700 (6.3, 8.400)

6:19 am. Brody Malone USA HB: Winkler is a bit low, Tak full, great Tak half to Liukin, Cassina, catch was maybe a bit late but form isn’t bad at all, Kolman, so far so good! Quast, double-twisting double layout, small hop back. 14.933 (6.4, 8.533)

6:12 am. Athletes are being introduced for high bar!

6:06 am. Women’s Floor Final Standings

1. Sugihara Aiko, Japan, 13.833
2. Ruby Evans, Great Britain, 13.666
3. Abigail Martin, Great Britain, 13.466
4. Sabrina Voinea, Romania, 13.466
5. Kishi Rina, Japan, 13.033
6. Dulcy Caylor, United States, 12.966
7. Denisa Golgota, Romania, 12.233
8. Giulia Perotti, Italy, 11.633

6:03 am. Dulcy Caylor USA FX: Gets the Memmel around, maybe a little overrotated. Double layout floats in the air but maybe too slow, ends up a little short, step back. Whip full through to double tuck to punch front, barely gets that tuck over, deep landing. Double wolf turn a bit iffy. Double pike is pretty good! Switch ring to tour jeté half. 12.966 (5.6, 7.366)

5:59 am. Sabrina Voinea ROU FX: Popa at the start. Whip to double layout to front tuck, KILLER pass. Double double, really deep buckled landing, hop out of it. Switch full. Full-in also a bit deep but better than the last. Double spin. Switch to tour jeté half. 13.466 (5.9, 7.566)

I’m PRETTY SURE she’s going to do an inquiry based on her reaction to that score.

5:55 am. Kishi Rina JPN FX: Double double, big step back but pretty good overall. Front layout to front double full, small hop. Triple wolf turn, gets a little stumbly in the last rotation but gets it around, then a Memmel with a slight bobble. 2.5 ends up really deep in the landing, hop back to keep it upright. Hit the leap series, switch ring half at the end was okay. Double pike, really short with a bit of a pop forward on the landing. 13.033 (5.8, 7.233)

5:51 am. Sugihara Aiko JPN FX: Double L turn. Good double layout, small hop back. 1.5 through to double tuck, clean in the air, hop forward. Oh, she is SERVING FACE right now in her choreo. Switch ring to tour jeté half, great split there. Memmel turn. 2.5 to front layout, her best of the comp! Excellent double pike. Crown final pose because YES she is THE queen. 13.833 (5.8, 8.033) – moves her to first!

5:49 am. Touch underway for the second half!

5:45 am. Giulia Perotti ITA FX: Double wolf turn, I love how low to the ground she is on that. Tucked full-in, really forward on the landing, punches forward but saves from a fall. Front layout through to double pike, clean in the air, hop back. Switch ring to split ring leap. Switch half, lovely! Double tuck, ugh, bounces back and sits it. 11.633 (4.9, 6.733)

5:41 am. Denisa Golgota ROU FX: Double layout with major leg separation but gets the landing and punches to a front tuck, okay queen! Switch full. Tucked full-in, some leg form and a hop. Double tuck with a hop back. Switch ring to oh no, went for a tour jeté half but got it like an inch off the ground (hyperbole but it was unfortunately not cute). Popa to finish. Ugh, she looks so disappointed about that leap. 12.233 (4.9, 7.333)

5:37 am. Abigail Martin GBR FX: Full-twisting double layout, minor soft knees and steps back out of it. Think a Popa after that? Floaty double layout, small hop. Switch full to switch half. Kinda rough out of the double wolf turn. Front layout full through to double tuck, great! 13.466 (5.8, 7.666)

5:33 am. Ruby Evans GBR FX: Front layout to randi, minor crossed ankles and a tiny hop back but I love that pass SO MUCH. Front full to front double full, small hop back. Tour jeté half to switch full, the latter not quite there. GREAT double layout, small hop. 2.5 wolf turn, clean double tuck with a hop back. SUPERSTAR! 13.666 (5.9, 7.766)

5:26 am. Athletes are being introduced for the WAG floor final!

