All-Around Standings After Subdivision 1

1. Nikita Nagornyy, Russia, 87.098
2. Artur Dalaloyan, Russia, 84.572
3. David Belyavskiy, Russia, 83.332
4. Andrei Muntean, Romania, 80.224
5. Loris Frasca, France, 78.899
6. Julien Gobaux, France, 78.531
7. Rasuljon Abdurakhimov, Uzbekistan, 75.598
8. Antoine Borello, France, 75.199

10:41 am. Daaaaaamn, just a 13.533 for Belyavskiy’s rings, and Nagornyy and Dalaloyan beat him into the final!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS SOUL CRUSHING.

10:38 am. Gobaux PB: A little rushed in some moments, just has tiny breaks, ankles come apart on a giant half, and then he rests his legs on the bars and has to come off. 😦

10:37 am. Belyavskiy SR: Straddle planche, legs are lower than his chest. Noticeable to me across the arena. Iron cross is good. Double front to double pike to iron cross, lovely control, gets applause. Arched handstand WAY over after that. Second handstand also pretty arched but not as bad. Hop on the full-twisting double layout dismount.

IT’S GONNA BE SO CLOSE.

87.0978 FOR NAGORNYY BTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASDIJFASK OMG

10:35 am. Dalaloyan SR: Moment of truth for him to see if he can best Belyavskiy. I don’t want it but I also kinda do. Saltos into an iron cross, great control. Holds the straddle planche well. Swinging a little on a handstand after that, then the next handstand takes a second to get straight. Full-twisting double layout, chest way low. Hmmmmm.

10:34 am. Dragulescu VT: Roche, step back, really nice height and chest position though. Only one vault!! Hella shocking, but I mean, he didn’t do his eponymous vault so I guess not really worth it with only a 5.2 D.

10:32 am. Lankin SR: Everything I saw from the start was good, fighting for solid handstands, dismount landed a little low, does he do a triple double?? It looked way too fast to be a double.

Muntean VT: Kaz 1.5, tiny hop forward.

Degouy PB: Solid routine!

10:30 am. Frasca PB: Some really nice and beautifully controlled work from him. Stuck double front!

Kotrong VT: Hit…kaz full I think?

I missed Nagornyy’s rings, THEY’RE SO FAR FROM MEEEE. 14.633 though!! What a day for him!

10:28 am. Tay FX: Went for a front full to Randi! A little short in the rotation but good effort. UGH 2.5 to Rudi, ended up tucking it, looked like he jammed his ankle too, but takes a second and then goes for the double arabian, sits it. Oof. Triple to finish is underrotated.

Dalaloyan less than a point ahead of Belyavskiy going into rings. GONNA BE CLOSE.

10:26 am. Nagornyy still in the lead, with a 72.465.

10:25 am. I missed all of Romania on rings, but they only competed three gymnasts, nothing from Kotrong, who was the anchor. I guess they were happy enough with the first three?

10:24 am. Dalaloyan PH: Confident one arm swing up into his pirouette handstand, then great transition and solid work on his flairs. UGH, legs apart whilst traveling and then he came off. 😦 Back on for the end, really just the rest of the travels and the dismount.

10:22 am. Abdurakhimov FX: Caught it from the 1.5 to front full. Nice double arabian after that! Double full. 2.5, a little unsure of the landing, but just a hop.

Just a 14.0 for Belyavskiy.

10:21 am. Belyavskiy PH: Really nice one-arm swing. Single pommel work is good, travels a little too rushed and his legs are getting wild. Gets control back for another single pommel swing, travels hit the dismount. A few iffy moments but overall strong…just nowhere near his best or what he needed to do here.

10:19 am. Borello VT: Just a kaz, step forward.

Azimov FX: Good routine, over time though, triple full to finish.

10:16 am. Frasca VT: Kaz double, excellent in the air, step back. Hit a great Dragulescu after that. Great job.

