Welcome to week two on our NCAA live blog! Last week went really well, so we’re excited to try it again. Just a reminder that updates will come every few minutes, usually after a routine has finished. Just refresh your browser and the most recent will appear at the top. Enjoy!
MONDAY JANUARY 18
10:46 pm. Washington wins the meet and takes their first win of the season, 194.575 to 192.45! Northey’s 39.175 was enough for the all-around title and she wins beam with a 9.85, Allex’s 9.9s on vault and floor top the charts there, and Duranczyk is best on bars with a 9.75.
10:44 pm. Allex, ASU, FX- Double arabian lands a little low but she stands up easily out of it. OOH, 2.5 to front layout full! Excellent difficulty there. Rudi is a little low with her chest down and she hops back a bit. 9.9
10:42 pm. Rose, Washington, BB- One of my favorite freshmen! Great split mount. Front aerial with a check into bhs. Last week that was suuuuper smooth but even with the little bobble, it’s still connected. Full Y turn is gorgeous. Switch to split jump. Cat leap to side aerial, solid. Side aerial to layout full with a step back. Great work, little errors aside. 9.75
10:41 pm. Salas, ASU, FX- Her music is Santana’s “Smooth” hahaha. Front double full, a little under-rotated and she takes a step. Front layout to front full with a big step forward. Double pike into a controlled lunge. Some sloppy landings but otherwise good work. 9.825
10:39 pm. Northey, Washington, BB- A little short on jump series. Bhs loso, tiniest check, but hits it very well. Front toss to beat jump. 1.5 with an eensy weensy hop to the side. 9.85
Northey finishes her all-around performance with a 39.175!
10:37 pm. Belkoff, ASU, FX- Low double pike, chest down. She looks about 14. Rudi with two steps back. Good 1.5 to front layout, just a hop forward. 9.7
10:35 pm. Duranczyk, Washington, BB- Standing loso to loso flight series, big check with her leg up but she uses crazy core muscles to keep it on. She fell on it in the warm-up so good fight there. Hits jump series…I missed the first, but it was connected to a beat jump to straddle 3/4. Full turn, 1.5 with a step forward. 9.675
10:33 pm. Wilson, ASU, FX- “Mission Impossible” music! Kind of like Arizona State’s meet right now. Double pike is hit very well, and she lands the middle pass nicely as well, though naturally I missed 80% of it. Good double tuck to finish! 9.7
10:31 pm. Janik, Washington, BB- Is there a reason everyone in the crowd is SHRIEKING? Like, bloody murder? Last week Janik missed her flight series and tried to start over but mentally just destroyed herself. Just missed it again. Front aerial, misses it, yup. Tries it again…misses it again. Front aerial, wobbles. Same exact thing as last week. But last week she chucked a bhs loso and fell. Time to change that flight series. Hits jumps, side aerial, gainer pike off the end, small step back. I guess it’s better for her to miss a connection than chuck something and take a fall, but yeah, they need to change that series. Two meets in with the same thing happening is going to eff her up mentally each time. She’s too good on beam to get scores this low. I can see them giving it maybe one more week? But yeah. It’s too much of a risk. 9.225
10:29 pm. Levin, ASU, FX- Double pike with a step. Solid front layout to front full. Switch to switch half leap series. Fun little choreo bit on the floor. Sticks her Rudi right on her toes. 9.625
10:27 pm. Burleson, Washington, BB- Casually screaming at herself Tabitha Yim style before she mounts. BLESS. I appreciate a little self rage here and there. Bhs loso with a check but she has a great fight and holds it. Cat leap to side aerial, very aggressive. Switch with a wobble, doesn’t connect to beat jump to straddle 1/4. Was supposed to be switch to straddle 1/4, but she added in the beat jump so she wouldn’t lose her series. Full turn, and finishes with a side aerial to stuck layout full. 9.65
10:25 pm. Lentz, ASU, FX- Double pike with a little bounce back to start. 1.5 to front layout, clean landing. Great double tuck to finish. 9.775
10:23 pm. Goings, Washington, BB- SOLID bhs bhs loso! I feel like once that’s out of the way you can just kill it. Straddle to straddle 1/4 with perfect flexibility. Full turn with a pretty kick-out. Gainer layout. Side aerial to stuck layout full. BEAUTIFUL. Little form things here and there but such a perfectly steady set. I teared up a tiny bit sorry not sorry. 9.775
10:22 pm. “Take your time, don’t rush. Just do your routines.” Northey and Janik leading the Washington huddle like champs!
10:13 pm. Great floor rotation for Washington! They finish with a 48.9 while Arizona State posts a 47.8 after counting a fall on beam. Washington leads by over two points going into the final rotation, 145.875 to 143.55.
10:11 pm. Northey, Washington, FX- Solid landing on her double pike, just bends her knees a little more than she probably should to absorb the floor. 1.5 to front layout is great. Excellent jump series. Great double tuck, looks a little low in her set, but it doesn’t phase her…chest is just down a tiny bit. 9.8
10:09 pm. Lentz, ASU, BB- Check on bhs loso, split jump to straddle 1/4, full turn, switch side, big double tuck, chest slightly down and with a hop back. Good finish for this rotation. 9.8
10:07 pm. Morrison, Washington, FX- Huge double arabian with a great landing! Controlled lunge. Love her music. “Groove is in the Heart” LOL. Perfection. Front full to front layout, solid jump series. Excellent double tuck to finish! 9.825
10:05 pm. Belkoff, ASU, BB- Third freshman in their beam lineup. The two who fell were seniors. Bhs bhs loso looks very nice but she has a huge check on the landing…bends at the waist, stands up out of it. Good fight. Switch to straddle 1/4. Front aerial to Korbut, a bit slow, full turn with a check, 1.5 with a hop forward. 9.575
10:03 pm. Duranczyk, Washington, FX- Such a fun performer. Front tuck through to double pike, nailed. Doesn’t get the best amplitude on her jump series but throws three in a row, and her speed covers up any form issue. Double pike, solid landing. 9.8
10:01 pm. Allex, ASU, BB- Lovely Valdez, full turn, bhs loso is a little crooked and she can’t fight, just drops off the side. They’ll count a fall. Switch to straddle 1/4 with a very slow connection, might not get it. Front toss with a step. Front 1.5 dismount isn’t really controlled, just kind of chucks it. 9.025
9:59 pm. Yacalis, Washington, FX- Tucked full-in doesn’t quite get there, lands low with a step forward. Double tuck has a similar issue though not as rough…just a step to steady herself. Whip to 1.5 is also a little short with some loose form. 9.575
9:57 pm. Wilson, ASU, BB- Solid bhs loso, slow and lovely full turn, switch to back tuck with her leg up a tiny bit on the landing. Front toss to wolf jump, slightly slow connection but they’ll probably give it to her. 1.5 dismount with one bent knee. Freshmen getting it done on beam for Arizona State. 9.7
9:55 pm. Schaefer, Washington, FX- Apparently her bars score just got downgraded? Two rotations later? What the hell? It’s down like 0.05 or something. Great double tuck to start. Front full to front full to stag, great. Double pike, chest down, but a solid landing, doesn’t budge her feet. 9.825
9:53 pm. Udowitch, ASU, BB- Beautiful Bridget Sloan elite beam mount. Front aerial to bhs, lovely. Switch to split jump. Beautiful quick full turn. Her music sounded like Patty Griffin’s “Long Ride Home” at first and I got very excited but IT’S NOT, ugh. Punch front, side aerial to layout full with a solid landing. Great work! 9.7
9:51 pm. Burleson, Washington, FX- Nails double pike to start. Oooh beautiful jumps and spins all rolled into one. 1.5 to punch front tuck, very clean. 2.5 is a little bit short and she takes a couple of steps back off the sting mat. 9.65
9:50 pm. Salas, ASU, BB- Bhs loso and she’s off immediately. Welp. So much for the meditation. Cat leap to switch side. Punch front, hits jumps, 1.5 with a hop. 9.025
9:49 pm. Allie Salas is doing intense deep breathing exercises before beam. They’re pissed after that bars rotation and need a major recovery.
9:44 pm. Looks like Kraus cut her shin or something on bars? What a rough night for her. She’s getting medical attention now.
9:42 pm. Second rotation…at the halfway point, Washington takes over the lead 97.0 to 95.725.
Goings, Washington, VT- FTY, step back, 9.7
Wilson, ASU, UB- Jaeger, beautiful handstand before bail, a tiny bit short on last handstand, giant full to double tuck, tiny hop. 9.6
Stowe, Washington, VT- FTY, good distance, chest down, two steps back. 9.55
Salas, ASU, UB- Giant full, bail, short on last handstand, very straight double layout with a hop back, 9.675
Burleson, Washington, VT- FTY, loses balance a bit and lifts her leg, but better than hers have been, 9.8
Levin, ASU, UB- Giant full to Tkachev, GREAT. Bail, short on last handstand, giant full to clean stuck double tuck. 9.55
Yacalis, Washington, VT- FTY very clean, chest a tiny bit down and just one small step back. Excellent! 9.775
Udowitch, ASU, UB- Big straddle Jaeger, bail with leg separation to stalder to pike circle, stalder to high stuck double tuck. 9.525
Northey, Washington, VT- I love her little pose before her run. Clean FTY, looks like she got a great block, very nice landing. 9.775
Imbus, ASU, VT- short first handstand before Maloney to bail, CRAZY leg separation and catches with bent elbows before collapsing on the bar. Very straight and clean double layout with a hop forward. 8.875
Morrison, Washington, VT- Yurchenko layout, easy vault but very clean in the air, step back. 9.6
Kraus, ASU, UB- Holds first handstand way too long, does a half pirouette to try to control it but dead hangs and hops off. Giant full to Tkachev, you can tell she’s frustrated and just flings herself over the bar with zero chance of catching because she’s way too far away. Suuuuper pissed as she rechalks. Overshoot, short on last handstand, aggressive swing into clean double layout, nearly stuck. 8.15
9:22 pm. Here’s the first rotation from Arizona State vs Washington! ASU leads 48.5 to 48.35.
Lentz, ASU, VT- FTY, deep in the knees, and big hop back, 9.65
Burleson, Washington, UB- Tkacchev, bail, giant full to doube back, ugh, steps back and sits! 9.125
Belkoff, ASU, VT- FTY, deep, step forward, 9.475
Nesis, Washington, UB- misses first handstand (way off), Jaeger, hit dismount, 9.5
Salas, ASU, VT- Hits FTY, solid effort, best so far, 9.75
Janik, Washington, UB- pak with leg separation, bends sideways on a handstand, giant full to double tuck, steps, 9.6
Wilson, ASU, VT- FTY, clean, small hop back, 9.7
Schaefer, Washington, UB- giant full to Tkachev, bail, short on last handstand, double layout, stuck with chest down, 9.725
Allex, ASU, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, loose body line but GREAT landing! 9.9
Duranczyk, Washington, UB- Hop blind to Jaeger, YAS. Toe-on to bail (messy), double layout with a small hop, 9.75
Kraus, ASU, VT- Her bump-it is working overtime. Looks like she died on a warm-up earlier? FTY, quite a bit short, step back but way better than warm-ups. 9.5
Northey, Washington, UB- Piked Jaeger to overshoot, hit full-in. Great job. 9.75
3:37 pm. This super exciting meet comes to a close with visiting team Stanford JUST barely sneaking out the win, 195.875 to 195.75. But Stanford didn’t count a fall and Georgia counted three…crazy that Georgia would’ve gone about 197.25 had they hit beam.
3:34 pm. Jay, Georgia, FX- Half-in half-out is a little wild, and she takes a step back out of it to control it. Good front double full to punch front tuck. Whip half to front full with a wild landing, steps forward. You can tell she was like, just so excited to save the day, and that affected her ability to hit as cleanly as she normally can. 9.825
3:33 pm. Chuang, Stanford, BB- Bhs loso is solid. Switch to stag, which Cat Hires calls a Yang Bo LOL. Okay. Full turn, side aerial, wolf hop to stuck gainer full. Beautiful work there. It’s gonna be close! 9.9
3:32 pm. With one routine to go each, BOTH TEAMS ARE AT 195.7!!!!!! EXCITED.
3:31 pm. Rogers, Georgia, FX- Nails double arabian! 1.5 to front layout is hit, and she finishes with a double pike, chest down. 9.825
Ebee has a 39.425 in the all-around with the tiny mistakes on beam.
3:29 pm. Price, Stanford, BB- Front aerial, bhs layout, the tiniest little check ever. Full turn. Switch to split jump. Double pike, short, step forward. 9.775
3:27 pm. Box, Georgia, FX- Huge double pike with a step. 1.5 to front layout is lovely. Double tuck a tiny short but overall a great routine. 9.9
3:25 pm. Hong, Stanford, BB- Lovely mount. Beautiful Onodi to bhs, steady bhs loso, split jump to sheep jump, gainer pike off the end of the beam, hop back. 9.9
3:23 pm. Marino, Georgia, FX- Loving the dude with the bow tie on the sidelines with the team. Huge double layout to open. Hits 1.5 to front layout. Nails double pike to finish. Good work! 9.9
Taylor Rice finishes with a 39.2 in the all-around.
3:21 pm. Rice, Stanford, BB- Straddle jump to sheep jump. Full turn, front toss, love her arm wave! Check on bhs loso, gainer full is stuck. 9.85
