9:23 pm. Day 1 Standings

1. Brody Malone 86.250
2. Brandon Briones 83.600
— Yul Moldauer 83.600
4. Shane Wiskus 83.350
5. Akash Modi 82.950
6. Allan Bower 82.600
7. Sam Mikulak 82.450
8. Matt Wenske 80.950

9:22 pm. Sam Mikulak SR: Iron cross to invert hang, planche, legs are maybe a little lower than his hips, through to iron cross, then swings through to a straddle hold, into a straddle planche. Nice transition there. Double tuck to double pike to handstand, buckles his elbows a bit but fights through, big hop back on the double double. Today was nothing if not a fight for Sam.

9:21 pm. Before Sam goes on rings, the standings have Brody Malone in first (86.250), Brandon Briones In second (83.600), and Yul Moldauer in third (83.400). I highly doubt Sam will factor into the top three after the day he’s had, especially finishing on rings, but here we go.

9:20 pm. I completely tuned out rings but saw Timothy Wang just hit a pretty decent routine, stuck the dismount.

9:16 pm. Brody Malone PH: Hit routine! What a day he’s had.

Taylor Burkhart HB: Yamawaki half caught under the bar, Yamawaki, Rybalko but I don’t think he actually released?, high Jaeger to Endo half, stalder, double double layout with a step. Loved the style and skill choice in this routine.

9:14 pm. Evan Davis FX: Stumble forward on the whip half to double front. 2.5 to barani was clean. Double full, really cool almost back dive to get down on the floor for his strength elements. Triple full, little hop to the side.

Allan Bower PB: Had a moment where he walked his hands around to hold something up. Hopped back on the dismount.

9:13 pm. Colt Walker PH: Hip angle could be better but hit routine.

9:10 pm. Yul Moldauer HB: His giants at the start looked really arched, but this was a nice, solid set for him. Caught his releases, a little shy in some pirouette handstands, stuck the dismount.

Matt Wenske PB: Great routine, stuck the piked double back cold.

9:08 pm. Shane Wiskus SR: Iron cross to invert hang, to maltese, to invert hang, to iron cross, double tuck and double pike up to straddle planche, nice, fights for control on the handstand, double double with a slightly low landing and a step.

Alex Diab FX: Caught it from the front double full to front full, low with a hop, double layout, tiny hop back, looked like he stuck the double full, ugh, then a tucked full-in to his knees.

Trevor Howard VT: Kaz 1.5, a little short, step back.

9:07 pm. Akash Modi PH: Some leg form problems throughout, on basically every skill, but he hit!

Genki Suzuki PB: Hit routine!

9:06 pm. Kiwan Watts VT: Really nice landing on his kaz 1.5!

9:00 pm. Rotation 5 Standings

1. Brody Malone 72.100
2. Yul Moldauer 70.600
3. Brandon Briones 70.250
4. Allan Bower 69.500
— Akash Modi 69.500
6. Shane Wiskus 69.350
7. Sam Mikulak 68.850
8. Colt Walker 67.800

8:57 pm. Brody Malone FX: Piked double front, big step forward, OOB. 2.5 to front full. Double double with a slight hop back. 1.5 to Rudi. Double full, slight hop back. Triple full, step back.

8:54 pm. Colt Walker FX: I caught it from the piked double front, 2.5 to barani, a little short coming out of the latter. I think he came down in his Japanese press, I wasn’t paying super close attention, 1.5 to front tuck full, and then he sits or nearly sits the arabian double front to finish. Put a hand down I think.

Trevor Howard SR: Maltese, to iron cross, to invert pike, pike through to iron cross, I didn’t see the rest but everything I did see was lovely!

8:52 pm. People IRL in the arena are asking me about Jade’s Olympic qualification options (always!) so I didn’t see a few routines…Ian Gunther, eighth before this rotation, sat a pass on floor.

8:49 pm. Allan Bower VT: Stuck the Kaz 1.5! Wasn’t the absolute cleanest in the air but he made up for it with that landing.

Brandon Briones FX: Hit everything I saw.

8:48 pm. Yul Moldauer PB: I missed most of this but he nailed the double front half-out.

8:45 pm. Akash Modi FX: Piked double front with a hop forward. 2.5 to front full, tucked I think. I didn’t see the rest!

Gage Dyer VT: Kaz double! Stuck! His hands looked so weird on the block but he twists SO fast, lands with just chest slightly down. Then stuck a double front right after!!!

8:43 pm. Brandon Wynn SR: Here we goooo! Excited for this. Planche, through to Iron cross, down to invert hang, swings up to inverted cross, then through to planche, hit the handstands, and then noooo, his dismount is really low! Double double I think, I couldn’t see if he put his hands down.

