The 2014 Worlds Bars Live Blog

It’s a weird time of night for most of us, but the women’s bars final is about to begin at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China, and we’re here to bring the action to you live through this blog! We will update after each routine – just click refresh every two to five minutes to see the latest. Enjoy!

This final is gonna be a good one. The Chinese crowd is already going nuts for Huang and Yao, who will be the final two to compete.

Aliya Mustafina, Russia, 15.100

Starts with an inbar full locked in handstand to van Leeuwen, very nice. Inbar half to huge piked Jaeger looks nice, stalder full goes over a bit in handstand but she hits the pak salto to stalder half to toe shoot. The toe full is LOVELY, and she hits the full out with a college stick! Excellent routine. 15.1 (6.3 / 8.8)

Daria Spiridonova, Russia, 15.283

Inbar to inbar full is lovely, to Komova II right to very clean pak salto. The van Leeuwen has some foot form, but she hits the inbar half to huge straddle Jaeger. Overdoes a handstand and leans over on the high bar before the dismount but nails the full-in dismount. 15.283 (6.4 / 8.883)

She moves ahead of Mustafina, who looks so happy for her and gives her a big smile and a hug.

Ashton Locklear, United States, 15.266

Inbar full to Komova II to pak salto to Maloney to bail to Ray, EXCELLENT! Very nicely done, that series. The inbar half to straddle Jaeger is great, and she hits the full-out with the tiniest step forward. It’s a very Russian routine, weirdly, after I’ve watched one right after another. 15.266 (6.5 / 8.766)

This will put her right behind Spiridonova.

Rebecca Downie, Great Britain, 15.166

I missed the beginning of this due to slow internet but tried to catch what I could in the slo-mo recap. Hop at the start of the routine before the Chow to high right into the Hindorff, I believe, toe full to Downie, hits Ricna straight to the pak salto, Maloney, clear hip half but her handstand is short, but nails full-in with a tiny bit of a college stick. 15.166 (6.6 / 8.566)

Ruby Harrold, Great Britain, 13.666

Maloney to Bhardwaj, van Leeuwen to Zuchold to toe full but overarches the handstand during the pirouette and has to hop off, unfortunately. Toe half to straddle Jaeger, hop to double front stuck. Lots of form stuff there, but a shame she had to fall. I love this routine. 13.666 (6.1 / 7.566)

Lisa-Katharina Hill, Germany, 14.333

She fell in all-around finals so I’m sure she’s nervous! Starts with Weiler kip, shaposh to Bhardwaj is great! Toe full to Maloney to clear hip half to clear hip full to Gienger, WOW. Hits a lovely handstand but then a rough handstand right after. Hits full-in dismount. Excellent routine, even if she got lost at a few moments, but it was clear she’s a fighter. So much for the “Mrs Nobody” nickname! 14.333 (6.3 / 8.033)

Huang Huidan, China, 15.566

Inbar full right on the bar to Chow to pak salto to Chow half, great! Inbar half into her crazy pirouette sequence to a super high piked Jaeger. Lovely so far. Double front half-in, and it’s excellent. Such a stellar routine and the crowd is going insane. 15.566 (6.8 / 8.766)

This moves her to the start by a good margin in what is otherwise a VERY close race!

Yao Jinnan, China, 15.633

Screen Shot 2014-10-11 at 12.16.11 AM

Komova II to pak salto to Chow half, great but there are some form issues. Misses a handstand before her pirouette series but the pirouettes are right on the bar, including the 1.5 right into the big Tkatchev. Misses another handstand but sticks the double layout! 15.633 (6.9 / 8.733)

Yao Jinnan is jumping up and down and celebrating after she wins the gold, with Huang Huidan winning silver and Daria Spiridonova winning bronze.

Yao Jinnan allegedly did not wear her number during her performance, though judges didn’t notice it and can’t backtrack on the deduction, I’m pretty sure. Oh, the gym drama, always.

  2. How much a deduction is it for not wearing the number? I also think that Claudia Fragapane didn’t wear hers during both AA and TF and that didn’t seem to be a problem…