3:19 pm. Babalis, Georgia, FX- Roundoff right into a big double tuck. Jump series is a little wild. “You don’t think about it, but this is a physical sport.” ?!?!?!?!?!?! Are you drunk, dude? Good front layout to front full. Double pike a bit low in her knees and she steps back but overall a nice hit routine. 9.775
3:18 pm. Fitzgerald, Stanford, BB- Starts with a nice full turn, low front aerial to back tuck, split jump to wolf jump, hitch kick to front toss, check but loved the combo. 1.5 with a step. 9.775
3:15 pm. Snead, Georgia, FX- Whip through to double tuck, Rudi to split jump, both hit well. Double pike, chest down but a good landing. Oh, looks like heel went out-of-bounds? Maybe they didn’t see it. 9.85
3:14 pm. N. McNair, Stanford, BB- The dude announcer is like WOW a sophomore in the anchor spot. Um, it’s EBEE, where have you been? Bhs loso. Side somi, slight check. Full turn, side aerial with a wobble and break at the hips but fights for it, switch to straddle, nice double full dismount. 9.725
3:08 pm. With all of Georgia’s falls (just a 47.6 on beam), Stanford jumps ahead 146.675 to 146.45. Georgia can definitely make this up in the final rotation. Stanford had a 48.8 on floor.
3:05 pm. Jay, Georgia, BB- Exhibition. If she doesn’t fall I’m going to scream bloody murder and force Danna to put her up next week. Full turn with a slight check. Cat leap to side aerial. Front toss to bhs, slight bent knees on the bhs. Switch into Shushunova into a back hip circle, side somi with a slight check, 1.5 with a hop. YEP. Just put her the eff in the rotation. I don’t care if this routine gets a 9.7 with checks and bobbles. Her unwavering confidence is better than FOUR FALLS.
3:03 pm. Chuang, Stanford, FX- Solid double pike to open. Front layout to front full, good landing. 1.5 to front layout. Good set from her. 9.75
3:02 pm. Box, Georgia, BB- Off right away on her bhs loso. Like…what. What are you doing. I’m literally yelling the Tyra Banks speech right now. Switch to straddle 3/4. Most half-hearted moonwalk cheers ever. Front aerial to beat jump. 1.5 with a hop forward. 9.375
3:00 pm. Price, Stanford, FX- Excellent double tuck to start. Front layout to front full is great. Great double pike to finish. 9.875
2:58 pm. Rogers, Georgia, BB- Her beam music “Time of Your Life” is my fifth grade graduation song. Front aerial to wolf jump, a little bobble on her beat jump. Full-twisting back handspring. Falls on bhs loso, so they’ll count two falls. “WHY, GEORGIA, WHY” – John Mayer. Bhs 1/4 to stag, crowd loves it. 1.5 dismount, good landing. 9.275
2:55 pm. Spector, Stanford, FX- Double pike is way over-rotated, huge step back. Loooooove her music. Pink Floyd! Front layout to front full, decent. Double tuck is way short, and she puts her hands down. 9.15
2:54 pm. Cherrey, Georgia, BB- Floaty bhs loso, misses her back foot on her loso landing but she barely bobbles. Switch to split leap, ugh, and a fall on her front aerial. I’d love to see Georgia just bring in nothing but beam workers in their next 200 years of recruits after the past few years of it being their downfall. Full turn. Cat leap to side aerial. 1.5 stuck. 9.225
2:51 pm. Danna seriously looks like the nicest woman ever?! ADOPT ME.
Rice, Stanford, FX- “My Humps” opening FTW. Double pike is short, chest way down. Whip half to front full is good. She’s selling it better than anyone else on her team so far. Double tuck, again a bit short, chest is down and she takes a step back. 9.75
2:50 pm. Schick, Georgia, BB- Bhs loso, off-center, and falls. Front aerial to split jump. Full turn. One armed front handspring to switch leap to beat jump, love that series! Steady side aerial. Cartwheel to gainer full, tiny movement. 9.35
2:47 pm. Fitzgerald, Stanford, FX- Double tuck, step back. Front full to front layout, good landing there. Full L turn loses a little control at the end but her hop full L turn (named the L Hop after me) is good. 1.5 to front pike and I think she loses her hair bow LOL. YOU DROPPED YOUR BOW. PICK IT UP. Great work from the freshman. 9.725
2:45 pm. Babalis, Georgia, BB- Front aerial to loso, decent speed on connection. Split leap to cat leap to full turn, nice. Front toss to beat jump. I’m looooving Danna Durante’s shirt in the background. WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR OUTFITS. Front full dismount, nice landing. 9.8
2:43 pm. Frowein, Stanford, FX- Solid double pike to start, just a slight chest down. Front full front pike is clean. 1.5 to front pike. Her music is a song I only know from Moulin Rouge which was like the best movie ever. 9.7
2:41 pm. Broussard, Georgia, BB- Is Brandie coaching her? Bless? One-armed bhs to loso, great. Switch to straddle 1/4, steady full turn, side aerial to split jump, connection’s a bit slow but it’s suuuuuper steady. Cat leap to gainer full, stuck. EXCELLENT work. 9.8
2:35 pm. A nice 49.35 for Georgia on bars, while Stanford comes in with a 48.85 on vault. Georgia has nearly a full point lead at the halfway point, 98.85 to 97.875.
2:33 pm. Rogers, Georgia, UB- Stalder to Ricna to pak, lovely. Toe on to van Leeuwen, stuck double layout. excellent work. 9.925
2:32 pm. Chuang, Stanford, UB- Just a Yurchenko layout. 9.625
2:31 pm. Jay, Georgia, UB- Toe-on to bail, Shushunova which Cat decides is a full-twisting Tkachev? Oh I guess it is kinda but not really?, full-twisting double layout, excellent, just a tiny little hop forward. 9.9
2:30 pm. Price, Stanford, VT- Big and beautiful FTY. Just a tiny little shuffle. 9.875
2:29 pm. Schick, Georgia, UB-Big Tkachev, nice piked Jaeger, bail to pike circle, again a tiny short on the last handstand, and a double layout stuck. 9.875
2:28 pm. Fitzgerald, Stanford, VT- FTY, totally messed it up. Turned into a tuck after she missed her block, which she hit with totally bent elbows. Had zero room for rotation and crunched it down to her knees. 9.525
2:27 pm. Snead, Georgia, UB- Clear hip to nice Tkachev, clean bail, last handstand is a little short, hit double layout with a step back to steady. 9.825
2:26 pm. N. McNair, Stanford, VT- Clean FTY, small hop back. 9.8
2:25 pm. Cherrey, Georgia, UB- Tkachev with flexed feet, toe-on, holds it for 900 years trying not to over-arch, bail, last handstand is way short, double layout with a tiny shuffle. 9.725
2:24 pm. Rice, Stanford, VT- FTY, clean and nearly stuck, chest slightly down. 9.775
2:23 pm. Vaculik, Georgia, UB- First handstand is a little short, toe-on, piked Jaeger, bail to pike circle, great last handstand, full-in stuck! (No Cat Hines that was a full-in, trust.) 9.825
2:22 pm. D. McNair, Stanford, VT- FTY, little hop, not a huge vault but solid enough to start them off. 9.775
2:17 pm. EXCELLENT vault rotation from Georgia. Keep the momentum going! They lead 49.5 to 49.025 going into the second rotation. I’m still exploding over Ebee’s bars honestly.
2:15 pm. Hong, Stanford, UB- FEELS. Very low Tkachev. Toe-on is over-arched a bit, bail to toe shoot, floaty double layout, short with bent knees and she hops forward. 9.775
2:14 pm. Jay, Georgia, VT- Excellent stuck Yurchenko 1.5. Slight leg separation on the pre-flight but a truly great vault. If Brittany got a 9.95 she needs a 10.5. Score is 9.975! BRANDIEEEE.
2:13 pm. Price, Stanford, UB- Maloney to clear hip to Church to bail to toe shoot WTF!!!! GAH. COME BACK TO ELITE ALREADY. Stuck double layout. HER WHOLE ROUTINE IS CONNECTED. GURL. 9.9
2:12 pm. Rogers, Georgia, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, her form is super loose in the air, but she has a good landing, just a tiny little movement. 9.95
2:11 pm. Maxwell, Stanford, UB- Aww man the entire 2010 Texas Dreams junior team competing NCAA now makes my heart explode. I’ll never get over it. Toe on to Ray, fall. Apparently she’s been hit or miss…she has a beautiful swing and when she hits, it’s amazing, but she tends to have trouble hitting consistently. Bail to toe shoot, giant full to double tuck, stuck. 9.0
2:10 pm. Marino, Georgia, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, excellent! Stuck! Angle makes it really hard to see her distance but it looked like a big one. 9.9
2:09 pm. D. McNair, Stanford, UB- Jaeger to overshoot, good. Pike circle into a toe shoot. Last handstand is a bit short, double layout with a step back. 9.725
2:08 pm. Snead, Georgia, VT- Clean FTY, tries to stick but hops in place. 9.825
2:07 pm. Rice, Stanford, UB- Toe shoot, giant half to Jaeger, clean pak, every single handstand has looked right on top of the bar so far. Giant full to a double tuck, not a lot of height, small step back. 9.825
2:06 pm. Vaculik, Georgia, VT- HOW IS SHE A SENIOR?! Wasn’t Kristina just a senior? I refuse to believe aging. Solid FTY, tiny hop back. 9.775
2:04 pm. N. McNair, Stanford, UB- Piked Jaeger, solid bail to toe shoot, good last handstand, and she has a little hop back on her full-out. 9.8
2:03 pm. Broussard, Georgia, VT- FTY, huge and stuck! 9.85
1:57 pm. I love the MLK Jr. meets Georgia hosts every year. And I love them even more when it’s Georgia and Stanford, two teams that generally struggle compared to the very top teams but always put up a crazy good fight in the end. I’m being very fancy today and have the meet all set up on my TV, so give me a few minutes until it starts and I’ll see you back here, yo.
SUNDAY JANUARY 17
4:37 pm. Oklahoma wins this one, 197.05 to Arkansas with 195.9! Keeley Kmieciak won the all-around with a 39.4. Really loving seeing all-arounders from OU this year.
4:34 pm. Wellick, Arkansas, FX- Double pike, very nice start. Front full to punch front, I think meant to be tucked. Double tuck, chest down. Decent routine but not the killer set they needed. 9.675
4:32 pm. Capps, Oklahoma, BB- Ridiculously beautiful mount, I’m basically already crying. Bhs loso to beat jump, perfect. Full turn. Front aerial to her little twiddle jump. That’s what I call it…is that even a thing? It’s like a beat jump but not. Switch to straddle 1/4. Side aerial to stuck gainer full. JUST GIVE HER A TEN. 9.925
4:30 pm. McGlone, Arkansas, FX- Great double pike. Excellent 2.5! Having a blast out there. Front full to front layout, solid landing. Great finish. 9.825
4:29 pm. Lovan, Oklahoma, BB- Switch to straddle 1/4. Bhs loso, big wobble, tries to fight for it but she falls. Same as last week. Front aerial, full turn, stuck gainer full. Would’ve been great without the fall! 9.35
4:27 pm. Nelson, Arkansas, FX- Double pike. 1.5 to front layout, tiny little wobble on the landing. Double tuck skids but she holds onto it. 9.775
4:25 pm. Brown, Oklahoma, BB- Front aerial, check. Floaty bhs loso. Nice straddle 3/4. Full turn. Side aerial. Switch to gainer full, stuck. Fantastic job! She’s come a long way from last year. 9.825
4:23 pm. MacMoyle, Arkansas, FX- Double pike jumped out into a lunge, great. Has some little similar choreography pieces to Chayse Capps last year actually, which I kind of love. What if she’s like obsessed with her and now she’s competing with her? 1.5 to front layout, a little bobble on the landing. Double tuck, looks like she misses her footing on her back handspring and she doesn’t get enough punch off the floor, lands very low and hops forward. 9.6
4:22 pm. Jones, Oklahoma, BB- Solid bhs loso. Full turn. Cat leap to front toss, a bit low. Switch to split leap. Very steady work on everything, and she has a stuck 1.5 to finish. Fierce. 9.85
4:20 pm. Canizaro, Arkansas, FX- Solid double pike. Double tuck with a weird little bobble at the end after she lands it solidly. May have been out-of-bounds with her heel. Another switch ring, Arkansas bringing it in the dance element department. 1.5 to front layout, step forward. 9.675
4:18 pm. Lehrmann, Oklahoma, BB- Full turn, front aerial a little short, balance check and she bends at the waist but fights and stays on. Solid bhs loso. Switch side to Shushunova. 1.5 with a tiny bobble. 9.7
4:15 pm. Dillard, Arkansas, FX- Rudi to start is great. Lovely switch ring. Front full to front layout to stag, great. 1.5 to front layout. Great start. 9.775
4:14 pm. Kmieciak, Oklahoma, BB- Wolf jump, beautiful bhs loso, beat jump to straddle half, all great so far. Full turn, double tuck with a step. Excellent routine! 9.9
4:02 pm. Scaman, Oklahoma, FX- Big double layout to start, and she lands with her feet together but jumps them out into a lunge. Very nice. Rudi loso, I’m gonna miss this after she graduates.Great jumps. Double tuck into a controlled lunge. Excellent routine. 9.9
4:00 pm. Nelson, Arkansas, BB- Cat leap to switch side. I remember from Friday, her cat leaps are super…deliberate? Not jerky but very like…she emphasizes the movement. Bhs loso, noticeably flexed feet. Split to straddle 1/4. Punch front tuck, a tiny bit low. Full turn. 1.5 dismount with a hop forward. 9.825
3:58 pm. Jackson, Oklahoma, FX- Love that she blows a chalk kiss before her first pass, which I think is a whip half to Rudi? Her whip half happens so fast?! Another whip half, this time into a front layout full. Pretty unique. Solid double pike to finish. 9.85
3:56 pm. McGlone, Arkansas, BB- Full turn. Wobble on bhs loso, bends at the waist, but she fights and stays on. Switch leap to layout stepout, great. Hitch kick to straddle 1/4. Stuck double full dismount. Great comeback after that wobble. 9.575