5:23 am. Parallel Bars Final Standings

1. Zou Jingyuan, China, 15.300
2. Tsunogai Tomoharu, Japan, 14.500
3. Daniel Marinov, AIN (Russia), 14.466
4. Angel Barajas, Colombia, 14.366
5. Donnell Whittenburg, United States, 14.233
6. Vladislav Poliashov, AIN (Russia), 13.966
7. Oka Shinnosuke, Japan, 13.300
8. Shi Cong, China, 13.100

5:21 am. Vladislav Poliashov RUS PB: Some form issues on the first pirouette and the next THREE were really short and rushed, straddle front and a double front half dismount, stuck. That routine was like five seconds long. Also just not what he wanted to do I’m sure. 13.966 (5.4, 8.466, +0.1 B)

5:17 am. Shi Cong CHN PB: Pike sit with a clean press to handstand, double back to his arms, nice. Makuts took a minute on the single rail and then didn’t finish in handstand, fell out of it. Oop. Another double salto, Bhavsar, stuck the dismount. 13.100 (5.3, 7.800)

5:13 am. Oka Shinnosuke JPN PB: Front pike to handstand fully arches over and he loses it, muscles it back up. Next elements go well including the Makuts, straddle front kinda misses the catch and lands on an elbow, doesn’t really mess with him though, Bhavsar, muscled slightly on a handstand after, Tippelt mostly good, tiniest adjustment after the catch, double front half dismount with a hop back. Rough but fought through. 13.300 (5.3, 8.000)

5:09 am. Angel Barajas COL PB: Makuts was nice, makes the single rail handstand with a full pirouette out, nice, another transition to the single rail that went well but two pirouettes that followed had noticeable sway in his back that he had to kinda fight to handstand, piked double front dismount with steps. 14.366 (6.1, 8.266)

5:06 am. Touch for the second half is underway!

5:02 am. Zou Jingyuan CHN PB: Pike sit pressed to handstand, lovely. Makuts with a half turn, then full pirouette, actually a tiny bit short there, front pike to single rail transition, straddle front, massive Bhavsar, Tippelt was smooth af, beautiful double front half, kinda sticks but windmills his arms. 15.300 (6.0, 9.300)

4:59 am. Tsunogai Tomoharu JPN PB: Lovely handstand to start, half turn perfection, Makuts with a pause but clean, half turn before a half pirouette to the single rail and back, adjustment there, one-arm pirouette and then a straddle front, Bhavsar, Tippelt, caught that really well but had a slight pause before the handstand, double front half, chest down and a hop. Mostly great! 14.500 (5.8, 8.700)

4:55 am. Donnell Whittenburg USA PB: Well, well, well, if it isn’t a WORLD CHAMPION. Front pike up to handstand, doesn’t hold long enough I don’t think, just a quick transition out, then had some form on the turn after. Moves on to his salto skills, all have a lot of power, especially good on the straddle front, I think he had three different saltos, gets the double front half with a wobble, kinda falls over sideways a bit but fights to keep it on his feet. 14.233 (5.8, 8.433)

4:52 am. Daniel Marinov RUS PB: Some form on the pike half to handstand, mostly good in the Tippelt after. Bhavsar, minor adjustments in the half turn out, full pirouette went well but then a pirouette with a transition to the single rail had a pause and some adjustments, full-twisting double tuck dismount with a small step. Mostly a hit. 14.466 (5.9, 8.566)

4:45 am. Athletes are being introduced for p-bars!

4:42 am. Looks like p-bars should be starting shortly! They just awarded Ellie Black with the Paris 2024 Fair Play Award and now it looks like they’re getting ready to transition over to the competition again.

4:28 am. Medal ceremonies are underway for vault and beam! I’ll be back in like…20 minutes? I don’t know when p-bars is supposed to start.

4:22 am. Balance Beam Final Standings

1. Zhang Qingying, China, 15.166
2. Kaylia Nemour, Algeria, 14.300
3. Sugihara Aiko, Japan, 14.166
4. Flavia Saraiva, Brazil, 13.900
5. Ellie Black, Canada, 13.600
6. Amanda Yap, Singapore, 13.333
7. Sabrina Voinea, Romania, 12.533
8. Dulcy Caylor, United States, 11.800

4:18 am. Zhang Qingying CHN BB: Switch leap mount to switch half to Korbut, great connections. Great roundoff layout to split jump. Switch ring to bhs, lovely. Switch half to cross straddle to back loop, SO GOOD. Switch leap to split jump half to split 3/4, love that. Full turn. Double pike, step back. Incredible. 15.166 (6.9, 8.266)

