USA Gymnastics released the start lists this morning for this year’s P&G Championships, to be held in two weeks.
Maggie Nichols, who missed the U.S. Classic last week in order to continue healing from injury, is back on the roster for nationals, though it’s currently unclear as to which events she’ll compete. The current start lists have all 27 gymnasts listed for all four events each, though there will likely be several scratches during the meet.
Also back are Bailie Key and Sydney Johnson-Scharpf, though Norah Flatley is not on the start list and therefore will likely not be able to attend this year’s Olympic Trials, as nationals is the final qualifier.
Senior and junior start lists are below. This year’s competition will be held from June 23-26 at the Chaifetz Arena in St Louis, Missouri.

Lauren, do you have any idea what is going on with Norah? Did she just not qualify because she pulled out of classics or is she still injured and unable to compete?
(I assume if you did know you would have included it in the article but I figured I’d ask anyway just in case)

I don’t have concrete info, which is why I didn’t say anything, but I know she had foot (?) surgery a couple of months ago so it could just be that she wasn’t ready.

Thanks! I hope she gets healthy and slays in 2017.
P.S. Thanks for running such a great website & CONGRATS on your new job!

For a second I was wondering why that initial Senior beam Rotation 1 looked so big compared to the Vault rotation (two whole lines!) and then realized it was just because SJS’s last name took up extra space. Whoops.
Sad to see Norah not competing. Hope we’ll see her back next season.
Laurie and Ragan in the same rotation should be interesting. The top two contending new Seniors.
I can’t wait.

What is the rule for Olympic trials qualification?
Sad to see Norah not on the roster. Hopefully she comes back big in 2017!!

Excited to see how Maggie does in her first competition since March. And to see everyone not scratch events and actually compete the full AA 😂

There will be scratches for sure. Ashton Locklear, for example, doesn’t even train vault and floor. We’ll just have to wait and see who competes on what.

Yes, probably, but not, I would think, nearly as many as we saw at Classics. I totally understand why the gymnasts who scratched events at Classics did that, but as a fan, I like to see gymnasts do the full AA. 🙂

YASS I think Maddie Kocian has the spot now that she’s doing all around. TBT when Ashton was tumbling at the ranch. My predictions for first place:
Vault: Simone, Mykayla
Bars: Kocian, Locklear, Douglas
Beam: Simone and Laurie or Ragan in second and third… I don’t know which one, but I’m hoping for Ragan.
Floor: Simone, Aly, Maggie? I’m rooting for Ragan or Maggie for third because I’m pretty sure about the top 2. I could see Laurie sneaking in there too as well as Bailie depending on how she does.

Just a note, as it says in the article, everyone is listed for every event on the start lists. Scratches won’t be decided until after podium training, and at Classics, some girls listed for the AA right up until the meet ended up scratching on an event or two after warm-ups. Every athlete is listed to do all four events on this start list, including Ashton, who def isn’t doing vault or floor.

If Norah can’t make it to Olympics this year, does that means she won’t go to Olympics…like ever… since she already committed to UCLA? She looks healthy from Instagram pictures and all – yet no words on her from Instagram comments to Chow’s website….:/

I mean, she could try again in 2020 and defer school.

What happened to Bailie and Jazzy? And Nguyen and Freed, too? (Sorry If it’s mentioned in another post).

Darn, Kiya Johnson scratched too? I loved her floor at Classics — very different and dramatic and she seemed really connected to it. Hope she continues in elite.