Kuksenkov PH: Scissors at the start, no problems, legs apart on one of his swings on his single pommel work, twirly handstand into his flairs, very nice transitions!! Speeds up through his travels and finds his rhythm well, THEN CAN’T GET HIS HANDSTAND UP BEFORE HIS DISMOUNT AND JUST FALLS OFF. LITERALLY. AT. THE. END. OF. ALL. THAT. Gets back on just for his dismount. Lord.

10:13 am. The true test for Russia is NOW. POMMELS!

Gobaux VT: Kaz full, step back.

Tay HB: Hit routine! Looks happy with that.

Nagornyy PH: Scissors, one arm swing was beautiful, slight form breaks near the end but overall this is really solid, great start.

10:10 am. Russia now 16 points ahead I’M SCREAMING

France was a point behind Romania before that pommels rotation, and now Romania is behind France by 8 points.

10:08 am. Szabo PH: LOLLLLL so he traveled across the horse and then just like, sat down at the end and was like bye. I can’t, Romania. Tries again and flies off the end this time. Muscled his handstand before the dismount.

10:06 am. I missed Bataga’s PH but only a 5 E score for him aldsja;ksdfjakldf YIKES Romania you were doing so good

10:03 am. Dalaloyan leading the AA right now with a 58.706, then Nagornyy with 58.465, then Belyavskiy with 55.799, I missed his floor completely but he only got a 12.5 GOD IF HE GETS TWO-PER’D OUT OF THE AA FINAL THO

10:00 am. Abdurakhimov HB: Yamawaki, layout Tkachev, fall. 😦 Hit the rest when he got back on.

Lankin FX: Triple back, casual, hop back. 3.5 with a punch out of it. Insane. 2.5 to Rudi is a mess, big step. Double double, a bit low with a hop. Front lay to barani side pass. Hit the rest.

I missed Kotrong on pommels but he had like a 4.0 E score which like YIKES. Muntean also had a fall that I saw.

9:55 am. Sorry, was catching up with Sir Scott Bregman super quick so I wasn’t typing through routines but nothing super crazy happened.

Nagornyy FX: Triple back is FIERCE. Rest of the routine is also great, finished with a triple full.

Frasca SR: Hit his double double dismount and the rest was good!

Dalaloyan FX: Front full to Randi, a bit messy but YAS. Front layout to piked double front. Great triple full to finish.

9:49 am. Romania is ahead of France which seems batshit crazy to me. But Russia is 11 points ahead of Romania.

9:47 am. Dalaloyan HB: Layout Kovacs, Kovacs, both good, layout Tkachev, layout Tkachev half, great hand position on that catch. I LOOOOVE how he hops right into L grip before his Yamawaki.

Dragulescu FX: Double double, little hop. Hit his next two passes well. Double full side pass. Hit the triple full at the end.

Borello PH: Bent his knees on his Russians but got it back, lots of form breaks throughout but he got through it.

Abdurakhimov PB: Looked mostly good, full-twisting double tuck dismount.

9:42 am. Kuksenkov HB: Layout Tkachev, German giants to a stalder, good catch on his straddle Tkachev half, lovely full-twisting double layout with a step.

Muntean FX: Piked double front is fab. Beautiful double front in the tuck position after that. Some great work in there. Hit routine.

Tommasone PH: Great work on his flairs, overall a beautiful routine!! Way to bring them back.

9:40 am. Nagornyy HB: Layout Tkachev, layout Tkachev half, straddle Tkachev, straddle Tkachev half, a little awkward on his half catches, one-arm full, double double layout dismount, mostly good, some form stuff and a hop.

Kotrong FX: 2.5 to Rudi, front full to double front low with a hop. Rest looked good, hop back on his triple full.

Frasca PH: I think I saw two falls from him out of the corner of my eye 😦

9:39 am. Abdusamatov PB: Sat his piked double back after an otherwise hit routine.

Aguero SR: Maltese not held quite long enough, neither was the straddle planche. A little shaky on his handstands, double front with a bit of a wild swing up to his L sit. Ooh, double tuck 1.5 I think for his dismount.