3:46 pm. Brown, Oklahoma, FX- Love her movement. Excellent front double full to start! “Game of Thrones” theme song as her music. Front layout to front full, lands with one foot slightly over the line. Random roundoff loso as a side pass. Lovely work in her jumps. Solid Rudi to finish. 9.7

3:27 pm. Capps, Oklahoma, VT- Another FTY with great flair out at the end. But she looks a little off-center on her block and hops back slightly. 9.825
3:26 pm. Canizaro, Arkansas, UB- Maloney is super clean, but bail (connected) is very short. Short on handstand before huge Ray between the bars, finishes with a stuck double layout. Awesome routine form aside. Lots of potential there. 9.65
3:25 pm. Kmieciak, Oklahoma, VT- Clean FTY with a nice flair. Looks like maybe a tiny hop…yeah, in the replay she rebounds back about a foot. 9.85

3:00 pm. Starting Arkansas vs Oklahoma now! This should be an easy meet for Oklahoma but Arkansas had a great meet the other night at home, so I’m excited to see how they do.
SATURDAY JANUARY 16
6:02 pm. Some more results for you…
Nebraska kicking it up from last week, scoring 196.15 to defeat Penn State at 194.575. Penn State counted a fall on beam which is where Nebraska did their best work, including a 9.925 from Grace Williams.
Minnesota is still showing last week’s scores instead of live scores, so kudos to them. And Northern Illinois is beating UIC after two rotations at the moment.
Earlier today, Brockport beat Ursinus 186.65 to 185.075, and over at SCSU, Brown topped the field with a 188.95 to SCSU’s 187.75, Ithaca’s 185.925, and Springfield’s 185.275.
All available results so far are linked here.

5:32 pm. Harrison, Ohio State, BB- SOLID bhs loso loso. 10 just for that. Switch to split jump, big smile. Full turn, clean, cat leap with a good kick-out into a front aerial. Very deliberate in her movement. Another cat leap into her stuck gainer full. Legit cried at this a little?! Beautiful. 9.9
5:30 pm. Artz, Michigan, FX- Great piked full-in to start. There is a little girl in the front row doing legit every bit of choreo along with her. LOVE. Front lay front full, solid and clean. Great double pike to finish. 9.9
5:29 pm. Hofland, Ohio State, BB- Bhs loso, solid. Music is Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams.” GOOD CHOICES, OHIO STATE. Beautiful double turn. Full-twisting back handspring. Hits jump series. Tuck gainer full off the end of the beam, LOVE. 9.825
5:27 pm. Chiarelli, Michigan, FX- Double arabian is considerably low and she lands in a seated position, but she stands up well out of it. 1.5 to front layout. Double pike is stuck. 9.825
5:25 pm. Kent, Ohio State, BB- Very pretty low beam choreography at the beginning, she’s talking to herself a lot and I LOVE IT. Bhs loso. Her music is “Fight Song” which should be everyone’s beam music. Split jump to sheep jump, small check. She’s literally carrying on a full-blown conversation. Cat leap to front aerial. Gainer pike dismount, nearly stuck. 9.775
5:23 pm. Karas, Michigan, FX- SKY high double arabian. Step forward. I don’t think she realized she was gonna go that high, tbh. I MISSED HER MIDDLE PASS. Double pike is a solid finish. 9.825

Beat jump to straddle half, cat leap to side aerial, full turn, sticks double tuck cold, just her chest down. Awesome routine there. Everyone’s chanting 10 but that’s not gonna happen with this scoring. GO TO FLORIDA. 9.95
5:03 pm. Harrison, Ohio State, FX- Hit opening pass and nailed 2.5 to punch front in the second pass! Great work. Solid Rudi to finish. 9.85

