NCAA Championships – Semifinal II Live Blog

Live from Ft. Worth for Semifinal II of the 2016 NCAA Championships! This session features Utah, UCLA, California, Nebraska, Alabama, and Oklahoma, as well as individual qualifiers Amanda Wellick (Arkansas), Brianna Brown (Michigan), Mollie Drenth (Iowa), Lisa Burt (MSU), Nina McGee (Denver), Madeline Gardiner (OSU), Lizzy LeDuc (Illinois), Taylor Allex (ASU), Shani Remme (BSU), Risa Perez (OSU), and Rachel Slocum (EMU)! At the conclusion of tonight’s event, we will know the three teams joining Florida, LSU, and Georgia in the Super Six tomorrow night, the 2016 AA champion, and the event winners. 9:38pm Capps to close out OU’s night on beam. This mount is so beautiful and controlled. Bhs + loso to beat jump. Bobble on front aerial. Switch leap + straddle 1/4. Stuck full dismount.

9:34pm McGee up on vault. Tsuk layout full. Small hop on the landing but great end to her college career!

9:32pm Natalie Brown of OU up on beam. You can see her WOGA training in her beam work. Front aerial + bhs. Switch leap + full dismount stuck.

 9:30pm Brannan for Bama on vault with ANOTHER stuck yurchenko 1.5!! Stick city on vault!

9:28pm Seilnacht for California on bars. Jaeger, bail to handstand, Front layout 1.5 twisting dismount (so unique and pretty!)

9:27pm Guerrero on vault. Yurchenko 1.5, split legs in the air but good landing.

9:25pm Kmieciak for OU up first on beam. Bhs + loso, slight wobble. Nice straddle 1/2. Stuck (her feet anyway) double tuck dismount.

9:17pm Nina McGee on floor. Definitely a crowd favorite here! Stuck solid double layout. Front handspring + front full + front layout. Finishes with a beautiful  double pike. Standing ovation from the entire crowd!!!

9:14pm Carley Sims to anchor floor for Bama. Nice double layout to open. Front handspring + front full + front pike, with a bound forward on her landing. Closes with a nice double pike.

9:11pm Beers on floor for Bama. Over rotated on her opening double layout but held on to only a small landing deduction. Finishes with a controlled double tuck.

9:09pm Wofford on bars for OU. Great routine (as always) with only a slightly close catch on a release. 9.937

9:05pm Bynum on vault for UCLA. Yurchenko arabian. Small step back.

9:02pm Meraz for UCLA up on vault. FTY with big hop back.

9:01pm McConkey up first for Nebraska on beam. Bhs + bhs + loso series. Messy sheep jump. Roundoff back 1.5 to dismount.

8:50pm Rachel Slocum up on floor. Very high double pike to open. Front full + front pike second pass. Finishes it up with a punch rudi (I think. I had a coach blocking my view!)

8:47pm Perez of OSU up on beam. Front aerial + one-armed bhs. Bhs + full dismount stuck.

8:45pm Standing acknowledgement from the crowd as they finally carry Laeng off the floor. Prayers for her recovery. Blanske and Williams of Nebraska and Burt of MSU getting a one touch before they continue bars competition.

8:44pm Sadiqua Bynum up on floor. Beautiful stuck double layout to open. Double tuck as a second pass with a little hop on the landing. Front tuck through to double pike to close. Great anchor set for UCLA!

8:42pm Nebraska team is very shaken.

8:38pm Richardson for Cal on vault. Tsuk full with a hop back on her landing.

Jennie Laeng of Nebraska still be tended to by bars. They are bringing a stretcher for her.

8:36pm Low energy in the arena after the fall, but Francis still hit a solid floor set for UCLA.

8:32pm Owens of Cal on vault. FTY. Chest down on landing with a step forward.

8:29pm Ohashi, a hometown girl with this crowd, up first for UCLA on floor. Such spunky choreography for the freshman! Opens with a nice double tuck. Signature second pass with 4 saltos and a jump! Finishes with a double pike, low chest on the landing.

8:21pm No changes in the event high scores at this point. Currently, however, 6 gymnasts are tied for third place on bars with a 9.9: Caquatto, Finnegan, Mable, Price, Bailey, and Lopez!

8:09pm Aja Sims of Bama up next on beam. Love her neck stand mount series. Split jump + Straddle 1/2. Front aerial + bhs very clean. Small hop on her double tuck dismount.9.9

8:05pm Robinson of Cal up next on floor. Opens with a tucked double arabian. Second pass is a back 1.5 to front layout. Finishes with a double pike but a little lack of control on the landing.

8:04pm Stuck FTY for Chayse Capps of OU.

8:03pm Schwab of Utah on bars. Nice tkachev. Lovely toe point. Short on her bail to handstand. Stalder into a stuck double tuck dismount. 9.875

8:01pm Brannan of Bama on beam. Solid bhs + loso. Small bobble on her switch leap + double stag with a head release. Nice front toss. Stuck back 1.5 dismount.

Stuck FTY for Kmieciak of OU.

7:59pm Hunter Price, a senior from OU up on vault. She performs a unique front handspring front pike 1/2, which under the new rules receives a 10.0SV. Improved consistency in exhibitions and the SV boost over the FTY gave her the opportunity to join the OU vault lineup part way through her senior year. Very nice with only a small hop on the landing!

7:46pm Over on beam Francis finishes up a great set with her signature aerial back layout full dismount.

7:45pm AJ Jackson up on floor for OU. Love the chalk blow at the beginning. Beautiful double pike to end a solid routine. Certainly an OU crowd favorite.

7:43pm McGee, a senior individual AA competitor from Denver, up on bars. Nice gienger + shootover. Stuck double layout dismount. 9.8875

7:41pm Blanske to anchor Nebraska on vault. Stuck yurchenko 1.5 with messy legs in the air.

7:38pm Kiana Winston of Bama on bars. Really close catch on the tkachev. Double layout dismount with a tiny hop.

7:35pm Schweihofer of Nebraska next on vault. Stuck FTY but low chest on the landing.

7:33pm Gerber up first on beam. Wolf turn, slight wobble on her bhs + loso series, side somi, full dismount stuck!

7:32 Alabama and OU are wearing basically the same leo tonight.

7:26pm Rotation 2 will feature Nebraska on vault, Alabama on bars, UCLA on beam, and Oklahoma on floor.

7:21pm Drenth of Iowa on beam. Very unique mount. Bhs + loso+ loso was solid. Stuck back 1.5 dismount!

7:18pm Brianna Brown of Michigan who is competing in the AA tonight as an individaul is up on bars. Beautiful lines in her cast handstand. A little close on her pak but saved it. Great double layout. 9.8

7:15pm Honest on UB for UCLA. High tkachev. Straddle back to handstand and a stuck full-in dismount.

7:12pm Hughes on vault for Utah. Yurchenko 1.5 with a little hop on the landing.

7:10pm Catelyn Orel for Nebraska up next on floor. Opens with a nice double pike. Double tuck as her second pass, a little out of the ordinary! Finishes with a back 1.5 to front layout. 9.8

Ohashi on UB for UCLA with a clean routine. A little low on her full-in dismount landing.

7:07pm On vault for Utah, Kassandra Lopez with a nice FTY, hop back on the landing. 9.825

7:06pm Up first for UCLA on bars is Danusia Francis! Stuck double pike dismount to cap off a great routine! 9.85

7:00pm In rotation 1 we will see Utah on vault, UCLA on bars, Cal on beam, and Nebraska on floor! It’s great to see how supportive the teams are of the individual athletes rotating with them today!