9:36 am. Leon SR: Hit routine, very little D.

Gobaux PH: Muscled his scissor to handstand, then completely misses a handstand out of his next scissors, literally is horizontal. Comes off right after that, just never got his rhythm. 😦

Tay VT: DTY, good!

Belyavskiy HB: Caught from the layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev half, stuck his dismount with his chest down. What I saw looked solid.

Szabo FX: 2.5 to front tuck, REALLY low, almost sat but holds it. Really low double front too.

9:35 am. Hhhhokay. I’m getting into the grove now with routines starting and me paying attention to the right thing.

Subdivision 3 will see Romania on floor, France on pommels, Peru on rings, Singapore on vault, Uzbekistan on p-bars, and Russia on high bar.

Russia has a 7 point lead over France already lmao. YOU KNOW, CASUAL. Romania third and Uzbekistan fourth.

9:31 am. Lankin PB: Full pirouette looked like it was gonna be off for a sec but he corrected it so quickly. Not as sharp so far as Dalaloyan was, a little muscly and his handstands have some weird hip angles throughout. Double front with a hop.

Muntean HB: Floaty Yamawaki, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev half caught a little awkwardly, straddle Tkachev, one-arm giant, some front giant stuff, stalder, double double layout with a little hop. Romania’s like hi we’re hitting?! Also I just realized I missed Muntean on PB earlier.

9:29 am. Degoy FX: Piked double front, little hop, front full to front double I think, then a randi. Double arabian stuck. Really solid so far. Little windmill on his double full side pass. 2.5 to finish, looks pumped! Great work.

9:27 am. Gobaux FX: I missed the beginning, lots of twisty combos. Double full side pass. A little low on his triple full to finish.

Khamrokulov VT: Stuck a Roche!

Dalaloyan PB: Beautiful control at the beginning on literally everything. Big and clean straddle salto. Brilliant one-arm swing. Handstands aren’t getting any less perfect throughout. Double front half-out stuck. That was delicious.

Bataga HB: I low key watched this and didn’t see anything majorly wrong with it. Another hit for them.

9:26 am. Belyavskiy PB: Looked a little rushed at the start and some of his handstands are a little short, but he stuck the double front half-out!

Leon PH: Lots of split legs throughout and he came off in the middle of his routine.

9:24 am. Nagornyy PB: Excellent from what I saw, double front half out with a little hop.

Frasca FX: Hopped out of the first pass I saw. GOD I wish there was a ding that took my head in the direction of something when it started, I’m missing everything. Really nice and high double front with a hop. BEAUTIFUL 2.5 to front full!! 1.5 to Rudi is also really nice. Lovely triple full to finish, chest maybe a bit down.

Kotrong HB: Yamawaki, I think that was his only release. Lots of front swing work, Really good straddle on his endos and stalders. Double double layout a bit short, step forward.

9:22 am. Borello FX: Double front half, a little messy. Front lay to front half, oy. 1.5 to front full. Stumbles a bit on the double full side pass. 2.5 is a bit wild, steps forward out of it.

Azimov VT: Stuck his vault! Didn’t see what.

Szabo HB: I only saw the dismount, but didn’t see him come off which is a plus.

9:21 am. Warmups now for rotation two! France on floor, Peru on pommels, Singapore on rings, Uzbekistan on vault, Russia on p-bars, and Romania on high bar.

9:20 am. Nagornyy got a 14.733 on vault, currently the top score of the meet. Which like…we’re one rotation in out of 400,000 so don’t get too excited. Dalaloyan got a 14.666.

9:17 am. Toshpulatov SR: Held one of his handstands for SO long, really good control. Double double came off a bit low but no problems hitting it.

I haven’t looked at a single score yet.

I think I missed a Russian vault…Belyavskiy maybe? I never know when they’re starting from here, I can’t see the start of the runway. GRRRRRR. The media seating here is really nice but it’s in such an awkward corner and so much is blocked. Plus you don’t get like, any audio cues when something starts and it’s so quick, by the time you hear the springboard, it’s over.