4:58 pm. Williams, Michigan, BB- I missed the beginning, but she has a great cat leap to side aerial and an awesome split jump full. Her beam music is Chayse Capps’ floor music from last year, “Sweet Disposition.” One-armed bhs to loso, solid. Hits dismount. Good work. 9.85
4:56 pm. Malone, Oho State, FX- Double pike, stumbles back and sits it out-of-bounds. When the flag raises on passes like that I’m always like DUH LADY. Front lay to front tuck half a little low, into a straddle, chest leaning far forward. Double tuck to finish. 8.925
4:54 pm. Marinez, Michigan, BB- Split mount, nice. Front aerial to bhs, almost connected to her split jump. Double full dismount, actually looks like she misses her foot going into it but has no problems getting it around. 9.8

4:14 pm. Casanova, Michigan, VT- Great hit Yurchenko 1.5! She sat this last week so it was awesome to see her do well today. 9.825
4:08 pm. There’s a Michigan video about alumni going off and doing things and they showed a shot of Professor Thom’s in the east village! Best “Lost” viewings there EVER. And Michigan games apparently.
4:07 pm. Michigan’s vault lineup is Casanova, McLean, Artz, Chiarelli, Sheppard, and Karas.
Ohio State’s bars lineup is Funches, Kent, Mattern, Abrams, Harrison, and Hofland.
4:05 pm. Walk-out just ended. Really hoping we see Michigan KILL today and maintain their #1 ranking. But I think Florida will likely take over with that huge score they got last night.
3:56 pm. At 4 pm I’ll start up with the Michigan vs Ohio State Big 10 rivalry meet. I’ll try to give a few score updates from Penn State vs Nebraska but I don’t feel like getting a Big 10 plus account this early in the season. At 5 pm, I’ll throw NIU vs UIC into the mix. That’s really it for today, though I might retroactively “live blog” Alabama later.
3:20 pm. A couple of little updates before I get started with today’s meets!
Boise State won at UC Davis last night, posting a 195.7. UC Davis was second with a 194.325 while Seattle Pacific was third with a 189.9. Boise’s Krystine Jacobsen won the all-around with a 39.125.
Over in New Jersey, Rutgers just finished up their first home meet of the season in a loss against Illinois, 195.5 to 191.6. Rutgers had four falls on bars, counting three for just a 46.3 on that event.
FRIDAY JANUARY 15
11:51 pm. The UC Davis meet is still going on, but Boise State had a killer floor rotation with a 49.125 including a 9.9 from Sandra Collantes, who competed as an elite for Peru! I’m done live blogging for now but will update when this meet is over with the full results.
11:49 pm. Sacramento State defeats San Jose State, 194.9 to 193.4. I kind of love Sacramento State…if they can just get a little more clean work on vault and bars, they’d be right up there in like, high 195 and low 196 territory. Their beam and floor are great.
11:46 pm. Pascoe-Long, SJSU, FX- Big double pike to start in her very energetic routine. Front full front lay, step forward. Great double tuck to finish! 9.725
11:45 pm. McCartney, Sacramento, BB- Lovely front aerial to beat jump. Front aerial to bhs, just a tiny check. Split jump to straddle 3/4. She’s very cautious in all of her work. Nice full turn. Hit 1.5 dismount. Fantastic job from her today. 9.875
11:43 pm. Herr, SJSU, FX- Rudi, split jump, front tuck. Her music is “if you want my body, and you think I’m sexy, come on baby let me know” which a homeless guy used to always sing on the N train between 42nd and Prince when I was in college. Hits middle pass. Front lay front full. 9.725
11:42 pm. Caitlin Soliwoda, Sacramento, BB- Off on triple flight series. The rest is okay, just a wobble on her jump series. Hits 1.5 dismount.
11:40 pm. Won, SJSU, FX- Rudi loso right into the corner, and I think she had a foot go out-of-bounds. Hit the rest. 9.675
11:39 pm. Rice, Sacramento, BB- Press mount dropped to her elbows, which looks like a mistake but I don’t think it is. Bhs bhs loso, excellent. That alone makes up for her bars dismount fail. Full turn. Cat leap to side somi with a little windmill fight. Split jump to split 3/4. 1.5 dismount, small hop. 9.775
11:37 pm. Matos, SJSU, FX- Double pike, stumbled back and off the mat. Hits double tuck, and hits 1.5 to punch front. 9.475
11:35 pm. Benning, Sacramento, BB- Beautiful press mount. Solid bhs loso. Front aerial is clean. Switch half to beat jump, not a ton of amplitude. Stuck gainer full, albeit a little low. 9.825
11:33 pm. Bogdan, SJSU, FX- It sounded like they said “Alyssa Baumann” hahaha. I’m getting really tired after almost five hours of this. Solid double pike. Front lay to front lay half to stag jump. Double tuck, basically to her knees. Don’t know if they touched but it was close. Super deep. 9.425
11:32 pm. Konner, Sacramento, BB- One-armed bhs to loso, check. Standing loso, full turn, switch to tuck jump 3/4, stuck 1.5 dismount. Another great routine. 9.8
11:30 pm. Shepard, SJSU, FX- Opens with a solid Rudi. Front lay front full, step. 1.5 punch front, excellent job. 9.75
11:29 pm. Anderson, Sacramento, BB- Punch front tuck mount, slight wobble. Full turn, I think supposed to be connected to the beat jump. Solid bhs loso. Jump series is great. Small step on dismount. 9.725
11:21 pm. Benning may have gotten a 10 from one judge? Everyone’s screaming “oh my god, you got a 10!!!” but her score is coming up as 9.9. Unless everyone’s drunk. That might be it.
11:17 pm. Benning, Sacramento, FX- Big double tuck to open. Front lay to front full with a step. Finishes with an excellent double pike. 9.9
11:15 pm. Unpingco, SJSU, BB- Perfect punch front tuck mount. Switch to split jump to stag, not at 180 on the first two. Bhs loso, solid. Nails dismount. Great work there from start to finish. 9.7
11:13 pm. Brenner, Sacramento, FX- Punch Rudi to loso with the most tucked legs I’ve ever seen. Double pike and a double tuck to finish. 9.75
11:12 pm. Herr, SJSU, BB- Switch to straddle jump. 1.5 dismount with a step. They only showed those last two bits, apparently because she was doing beam while Williams was on floor? Okay? 9.725
11:09 pm. Williams, Sacramento, FX- She apparently did the Ezhova on bars in an exhibition routine earlier! Front double full, a little under-rotated. Hits front lay front full. I probably missed her middle pass, as per usual. Excellent choreo though. 9.75
11:08 pm. Allison Bellingham, SJSU, BB- Hits flight series, split jump to straddle 3/4. There are two Bellinghams. I got confused. 1.5 dismount, hit. 9.675
11:07 pm. Konner, Sacramento, FX- Fell back on double pike, crunched her ankles but she’s fine. Finishes with whip to 1.5 to punch front. Messy. I missed the opening pass. 9.025
11:04 pm. Kaschak, SJSU, BB- Bhs bhs loso, hits it at first but then second-guesses the landing, grabs the beam, and falls. Full turn. Switch to split jump. Hit 1.5 dismount. 8.85
11:02 pm. McCartney, Sacramento, FX- Great 2.5 to open it up. Hits double tuck. Front lay front full. Nice and solid work. 9.875
11:00 pm. Bogdan, SJSU, BB- Clean full turn. Front toss to back tuck, great. Switch to back pike. Hits gainer pike dismount. 9.675
10:59 pm. Schmeiss, Sacramento, FX- I generally like this team a lot on floor and she’s already having fun. Double pike, lunge back. 80s video game ish music. Front lay to front full. Solid jumps. Nails double tuck. Excellent! 9.8
10:58 pm. Amy Bellingham, SJSU, BB- Standing loso to beat jump. Solid bhs loso. Switch to straddle 3/4, doesn’t get anywhere near enough amplitude on the latter, is at maybe 90 degrees and wobbles. Hits dismount with a step. 9.6
10:57 pm. Utah State beat Kent State 194.1 to 193.5.
10:55 pm. Utah finishes 196.725 to Southern Utah’s 195.6. Looks like the Utes had a killer bars rotation at a 49.475, but were kind of ‘meh’ elsewhere, and Kari Lee had a fall on floor. Samantha Partyka and Breanna Hughes were the standouts.
10:49 pm. Kaschak, SJSU, UB- Nice Tkachev, pak, and full-out dismount, though at the end of the landing she pops forward, chest down with a big step. 9.6
10:48 pm. McCartney, Sacramento, VT- Handspring front pike half, great landing. 9.8
10:47 pm. Herr, SJSU, UB- Ooh, I missed the beginning, but she had a really cool pirouette…maybe a front giant full and it went straight into the Jaeger? But she face-planted the Jaeger, sadly. Finished strong. 9.075
10:46 pm. Caitlin Soliwoda, Sacramento, VT- Chest down on FTY. 9.625
10:45 pm. Unpingco, SJSU, UB- Beeeautiful kip cast?! Never knew I could appreciate that. Maloney, bail is clean but off handstand, her swing is just so lovely. Double layout, small hop. 9.65
10:44 pm. Konner, Sacramento, VT- Her name is Julia and they’re calling her JU. Do I have to explain why this is hilarious? Yurchenko half, good distance, big step forward. 9.825
10:43 pm. Allison Bellingham, SJSU, UB- Jaeger, nice. Bail is way off and there’s leg separation. Stuck full-in with feet apart. 9.775
10:42 pm. Schmeiss, Sacramento, VT- FTY, best of the meet so far. Comes in a bit close to the table on the back handspring and takes a small step. 9.775
10:41 pm. Shepard, SJSU, UB- Shaposh to overshoot, clear hip to giant full to double tuck, chest down and a step forward but she’s thrilled! 9.65
10:40 pm. Rice, Sacramento, VT- FTY, lands with chest completely down and steps to the side. 9.475
10:39 pm. Won, SJSU, UB- Giant half to Jaeger, short on handstand before straddle back, niiiiice full-twisting double layout! Just a step. 9.75
10:38 pm. Brenner, Sacramento, VT- Yurchenko layout, several steps back. 9.3
10:33 pm. SJSU and Sac State are in warm-ups now. Sac State actually leads 48.35 to SJSU’s 48.25.
10:31 pm. Oklahoma never has all-arounders but tonight, they had two! Keeley Kmieciak won with a 39.425 and Chayse Capps was second with a 39.2. Shame about Chayse’s floor issues…it was an otherwise solid night for her.
10:28 pm. Iowa defeated host team Michigan State 194.9 to 192.575 after MSU counted a fall on beam.
10:26 pm. Benning, Sacramento, UB- Gaint half to front giant half, very aggressive swing. Stalder to bail to Ray, good work! Huge double layout, just takes a tiny step. 9.775
10:25 pm. Matos, SJSU, VT- Yurchenko layout half, body is a little loose but it’s a solid landing. 9.825
10:24 pm. McCartney, Sacramento, UB- Bail to toe shoot, nice. Clear hip not to handstand, into a Gienger with some leg separation. Legs fall apart a little before her double tuck dismount, but it’s a good landing. 9.55
10:23 pm. Pascoe-Long, SJSU, VT- FTY, gets a lot of distance but no height, lands way under-rotated with chest down and hand touches the mat. 8.95
10:22 pm. Rice, Sacramento, UB- Bail, great handstand before the giant half to Markelov, nice! Ooh, peels off the bar before her dismount, sits down, laughs, and walks away. Well, that’s one way to have a reaction to a fall. This is Taylor Rice’s younger sister, btw. 9.2
10:21 pm. Heinl, SJSU, VT- Yurchenko tuck full, way off to the side and she steps off the mat. 9.3
10:20 pm. Caitlin Soliwoda, Sacramento, UB- Everything hit so far, last handstand a little short, double layout stuck! Nice. 9.75
10:19 pm. Herr, SJSU, VT- Yurchenko layout half. Stuck! 9.75

