Italy starts on the floor, Romania on the Rings with the incredible Dragulescu, and Chinese Taipei will be on the P Bars.
Between MAG and WAG, 4 Reigning Olympic Champions failed to qualified to this years finals.
Aly Raisman on Floor, Krisztian Berki on Pommel Horse, Arthur Zanetti on Rings, and Epke Zonderland on High Bar. Perhaps the saddest of these is Berki. Because Hungary didn’t qualify a team to the Test Event, his Olympic Dream is now over.
With the U.S. qualifying in 5th and only 3 teams left, TEAM USA has officially qualified a team to the RIO Olympic Games

6:49 Whittenburg (USA PH) scissor to handstand, scissor to handstand, Curious as to why he is in the 2nd to last position in the rotation? Most of his rotation was super pike but he had stayed on. Then he had to push. I mean push OMG into the Dismount. I don’t think it was a D dismount.
6:45 pm. Kornev (KAZ VT) Tsuk double. I honesely don’t know how he stood that up. Well I do he had to tuck it in and twisted into the landing. Scary stuff but he is just fine. Maybe Mihai conditions him too.
Leyva (USA PH) scissor to handstand, scissor to handstand, Russian on single pommel, circles all the way down the horse, Magyar Sivado, Struggles on triple Russians, had to press into the handstand. Well he stayed on but shouldn’t get a huge score.
6:42 pm. Brooks (USA PH) scissors, Very measured throughout. UGHHHHHH he was doing SO.WELL. And a big fall off. Makes the dismount.
6:40 pm. Ruggeri ( USA PH) Flip flop scissors, Some nice circles….untillll he sat on the horse. Triple Russian dismount. He looks mad. Some highlights and lowlights here during qualifications.

Also side note. If ever I wanted a cheerleader, I think I would choose Chris Brooks. You can hear him through the whole arena. He is here for the Team.
6:20 pm. Brooks (USA FX) fhs front double pike, maltese like press, back 5/2 to kicked out barani, Russians, wide arm press, 1 ¾ roll out, back 3/2 to front 1/1, fhs front 2/1. 14.366

5:54 pm. Ruggeri (USA HB) 1 arm, giant ½, off on his cassina 😦 NOOOOO. Almost didn’t make time after a fall and had to hop up quickly, redoes his cassina and falls AGAIN. WHY? NO. Paul DO NOT do that again. Tak ½, layout tkatchev, straddle tkatchev ½, tak 1/1, yami (close bent arms) botches the quast and almost falls off again – does come to a dead underhang, stalder, Chucks the double double lay and takes a huges step to the side. 5:07 pm. Ruggeri (USA V) Yurchenko ½ on 2/1 off stuck!!!! YAY PAUL! So happy for him that he is finally on a World Championship team. It nearly broke my heart when I saw is interview post nationals in 2013!

5:05 pm. Brooks (USA V) Probably one of the best vaults I’ve seen him do. He usually scares me on vault. But a great Handspring double front. Great body position while landing. A little off to the side and a small hop that was accentuated by his hair that bounced when he did. 14.9

We are just moments away from the start of subdivision 7! We have defending Bronze Medalists, Team USA, and Defending World and Olympic High Bar Champion, Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands. This should be a very exciting subdivision!
The only person to break into the top 8 of the AA was Cuba’s Manrique Larduet. He is currently in 6th with an 88.556. That’s with OVER a point in deductions from running off the podium on vault. If he is able to duplicate today and fix vault, he is a SERIOUS medal contender! How cool would that be to see someone on the podium without a full team here?
None of the teams were able to break into the top 8 so as it stands the order is:
- Japan
- China
- Great Britain
- Russia
- Switzerland
- Brazil
- Korea
- Germany

The big news of this round is Cuban gymnast, Manrique Larduet! So far he is in finals for Floor and P Bars and doing really well in the AA. There are still two more subdivision left to go but he has definitely impressed me and caught my attention.

On to the 4th rotation

Spain is in 9th, Canada in 12th, and Mexico is in 15th .
1:10 de Luna (MEX HB) jami kch ½, fell on the kovacs – seems like that’s probably more common than not base on the team reaction, straddle tkatchev, giant ½, tak, basically fell on top of the bar ala Mikulak 2013 AA finals, weiler (top of bar pause again) giant ½, stuck his double double layout. His teammates were holding their head the whole way through. Fabian used to compete for USA. In fact he competed at the Winter Cup earlier this year that offers placement for the national team. Tallon Fernandez (ESP V) Kas 1.5 loose legs but lands well with a step forward. It was definitely a long vault versus one with a high block.

