7:33 pm. Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos just had her beam D upped by 0.3, and she now has a 13.616!

7:30 pm. Aline Friess FRA BB: I wasn’t typing during the beginning of this but she hit everything super well. Full wolf turn. Double tuck high and clean, hop back. Beautiful!

Afrati GRE FX: Step back on her double tuck. Double full.

7:26 pm. Marine Boyer FRA BB: Front aerial to split jump to tuck jump half. Layout series, wobble but holds on. Switch to switch half. Double spin. Side aerial. Solid double pike! One of her better routines in recent times. 13.166 (5.7, 7.466)

Xoulogi GRE FX: Hop back on the double tuck. Good 1.5.  12.666 (4.6, 8.066)

7:25 pm. Sajn SLO UB: I missed the beginning, caught it from the toe-on to toe half to front giant to front giant half, layout dismount is clean. 10.166 (2.1, 8.066)

Maria Holbura will get Romania’s all-around spot over Denisa Golgota which is like…the biggest surprise EVER and kind of insane. But I’m so happy for Maria, who came into a dumpster fire situation for Romania in 2016 and did her best but reaped none of the benefits and has worked her butt off ever since.

7:24 pm. Katsali GRE FX: Double tuck, step back. Double L turn. Front layout full. Double full, a little short with a step forward.

7:23 pm. De Jesus Dos Santos FRA BB: Hit the mount, then a punch front pike, tiniest stumble. Lovely layout series. Hit a transverse jump and another acro skill but I didn’t see what they were. Leap series, full turn, both good. High double tuck with a bounce back. 13.316 (5.4, 7.916)

7:22 pm. Belak SLO UB: Blind change to front giant straddle Jaeger, extra swing and then paused on the bar after. Clear hip, got stuck in handstand and came off. Back on for a blind full, gets stuck again in handstand and comes off again. Sat the double front.

7:20 pm. Golgota ROU VT: DTY, a little lower and messier than usual. 14.033 (5.4, 8.733, -0.1). Tsuk full with a little bobble on the landing for her second vault.

De Sousa VEN FX: Opens with a nice 2.5. Double tuck after is hit.

7:19 pm. Kysselef SLO UB: Toe-on is clean, to toe shoot, also well-done. Blind full, stuck the layout dismount. Simple but clean and super solid.

7:18 pm. Crisan ROU VT: Yurchenko 1.5, good! Just a small step it looks like. She crashed that in the touch. 13.833 (5.0, 8.933, -0.1)

7:17 pm. Holbura ROU VT: Another decent FTY, a little messy in the landing. 13.300 (4.6, 8.700)

7:16 pm. Janik POL UB: Hit her transitions, blind full to big Gienger, some form issues there, toe-on to Tkachev, good. Double front with a hop. 12.633 (4.9, 7.733)

Ghiciuc ROU VT: FTY, a little low, some form issues throughout. 13.366 (4.6, 8.766)

7:14 pm. Charpy FRA BB: Loso mount, steps back out of it. Bhs loso is solid. Triple wolf turn, has to fight to get that last turn around. Side aerial, little stumble. Split leap to sissone. Front aerial to split jump to back handspring, lovely. Double pike deep but hit, hop. 12.600 (5.2, 7.400)

Leon VEN FX: Sat her arabian double front. Double tuck, low with a stumble forward. A little low in her leaps. Hit her last pass. 9.433 (3.4, 6.033)

7:08 pm. Afrati GRE BB: Jump to wolf jump to split jump, nice. Wobble on her side somi. Bhs loso, looked a tiny bit crooked but she did a good job to fix it. Switch leap to tour jeté, I LOVE a tour jeté on beam and think we need more of them. Switch half, landed face down on the beam and basically clear hipped around it before smashing to the floor which was an experience. Full turn. Side aerial. Double full with a step. That routine was actually EXCELLENT aside from that weird ass fall. 11.066 (4.8, 6.266)

7:00 pm. Xoulogi GRE BB: Came off on an acro skill early on. Side aerial had a big wobble, leg up. Leap into a Korbut. Full turn. Side somi is solid. Transverse split jump half. Gainer layout dismount.

6:59 pm. Golgota ROU FX: Piked full-in, okay, then she falls forward on the arabian double front. Also really low on her third pass, stumbles it froward. Came in super low on her double tuck but hit it. 11.000 (5.2, 5.800)

6:58 pm. Belak SLO VT: EXCELLENT handspring front layout full! 14.333 (5.4, 8.933) Yurchenko 1.5 was a little formy with a hop forward but still good.

6:56 pm. Leon VEN BB: I saw her fall at least twice. Wasn’t really paying super close attention here. Dismounted with a stuck front layout and a bow to the judges which is adorable, she lived in Japan and competed with a Japanese club team for a while! 9.566 (4.7, 4.866)

Pontlevoy FRA UB: Toe full, Komova II to Ricna, flexed feet, Pak is nice, to Chow half, great! Inbar half to piked Jaeger, some form issues there. Double front, her second flip was tighter than the first which is rare! Good landing. 14.400 (6.2, 8.200)!!!!! Damn, alternate’s about to make the bars final yo.