10:17 pm. Won, SJSU, VT- FTY, step back. 9.725
10:16 pm. Ng, Sacramento, UB- Stalder, huge Tkachev right into an overshoot, hit double tuck dismount. Great work! 9.725

10:10 pm. Over at the SJSU vs Sacramento State meet now! Warm-ups for the first rotation are just beginning. And the meet is FREE if you wanna watch!
10:09 pm. Auburn defeats Kentucky, 196.275 to 195.175. It was a GREAT finish for Kentucky on beam, where they had their highest event score of 48.9. Auburn, meanwhile, was a little weak on floor, with everyone losing steam in their final passes. They get a 48.75 there but with a point lead over Kentucky, it’s no biggie.
10:07 pm. Georgia squeaks out a win with an awesome 196.775 to an awesome 196.7 for Arkansas. Seriously a great meet for both of these teams.
10:06 pm. Demers, Auburn, FX- Piked full-in to start is way short, and she drops forward, taking a minute to get back up. Well, not a full minute. Like two seconds. But she doesn’t jump right back up. Goes back into it with a front layout to front full. Double tuck, chest down slightly but hit. 9.125
10:05 pm. Hyland, Kentucky, BB- Switch to split jump is solid. Cat leap to front aerial to bhs, loooovely. Beautiful handstand hold. Cat leap to side aerial to tuck full. Lots of awesome connections for her. 9.825
10:04 pm. Oklahoma finishes 197.125 with a rough floor rotation (Lovan fell, Capps had some nonsense drama going on, SADLY). Cal finishes with 194.225 counting a fall on bars and another on beam. Texas Woman’s is at 188.25.
Wellick, Arkansas, FX- Excellent double pike to start. Front full front layout, great. Nails double tuck.
10:03 pm. Box, Georgia, BB- Tuck jump full. Bhs loso. Switch to straddle 3/4. Courtney loves the moonwalk so much. Front aerial to scale, lovely. 1.5, chest way forward and she takes a step.
Rott, Auburn, FX- Huge double layout to start! Solid front layout to front layout to front pike. Solid double pike to finish. Definitely the strongest thus far. 9.8
10:01 pm. McGlone, Arkansas, FX- Big double pike is in-bounds but then she steps out! Nooooo. Fierce 2.5. Beautiful twisting. Excellent performance here in the middle. Finishes very well.
Dukes, Kentucky, BB- She was rapping “Tricky” by Run DMC while warming up this rotation which is pretty awesome. Switch half. Awesome. Lovely full turn, bhs loso with the tiniest check. Front aerial, leg up slightly. Switch to straddle 1/4. Sissone with a tiny bobble. 1.5 with a tiny hop forward. This will be a huge score once she fixes all of those little mistakes. 9.7
9:59 pm. Rogers, Georgia, BB- Front aerial to wolf jump, solid. Full-twisting back handspring. Bhs loso, little slide back but she holds it. Full turn. Didn’t hold her back handspring 1/4 at all, just slid right down into straddling the beam. 1.5 dismount. I think Christa Tanella is on the sidelines for some reason?!
Hlawek, Auburn, FX- Beautiful double arabian! Drops down from the sky. Front full to front layout, steps gently forward like “I meant to take a step.” Moonwalk, everyone loses their shiz. Ugh, double tuck is way short, though. Step forward. All of the Auburn girls are losing steam on their final passes. 9.65
9:57 pm. Nelson, Arkansas, FX- Double pike into a controlled lunge. Courtney doesn’t like that lunge. Maybe it was a little wide. 1.5 to front layout. Excellent double tuck to finish.
I think Arkansas could actually win this thing!

Kluz, Auburn, FX- Tucked full-in, chest slightly down. Beautiful front full to front layout. Double tuck, chest down. 9.775
9:53 pm. Rosa, Kentucky, BB- Full turn, super quick and gorgeous. SOLID bhs layout. Front aerial is short and she kind of slams her foot down but covers it and doesn’t bobble. Cat leap to switch side. Bhs loso into her layout full dismount! Tiny bobble. 9.75
9:52 pm. Danna is SO happy for Rachel! Adorable.
MacMoyle, Arkansas, FX- Double pike, good landing, almost out-of-bounds but holds her heel up like a witch. Good 1.5 to front lay. Great double tuck to finish.
9:51 pm. Schick, Georgia, BB- Bhs loso. Front aerial to split jump. One-handed front handspring, pretty! Side aerial. Stuck gainer full but her butt was squatted.
Milliet, Auburn, FX- YAS ABBY ON FLOOR. Front layout to a gorgeous Rudi. 1.5 to front layout is a little short. Double tuck, chest down. 9.775
9:49 pm. Roemmele, Kentucky, BB- Big wait for her while they wait for a score issue. Full turn, bhs loso is lovely, sheep is a little low but it’s steady, huge check on side aerial but she fights like heck to keep it on. 1.5 with a hop forward. 9.525
9:48 pm. Kathy totally just asked Courtney a question and Court fully ignored her.
Canizaro, Arkansas, FX- Excellent double pike. Double tuck, stepped back but held it in bounds. Finishes with a 1.5 to front layout. Great job.
9:47 pm. Babalis, Georgia, BB- Front aerial to back loso, break at the hips. Switch to cat leap to full turn, big wobble but she fights. Front toss to beat jump. Stuck punch front full. She is one of 9 million gymnasts with a hands-free beam routine this year.
9:46 pm. Scaglione, Auburn, FX- This year is her first time making the lineup as a junior and she did great work at Oregon State. Front double full to punch front tuck, form in the first element is okay but could use some cleanup. Double tuck, chest down but a great landing. Rudi, a little over-rotated, steps back to steady. 9.75
9:45 pm. Dillard, Arkansas, FX- Rudi to start. Front full front lay to stag, nice control on the jump. 1.5 to front layout, great job. Big smile. Her underpanties have been hanging out all meet though. SOMEONE TELL HER.

Dukes, Kentucky, FX- Sidney is a freshman and she anchors literally everything. Beautiful double pike to start. Front full to front layout. Another fun routine with a great performance quality. Casual illusion turn. Excellent choreo down in splits. Double tuck is a tiny bit short, small step forward. Really her only issue. 9.825
9:33 pm. Nelson, Arkansas, BB- Missed the beginning of this. Punch front tuck. 1.5 with a hop. Think they had a fully hit rotation!
Atkinson, Auburn, BB- Full turn, bhs loso with a slight check, cat leap to front aerial, good landing. Switch to pike jump, good. Side aerial to 1.5 and her body line is SUPER tucked. 9.85
9:31 pm. Rogers, Georgia, FX- I keep wanting to write Canada after her name. Double arabian is quite low. 1.5 front lay. Finishes well with her double back, just a little step.
Puryear, Kentucky, FX- Punch Rudi into a loso, super powerful. Super sassy. Lots of fun choreo and she’s selling it well. Huge double tuck to finish, just scoots back the landing a tiny bit. 9.825
9:29 pm. McGlone, Arkansas, BB- Eeee go Sydney! Full turn, slight check. Bhs loso is solid. Switch, missed connection to loso, and there’s a bobble there but she fights and saves it. Hitch kick to straddle 1/4, good. Great double full, chest down a tiny bit.
Milliet, Auburn, BB- Split jump to sheep jump, BAMF. Nails the bhs loso. Full turn, slight check. Beautiful front aerial to sissone. Her beam music is that “wake me up when it’s all over” song LOL. Cat leap to gainer full, stuck! 9.85
9:27 pm. Box, Georgia, FX- Great double pike to open. 1.5 to front layout, steps forward. Huge double tuck, food lands right in the corner but I don’t think it’s out.
Phipps, Kentucky, FX- Double tuck is solid to start, front full front layout is also hit well, just a lunge. Solid Rudi to finish, though maybe a little over-rotated…but she controls what could’ve been a wild landing. 9.675
Over at Lindenwood, Oregon State won with a 196.35, not bad for the Beavers! But Lindenwood also KILLS it, 195.325. Nice. Bridgeport has a 194.15, Illinois State at 190.725, and UW Eau Claire with a 188.925.