4:13 am. Sabrina Voinea ROU BB: Roundoff layout full, little movement on the landing. Switch to split jump. Misses the bhs layout, kinda splits the beam with her feet before coming off. Overrotates the double spin. Front aerial and side aerial both hit. Switch half to bhs, maybe a little slow to connect? Double tuck with a step back. 12.533 (5.8, 6.733)

4:08 am. Amanda Yap SGP BB: Switch leap mount to switch half, little wobble there. Switch ring, tiny check. Bhs to back pike is super solid. Clean full turn. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, excellent. Fantastic punch front. 1.5 with a step forward. QUEEN! 13.333 (5.4, 7.933)

4:05 am. Dulcy Caylor USA BB: Hit the mount and the bhs loso loso series. Side aerial had a kind of weird landing. Switch to straddle jump. Front aerial to split jump to Korbut. Stands up out of the double wolf turn and wobbles. Missed her foot going into the double pike dismount and can’t get it fully around, drops forward and has to put her hands down sadly. 11.800 (5.0, 6.900, -0.1 ND)

3:58 am. Kaylia Nemour ALG BB: Hit the layout stepout mount right into a layout stepout. Bhs bhs layout, tiny bounce as she lands it. Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, a little short in the latter. Switch leap to switch half, a little slow to connect but not bad. Side aerial is clean. Plays it safe with a full wolf turn today hahaha. She has learned. Double pike, chest down and she had two big steps back on the landing but overall a really strong set! 14.300 (6.2, 8.100) – WOW! Moves her to first!

3:53 am. Ellie Black CAN BB: Swtich leap mount to switch half, some leg form and a tiny pause before the Korbut. Double spin to full spin, nice! Minor adjustments after both. Gets the jump series. Punch front tuck, powerful, tiny bounce. Tick tock into the layout series, little bobble. Side somi. Had a weird little wobble in her dance after. Unrelated to the routine but this leo color is gorgeous. 2.5 dismount, slight form in the air, little steps back into the salute. Really strong set from her! 13.600 (5.8, 7.800)

3:48 am. Sugihara Aiko JPN BB: Switch leap mount to split ring leap to Korbut to start, really nice connections! Front aerial to split jump to straddle jump, very clean. Super solid bhs loso. Full Y turn, minor adjustment. Side aerial. She is LOCKED IN. Switch ring, actually kinda gorgeous in the air and absorbs the landing well. Nearly sticks the double pike?! GIRL! 14.166 (6.0, 8.166) – moves her past Saraiva!

3:44 am. Flavia Saraiva BRA BB: Hit the back handspring mount with a small adjustment, also a little dance adjustment out of the full turn. Bhs loso, really clean, slight check at the end. Switch ring, we had a terrible angle for that but I’m sure it was perfect. Front aerial to split ring jump to back handspring, gorgeous. Wobble/chest down on the side somi. Split leap to split jump. Small step on the double pike. IS SHE GOING TO WIN A BEAM MEDAL AFTER TEN YEARS???????????? 13.900 (5.7, 8.200)!

3:40 am. Athletes are doing the touch warmup for beam now!

3:36 am. Men’s Vault Final Standings

1. Carlos Yulo, Philippines, 14.866
2. Artur Davtyan, Armenia, 14.833

6. Mukhammadzhon Yakubov, AIN (Russia), 14.183
7. Daniel Marinov, AIN (Russia), 14.150
8. Minami Kazuki, Japan, 13.749

3:31 am. Artur Davtyan ARM VT: Stuck Dragulescu OF COURSE. Chest maybe horizontal on the landing but overall this was phenomenal as usual. 14.800 (5.2, 9.500, +0.1 B)

Second vault is a gorgeous stuck handspring randi OF COURSE. WELL THAT WILL DO IT FOR THE PODIUM! 14.866 (5.2, 9.566, +0.1 B)

Averages a 14.833 which puts him just 0.033 behind Yulo for silver!

3:27 am. Nazar Chepurnyi UKR VT: Dragulescu, really solid overall, the best in terms of chest height on the landing so far today, tiny hop on the landing, just the knee separation in the air for me. 14.466 (5.2, 9.266)

Kas double full was excellent! Minor leg form at times, just slightly crossed ankles and soft knees, but great on the landing, small bounce. 14.500 (5.2, 9.300)

Averages a 14.483, gets him to second place just 0.017 ahead of Brugnami!