Shane Wiskus PH: Looked good to me, maybe some leg form throughout, but stayed on and was mostly solid.

8:42 pm. I keep missing Evan Davis and I want to scream, I love him.

Genki Suzuki VT: Kaz full with a hop back.

8:41 pm. Sam Mikulak PH: Flairs at the beginning go well, loses his leg form and hip form a bit after that but gets it back under control, still a bit messy though and hit his legs on the pommels a couple of times. Knees are all over the place. Can’t muscle into the dismount but hey, he stayed on!

8:35 pm. Rotation 4 Standings

1. Brody Malone 58.150
2. Yul Moldauer 56.250
3. Brandon Briones 56.050
4. Shane Wiskus 55.900
5. Sam Mikulak 55.850
6. Colt Walker 55.750
7. Akash Modi 55.600
8. Allan Bower 55.150
— Ian Gunther 55.150

8:32 pm. Donothan Bailey FX: Punches into randi, big hop back. Front double full to barani. 2.5 to front full, nailed that landing. Double front with a baby hop. Double full, a little forward with his chest. Arabian double front, bum is a little low but not bad at all.

8:29 pm. Colt Walker HB: One-arm front giant full, Yamawaki, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev to mixed grip, tak half, full-twisting double layout stuck. Great!

Robert Neff FX: I wasn’t typing but he hit everything, solid routine!

8:26 pm. Eddie Penev FX: Triple double! Tiny little step. Whip half to Randi, killer. 2.5 to Rudi. Double double, solid landing. 1.5 to front full to barani. And an excellent triple full with a hop to finish. That was incredible. 14.750!

8:23 pm. Brandon Briones HB: Hit everything I saw. Super clean straight double layout with a full twist, stuck the landing.

Matt Wenske SR: Maltese, through to iron cross, rolls through to Invert hang, swings to straddle planche, then swings up to handstand. Hit the dismount.

Adrian De Los Angeles FX: Hit a front full to double front at the start. A little wild on the 2.5 to finish.

8:20 pm. Alec Yoder PH: They have this on the screen so I can see. Yay! Scissors, one-arm swing, travels, all controlled, great transition into the dismount, fab routine. He’s screaming hahaha.

Akash Modi HB: German giants, straddle Tkachev to mixed grip, I missed a lot of this, double double layout, a little soft, small hop.

Shane Wiskus FX: Clean piked double front with a hop forward. Double front half-out, hop back. Double double, a little short, small hop. 2.5 to front full, lost leg form in the full but got the landing. Something after that went a little wild, but he fights for the landing. Triple full gets around PERFECTLY, stuck it cold. Maybe some form in that one but yesssss.

8:17 pm. Sam Mikulak FX: Punches into a Randi, decent landing. Something (1.5? 2.5? Front double full? Front full? Who knows honestly, I did not pay attention to the entry) to double front, really low with a hop back but stands it up. Piked double front was lovely in the air but also a little low .Big stumble on the pass after that, looked like a simple one, connected twists but I missed the intro. Double full also not solid. Triple full with a big lunge back. One of the wonkiest landing routines ever. Only a 13.35, 7.150 E score (6.2 D).

Taylor Burkhart VT: Looked like he did a Yurchenko half-on front layout 1.5, a little soft and short but not too bad!

8:15 pm. Yul Moldauer VT: Kaz 1.5, looked mostly clean, a little low on the landing, hop.

Allan Bower SR: Maltese to iron cross, invert pike saltos to iron cross. I missed the rest!

Brody Malone HB: Lovely Cassina, looked like a good Kolman too. Layout Tkachev to straddle Tkachev to mixed grip, layout Tkachev to mixed grip, tak full, tak half, stalder, hop full, and a clean stuck double double layout. SIR!!!!

8:09 pm. Rotation 3 Standings

1. Brody Malone 43.700
2. Sam Mikulak 42.500
3. Colt Walker 42.400
4. Brandon Briones 42.200
5. Akash Modi 42.100
6. Yul Moldauer 42.050
7. Shane Wiskus 41.900
8. Allan Bower 41.550

8:07 pm. Ian Gunther PB: I missed a lot of this but hit routine, and he had a half-in double back dismount, love!

8:05 pm. Genki Suzuki PH: Some flexed feet for a little of this. Legs came apart near the end but did a good job to get it back. Lost leg form again near the end but keeps pushing and gets the dismount. Good work to fight through that.

Robert Neff HB: Layout Tkachev to mixed grip, then a big straddle Tkachev to mixed, but the straddle looked a bit weird? Almost like a mix between a pike and a straddle from my POV. Double double layout dismount was great.

8:04 pm. Brandon Briones PB: I caught this about halfway through? Had some controlled handstands. Clean Tippelt. Double front with a hop.

