ROTATION 4

3:51 pm. Ellie Black CAN FX: Front layout full through to double tuck, small hop. Popa to wolf jump full, slay! 2.5 (some form in the air) through to double full, step back OOB. Wolf hop to switch full. Rudi with some leg form and a small hop to the side. EEEEE! She needs above a 12.6 to take the lead. 12.750 will do it!

3:49 pm. Naveen Daries RSA VT: Yurchenko full, pikes it down quite a bit but lands it well! 12.800

3:46 pm. Ruby Evans WAL FX: Double layout, nice in the air! Hop back. Front layout to front double full, also excellent. Hop forward. Tour jeté half through to switch full, some form in the latter. Front full to front full, hop to the side. Has to significantly hop the double wolf turn around. Double tuck with a hop back to finish. 12.950

Sadly walks off the floor in tears. She doesn’t have a podium shot after beam.

3:45 pm. Crystelle Lake SCO VT: Yurchenko 1.5, slight knee form in the air, a bit low on the landing and she ends up a bit seated, but is able to hop back up out of it. 13.100

3:42 pm. Breanna Scott AUS FX: Double layout, a little short on the landing with a big bounce. Front tuck through to double full goes well, and the leap series after is lovely. Gets the triple wolf turn around well. Full Y turn, switch half. Double pike with a step back. 12.800

Takes over the lead by just one tenth ahead of Fontaine!

3:41 pm. Zelmé Daries RSA VT: Yurchenko full, some soft body line form in the air but solid overall. Just a small bounce on the landing. 12.700

3:39 pm. Georgia Godwin AUS FX: Triple wolf turn. Front layout to big double front, a bit cowboyed and lands fully OOB with a hop. Tour jeté half through to switch half. Front full to front full to stag. Good Popa. Strong double tuck with a small hop to finish. 12.700

3:38 pm. Courtney McGregor NZL VT: Strong Yurchenko 1.5! Minor soft knees in the air and a hop forward but solid overall. 13.350

3:35 pm. Touch for the second half of the final rotation!

3:34 pm. Yeap Lang Xian MAS VT: Clean Yurchenko full, little bounce, she doesn’t look thrilled about it but I think it was pretty nice! Could just use a bit more power. Who couldn’t?! 12.900

3:30 pm. Lia Monica Fontaine CAN FX: Double double with a big step back OOB. Slightly off-balance as well. Double L turn. Strong double layout with a great landing. Triple full to full turn. Switch leap to switch half. Front tuck through to double tuck, two little steps back. QUEEN. 13.150

That’s half a tenth lower than what she scored last night. Ellie Black will need above a 12.5 on floor to surpass her teammate, which is absolutely doable.

3:29 pm. Cadence Teh Zi Qi MAS VT: Tsuk tuck full, could use a stronger block but gets it around well enough, minor form in the air, and a small step to the side on the landing. 12.000

3:26 pm. Abigail Martin ENG FX: Powerful full-twisting double layout, lands OOB with a step back as well. Double layout, a little short with a hop back. Fun little piqué turn sequence before her leap series. Front full through to double tuck, short with a big punch forward but yanks her hands back to keep from putting them down, great save. 12.600

Just a 48.800 for her in the all-around, really rough day for her from start to finish. It’s exhausting to go from a team final last night to an all-around final 24 hours later!

3:25 pm. Ellee Cheetham SCO VT: Big and gorgeous Yurchenko full! Almost able to flare it out. Lunge back. 13.050

3:23 pm. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah ENG FX: Whip full through to double tuck, small hop back. Memmel to stag ring jump full, love. Front layout full to stag, basically runs right into the switch ring to tour jeté half. Clean double pike, hop forward. Love the slide into the split in her ending pose. 13.050

3:21 pm. Philippa Busuttil MLT VT: Yurchenko back pike, step back. Not bad in the air. 11.600

3:19 pm. Amanda Yap SGP FX: Clean double pike, small hop. Nice tour jeté half. Front tuck through to double full, ugh, comes up short and lands on her knees. Switch ring to switch half. Split jump full. Good double wolf turn. Clean double tuck with a hop back. 10.900