3:23 am. Huang Mingqi CHN VT: Handspring randi, absolutely INCREDIBLE power, mostly really nice in the air, even flairs the landing a bit, but comes down hard for the landing and is still kind of rotating into the mat, really big step back to control it. 14.366 (5.2, 9.166)

Next up is a Yurchenko triple full, also very clean in the air, also flared, better in the rotation control this time but still has a pretty big hop back. 14.466 (5.2, 9.266)

Averages a 14.416, which pushes him past Yakubov but just behind Brugnami, currently third!

3:19 pm. Mukhammadzhon Yakubov RUS VT: Handspring randi, pretty nice in the air! A bit of pike coming off the table but straightens up really quickly. Minor ankle and knee form. Chest forward and a hop back. 14.300 (5.2, 9.100)

Second vault is a Dragulescu, tries to stick but he’s too far forward on the landing, chest far down and a big hop forward. 14.066 (5.2, 8.866)

Averages a 14.183, currently third but likely to be overtaken.

3:13 am. Minami Kazuki JPN VT: Ugh, doesn’t fully rotate the Kas double full, starts out nice but loses form quickly and ends up a bit short in the twist AND has a really deep landing, sadly can’t keep it on his feet, falls over to the side and puts his hand down. 13.133 (5.2, 7.933)

Then a beautiful stuck Shewfelt, awwww, that was so good. 14.366 (4.8, 9.466, +0.1 B)

Averages a 13.749.

3:09 am. Carlos Yulo PHI VT: Piked handspring double front half, GORGEOUS in the air until the twist where he softens his knees slightly, chest down on the landing but feet do not move! 15.200 (5.6, 9.500, +0.1)

Second vault is a handspring randi, also just gorgeous, minor crossed legs, tiniest bounce on the landing and his chest is forward but doesn’t look super severe. 14.533 (5.2, 9.333)

Averages a 14.866!!!

3:05 am. Daniel Marinov RUS VT: Kas double full, nice in the air, big lunge back and then kind of slides into that landing with another bouncy step. Minor form in the air but like…really minor. 14.300 (5.2, 9.100)

Dragulescu, cowboyed in the air mostly in the second flip, lands with a bit of a jolt, he’s fully bent in half with his chest against his thighs basically, big step back to control. 14.000 (5.2, 8.800)

Averages a 14.150.

3:01 am. Tommaso Brugnami ITA VT: Yurchenko triple full, big step back to control it, but form in the air is mostly REALLY strong. Very good vault. 14.366 (5.2, 9.166)

THEN HE STICKS THE KAS DOUBLE!!! Oh, a STATEMENT. Minor leg separation on the preflight but then fantastic in the air. 14.566 (5.2, 9.266, +0.1 B)

Averages a 14.466.

2:58 am. She’s awake and thriving and ready for the final day of worlds! Starting with men’s vault in just a couple of minutes!

  1. Ok did Sabrina submit inquiry?? Didn’t show on BBC. But also didn’t see the GB girls reaction. That was stressful. Thanks as always for excellent coverage!

  2. As a Romania fan, it is often disappointing during major competitions. Here, floor was where both Sabrina and Denisa could medal, with the former potentially getting gold. There’s also, again, the beam frustration for Sabrina. But I guess I have come to learn how to manage expectations with them, what’s with the frequency of these disappointments. I might have even already anticipated what eventually happened with both Denisa and Sabrina in these finals. Maybe I am coming to accept that with Romania, I’d just settle with the knowledge that they have the potential and all, but that such abilities will not always be rewarded with medals, more often so than they’d get medals. Still love them though.

    • I love watching them! the Denisa comeback has been my favourite thing in gymnastics this year. One day it will all come together for them I am sure!

    • Don’t give up on your gymnasts just yet! I don’t know much about Denisa but in regards to Sabrina, she’ still young and improving, she’ll get a mejor medal in no time. Her leaps went from hardly 180 to very good 180 in one year. Her toe point and artistry are also improving. She scored 7.5 in execution here. I think she is judged a bit harshly sometimes (perhaps because I find her tumbling so satisfying to watch), and event though it’s not worlds or olympics she has won medals in euros.
