RINGS & UNEVEN BARS FINALS

10:10 am. Natalia Escalera MEX UB: Blind change to straddle Jaeger, nice height. Big Tkachev to Pak, leg separation and she tucks her legs before brushing them on the mat. Maloney to Gienger, not bad there. Blind full to full-in dismount, a little deep but stuck. 11.950 (5.3, 6.650)

10:07 am. Angel Barajas COL SR: Maltese to iron cross, nice. Piked saltos to handstand, adjustment to get there. Back giant to handstand arches over quite a bit. Double double layout dismount, some hip and knee form, small hop back. 13.450 (5.2, 8.250)

10:06 am. Samantha Marin CRC UB: Blind change to straddle Jaeger. Clean Pak. Toe-on arches over a bit but controls it back to the Maloney, connects to Gienger but she’s really low and catches super close, that was rough and I have no idea how she kept going after that! Double tuck dismount was clean, solid landing, maybe a little bounce in place. 11.400 (4.8, 6.600)

10:05 am. Francisco Velez PUR SR: Roll through to maltese, lovely. Out to iron cross, very nice there as well. Roll thorugh to planche, then back giant to handstand, tiniest adjustment. Roll through to maltese. Front giant to handstand, good control again! Sticks the double double! Okay, slay. 13.850 (5.1, 8.650)

10:04 am. Rachel Rodriguez CRC UB: Good straddle Jaeger and Ray to Pak! All looked pretty nice. Leg form on the van Leeuwen was significant I’d say. Clear hip to blind full, not bad, and a clean stuck double tuck. Great work! 12.350 (4.7, 7.650)

10:03 am. Mario Taperio GUA SR: Maltese was mostly good, minor form things. Swing through to planche, maybe doesn’t hold it quite long enough. First handstand goes well, front pikes to handstand also not bad, maybe slightly shaky. Big jump back on the dismount. Mostly solid work! 12.450 (4.4, 8.050)

10:01 am. Brithany Herrera GUA UB: Toe-on to Maloney doesn’t get any backswing really but still connects to a Gienger, a bit low. Muscles around a pirouette halfway but can’t get it completely around, hops off. Back on for a blind change to straddle Jaeger, bail with leg separation to toe shoot, I think she pikes too much in her swing which does her a disservice. Double tuck dismount is good. 10.400 (4.7, 5.700)

10:00 am. Jose Lopez PUR SR: Strong maltese, rolls through to another maltese, then rolls through to iron cross, maybe a weird shoulder angle there. Back giant to handstand is a little unsteady, front is better. Swings through to iron cross. Double double dismount with a hop back. 12.850 (5.0, 7.850)

9:59 am. Victoria Mata MEX UB: Blind change to straddle Jaeger, good toe point! Ray to Pak, some leg separation in the latter. Van Leeuwen also has some leg separation. Blind full looked clean, to full-in, minor form in the air and a small hop but very nice overall! 12.950 (5.0, 7.950)

9:56 am. Ariel Villalobos CRC SR: Maltese down to iron cross, very nice. Pulls up from inverted hang back to iron cross. Back giant to handstand with some arch, good front double pikes to handstand, a little more stable in that one, dismount had a low chest and a hop forward. 13.200 (4.9, 8.300)

9:55 am. Keyla Leyva CUB UB: Nice handstand before the toe-on to toe half to straddle Jaeger. Clear hip to blind full with minor form, bail to toe shoot, full-out dismount with a hop back, she’s pumped about that! 12.000 (4.6, 7.400)

9:54 am. Camilo Vera COL SR: Maltese angle is wild and he doesn’t hold it at all. Inverted planche was much better. Iron cross. Pull up to pike sit, rolls into piked staltos to handstand, takes him a second to get there and wobbles a bit, then muscles up the back giant to handstand. Think he has a double double layout dismount, hop back, but he’s gonna lose a lot on most of his skills. 12.000 (4.3, 7.700)

9:52 am. Analis Perez DOM UB: Blind change to HUGE straddle Jaeger. Bail with some leg separation. Clear hip to toe-on to toe shoot, nice work! Blind full to a clean layout dismount. 11.550 (4.1, 7.450)

9:51 am. Cristian Ramirez MEX SR: Maltese down to iron cross, clean. Tucked saltos to iron cross, not bad! The rest went well but he had a big stumble back on the full-twisting double layout dismount. 12.450 (4.7, 7.750)

9:50 am. Ana Gabriela Gutierrez PAN UB: Shaposh, looks nice but she doesn’t quite grasp the bar and flies off. Does it again and gets it to Pak, some form in the latter. Toe full was mostly nice, Maloney to a nice big Gienger, blind change to straddle Jaeger, full-in dismount had some leg form in the tuck and a hop on the landing. She overall looks REALLY nice on this apparatus and I feel like this could’ve been on the podium without the fall, very unfortunate. 11.200 (5.4, 5.800)

9:49 am. Juan Pablo Porras MEX SR: Opens out to an iron cross to start, then tucked saltos to iron cross, nice on both. Pulls up to a pike sit, clean press to handstand, arches over a bit but pulls back to hold it well. Arched over the back giant to handstand significantly and then the front as well. Double double dismount with a step. 12.200 (4.2, 8.000)

9:47 am. I got home late and had to sleeeeep so now here we are with the continuation of yesterday’s finals.