Larduet (CUB FX) front double pike – small hop, Beautiful Tamayo, front double to front lay, Arabian double pike (hop) Big wide arm press, back 2.5 to front ful, huge 1 ¾ Thomas – kicked out of it, Ends with a double Arabian to finish. We are live with subdivision 6 featuring Canada, Spain, and Mexico. Mixed groups include athletes from BUL, CUB, QAT, CRC, ARM, THA, and MAR.
Oleg Verniaiev Just Bumped the Reigning Olympic Champion out of the Pommel Horse final…Since Berki is not an All-Arounder and his team won’t qualify to the test even….it is likely his Olympic bid is over.
None of the teams from this subdivision made it to the top 8, however Oleg is currently in 2nd behind (.4) Uchimura. No one from this subdivision qualified for floor or high bar finals. Robert Seligman (CRO,) Vid Hidvegi (HUN,) and Verniaiev are currently qualified for Pommel Horse. Samir Ait Said (FRA,) Igor Radivilov (UKR,) and Verniaiev (UKR) are currently qualified for rings. The same two Ukrainians are also qualified for Vault finals. Verniaiev tops the leaderboard for parallel bars and currently has the highest score out of any competitor (male or female) across the competition. Axel Augis of France currently sits in 7th for P Bars.
11:19 am. Really nice clean routine or Oleg Verniaiev on the Pommel Horse. 15.166
After an injury on the rings, Baldursson’s teammate, Jon Gunnarsson still has to compete.
11:13 am. Interesting Dismount for Tommasone of France. He did a full twisting double back over the high bar
Yermak (UKR HB) nice Russians in between the pommels, some knee bends he and here…actually a lot of bends and separation but stays on.Triple Russian to dismount.
Baldursson (ISL SR) Missed the tap and flung out his dismount and landed right on his knees. He has been down for a while. Think Rebecca Bross 2011 Vault at nationals. Hard to watch.
11:09 am. Tsukahara (AUS SR) invert, V cross (high ) to v sit, maltese, kip to johansson, yami to high iron cross, invert, kip to planche, giant handstand, Nice double double to finish.
11:08 am. Colak (TUR V) Simple Tsuk 1/1 but well executed.
Ukraine finishes on Pommel Horse, France on the High Bar, and Hungary on PB.
Uchimura reclaimed the lead with Verniaiev in 2nd. Both had less than stellar floors. It now comes down to pommel horse to see how they stack up heading into the final.
France is in 9th, Ukraine in 10th and Hungary remains in 15th.
10:58 am. Semiankiv (UKR) Front double roll out, back 2.5 to punch barani, back 1.5 to front full, struggles with the wide arm press, Arabian, handstand press, stuck back double full, back triple to finish.
10:52 am. OLEG! (UKR FX) Let’s go! 1 ¾ layed out Thomas, back 3.5 to front full stuck, fhs back 1.5 to front 1/1, (out) double full bounce out of bounds. Nice flairs to wide arm press. Back 2.5 to punch barani, triple full to finish. Small hop. I believe he did all of his passes out of round-off. Interesting. He did two front fulls so I think that is a deduction. 14.2
10:51 am. Dudas (HUN V) Tsuk 2/1
10:50 am. Hryko (UKR FX) fhs, frong 2/1, back 5/2 to barani, fhs to front 5/2 – bounce,) back 2/1… he is having a log of trouble controlling his landings, wide arm press, side somi kick out, back 2/1, triple full to finish. Just a small hop back. Probably his best landing of the routine.
Vagner (HUN V) tsuk 1/1
Hidvegi (HUN V) Tsuk 1/1
10:45 am. Radivilov (UKR FX) double pike Arabian (almost stuck,) frong 2/1 to punch barani, double arabian almost stuck, Russians to side arm press (struggles slightly and a little arched,) front lay to front double front (slides and sits,) ends with a full-in to finish. 13.166

10:26 am. Willig (FRA V) DTY! Really fantastic snap on the RO. Right down the center with chest upright.
Seligman (CRO PH) Amazing extension. Struggles through the triple Russian dismount.
Berki is in 7th and could possible not make finals at this point. That would be a shame because it was a stunning routine. With two pommel specialists from Croatia in the upcoming routine we shall see.
10:12 am. Patra (IND V) Tsuk 2/1
Verniaiev (UKR PB) – has a long wait waiting on Okachev’s score (14.533)
Stunning start of handstand, peach ½, peach to 1 bar – healy from 1 hand, peach, Tippelt, Bhavsar, up to handstand healy 1/2, Peters, double front ½ out to finish! Fantastic routine from him. 16.133
Berki (HUN PH) Flip flop handstand, His extension is SO beautiful, triple Russian in the middle to Russian travles, Magyar spindle to sivado, eeekk only did a B dismount. Struggled swinging into the dismount. Other than the dismount it was stunning.
10:09 am. Kumar (IND V) Tsuk Double tuck. Wow! Stuck it and down the middle!
10:05 am. Great double double to finish for Willig (FRA) on rings.
Colak (TUR V) Tsuk 1/1
Baldursson (ISL HB) Yami, clear hip, giant ½, tak, endo giant ½, double arabian dismount with CRAZY legs. Falls to his back. Jumps back up. Guess he’s redoing it. Sticks a full twisting double lay dismount. Weird. Hopefully (knock on wood) Berki will hit his pommel routine and we will have a really exciting final between him and Louis Smith of Great Britain. For newer fans, they tied at the London Olympics but with the tie-breaker rules, Berki was awarded the gold and Smith the Silver. Smith is currently in first headed into this rotation.
AA after 2: Uchimura, Belyavskiy, Radivilov (30.533)
Team: Ukraine 116.830 (6th) France 11.797 (11th) , Hungary 105.564 (15th)

9:50 am. Verniaiev (UKR V2) Kas 2/1! Really nice. Crosses his legs and maybe has to pike down slightly but good direction as his feet were right down the middle. 15.366 AVG> 15.216. Puts him in 4th for finals at the moment.
9:48 am. Verniaiev (UKR V) HUGE HUGE Dragulescu. Much different than his teammates. But has too much power and has to run a few steps back out of it. He had so much room before landing. 15.066
9:44 am. Radivilov (UKR V) Dragulescu. I actually don’t know how he landed that so solidly because his block didn’t seem great and it seems like he rotates slower than others who do that vault but it was solid. He landed of to the right and hopped off into the red but a good score. 15.2
VT 2. FANTASTIC Tsuk double pike! Two 6.0 D score vaults. Better landing position, better direction. 15.133 AVG. 15.166

I knew that the U.S. Men might have issues finishing on PH since it is their weakest event, but the problems on PB and HB were really shocking. (FX seemed to give a lot of teams trouble). It is unfortunate too since being in fifth means they have the same order of events for the finals.