3:17 pm. Alena Tan SGP VT: Tsuk tuck full, not a ton of air from her block but gets it around well enough with a hop. 12.500

3:15 pm. Emily Roper WAL FX: Nice work on the wolf turn at the start. Piked full-in, minor form in the air, small hop back. Front full is a bit sketchy in the air, punches into another front full but doesn’t have the juice for this, sits it. Ugh, she was so close. Great on the leap series. Switch full into the corner before the double tuck. Random fan kick, my fave, I have an inside joke about fan kicks and how good I am at them so I appreciate it in this choreo. Sad about her fall. 11.200

3:12 pm. Moving into the final rotation now!

ROTATION 3

3:11 pm. Standings

1. Ellie Black, Canada, 40.300
2. Breanna Scott, Australia, 40.100
3. Lia Monica Fontaine, Canada, 39.650
4. Emily Roper, Wales, 39.150

7. Ruby Evans, Wales, 37.900
8. Yeap Kang Xian, Malaysia, 36.800

3:07 pm. Ruby Evans WAL BB: Punch front mount, big break at the hips but holds on. Gets the wolf turn, switch to split jump to straddle jump, minor form. Switch half to Korbut. Got the bhs loso. Noooooo, off on the double spin! Front aerial. Had a big hop back on the double full dismount. 10.950

She had an hour and 20 minutes between bars and beam as the first up on bars and last up on beam. That seems…atrocious.

3:05 pm. Crystelle Lake SCO FX: Front layout to rudi, good! Fights to get the triple wolf turn fully around. 1.5 to front full, finishes really deep there and falls forward. Cowboyed in the double tuck but gets the landing. Nice switch half. 10.700

3:02 pm. Breanna Scott AUS BB: Switch leap mount to switch leap. Roundoff layout, some form in the air and a little short but gets it! Side aerial. Front aerial. Double wolf turn. Sissone to wolf jump. Punch front, little check. Double pike, chest down, hop forward. 13.900!

That moves her into second place just two tenths behind Ellie Black!

3:00 pm. Zelmé Daries RSA FX: Double wolf turn. 1.5 through to 2.5, nice! Hop forward. Front tuck through to double full, little bounce in place. Switch ring to switch half, good amplitude on those. Strong double pike. She’s a great tumbler. Split jump full. 12.200

2:58 pm. Georgia Godwin AUS BB: Switch leap mount, low back leg. Straddle jump to split jump. Side somi is good. Bhs back pike with a slight hop. Switch leap, little stumble. Clean side aerial. Double wolf turn. Double pike, chest down, step back. 12.500

2:56 pm. Courtney McGregor NZL FX: Obsessed with this floor music so much. It’s “God is a Woman” if you didn’t see it yesterday/previously. Memmel turn. Little bounce back after the double pike. Switch full. Split jump full. 1.5 to front layout with a small bounce. Switch leap to tour jeté half. Front full with a hop forward. Prayer pose to finish, perfection. 11.350

2:53 pm. Lia Monica Fontaine CAN BB: Little stumble on the loso mount. Super solid on the bhs loso loso. Switch half. Wobbled after that and then on the jump series. Korbut. Side aerial. Double wolf turn. Stuck the double tuck! 12.250

2:51 pm. Yeap Kang Xian MAS FX: Double wolf turn. Tour jeté half to Popa, good! Double pike with a hop back. Front layout full. Switch leap to switch half. Clean double tuck. 11.900

2:48 pm. Touch for the second half now underway!