POMMEL HORSE & WAG VAULT FINALS

6:17 pm. Melissa Fernandez DOM VT: Yurchenko full, minor form in the air, not super powerful but not bad! 13.000 (4.2, 8.800)

Tsuk layout for the second vault, some form in the air (piked down a bit most noticeably). 12.300 (3.4, 8.900)

12.650 average.

6:16 pm. Argenis Castañeda CUB PH: Also couldn’t type quickly enough for this one, it started so fast after vault, but this was a solid hit! Could use a little more hip extension to be picky but no glaring errors at all here. 12.800 (4.3, 8.500)

6:14 pm. Natalia Escalera MEX VT: Yurchenko 1.5, the tidiest of those we’ve seen! Nice stretch for the most part, just gets a little soft in the last half twist. Solid landing, small hop. 13.700 (4.6, 9.100)

Second vault is a Tsuk layout full, nice air, but pikes down a bit there. Hop back. 13.300 (4.4, 8.900)

13.500 average, ties her teammate! But she wins on the tie-break (higher single vault total).

6:12 pm. Diorges Escobar CUB PH: Wasn’t typing for this one but he hit everything I saw, dismount looked like it was maybe short? 12.600 (4.3, 8.300)

6:10 pm. Victoria Mata MEX VT: Handspring front tuck 1.5, tucked her legs a little too early/before blocking, but her tuck form is mostly nice in the air, minor leg separation, small hop back on the landing. 13.300 (4.6, 8.700)

Clean and BIG Yurchenko full! Hop back but this was VERY nice. 13.300 (4.2, 9.100)

13.500 average moves her into the lead!

6:09 pm. Nelson Guilbe PUR PH: Excited for him! Scissors to circles, clean. Sohn, single pommel circles, moves between levels well, some Russians, travels nicely, good extension throughout for the most part, loses his leg form into the dismount, but recovers nicely and hits! 14.050 (5.3, 8.750)

6:07 pm. Yamilet Peña DOM VT: Yurchenko 1.5, a little soft in her body line from hips to knees, but really solid and powerful overall! A couple of steps forward. 13.150 (4.6, 8.550)

Up next is a handspring front layout half, looked quite a bit tighter in the air, hop on the landing. Solid performance! 12.550 (4.0, 8.550)

13.050 average moves her to second place.

6:05 pm. Isaac Nuñez MEX PH: Scissors with nice extension, to handstand, good. Moves well in his circles right away, then into flairs at the end of the horse, travels in circles featuring a lil Russian moment, really had to push and then rush the dismount but gets it around. 12.750 (4.4, 8.350)

6:02 pm. Touch is underway for the second half!

6:00 pm. Jahzara Ranger JAM VT: Yurchenko 1.5, lots of power, only minor form in the air, hop forward but I couldn’t tell how big it was from the angle I saw. Good vault! 13.450 (4.6, 8.850)

Second vault is a tsuk layout with a hop back, again shows solid power and form here, the most minor pike down, and has a hop back. 12.800 (3.8, 9.000)

13.125 average to take the lead at the halfway point!

5:58 pm. Juan Pablo Porras MEX PH: Scissors to circles on both handles, then moves to the single, Russians there, then Russians between the handles, legs go awry slightly but he’s able to get back under control before traveling, that goes well, minor form into the dismount, good hit! 12.900 (4.8, 8.100)

5:56 pm. Ana Lucia Beitia PAN VT: Tsuk layout full, pretty powerful, some leg separation onto the table that was very noticeable, slightly piked down on the landing, medium hop back. 13.300 (4.4, 8.900)

Yurchenko full, again with the leg form on the pre-flight but also pretty nice overall, smaller hop back this time. 12.650 (4.2, 8.450)

12.975 average.

5:55 pm. Camilo Vera COL PH: Scissors to handstand down to scissor into the flairs, moves well here, then into the Russians in between the pommels, travels in Russians, then travels forward and back in flairs, so far so good! Seamless up into the dismount, this was very good! 13.250 (5.1, 8.150)

No idea what the penalty was for tbh.