Stuart, Kentucky, FX- Excellent stuck cold double pike to start. 1.5 to front layout, nice. Solid Rudi to finish. 9.775
9:22 pm. Engler, Auburn, BB- Taylor Swift in the background. Apparently missed her foot on her straddle mount and I didn’t even notice. Solid bhs loso, switch to straddle 1/4, gorgeous side aerial, 1.5 a little off, under-rotated. Takes a step back. 9.725
9:21 pm. Wellick, Arkansas, BB- Front aerial, check. Bhs loso, big wobble, saves it. Full turn. Excellent double full.
9:20 pm. Rosa, Kentucky, FX- Excellent double layout, just a tad short, but her form is great. Her music sounds a tiny bit like Jordyn Wieber’s 2012 music. But like a scary version. Switch side to Popa. Her choreo is excellent. Decent landing on front layout to front full. 9.675
9:19 pm. Babalis, Georgia, FX- No idea what her first pass was because they decided to cut to the camera guy standing behind a crowd of people and filming the backs of their heads. She hit it though! Runs out of front lay front full. Three steps. Double pike, hit.
Krippner, Auburn, BB- She was at World Champions Centre for her last year in level 10, by the way…attempted elite Full turn, bhs loso with a slight check, big switch leap to split jump, cat leap to front aerial to beat jump, 1.5 with a step back. 9.725

9:15 pm. Snead, Georgia, FX- So many Sydneys and Sydnies in this meet. I hope they were all named after the 2000 Olympics. Whip though to double tuck, great, as is the Rudi to split jump, though she wasn’t at 180 in the jump. Double pike, chest low.
Hlawek, Auburn, BB- Full turn, solid bhs layout, switch to split, beautiful front toss to beat jump, stuck 1.5! Great routine. What an awesome leadoff she is. 9.8
9:13 pm. Dillard, Arkansas, BB- Front aerial to bhs loso, and the ESPN screen is back. Is Arkansas having some sort of tornado? We got a tornado warning at NCAAs last year. BACK. Cat leap to side aerial, fierce. Switch to beat jump, to something else, who knows because the camera is zoomed into her toes. Side aerial, split jump. She’s solid. 1.5 stuck! A little off-center but fantastic. 9.875
9:12 pm. Okay, it’s Georgia 98.575 to Arkansas with 98.225. The feed just went to an ESPN screen so that’s fun.
9:10 pm. Live scores aren’t working but like 87% sure Georgia is leading. #QualityReporting
Auburn leads Kentucky by exactly a point, 98.45 to 97.45, at the halfway point.

Rosa, Kentucky, VT- FTY, super powerful, a little bounce on the landing. 9.75
9:02 pm. Wellick, Arkansas, UB- Shaposh to bail, short on the latter. Tkachev is good, maybe slight bent knees. Double front super low and she stumbles back. Didn’t see her sit but it was super low.
Kluz, Auburn, UB- Big Tkachev, straddle back, a little shy on handstands, and a stuck double layout. 9.875
9:01 pm. Marino, Georgia, VT- She sat her 1.5 last week, and her form’s definitely loose this week but she had a solid landing.
Stuart, Kentucky, VT- FTY, a little off-center, step back. 9.8
9:00 pm. Canizaro, Arkansas, UB- Maloney to bail, short. Great handstand before a Ray. EXCELLENT stuck double layout.
Engler, Auburn, UB- Jaeger, clean bail, big double layout with a step back. 9.825
8:59 pm. Snead, Georgia, VT- Solid FTY. Kupets is getting loud. She reminds me of Will Ferrell in some movie where he’s like I have trouble controlling THE VOLUME OF MY VOICE. Wait, that was Austin Powers. Mike Myers. 9.85
Davis, Kentucky, VT- Front handspring onto the board to front handspring into a front tuck, runs out of it a little wildly. 9.5

8:54 pm. Broussard, Georgia, VT- FTY, super big. Hop back. Kupets is saying HEIGHT!!!!! #NoTHclub
8:47 pm. Rogers, Georgia, UB- Stalder to Ricna to pak, a bit close on the catch. Toe on to van Leeuwen. Love that she’s doing this difficulty. Stuck double layout. Shame about the close pak but she did cover it up well.
8:46 pm. Nelson, Arkansas, VT- Way off to the side and her block is weird. FTY.
8:45 pm. Jay, Georgia, UB- Toe on to bail. Awesome Markelov which they’re calling a “full-twisting Tkachev.” Is this Kupets? Full-twisting double layout is awesome.
Auburn leads Kentucky going into the second rotation, 49.2 to 48.625.
8:44 pm. Wellick, Arkansas, VT- Excellent FTY, tiniest little hop.

Rott, Auburn, VT- Huuuuge FTY, big step back. 9.775

Central Michigan beat BYU 194.775 to 193.575.
8:34 pm. Beucler, Kentucky, UB- Giant half to Jaeger to overshoot, a bit short on handstands, full-in with messy open legs and a huuuuge step forward. Her knee definitely touches the mat. 9.5
8:33 pm. Just starting Auburn vs Kentucky now! Here we go with Auburn on vault and Kentucky on bars.
Krippner, Auburn, VT- Excellent clean FTY with a step back. 9.775
8:32 pm. Florida gets a huge 197.675 for their first home meet of the season, but UCLA also kills it with a 196.925! Excellent job to both teams. Turning to Arkansas and Georgia now!
8:30 pm. Caquatto, Florida, FX- I’ll never understand why she anchors floor, especially after Baker. Unless it’s all about score boosting. Front double full to front tuck to her butt. Yup, that’s why I question her being last. Rudi to split jump, jump gets about 90 degrees. Her straddle jumps are fierce though. Double pike a little rough on the landing but she stands it up.
8:28 pm. Francis, UCLA, BB- Front aerial to beat jump. We’re getting a bird’s eye view of this routine for some reason. Solid bhs loso. Switch to split jump. Full Y turn. Some woman in the crowd has her hands over her face like WOWSERS. Transverse side aerial to gainer full, beautiful.
8:26 pm. Baker, Florida, FX- I think I missed this one last week due to a stream issue…suuuuuper open pike on her Dos Santos. LOOOOVE that she has “Who Run the World” in this. Huge double pike, excellent landing. HEIGHTH ALERT. The only person who gets as mad about HEIGHTH as I do is Aimee Boorman.Clearly we are in the right. 1.5 to front half to straddle jump. Excellent work.
8:25 pm. Lee, UCLA, BB- Switch to split jump. Side aerial to layout and she’s off the beam. Double turn is lovely though. Side aerial to layout full, steps to the side.
8:23 pm. Sloan, Florida, FX- 1.5 through to 2.5, a tiiiiny underrotated on the latter. 10! 10! 10! Double pike. Omg that double jointed shoulder business, I didn’t notice that last week. 1.5 front layout, good landing.
8:21 pm. DeJesus, UCLA, BB- Whenever I see Sabrina I flash back to the 2011 WOGA Classic when her club coach fully screamed at her in front of lots of people for making mistakes in the qualifier. Front toss to back handspring is great, and her flexibility hold is lovely. Switch leap to shushunova. Front gainer full is WAY out of whack, and she takes a couple of steps to the side and off the mat.
8:19 pm. Boren, Florida, FX- Tucked full-in, a little bobble on the landing. Takes a solid five seconds to just lay face flat on the floor which is what I would absolutely do after a full-in. 1.5 to front layout, solid. Open double tuck, just brings her feet together.
8:17 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, BB- Jordyn watching Katelyn mount beam is PAINFUL. LORD. The first interviews I ever did in covering gymnastics were at the 2010 U.S. Classic with Jordyn, Katelyn, and Kyla Ross on the podium. The passage of time is brutal. Bhs bhs layout is solid. Nails everything, double pike dismount is with her chest low and a step. Love the difficulty though.
8:16 pm. Fassbender, Florida, FX- 2.5 to front tuck a little short but she covers it well. Double pike into a controlled lunge. 1.5 to front pike, steps just out-of-bounds.
8:13 pm. Meraz, UCLA, BB- Bhs bhs loso with a big wobble, almost off but she’s using her booty power to pull her back up. And her abs. Good jumps. Sticks 1.5 dismount.
8:12 pm. McLaughlin, Florida, FX- Front layout front full, not bad. Hits Rudi with chest slightly down. 1.5 to open front pike. Hit!
8:10 pm. Gerber, UCLA, BB- Can’t get over how much I adore her mount. Wolf turn with a little bobble at the end. Front aerial to beat jump. “Chandelier” is her music so YAY. Bhs loso. Switch to split jump. Gainer full with a step. Nice work!
8:05 pm. #SloanScoring in effect tonight but what can you do? A few years ago it was #ZamBonus. Such is life, my friends.
8:00 pm. Florida has a 148.375 to UCLA’s 147.85.
7:58 pm. Bynum, UCLA, FX- Double layout, awesome double tuck side pass. Double tuck, good, chest just down a little.

7:54 pm. Cipra, UCLA, FX- Great double tuck to open. Ugh no the cell phone routine, I forgot about this. I’m sorry, for real, standing around pretending your phone is ringing for 10 full seconds is not choreography. I don’t know how that isn’t an automatic deduction. I’m always too infuriated to care about her middle pass but she hits it, finishes with a straddle jump to front tuck. Double pike to finish is good.
7:53 pm. McMurtry, Florida, BB- Cat leap to front toss, great. Bhs loso. Shushonova to back hip circle, tradition! Double full dismount with a tiny hop.
7:51 pm. Mossett, UCLA, FX- Another 2010 junior nationals competitor. Whip right into the double tuck, hop. I missed the middle pass but she has a great double pike to finish!

7:48 pm. Francis, UCLA, FX- Whip through to double tuck, good. 2.5 not fully rotated, stumbled around a little. Double pike, chest down.
7:45 pm. Fassbender, Florida, BB- Front aerial, bhs loso, both nice. Good sissone to sheep jump. Hit dismount.
So far everyone who has competed in this rotation was at 2010 junior nationals. NUSH GONNA RUIN IT.
7:44 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, FX- Double tuck, two steps back. Here we go, 1.5 front full front half split jump front tuck YAS. I got it all and so did she. Love this fun choreo. Nice illusion turn. Double pike a bit low in the knees and chest.
7:42 pm. Ernst, Florida, BB- Yas the Texas Dreams 2010 junior beam lineup, here we go. Front toss with a tiny check. Full turn, another check. Front aerial to back tuck, good. Split jump to sheep jump, check. Stuck gainer pike dismount.