2:46 pm. Abigail Martin ENG BB: Back dive mount. Double wolf turn. Side aerial. Solid on the bhs loso loso! Switch to split jump half, a little short with a wobble. Hit a split jump to wolf jump after that as well. Front aerial, break at the hips. Switch half, a bit short. Double pike, hop back. Yay, a hit! 11.650

2:44 pm. Cadence Teh Zi Qi SGP FX: Split jump full. Double wolf turn. Clean double tuck, chest down. Front handspring to a mostly clean front layout full, small hop. Double L turn to full spin. Split ring leap to switch ring, lovely. Good double full with a bounce back. 11.800

2:41 pm. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah ENG BB: Switch leap mount, slightly low back leg. Clean side aerial and switch leap to split jump. Solid bhs loso, very tidy as well. Punch front, a little deep but fine! Grabs the beam on the double wolf turn, ugh! Gainer full dismount, small hop. 12.200

2:39 pm. Ellee Cheetham SCO FX: Triple wolf turn. Full-in lands low and the landing punches her forward onto her hands. Front tuck through to double full, good landing there. Switch leap to tour jeté half, Popa, looked good to me. Triple spin, could be a little more fluid but not bad! Good double tuck. 10.550

2:37 pm. Amanda Yap SGP BB: Switch leap mount, lovely. Switch half to split jump, slight bobble. Switch ring. Bhs back pike, step back. Controlled full turn. Front aerial, break at the hips and can’t fight through it, fall. Straddle jump to stag ring jump. Punch front tuck is good. 1.5 dismount with a hop. 11.950

2:34 pm. Philippa Busuttil MLT FX: Double wolf turn. Double tuck has a little stumble forward. 1.5 to front layout, some form and a little deep. Hop back. Popa. Switch ring to tour jeté half, mostly good. Fun headstand choreo. Switch half. Double full, a little buckled in the landing, hop forward. 10.450

2:32 pm. Emily Roper WAL BB: Layout stepout mount, lovely! Double wolf turn, falls forward but pulls back to stay on. Clean bhs loso. Cross straight jump full. Front aerial, little step. Split jump to straddle jump, minor foot form. Switch to switch half. Double tuck, deep with her chest at her knees, hop back, but this was lovely overall! 12.550

2:31 pm. Alena Tan SGP FX: Clean double pike, big step back. Popa, maybe slightly shy of the split. Clean double tuck. Switch leap to tour jeté half, lovely there. Triple wolf turn. Front tuck through to clean layout full, hop back. Good work! 11.700

2:29 pm. Ellie Black CAN BB: Switch leap mount, little bobble. Split half to straddle jump. Double spin, little pause but still kinda fluid to the full spin. Great punch front tuck. Tick tock to bhs loso, good! Side somi, medium wobble. 2.5 with a hop forward. 13.200

2:26 pm. Naveen Daries RSA FX: Triple wolf turn. Double pike, a little short, hop forward. Hit the middle pass which I think is a placeholder for when she’s feeling better (she was sick this week). Just did a tuck half through to a jump. Double full with a hop back. Hit the leap series pretty well. 11.400

2:23 pm. Moving into the touch warmups at the halfway point now!

ROTATION 2

2:22 pm. Standings

1. Lia Monica Fontaine, Canada, 27.400
2. Ellie Black, Canada, 27.100
3. Ruby Evans, Wales, 26.950
4. Emily Roper, Wales, 26.600
5. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah, England, 26.300
6. Breanna Scott, Australia, 26.200
7. Georgia Godwin, Australia, 25.750
8. Crystelle Lake, Scotland, 25.600

2:20 pm. Breanna Scott AUS UB: Piked Jaeger, clean Pak, good handstand before the Shaposh to clear hip, a little short in the handstand before the blind full, minor ankle separation, full-twisting double layout with a hop into a little lunge. 13.100

2:18 pm. Zelmé Daries RSA BB: Switch mount to switch leap to switch half, stumble but stays on. Some form in the bhs loso which also ends up a bit short, fall. Double wolf turn. Standing back tuck. Had a big wobble on something after that, I missed what it was. Oh, it was choreo lol. Lord. Good double full dismount! 10.750

2:17 pm. Georgia Godwin AUS UB: Weiler half to Maloney to clear hip, Weiler to straddle Jaeger, Pak, toe-on to van Leeuwen, minor ankle form, blind full, double layout with a small hop. 12.850

2:14 pm. Courtney McGregor NZL BB: Switch leap to switch half. Bhs back pike, little stumble but saves it. Side aerial to split jump to wolf jump. Hit the front full dismount! 11.650