5:53 pm. Alyiah Lide de Leon PAN VT: Yurchenko full, pretty clean in the air, almost no pike down on the landing, big hop back though. 13.050 (4.2, 8.850)

Next up is a Yurchenko half-on front tuck, the block isn’t quite there but she still gets it around, iffy on the landing. 11.850 (3.8, 8.350, -0.3 ND)

12.650 average.

5:52 pm. Yan Zabala COL PH: Got a little stuck in the handstand out of the scissors, hesitates before coming back down, swing on the single pommel is nice and clean though, Sohn goes well, Russians between the handles also good! Travels get a bit wild in his legs on the Russians,  but he fixes himself and goes well into the flairs to complete his traveling, break at the hips going into the handstand for his dismount but is able to push up and get through it. 12.750 (5.3, 7.450)

5:48 pm. Maria Mancia ESA VT: Tsuk layout full, still twisting a little bit on the landing so could benefit from a bit more control, big step back. Glad to see her in this final after she withdrew from the all-around mid-competition yesterday! 12.750 (4.4, 8.350)

Second vault is a handspring front pike, ends up a little low there and has to take a big step off to the side, OOB/off the mat. 11.450 (3.8, 7.950, -0.3 ND)

12.300 average.

5:46 pm. Jaycko Bourdet GUA PH: Scissors to circles go well, Some single handle work, legs come pretty far apart on the Russians on the pommel, but pulls it together and gets his rhythm back until he starts moving down the horse, loses his leg form again and comes off this time. Back on to travel, solid there, dismount had to be slightly rushed at the end but was nice overall! 11.900 (5.1, 6.800)

5:43 pm. Touch warmups are underway!

5:40 pm. Athletes are being introduced for vault and pommel horse!

I have to bounce at 6:15 pm but thankfully should be able to see most of this final, though possibly not all.

5:35 pm. I think the next final is supposed to start at 5:45 pm, not sure if they’ll wait the 10 minutes or just go for it now but check back soon!

5:30 pm. Jorge Vega GUA FX: Front full to piked double front, excellent! Hop forward but overall strong. Double double layout, STUCK, OKAY??? 2.5 to front layout down the side. Full-in double layout, great landing. Floated the double layout at the end. THIS WAS A SLAAAAAAY!!!! 14.200 (5.7, 8.500)

5:27 pm. Diorges Escobar CUB FX: Front full to double front is strong! Double double up next, biiiiig bounce back out of that landing. 2.5 down the side, some leg form and a hop forward. Front double full to front layout, tiny bounce. Full-in, slips on the landing and almost catches himself but ends up putting his hands down sadly! 11.900 (5.0, 6.900)

5:25 pm. Isaac Nuñez MEX FX: Front full to double front, noticeably cowboyed. Arabian double front form was nice though! Double full down the side, tried to hold the stick but wobbled a bit and jumped back. 2.5 to front layout, big hop forward. Clean double pike, another ALMOST stick, but he’s a little too far forward on his toes and hops. 13.150 (4.9, 8.25)

5:22 pm. Francisco Velez PUR FX: Powerful piked double front and then also tucked double front, sticks the double full down the side with his chest a bit forward. 2.5 to front layout, a little arched in the latter, hop forward. Kinda nice arabesque scale! Solid double layout to finish, minor form in the air. 13.150 (4.9, 8.250)

5:20 pm. Touch for the second half is underway!

5:17 pm. Camilo Vera COL FX: Double double layout, a bit deep but holds onto the landing. Front double full to double front, big hop forward, CASUAL. Punch randi down the side. Good 2.5 to front layout. Ends with a double double. Needs a BIT more control but appreciate the difficulty and he’s so fun to watch. 13.750 (5.7, 8.050)

5:14 pm. Jose Lopez PUR FX: Front layout to piked double front, nice air! Hop forward. Front full to double front, also REALLY strong. 2.5 down the side with a little bounce on the landing. Arabian double front and then a VERY clean double pike, big and kind of wild bounce back, though a fab routine overall. 13.200 (5.1, 8.100)

5:11 pm. Jaycko Bourdet GUA FX: Set out of the front full didn’t give him enough lift for the double front, which he sits. Gets the piked double front after, though, and then a clean, stuck double full down the side. Nice on the 2.5 to front layout. Strong double layout at the end, minor form and a hop back. 12.350 (5.0, 7.350)

5:08 pm. Thomas Mejia COL FX: Front full to double front, a little short but hops it and is fine. Ugh, hands down on the full-twisting double layout after though. Double full down the side was solid. 2.5 to front layout, not bad, and then the double layout ends up slightly short but otherwise is nice, just has to hop forward. 12.100 (5.2, 6.900)

I overbooked myself as per usual and have a birthday party at 7 pm so I think I’m only going to get the first three finals, but am planning on pausing and then watching uneven bars and rings when I return. 🙂