7:39 pm. Baker, Florida, BB- Wolf turn full is back in but you ain’t Finney! Jk it’s great. Front aerial to back handspring. Split jump to split half, nice. Side aerial to layout full with a great landing.
7:34 pm. After two rotations, Florida’s at 98.925 and UCLA is at 98.475.
7:31 pm. Ahhhh I love the judge that gave Bridget a 10 for her bent leg giants. Was it the same judge that gave Alicia a 9.95? Maybe her angle is not as good as mine. #BenefitOfTheDoubt
7:30 pm. Sloan, Florida, UB- Ray, toe on to bail toe toe shoot, bends knees on a giant for some reason. Weirdest giants ever? Double layout stuck.
7:29 pm. Hall, UCLA, VT- EXCELLENT landing on her Yurchenko 1.5 (feet apart but stuck cold) though she has Brestyans legs.
7:28 pm. No way in HELL did Boren and Dancose-Giambattisto get the same score LOL.
Caquatto, Florida, UB- Ray, excellent. Toe on to bail to pike circle. Great double layout, small hop back.
7:27 pm. Bynum, UCLA, VT- Yurchenko layout half, good form but no block and she steps forward.
7:26 pm. Dancose-Giambattisto, Florida, UB- Toe on to Maloney to bail, all very clean. Last handstand is solid. So floaty. Double layout, slight leg separation and a small hop back after a solid landing.
7:25 pm. Cipra, UCLA, VT- FTY with a big rebound back. UCLA is getting murdered on landings.
7:24 pm. Boren, Florida, UB- Tkachev with bent knees, clear hip to wild bail, stuck double layout cold!
7:23 pm. Honest, UCLA, VT- FTY, not a ton of height, body line looks loose, hop on the landing.
7:22 pm. Baker, Florida, UB- Big Ray. Bail to toe shoot, very nice. Toe half to double front with a little hop back.
7:21 pm. Meraz, UCLA, VT- FTY, hop on the landing. Decent.
7:18 pm. So Florida leads 49.4 to UCLA’s 49.35. Love it! I hope it stays this close.
7:15 pm. Mossett, UCLA, UB- Giant full to Gienger to overshoot, nice. GREAT handstand before the giant full to double tuck, stuck. Tbh that was one of their cleaner routines.
7:14 pm. Cheney, Florida, VT- Exhibition. Huge FTY with a big rebound back.
7:13 pm. Meraz, UCLA, UB- Over-arches first handstand, toe on to bail with slight leg separation, overdoes the next handstand before her Tkachev, short on last handstand, hits double layout with her chest down, legs apart, and a hop forward.
7:12 pm. McMurtry, Florida, VT- Huge flared FTY. Beautiful as usual. Literally perfect. 9.925
7:11 pm. DeJesus, UCLA, UB- Giant full to Gienger is nice, some of her better form. Slight leg sep on bail, full-in with cowboyed legs in the second flip.
7:10 pm. Boren, Florida, VT- Yurchenko 1.5, muuuuch better than last week, when she sat. Actually gives it WAY more oomph and gets great height and excellent rotation. Small hop forward. 9.9
7:09 pm. Metcalf, UCLA, UB- Maloney to bail, toe shoot, not bad. Short on handstand, giant half to double front with a hop and cowboyed form. Wieber Fever looked like she was gonna jerk the mat out from under her feet. 9.85
7:08 pm. Baker, Florida, VT- I feel like I’m watching 2010 U.S. nationals with these last three names. Yurchenko 1.5, huge, and with an awesome landing! Yay, you go girl.
7:07 pm. Ohashi, UCLA, UB- Toe on to bail (leg sep), short on a handstand before a super low Tkachev, stuck full-in! Better than last week.
7:06 pm. Sloan, Florida, VT- Clean FTY, just bounces a tiny bit in place. She apparently sat a Yurchenko 1.5 in warm-ups.
7:05 m. Honest, UCLA, UB- Nice first handstand, clear hip to HUUUUUGE Tkachev. JEEZ. Might be the angle but that looked like it was like 30 feet above the bar. Giant half to straddle back to pike circle. Short on last handstand. Big full-in with a step back.
7:04 pm. Fassbender, Florida, VT- FTY with a big hop back.
The Missouri stream is being weird on my phone so I’ll probably go back later and “live blog” it after the fact.
7:03 pm. The FTY has been “degraded” apparently LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Truth.
Francis, UCLA, UB- Worst angle ever. Maloney to bail to toe shoot, all great. Giant full to double pike with a hop back. Good work.
7:02 pm. Caquatto, Florida, VT- FTY, big rebound back.
7:01 pm. The Missouri link isn’t live yet but I’ll add that soon. This commentator just said Peyton EARNEST. Nope. Get out.
6:59 pm. I tweeted it yesterday, but there are 9 former U.S. national team members competing at the Florida vs UCLA meet tonight. 10 if you count Jordyn Wieber ‘competing’ as team manager. Insane!
6:57 pm. Getting started with warm-ups now. “If your toes aren’t pointed, Coach Rowland will tell you your toes aren’t pointed.” Wow she must be the only coach to say that to her gymnasts probably.
6:46 pm. In about 15 minutes I’ll start live blogging Florida vs UCLA and Alabama vs Missouri. At 8 pm, I’ll add Arkansas and Georgia, and then we’ll see where the night takes us. Happy NCAA Friday!
THURSDAY JANUARY 14
12:04 am. That’ll do it for LSU vs NC State! Results are available here.
In other news, New Hampshire defeated Yale with a huuuuge 196.075 to Yale’s 189.7. That’s massive for the Wildcats! Looks like they had killer beam and floor rotations…congrats to them! Results for that meet are here.
12:01 am. Live scores aren’t updating to include the last two for either team but doing some quick math, I’m seeing LSU finishes with 195.825. Ooh, and Woodford’s score just went up…NC State finishes with 193.625.
11:57 pm. Macadaeg, LSU, FX- She was like, the second alternate for this event but had to step in with both Hambrick and Gauthier out. Gauthier was the alternate, supposed to go in for Hambrick, but I think Macadaeg had the better warmup. Solid double tuck, front full to front layout, both landed well. Double pike, controlled lunge. Fantastic job! She’s like the Mai Murakami of this team with her second alternate last-minute “WE NEED YOU” fierceness. 9.95!!
11:56 pm. Woodford, NC State, BB- Bhs loso. Full turn. Beat jump to straddle 3/4, wobble and her legs were at like 90 degrees. Just didn’t get the amplitude. Switch leap. Gainer loso, nice. Ooh, 2.5 dismount! Gets it around but just has to step to the side a bit to steady it. 9.6
11:53 pm. Gnat, LSU, FX- Double layout, huge, great landing. 2.5 with messy legs to punch front tuck, excellent landing though. Great double pike to big applause, just steps back. 9.9
11:52 pm. A. Fillard, NC State, BB- Split leap, nice way to travel the beam. Bhs bhs loso is very steady. Full turn. Front toss a bit low but no bobbles. Beat jump to straddle 3/4. Stuck gainer full, chest down a tiny bit. 9.55
11:50 pm. Zamardi, LSU, FX- Love her opening choreo. Super powerful double arabian with a great landing, just steps forward but in control. 1.5 to front layout, lovely. Crashes Rudi to her knees. Such a weird fall after an otherwise super solid routine. 9.325
11:48 pm. Wild, NC State, BB- Full turn, roundoff to loso, nice. Switch to switch half to beat jump is solid. Big wobble on side aerial or somi, the landing was too wonky to tell, but she fights and keeps it on the beam. Stuck 1.5 dismount. 9.55
11:47 pm. Wyrick, LSU, FX- Tucked full-in with a controlled lunge to huge applause, excellent. Whip to front lay to front lay half, crowd loves it. A lot going on and it’s super well-done. Double tuck, stuck, chest slightly down. 9.9
11:45 pm. Watkins, NC State, BB- Bhs loso, wobbles a bit. And her legs are also slightly bent. Beat jump to split 3/4. Hesitant before punch front tuck to wolf jump but hits it well. Switch leap. 1.5 way low in a deep squat but stands up out of it. 9.5
11:43 pm. Cannamela, LSU, FX- Big double tuck bounced back. Whip to layout full, I think, it got kinda choppy. Crashes double pike. 9.05
11:41 pm. C. Fillard, NC State, BB- Switch with a bent back leg to tuck 3/4 jump. Bhs loso with bent knees. Cat leap to front toss. Full turn. Stuck gainer full! Great job for her, she’s THRILLED. 9.675
11:40 pm. Ewing, LSU, FX- Front double full, awesome job! Front full front layout, also great. Loves dat front tumbling. Double pike into a lunge. Love the drum line music. 9.85
11:38 pm. Knight, NC State, BB- Front aerial, nice. Bhs loso, solid but with bent legs. Switch to straddle 1/4, nice extension. OOOOH full turn in attitude. Don’t usually see that on beam. Had excellent control. Beat jump to stag jump. 1.5, nearly stuck, just a tiny little movement.9.775
11:37 pm. Getting ready for rotation 4 to begin! Hambrick is NOT competing…she’s icing. Doesn’t seem serious but apparently her fall was pretty nasty.
11:30 pm. LSU gets a 48.125 counting two falls on beam. NC State finishes floor with a 48.225. LSU maintains the lead, 146.9 to 145.475 going into the final rotation.
A. Phillips, NC State, FX- Exhibition from the freshman. Sits double arabian to start, but has a solid 1.5 to front pike second pass. Rudi to finish.
11:26 pm. Watkins, NC State, FX- Excellent piked full-in. 1.5 to low punch front tuck. Hit final pass. Solid routine for the anchor! 9.775
11:24 pm. Gnat, LSU, BB- Front aerial to beat jump, good. Switch to straddle 1/4. Switch side, lands too far back, and falls. Bhs loso with bent knees but a good landing. Double full, stuck with chest down. 9.4
11:22 pm. Woodford, NC State, FX- Double pike to start, chest down. 2.5 to punch front tuck, good job. Punch front Rudi to OOPS I DID IT AGAIN BLESS BLESS BLESS BLESS. 9.775
11:20 pm. Finnegan, LSU, BB- EEEEEEE HERE WE GO. She has a wait for Ewing’s score. Another really long wait, too. The most recent floor scores are coming in before the beam scores two routines ago. Okay, NOW here we go. Triple wolf turn, E. P. I. C. DEEEEEAAAAAAR LOOOOOOOOORD. Better than week one. Nails bhs loso series. Switch to switch half with a bobble but she holds it. Great connection speed though, better than most elites hit that leap series. Side somi. Side aerial to layout full, stuck! UGH aside from that wobble it was PERF. 9.85
11:17 pm. P. Phillips, NC State, FX- Double arabian, comes in a bit low and steps out-of-bounds. Just kind of walks around aimlessly before second pass, a 1.5 to front pike with a step forward. Rudi with chest down. Hit routine, landing errors aside.
11:15 pm. Ewing, LSU, BB- Long wait as they try to figure out wtf to do with Cannamela’s routine. Over two minutes after the floor routine ends. Hesitates before bhs layout series, and she has bent knees and a wobble but hits. Cat leap to switch side. Music is “Hallelujah” which I love. Standing loso to straddle 1/4 is an awesome connection, very unique. Stuck 1.5 cold. 9.7