8:03 pm. Adrian De Los Angeles HB: Big layout Tkachev, huge straddle right ater, then a straddle to mixed grip, the air he gets! Tak full def finished in horizontal, stalder, one-arm giant, full-twisting double layout, a little low with a hop forward.

7:59 pm. Shane Wiskus HB: Cassina, huge Kolman, love the kick-out in his Kovacs, one-arm front pirouette, tak full, almost had it in handstand, tak half, a little late there, stalder, one-arm giant, hop forward on the dismount.

Akash Modi PB: Basket to handstand was clean, a little rushed on a pirouette after, Tippelt, hit the dismount. Overall strong routine!

Allan Bower PH: Hit routine!

Kiwan Watts FX: I saw a huge double double from him in the first half. Opened up super early on a clean double full side pass. Nearly stuck the full-in to finish.

7:58 pm. Stephen Nedoroscik PB: I missed literally all of this but based on his celebration it PROBABLY went pretty well! Yep – 15.100!

Sam Mikulak HB: Cassina, Kolman, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev to straddle Tkachev to mixed grip, good, one-arm front pirouette, tak half, hop full, stalder, double double layout with his chest forward and a hop. What a comeback from p-bars!

7:55 pm. Brody Malone PB: Clean pirouettes at the start, didn’t make it up to handstand on a cast, clean Tippelt, Ono, and a piked double back with a small hop.

Gage Dyer PB: I saw bits and pieces, hit routine.

Yul Moldauer SR: I wasn’t typing but saw most, clean hit routine!

Trevor Howard FX: Piked double front with a hop. Sat the second pass, 2.5 twisting double back maybe? I missed the entry. Hit the rest.

7:54 pm. Alex Diab VT: His twist off the table looked a little odd, not the tightest, but hit the landing.

7:52 pm. Khoi Young FX: Clean double layout, hop. Double double, clicks his heels together. Front full to front double full is wild. Better on the 2.5 to barani. Too much power in his triple full, big bounce back/sideways.

Mike Fletcher VT: Sat his Kaz 1.5.

Donothan Bailey HB: Yamawaki half and Yamawaki, the rest was good, full-twisting double layout with an arm swing to hold his balance.

7:49 pm. Still coming down from the panic after seeing Sam smashing his knees into the ground and then playing dead for a sec. The way I screamed (in my head…I don’t actually scream or even talk at meets).

7:46 pm. Rotation 2 Standings

1. Brody Malone 29.300
2. Brandon Briones 28.500
3. Akash Modi 28.300
4. Robert Neff 28.100
5. Shane Wiskus 28.050
6. Colt Walker 27.850
7. Sam Mikulak 27.750
8. Adrian De Los Angeles 27.650

7:45 pm. Adrian De Los Angeles PB: had some leg separation on a pirouette early on, nailed some saltos and transition to single rail, super tight handstand there. Full pirouette also very good, and a college stick on his double front.

7:42 pm. Shane Wiskus PB: I wasn’t typing during the beginning of this but everything looked great, huge Bhavsar, clean handstands, super smooth on the Tippelt, and a double front, landed a little low, but that was fabulous.

7:38 pm. Sam Mikulak PB: Had a big arch on a pirouette early on and hand to walk his hands around, OOF, then his hands slip on a straddle salto and he lands hard on his knees. Lies there for a second before getting up but he’s fine it seems, that gave me 50 heart attacks. Repeats the skill and gets it this time. Hit everything else, maybe just a little shakier than usual.

Alec Yoder HB: Yamawaki, Kolman caught REALLY close, has to pause on the bar and start his swing again.

7:36 pm. Allan Bower FX: Piked double front, stuck. Lovely. Double double also stuck cold, feet just apart there. Front double full to front full, tries to stick but has to adjust. 2.5 to barani, baby hop. Really high set on his triple full but doesn’t go very far…just manages to sneak it around for the landing, maybe a little short.

7:34 pm. Trevor Howard HB: He hit everything I saw.

Yul Moldauer PH: Ugh, I missed this I think? I thought I saw him standing over there at one point so he must have gone…I’ll just share his score when it comes in.

Alex Diab SR: 14.950!!!

Brandon Briones VT: Really solid kaz 1.5!

Timothy Wang PB: Had a fall halfway through.

7:33 pm. Gage Dyer FX: I missed the beginning, double front half I think then a clean double full. Love the butterfly down to hand support so much. Double double to finish. Everything I saw was fab.

7:32 pm. Akash Modi VT: Kaz 1.5, knees are pretty soft. Gets the landing.

7:30 pm. Matt Wenske FX: I missed the first pass. Double double stuck. I missed a bit after that. Triple full to finish.

Khoi Young HB: Hit everything I saw until he came off on a giant swing?