2:13 pm. Lia Monica Fontaine CAN UB: Toe full to Maloney to Gienger, good handstand before the blind change to straddle Jaeger, good Pak to van Leeuwen, just some leg form in the latter, HUGE stuck double layout! She’s on a mission! 13.100

2:10 pm. Yeap Kang Xian MAS BB: Hit the opening jump series and then a straddle jump full. Solid bhs loso. Tour jeté half is a bit short in split but rotation got around. Punch front tuck. Another superb jump series. Dobule pike, chest low, step back. Another fab set for Malaysia! 12.650

2:09 pm. Abigail Martin ENG UB: Toe full to Maloney with some leg separation to big Tkachev, caught close though, can’t muscle the handstand and has to pause on the bar. That same exact thing happened yesterday. Casts to front grip handstand, straddle Jaeger, Pak is rough, then also can’t get the toe-on to handstand, falls. Back on for van Leeuwen, full-in dismount, REALLY low, jumps up to salute. 10.950

2:07 pm. Cadence Teh Zi Qi MAS BB: Front handspring front tuck, good! Clean side aerial. Lovely switch ring but a wobble on the landing. Cross straddle jump to cross split jump to cross split jump half. Front aerial. Stag ring jump to Korbut. This is STUNNING. Full turn. Front full, excellent landing. WOW. 12.950

2:04 pm. Think we’re in the touch for the second half now!

2:02 pm. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah ENG UB: Endo to Endo half to Downie to Pak, leg separation in the Pak but great series overall. Stalder full goes a bit wild but calms down and gets it to the Chow, stalder half to double front, huge hop forward. Good fight in that set! 13.350

2:00 pm. Ellee Cheetham SCO BB: Back dive mount. Switch leap to split jump half, nowhere near the split on the latter I fear. Side aerial, slight break at the hips. Stands up while still turning in the double wolf turn, stumbles a bit, then has to crouch again to finish her choreo section. Good save! Gets the double spin with a slight overrotation. Comes up short at the end of the bhs bhs loso and can’t save that, fall. Back layout 1.5 for the dismount. 10.700

1:58 pm. Amanda Yap SGP UB: Blind change to nice piked Jaeger! Pak with some flexed feet. Toe half was short, but connects to toe-on to toe shoot, good handstand before the blind full, dismounts with a layout, clean, with a step into her salute. 11.450

1:56 pm. Philippa Busuttil MLT BB: Back handspring mount to back handspring, she’s a bit off in her angle and falls sadly. Was supposed to connect out of that as well. Gets the 2.5 wolf turn around. Love the back roll up to handstand, almost connects directly to the switch leap to split jump half, break at the hips and falls. Front aerial, wobble. Little check on the side aerial. Double full, chest down and a hop back. Rough set for her sadly. 9.650

1:54 pm. Emily Roper WAL UB: Toe full with minor akle form to Maloney to Pak, very clean on that. Also clean in the van Leeuwen. Blind change to straddle Jaeger went well. Basically sticks the full-in! Maybe the tiniest foot movement. 13.300

1:52 pm. Alena Tan SGP BB: Back dive mount. Full wolf turn. Step back on the standing back tuck, doesn’t connect to the back handspring but that was nice on its own. Punch front tuck is solid. Good side somi. Switch leap to split jump to straddle jump, a little shy of the split. Side aerial. Front pike dismount with a hop forward. She didn’t have an acro series with that missed connection so that’ll hurt her score but it was a lovely routine overall! 11.700

1:51 pm. Ellie Black CAN UB: Maloney to Shang, really high and close and catches close, Pak, Shaposh to clear hip half to Ezhova, nice work through that section. Minor leg separation on the van Leeuwen. Clean blind full, textbook tucked toe front half, great landing. 13.250

1:49 pm. Naveen Daries RSA BB: Hit the switch leap mount to jump series. Side aerial, switch half with a check. Bhs loso with a slight check as well. Switch leap. Double wolf turn, close call on the finish but wobbles and holds on. Layout full with a hop back. 12.300

1:48 pm. Ruby Evans WAL UB: Shaposh to Pak, good! Legs glued. Maloney to Gienger, a little low and some leg separation. Blind full with minor form to blind change to front giant to double front, big leap forward out of it but a hit routine! 12.850

1:46 pm. Crystelle Lake SCO BB: Had minor wobbles on the leap mount and a jump after IIRC. Got through the wolf turn. Bhs loso is very nice. ront aerial to split jump to straddle jump, nice toe point! Small break on the double spin. Slight check on the side aerial. 1.5 with a big hop forward. 12.350

1:42 pm. Moving to rotation two now!