9:14 am. Azimov SR: Missed msot of this but I’m pretty sure his dismount was just a layout full

Degouy HB: Saw from the layout Tkachev to straddle half, good! Legs are wild on a stoop half, hit the dismount.

Dalaloyan VT: Kaz double was great! Then does a handspring front double pike, also really strong. I can’t see a lot of little things from here so I’m going to be more vague than I’d like but I can obviously tell when something is great or a disaster.

Muntean PB: Hit routine.

9:11 am. Nagornyy VT: Kaz double is really nice in the air, excellent landing too!

Borello HB: Kovacs, Kolman, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev, both of his Tkachevs looked a little low, hop full, Rybalko is late, Endo full is a bit messy, his legs need work on most things. floaty full-twisting DLO dismount, stuck.

Bataga PB: I missed most of this but it was a hit routine.

I’m missing almost everything on rings. 😦 It’s so far and blocked by a camera crane.

Aguero FX: Double front to open and triple full to close, hit routine, the triple full was nice! Good rotation. I didn’t pay super close attention to the rest.

9:08 am. Lankin VT: Second vault is a handspring Randi, a little short on the landing with a big step, looked okay in the air though.

Szabo PB: A little shaky throughout, hit routine though, piked double back dismount with a step.

Frasca HB: End to some front giant work, Yamawaki, stalder, hop full, Rybalko is way late, all of his handstands and piroutettes aren’t super accurate, hit the dismount though.

Leon FX: Big stumble forward on his double front at the start of his routine. The rest of his tumbling is a bit simple. One of his passes was just a layout. Double full at the end is a bit messy.

9:05 am. Lankin VT: I think he did a kaz 1.5 for his first vault, looked good from what I could see, it started really fast before I could truly pay attention but the landing was fine.

Gobaux HB: I caught it from the Rybalko, good front giant work, full-twisting double layout.

Tay PH: Hit routine.

Khamrokulov SR: A little shaky throughout on what I’ve seen and he doesn’t hold things quite long enough. Double front dismount, cowboyed but stuck.

PHEW okay I think I’m getting in the zone.

9:04 am. Warmups now! Peru starts on floor, the lone Singaporean on pommels, Uzbekistan on rings, Russia on vault, Romania on p-bars, and France on high bar.

9:00 am. OH MY GODDDD I MADE IT. It’s exactly 9 am and the gymnasts started marching in the second I got this blog up. Literal champion. I flew into Doha this morning and this arena/sports complex was MAD CONFUSING but alas, here we are.

The first subdivision for MAG will feature Russia, Romania, France, and Uzbekistan with a couple of mixed groups. I’m gonna try to get EVERYONE but I am 500 miles from pommels and rings, and about 250 miles from floor. Thankfully my high bar view is fab.

I’ll be back in a second after march-in! Gonna breathe REAL QUICK. Whirl of wind today.

  1. Will you be doing this for every subdivision? I’m a huge fan of you and your work btw! I’m from NZ and can’t see most of the streams so you’re my saving grace right now!

  2. The Russian team is incredible. I honestly don’t know how you can see the PH, SR and VT from where you are: the press is at the other end of the floor and not very high. This arena is so flat. And sad. It doesn’t look « Worlds ». I have a cat 1 ticket and I can’t even see the longines boards with the scores for half the events. ☹️
It seems that Dragulescu’s coach was as surprised as us about his vault. Don’t know what happened but that wasn’t the plan. Marian didn’t half twist at the end and went off the podium shrugging his shoulders. I don’t think his FX score is that high either.

    • Yeah, it’s SO far away, I can see vault fine but can’t see if they go OOB. Just if they hop and stuff. Pommels and rings I can also see well enough to see falls and mistakes (like I could see Belyavskiy’s rings mistakes even though I’m not even at the right angle to lol). Yeah, Marian said after that he was like “I knew I wasn’t gonna make the final so I just did an easier one.” I was like yeah it looks like you balked though.
