Biles Headlines Next Week’s U.S. Classic

The ten-time world champion Simone Biles will headline the field at next weekend’s Secret U.S. Classic in Hartford, Conn., where 2012 Olympic gold medalists Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman are also set to compete.

These three are joined by their 2015 worlds teammates and gold medalists Madison Kocian, Brenna Dowell, and MyKayla Skinner as well as 2014 gold medalists Ashton Locklear and Alyssa Baumann. The senior field will also include first-year seniors Laurie Hernandez and Ragan Smith, both of whom competed as part of the Jesolo and Pac Rims teams earlier this spring, as well as Jazmyn Foberg, who will make her senior debut in Hartford.

The junior field will include Jordan Chiles, Deanne Soza, Emma Malabuyo, Trinity Thomas, and Gabby Perea, all of whom had strong performances at Gymnix and Jesolo earlier this year, as well as Morgan Hurd, who won the American Classic held at the ranch in Huntsville, Texas earlier this month.

Notably missing from the roster is the injured Maggie Nichols, who only just got back to training a couple of weeks ago and hopes to continue her fight for a spot on the Olympic team at nationals and Olympic Trials. Norah Flatley, a first-year senior who has been out for much of the year due to an injury of her own, is also not included, nor is Bailie Key, though coach Kim Zmeskal-Burdette of Texas Dreams tweeted that Key will indeed compete.

A full list of all senior and junior competitors is below. The U.S. Classic will be held at the XL Center in Hartford on June 4.

  1. Acording to the list on usagym.org , Flately is competing. Is this true? Also is Christina Desiderio competing? I know she made the national junior team last year but I haven’t heard/seen from her since.

  2. Can’t believe Norah is out 😦 apparently Marta told a few girls at camp they were unlikely to make the team, so they can start planning for college etc. Maybe Norah was one of them