ROTATION 1

1:41 pm. Standings

1. Lia Monica Fontaine, Canada, 14.300
2. Ruby Evans, Wales, 14.100
3. Ellie Black, Canada, 13.850
4. Abigail Martin, England, 13.600
5. Emily Roper, Wales, 13.300
6. Crystelle Lake, Scotland, 13.250
7. Breanna Scott, Australia, 13.100
8. Amanda Yap, Singapore, 13.000

1:38 pm. Courtney McGregor NZL UB: Toe full, a little late but not bad, Maloney to bail to toe shoot, good! Solid handstand before the blind change to straddle Jaeger, a bit too far to catch and she falls there. Layout dismount with a good landing. 10.800

1:37 pm. Georgia Godwin AUS VT: Tsuk full, don’t think it went the way she planned from the block because her knees were quite tucked and she usually does a 1.5? Hop back. 12.900

1:36 pm. Yeap Kang Xian MAS UB: Nice handstand before the toe full, leg separation and some arch, but connects to the Pak, Maloney to Gienger, a bit low but still clean on the latter. Blind change to front giant half. Dismounts with a full-in, hop back. 12.250

1:35 pm. Lia Monica Fontaine CAN VT: Yurchenko double full, pretty excellent! Big air and clean throughout, most notable is minor knee deductions in the second twist. Hop back. 14.300!

1:33 pm. Cadence Teh Zi Qi MAS UB: Endo half to Chow, doesn’t get the lift she needs and she knows it, drops down onto her feet. Back on and repeats it to connect to the Pak, Maloney to Gienger goes well, blind full, and a full-in dismount with a little bounce. 11.550

1:32 pm. Abigail Martin ENG VT: Yurchenko double full, noticeable crossed legs in the air and the landing isn’t quite as controlled as it could be, she’s still twisting a little and the landing is a bit jarring, hops back into a lunge to hold it. 13.600

1:30 pm. Ellee Cheetham SCO UB: Good handstand before the toe half (leg separation) to piked Jaeger, blind full with minor leg form, good on the Pak, Maloney to Gienger, leg separation before catching. Clean double tuck, a little too deep in the landing but she quickly hops up out of it. 11.700

1:29 pm. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah ENG VT: Yurchenko full, some pike down and the tiniest bit short when coming in for the landing but she still has a pretty good body position, just a bounce in place. 12.950

1:26 pm. Touch warmups for the second half now!

1:24 pm. Philippa Busuttil MLT UB: Maloney with some hip form, connects to Pak, good toe shoot, short handstand before the giant into the Gienger, some leg separation there upon catching, clear hip half finished slightly late and some elbow bend going back into handstand, clear hip full had some messy leg form, into the layout dismount, lots to deduct in there but good getting through it! 9.750

1:23 pm. Elena Tan SGP UB: Big Gienger, Pak is nice, toe shoot, blind full is a bit late, to layout dismount. 11.000

1:22 pm. Amanda Yap SGP VT: Mostly clean Yurchenko full, big hop back. 13.000

1:20 pm. Emily Roper WAL VT: Yurchenko full, really clean in the air, some minor pike down before the landing, which just had a small hop back. 13.300

1:18 pm. Naveen Daries RSA UB: Toe full to Maloney to Gienger, very nice! Blind change to straddle Jaeger, a little short on the handstand before the bail to toe shoot, just a layout dismount. Nice job. 12.600

1:17 pm. Ellie Black CAN VT: Tsuk 1.5, great block! Minor hip and knee form in the air, but lands well with a solid body position and just takes a step forward. 13.850