6:54 pm. Crisan ROU FX: Tucked full-in, good. Double pike with a bobble on the landing, hop back. Front through to double full. Double tuck low to finish. 12.066 (4.8, 7.266)

Kysselef SLO VT: Yurchenko 1.5 with a hop forward. 13.800 (5.0, 8.800). Excellent on the handspring front tuck full, probably some leg form in the air knowing how this vault usually looks for her, but one of her better landings.

6:53 pm. De Jesus Dos Santos FRA UB: Galante to Pak, super clean. Maloney to Bhardwaj, the tinist bit crooked but LOVELY and perfect. Beautiful van Leeuwen, inbar half to front giant full to front giant half, one second got a little tense in the full but she brought it back. Full-twisting double layout with a deep but solid landing. 14.600 (6.1, 8.500)

6:52 pm. Janik POL VT: Tsuk full to start, good landing. 13.666 (4.8, 8.866). Follows it up with a handspring front pike full, runs forward out of it off the mat completely.

De Sousa VEN BB: Came off on a transverse split jump half. 9.766 (3.9, 5.866)

6:51 pm. Holbura ROU FX: Tucked full-in, solid landing on the double pike after that. 1.5 to front layout. Switch side half. Double tuck with a bounce. 12.366 (4.9, 7.466)

Charpy FRA UB: Chow half I believe, toe half to piked Jaeger, Ricna to Pak, clean on the Pak, Ricna had some little things. Van Leeuwen. Toe full, stuck the full-in. Excellent. 14.166 (5.7, 8.466)

6:50 pm. Sajn SLO VT: Good FTY with a bounce back. Love that she hasn’t done the AA in at least what…seven years? And she randomly brings it back for the first time at worlds LOL. I LOVE HER.

6:47 pm. Katsali GRE BB: Hit her flight series, then a side somi with a wobble. Transverse straight jump full. Hit the dismount. Hit routine! 12.266 (5.0, 7.266)

Ghiciuc ROU FX: Double turn in front attitude to pirouette. Double tuck, a little low but good. Switch full. I missed some of her middle stuff but she finished with a solid double full. 11.966 (4.4, 7.566)

Friess FRA UB: Toe full to Maloney to Pak, lovely. Van Leeuwen. Clear hip to blind change to straddle Jaeger, FEET! Way to point. Super clean double front with a hop. 13.566 (5.2, 8.366)

6:43 pm. Looking at just two events for every team, France is about three points ahead of Germany and Belgium, and Mélanie De Jesus Dos Santos is a solid six tenths ahead in the all-around field.

6:42 pm. Afrati GRE UB: Stalder full, Maloney to clear hip to huge Ray, NICE! Pak caught at her chest but she isn’t phased. Short handstand before her toe shoot, caught a bit close. blind full, bends her knees throughout the whole thing and it’s a mess, HOW. Everything else was so good. Hit the dismount. 11.433 (4.6, 6.833)

6:38 pm. Holbura ROU BB: Candle mount, side aerial to back handspring, wobble. Switch to split ring jump, Switch half with weird leg form. Front aerial to split jump to Korbut, a little crooked but holds on. Double tuck, chest low and a baby step. Overall great compared to the rest of her crew. 12.733 (5.2, 7.533)

6:37 pm. Sajn SLO FX: Double pike, hop back. Hit her second pass. 2.5 at the end is nice. She’s such a lovely performer! 12.933 (4.7, 8.233)

6:36 pm. De Sousa VEN UB: Toe shoot, toe half to straddle Jaeger, bail to toe shoot, dead hangy, blind change into her layout dismount. 10.666 (4.3, 6.366)

6:32 pm. Pontlevoy FRA VT: DTY, a little weak in her form, but solid! 14.300 (5.4, 8.900)

Leon VEN UB: Huge Tkachev to Gienger! Bringing those J.Lo vibes. Pak, nice, toe shoot. Came off after that. Knee down on her dismount it looks like as well. Either way, she looks MUCH improved compared to when we saw her at 2017 worlds. 8.666 (4.5, 4.166)

Janik POL FX: Hit her first two passes, my head is bouncing back between beam and bars so I’m seeing her hitting but no idea what she’s hitting because I miss the actual tumbling. Double back last pass, also good. Her feet in some leaps are a little wonky. 12.300 (4.4, 7.900)

Crisan ROU BB: Came off on a side aerial. The rest was okay, form stuff, though. 11.733 (5.5, 6.233)

6:29 pm. Katsali GRE UB: Came off early in the routine. Late in her blind full, muscles a handstand after, double tuck is clean and solid on the landing.