Donothan Bailey PB: Big straddle salto. Big double front dismount.

Brody Malone VT: Kaz 1.5, stuck! Feet apart but that was excellent.

Jeremy Bischoff VT: Kaz full, hit.

7:29 pm. Colt Walker VT: Kaz 1.5, some soft knee form, but gets it around well, small hop.

7:27 pm. Genki Suzuki FX: I missed his first pass. Front double full into something…double double with a hop back. Hit the pass after that. Short triple full to finish.

Taylor Burkhart PH: Great flair work. Good work into his dismount as well. Good!

Kiwan Watts HB: Looked like he had a fall early on.

7:25 pm. Touch warm-ups are done for rotation two!

7:21 pm. Rotation 1 Standings

1. Brody Malone 14.600
2. Yul Moldauer 14.500
3. Eddie Penev 14.450
4. Timothy Wang 14.400
5. Donothan Bailey 14.250
6. Sam Mikulak 14.200
— Robert Neff 14.200
8. Brandon Briones 14.100

7:17 pm. Akash Modi SR: He has the arena to himself right now so I can focus. Pike sit through to maltese to invert hang, back up to maltese, down to invert hang, double tuck to double pike to iron cross, invert hang, up to pike sit, pressed to handstand, a little shaky on a handstand before his double double dismount, small hop.

7:15 pm. Allan Bower HB: Yamawaki, Kovacs is great, layout Tkachev, some pike in his hips, straddle Tkachev looked clean, tak full with some leg separation, bigger leg separation on the tak half, big clean full-twisting double layout with a small hop.

Ian Lasic-Ellis PB: Hit routine!

Jeremy Bischoff SR: Hit saltos, a little shaky in his handstand near the end, hop on the dismount, I think it was a double double but hard to see.

7:14 pm. Shane Wiskus VT: Kaz 1.5, comes in really low, big step crosses over OOB.

7:13 pm. Trevor Howard PB: A little arched in one of his early handstands, tuck half release, piked double back dismount.

Matt Wenske HB: I missed this!

7:11 pm. Timothy Wang VT: Kaz 1.5, form isn’t the tightest but another good landing.

Mike Fletcher PH: I saw some of this, had some hip pike, and his legs came apart a couple of times. But a hit routine!

Sam Mikulak VT: Kaz 1.5, came off the table far to the side, tries to correct in the air but not his best, hop on the landing.

7:10 pm. Taylor Burkhart FX: I missed this. 13.9

Michael Moran FX: Double front half, hop. Double double rotation is way off, lands with his feet straddled basically. Hands down. Hit everything after that.

Donothan Bailey VT: Kaz 1.5, pretty clean on the landing.

Evan Davis PH: I missed the routine (someone decided to stand DIRECTLY in front of me to talk to other media people here so I can’t see PH/SR at all now) but they showed his reaction to hitting on the big screen and he looked thrilled!

7:08 pm. Genki Suzuki HB: Yamawaki, layout Tkachev, straddle Tkachev, all good. Full twisting double layout is clean.

Kiwan Watts PB: Nice piked double back dismount. Hit routine.

Brandon Briones SR: Hit routine, 14.100

Robert Neff VT: Kaz 1.5, super solid landing.

7:07 pm. Eddie Penev VT: Super high Shewfelt! Decent landing, looked clean in the air. I think this may have been his second vault, I didn’t see his first.

7:05 pm. Yul Moldauer FX: Punch into a randi to start. Arabian double front half-out is stuck, excellent. Front double full to front full, also stuck. Flairs, then a 2.5 to barani after I think. Double full side pass with a little bounce in place. Triple full to finish, a tiny bit short with a hop.

Adrian De Los Angeles VT: Didn’t see what he did but he looked a little short in rotation, hop.

Alec Yoder PH: Had a HUGE straddle salto. Arched over a couple of handstands, though. Super high double front half-out, but maybe too high, he looks off on the landing and has a hop back.

Nicolas Kuebler HB: Had a fall early on but got back on and caught a Kovacs. College stick on the double double layout dismount.

7:04 pm. I have a shady view of pommels and rings so I’ll probably be light on these two but I’ll try to get what I can!

7:02 pm. 5280 and Minnesota start on floor, Navy, Illionis and Iowa on pommels, Stanford on rings, USOPTC and Air Force on vault, Ohio State, Arizona State, Sportsplex, and MEGA on p-bars, and Metropolitan and Oklahoma on high bar.

7:00 pm. The new meet host is Peng Peng and she taught TikTok dances to the crowd while SCREAMING. It’s better than John Macready making dads crawl around on the floor while a music track complete with babies crying plays. Please don’t make Peng Peng do this.

6:58 pm. The national anthem is over. Let the touch warm-up begin!