11:11 pm. C. Fillard, NC State, FX- Double tuck, again missed the beginning so couldn’t tell if it was a full or not, but either way it was hit. 1.5 to front pike with a step out. Double pike a little short and bounced forward a bit. 9.525
11:10 pm. Cannamela, LSU, BB- She did an exhibition last week and replaces Lexie Priessman this week. Full turn, bhs loso, very nice, lands with feet perfectly together but she has a little balance check. Switch to straddle 1/4 with flexed feet. Standing loso, a little short. Beat jump meant to be connected but not. Suuuper short on 1.5 off the beam, squats, and then sits. LSU will count a fall. 9.25
11:08 pm. Tamburro, NC State, FX- Double tuck, bounces back into a lunge. 1.5 to front layout half, kind of loses body awareness in the air as she bounces out a little. Double pike, way short, and as she skids forward she yanks her hands back so she doesn’t touch the floor. AWESOME. But she almost touches it with her head, it looks like. Good save, though! 9.425
11:06 pm. Hambrick, LSU, BB- Full L turn, frozen feed. *tears for years* Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by FloGymnastics. Or by my internet connection? Got back into it for her hitch kick to side aerial, and the commentator said “much better that time” so did she fall or what on a first attempt? No one knows. I’m gonna say she fell. Bhs loso, nice. Double full, nearly stuck. She looks a little depressed so I guess she fell. Also she looks like she might be a little hurt so I’m guessing it was a rough fall. Walking off with a trainer now. Yeah, she fell. 9.3
11:03 pm. Itcush, NC State, FX- Some sort of double tuck, maybe with a full-in, who knows, the camera literally isn’t even trying to follow her, LOL. It’s like wherever she is, the camera is in the opposite part of the ballroom. COOL. Here we go, 1.5 to front pike, nice. Low double pike, chest way down. 9.65
11:01 pm. Macadaeg, LSU, BB- She’s doing every little movement exact to her beam music. LOVE. Switch to switch half to beat jump, beauteous. Front aerial to straddle jump. Oh my god her ARM CHOREO I CAN’T BREATHE. It’s literally perfect?! Bhs loso, peeeeerfect. Stuck gainer full with her chest down. HOT DAMN. 9.875
10:57 pm. 49.35 for LSU on bars and 48.825 for NC State on vault. LSU now leads 98.775 to 97.25. Touch warm-up time!
10:54 pm. Cannamela, LSU, UB- Solid Tkachev, bail is a little eh but she gets it there, short on last handstand, big full-in with a step back. Good work for this exhibition routine!
10:53 pm. Sorry, when I said “Savona must be injured” I meant like, coming into this meet, not that she got injured on bars tonight in case anyone was fearing the worst. Because I’ve never seen her really look that rough before…fall aside, it was just a hard routine for her to get through.
10:52 pm. Zamardi, LSU, UB- Over-arches a little in handstand on the low bar, and the feed is so choppy it froze right on her transition…looks like she probably did some kind of shaposh. Maloney maybe. Markelov, double arabian dismount with a step forward. 9.85
10:51 pm. Watkins, NC State, VT- Sits Yurchenko 1.5 just as she did in the warm-up. She gets the rotation ALMOST there but is just a little short and lands it too far back on her heels, kinda like Kyla Ross’ Amanar at Trials in 2012. 9.275
10:50 pm. Finnegan, LSU, UB- Great Ray, toe on to bail to toe shoot, all good. Beautiful stuck double layout! YAS GIRL. 9.95
10:49 pm. Knight, NC State, VT- FTY, definitely close to the table, hops it back. 9.75
10:48 pm. Wyrick, LSU, UB- Good first handstand, a little short on the giant full to Tkachev, which is like, high up over the bar but doesn’t get a great flight OVER the bar if that makes sense. Solid height, no distance. But whatever, she catches! Hits double layout dismount with a step.
10:47 pm. A. Phillips, NC State, VT- Huge FTY, step back. Great distance there!
10:45 pm. Savona, LSU, UB- Over-arches first handstand, takes extra swings to regroup, shaposh to high and her hands come nowhere close. Falls hard on her back. Starts routine over, hits shaposh this time. Messy bail, giant full to Tkachev is low, way short on last handstand, and then a stuck double layout. That was a mess of a routine but a great finish, so there’s some positive? She’s gotta be injured, right? 9.125
10:44 pm. C. Fillard, NC State, VT- There are two Fillards here. This one, Caitlyn, is a freshman. Big FTY with a step back. Good work! 9.8
10:43 pm. Hambrick, LSU, UB- Huge Ray! Great handstand before giant full to bail to toe shoot, all good so far. Stuck full-in. WHAT a routine!! 9.875
10:42 pm. Well, the vault cam just went down…oh hey, here it is.
Tamburro, NC State, VT- Lovely clean FTY, stuck! Not a ton of pop off the table but just a really floaty vault. 9.8
10:41 pm. Gnat, LSU, UB- Short on first handstand. Giant full to huge Gienger. Overdoes next handstand and is a little short on her bail, toe shoot, huge floaty double layout to finish. She has so many extremes…for as rough as one skill can be, the next one is opposite-extreme solid. 9.75
10:40 pm. A. Fillard, NC State, VT- Good FTY to get them started, just a step back on the landing. 9.7
10:38 pm. Watkins just sat a Yurchenko 1.5 in warm-ups. Hopefully she can bring it in the meet? Rotation two is starting now!
10:33 pm. So, great work from both teams so far. NC State definitely gets docked for things like missed handstands but overall they have some nice work, some good combos, and some very strong skills!
Lineup for LSU on bars is Gnat, Hambrick, Savona, Wyrick, Finnegan, and Zamardi, with Cannamela as the exhibition.
10:30 pm. LSU starts off the meet with a 49.425! NC State comes away from bars with a 48.425. No falls for either team yet. YAY!
Sobhan, NC State, UB- Exhibition. Piked Jaeger, looked like her knees were bent. Short on bail and last handstand. Lovely straight double layout with a step back.
10:29 pm. Szafranski, LSU, VT- Exhibition. FTY, a little piked but hit! Her first collegiate routine.
10:28 pm. Fillard, NC State, UB- Giant full to Gienger to overshoot, good job there. Short on last handstand. Double layout is a little piked but stuck cold! She looks thrilled. 9.65
10:27 pm. Gnat, LSU, VT- DTY, still in shock to see this at the NCAA level every single time. One of her better ones I think, looked good in the air and was HUGE. Just a small hop back. 9.9
10:26 pm. Watkins, NC State, UB- Short on first handstand, toe on to Gienger, good. Bail is messy and short, excellent double layout with a step.
10:25 pm. Hambrick, LSU, VT- FTY, super short and she came in way too close on the table. 9.8
10:24 pm. Knight, NC State, UB- Giant half to bail, a little wild but she controls it. Short on handstand before big Tkachev, full-in, chest down and a step. 9.75
10:23 pm. Wyrick, LSU, VT- Yurchenko layout half, another good landing, just a tiny hop. 9.875
10:22 pm. Turner, NC State, UB- Jaeger, straddle back to toe shoot, cool combo. Video froze on the dismount but she hit. 9.7
10:21 pm. Cannamela, LSU, VT- She only competed exhibitions last week. Clean FTY, good landing, just bounces in place. 9.85
10:20 pm. Wild, NC State, UB- Low Tkachev, right on the bar after her giant half before the bail to toe shoot, nice. Giant full to double tuck with a step back. 9.65
10:19 pm. Ewing, LSU, VT- Yurchenko 1.5 with a great landing. Just dropped right down and nearly stuck, just a tiny foot movement. Great rotation. 9.925, ties her career high
10:18 pm. Looks like DD Breaux is talking to the judges, maybe mad about Erin’s score? It’s TOO EARLY IN THE SEASON FOR THIS. Oh, they’re having problems with the scoring machine.
10:17 pm. Woodford, NC State, UB- Giant full, Gienger, the camera is completely cutting them off when they’re on the high bar. Oh, it’s better now. Full-in with a step back. Hit routine. 9.625
10:15 pm. Rotation one is about to go up. I have NC State in a tiny window and will update when I can.
Macadaeg, LSU, VT- Stuck FTY! Not bad. 9.875
10:14 pm. Lexie Priessman and McKenna Kelley are not competing today.
10:13 pm. Oh, there are multiple cameras and I had to switch to vault to watch. Don’t worry, I got it. There needs to be a split screen option.
10:11 pm. So we can’t watch the warm-ups between rotations I guess. Just a blank screen right now. I’ll be back when stuff is going down yo!
10:09 pm. I’m more judgmental about anthem singers at gym meets than I am about gymnasts. I USED TO BE AN ANTHEM SINGER, FUN FACT. At sports events and town hall meetings (?!) from age 15-17. Just SING IT and don’t make it a silly mess. Simple.
10:07 pm. Oh anthem singers. This chick’s trying REAL HARD to be ridiculous. Shame because she has a good voice. DON’T BE RIDICULOUS WITH THIS SONG. OH high notes and it’s not good at all. Too much riffing. Bye.
10:05 pm. Lots of LSU fans in the house tonight. I’m sure because it’s a J.O. invitational it’s lots of the competing gymnasts? That’s exactly that kind of thing I would do if I were them. Shae Zamardi and Ashleigh Gnat are getting the biggest applause. But Randii Wyrick is from Las Vegas so she gets CRAZY recognition.
10:02 pm. The meet intros are happening now! I’ll update again soon.

I’m with you hating the cell phone “choreo.” What makes me so mad is that I love the rest of her routine and the energy she puts into it. I’m a big Miss Val fan, but seems she’s getting tired.
The judges give Ashly Gnat too much love. 9.4 for that beam with a fall – seriously?!?

Yeah, she is one of the best performers the team has, maybe second to Danusia. It could be a cute routine, I guess? But for a young kid. And just the fact that the “choreo” is her walking around for a full 10 seconds makes me angry because she could be really dancing and performing and instead she’s just aimlessly wandering around with a toddler pageant expression on her face. SIGH. And yeah Gnat’s beam was way over-scored. The SEC is already a bit outrageous with their scoring…when I was watching Michigan today, routines I assumed would go 9.95 based on their Florida and LSU counterparts actually got 9.8s for the most part, lol. I like that tight scoring.