1:16 pm. Crystelle Lake SCO UB: Toe full was a little iffy, but gets it to the van Leeuwen, some leg separation there. Gets the straddle Jaeger and Pak (some foot form), Maloney to Gienger, leg separation before catching. Blind change to double front, great form in the air, step on the landing. 13.250

1:15 pm. Ruby Evans WAL VT: Yurchenko double full, really big on the block, mostly clean in the air, the most minor knee bend near the end, big hop back on the landing. 14.100

1:14 pm. Zelmé Daries RSA UB: Maloney with some leg separation, connects well to a Gienger. Toe half to lovely piked Jaeger! Bail, toe full, a little late but mostly clean, great handstand before the toe shoot, caught a bit close but no muscle out of it. Excellent double layout! Fantastic routine. 12.600

1:12 pm. Breanna Scott AUS VT: Lovely Yurchenko full, clean in the air, big hop back on the landing. 13.100

1:10 pm. Touch wrapping up shortly. We’ll get Breanna Scott up first on vault and Zelmé Daries up first on bars. I think with the two at a time format we’ll get to see every routine!

1:07 pm. Should be moving into touch warmups soon. I’d say closer to a 1:10 pm start time, maybe a couple of minutes later!

1:04 pm. Athletes are being introduced now!

1:01 pm. The broadcast has begun! Athletes should be introduced shortly and I’d guess we’ll see action around 1:08-1:10 pm ish after intros and touch warmups.

12:56 pm. The broadcast is set to start in about five minutes!

The only change from the qualification list is Zelmé Daries of South Africa in for teammate Caitlin Rooskrantz. Unfortunately Rooskrantz has been under the weather and thought it was best to skip today’s competition, but it will be fun to see Daries competing alongside her sister Naveen, who also qualified.

Live scores are here.

  1. Ellie!!! So happy for her and hope Abi and Ruby come back strong.

Thanks as always Lauren for live blogging. Been living through this as can’t watch live (or maybe at all due to TV rights).

Is it me or are the scores low? Am I wrong – have I just forgotten international scoring?! Realise it’s not the biggest comp but there are many established, top level athletes competing. Was it a difficult comp, or is it just pacing towards worlds / according to the comp?

    • Thank you!! I felt like scores were super low on day one and MAYBE a bit improved today, at least on some events…there were some vault scores in particular on day one where I was like there’s no way this solid, hit vault got an 8.3 E score??? One of them (Courtney McGregor’s) was like four tenths higher today for the same quality vault lol. I think judges were definitely being tough throughout. Definitely the international element vs. domestic as well I think, and probably more similar to what we’ll see at worlds. I also think most of the continental championships this year have been low-key insane with high scores (especially Asian Championships weirdly) so maybe we’re just used to things looking way higher than they should?

      • Thanks and I’m glad it wasn’t just me who thought it! Yeah maybe we’ve got used to the inflation? But I like being able to compare scores at least within a quad – not to your level sadly but it’s nice to have a general sense as a fan (nevermind the athletes/coaches!). Worlds will be interesting.

        • I totally agree! It’s so hard to compare. For example, if you don’t get to watch a beam routine but see that it had a 7.400 E score, there’s no way of knowing what that score means because at a US comp it would mean a fall from a good but not brilliant beam worker but at Commonwealth Games it’s like…one of the most stunning beam routines in the competition lol (I’m talking about Cadence Teh Zi Qi today). It’s basically impossible to know based on E scores alone how a routine went, and it makes following the sport so hard.

    • I felt like the scoring was pretty spot on. Just to think, only the AA medalists here would have qualified to the US Nationals on all events. Granted US domestic scoring is hilariously generous (to some).

That all said, it was an incredible competition and I loved every moment of it! The support fans gave there is amazing and so is the camaraderie!

      • Yeah, that’s true! I think the routines I’ve seen this year (mostly US and a few other domestic meets, but then also a bunch from Pan Ams and Asian Champs, maybe a few world cups as well) have all been given generous scores so that’s definitely giving me rose-colored E score glasses lol.