Belak SLO FX: Double front, a little cowboyed, looks like she has it but she stumbles it back and sits. 11.133 (4.5, 6.633)

Golgota ROU BB: Wobble on her mount. Korbut. Off on her flight series. Hit everything after that, I started typing at a wolf turn, double tuck with a hop. 11.833 (5.2, 6.633)

Friess FRA VT: Rudi and it’s PHENOMENAL!!!! I’m not seeing it up close but from way back here it has SUCH a great block, SO much amplitude, it’s GORGEOUS. 15.000 (5.8, 9.200)

6:28 pm. De Jesus Dos Santos FRA VT: Huge and beautiful DTY! Big hop back though. But that form. *chef’s kiss* 14.600 (5.4, 9.200)

6:27 pm. Boyer FRA VT: Huge floaty FTY with a hop back.

6:25 pm. Ghiciuc ROU BB: Hit a jump with a twist early on. Side aerial to split jump. Hit the dismount. I missed a lot in that.

Kysselef SLO FX: Good double tuck. Nice on the 1.5 to front tuck. Switch ring to switch half. Front full with a small hop forward.

Xoulogi GRE UB: Bail, toe full with bent arms, blind change to front layout dismount.

6:18 pm. Janik POL BB: Had a little wobble early on. Side aerial to back handspring, solid! Punch front, big stumble and a fall. 😦 Front aerial, doesn’t pull her shoulders over quickly enough so she has no chance at getting the landing, another fall. Split jump to wolf jump. Split leap to side somi, big wobble, leg up, saves it. Switch leap. Full turn. Tucked 1.5 dismount. 10.233 (4.6, 5.633)

So far the arena has played two of Gabby Douglas’ floor musics in the background of other routines.

6:17 pm. De Jesus Dos Santos FRA FX: Full-twisting double layout, excellent. Tucked full-in, fab. Switch ring to switch full, excellent. Rolls out of her wolf turn in one of those “is this actually a fall” kind of ways. I love this music so much. Front layout through to double tuck, little scoot back. Stuck the double pike. A QUEEN. 13.966 (5.8, 8.266, -0.1)

6:16 pm. Ioana Crisan ROU UB: Chow to clear hip full, wild, to Tkachev to Pak, form is also wild on both of thoes. Toe shoot, double layout, flies forward on the landing. 12.666 (5.1, 7.566)

6:14 pm. Friess FRA FX: Couldn’t see if the first pass was an arabian double front or a double front but either way it was nice. Lovely work. 12.733 (5.0, 8.033, -0.3)

Golgota ROU UB: Blind change to straddle Jaeger, nice. Blind full to Tkachev to Pak, legs in a V, had to stop her swing on the low bar but kicks right back into it. Van Leeuwen, her coach practically caught her and carried her through it, GET AWAY. Double front is good. Then a good full-in. Double tuck, super clean.  12.200 (5.1, 7.100)

Sajn SLO BB: Clean jump series, stumble on the double turn but saves it. Side aerial to side somi, great. Back tuck or pike, I couldn’t see. Front aerial, check at the hips. Wolf jump full, tiny bobble. Illusion turn, another slight check. 1.5 dismount. 11.933 (5.1, 6.833)

6:13 pm. Leon VEN VT: Handspring front tuck, solid. 12.800 (4.0, 8.800)

6:10 pm. Charpy FRA FX: Memmel turn. Really nice double front. Clean double tuck. Hit her third and final passes very well. 13.233 (5.0, 8.233)

De Sousa GRE VT: FTY, kind of a low landing. 13.000 (4.6, 8.400)

Belak SLO BB: Good jump series. Switch half. Solid side somi. Hit the rest, solid dismount. 11.466 (4.4, 7.066)

Holbura ROU UB: Toe-on to shaposh, messy legs, to bail, messy legs, toe shoot, blind half to piked Jaeger, low and long, blind change to straddle Jaeger, her hip rotation is a bit awkward. Blind full, double layout looked great, step back. 12.233 (4.8, 7.433)

6:07 pm. Boyer FRA FX: 2.5 into a floaty front pike. Switch half. Double tuck, chest down slightly. Great double pike! 12.966 (5.0, 7.966)

Kysselef SLO BB: Nice jump series and then side somi. Another jump series after. Full turn. Front layout full stuck. 11.266 (4.4, 6.866)

Ghiciuc ROU UB: Shaposh to bail, toe shoot, good blind change to straddle Jaeger, blind full, bends her legs in half and hops off. Shame, it looked really nice to that point. Finishes with a double tuck, small hop.

6:06 pm. Finishing up the touch warm-up now!

  1. Romania implodes and nobody notices. Is there anybody on this planet who didn’t see this coming? Totally with you about Maria Holbura though 🙂

…18 months and a Worlds Quals later and nothing has changed. Olly Cimpian and Laura Jurca abandoned the country. Most of the squad is more-or-less permanently injured and the coaches accept no responsibility whatsoever. I am not surprised Deni Golgota couldn’t hold it together with the weight on her shoulders, gotta feel for her.
